the dv6t quad weigh 5.78? how smaller and more portable is the y470?
how is the battery life for just word processing and internet?
How is the gpu? i plan on playing starcraft and call of duty
does it overheat when playing?
how is the build quality and design ( this will be my first lenovo and my friend told me that usually lenovo laptops have horrible designs but strong build quality)

I bought Y570 on 30 April and as of now works perfectly. I haven't had any freezing issues or problem with Nvidia graphics reported by others.
I'm using stock drivers and settings so far and didn't find any issues.
I have tried playing the below games seamlessly on my Y570.
Burnout Paradise
NFS Hot Pursuit
Call of Duty-->Black Ops (this on full resolution lagged less than a second in between and after changing to 1280*720 worked smoothly).
Dirt 2
Dirt 3
Shift 2 Unleashed
FIFA 11
The booting time mostly takes between 40-52 seconds (shut down is very fast).
The battery life is good for a normal web browsing of watching video play back upto 3 hours. But with high end graphic games I dont think it will last for more than an hour (I have to test it fully though I played Hot pursuit for half an hour, still half battery was left.).
There is no noticable heat generated or the voice of Fan running. Its really quiet.
Now regarding the screen, this is the only negative side I have come across. The screen clarity is good, while playing videos/games its clear and crisp. This laptop has a tendency to show the blue colour to more bluish or Violet and pure white has a slight bluish shade. This issue already reported for Y560 earlier and not sure any driver/BIOS update have any fix for this, so has to live with it.
I'm really happy with the purchase and performance, here is my specs
i7-2630QM
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
750GB SATA HDD
nVidia GeForce 555M DDR5 1GB
Please help how to do a test on bench marking/ GPU performances
Cheers -
I have just purchased a Lenovo Y470 with i7-2630QM with GT550m. The Malaysian model
Anyone Having problem updating its drivers? Official Nvidia Driver installer does not detect the hardware. I reckon its Optimus problem eh.
And I cant really understand how the Dedicated button in the front works for optimus. Ready to Optimize power and ready to Save Power? Arent they pretty much the same?
Why dont they just make 3 different option, Save power, Optimize, Performance Quality GPU. -
-
@Wyeyip, flicking the switch so the led shines means you've turned on the nvidia OPTIMUS. You can go in and set the nvidia 555the default card when on optimus to the 555m. Official nvidia drivers disinclude the 555m and can't be installed without modifying the .inf files.
-
@shoeman6
I am using Y470 with GT550m
So how do I set GT550m as the default card when optimus is switched on?
I installed the latest beta 275.50 driver with no problem. -

I got my Y570 today. I ordered it yesterday from Amazon.com for $949, I didn't even pick 1-day shipping. It has the I7 processor, 6 Gb RAM (PC-10600), Geforce 555m, and 750 Gb hard drive.
So far, I am extremely happy with my purchase. I've installed two games I've been wanting to play for awhile, Oblivion & Assassin's Creed 1. Both games ran fine on maxed out settings, getting at least 60 fps.
I'll try more recent games later. -
-
I installed assassins creed bortherhood and am getting a playable ~20+ frame rate max settings, it does dip at times though.
-
i can't seem to play any game without a lag...
i got decent 10500~ in 3dmark06 and wei of 6.7 for both graphics and gaming graphics.
But I tried playing mafia 2 and gta 4 both on lowest settings (notebookcheck has them both being playable at high setting with gt540m) and get something like 20-30 fps. I wouldn't mind these if the settings were high...
I first thought this was because the games were running on intel. So i checked to see if these games run if I configure them to run with intel cards and they won't even start. So obviously these games are running with gt555m.
Anyone else having the same issue?
So basically I haven't been playing any games on this at all -

it's for sager laptops, but it might remedy your problems -
Hi all,
I'm considering the Y470 and note that of the 5 available options, none includes both a 7200 RPM hard drive and a Blu-ray player. Is there some sort of technical limitation that prevents both in the same unit? If not, which would be easier to upgrade myself?
Or would I even notice a difference between 5400 and 7200 RPM? -
y470 Insyde Bios MOD? Use another WiFi card than Intel 1000?
-
There's no technical limitation, and the hard drive upgrade is much easier.
What would you be using your laptop for? That could change the answer to your second question. -
...wifi streaming with Intel Advanced-N 6230 Wireless Card...already brought. HDD replacement already done, I have now an hybrid Seagate Momentus XT installed on my y470. Boot under 17 sec, improved HDD access.
-
-
@bhughes, you probably wouldn't notice the difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm.

new nvidia drivers out (beta) that support the 555m.

edit:
All previous drivers for the y570 have given me an error message on installation & this one worked with no issues. -

To everyone else:
I just installed the new RAM in my Y570.
Both the Y570 and Y470 have 2 slots for RAM. My Y570 had 1 x 4GB PC3-10600 Samsung DIMM. My Wifes Y470 had 2 x 2GB PC3-10600 Hynix (Korea 05) sticks. I installed the 2 x 4GB PC3-8500 G.Skill DIMM's into my Y570 and took my 4GB Samsung and added it to my wifes Y470 (after removing 1 x 2GB Hynix DIMM. I now have 8GBs and she has 6GBs. I noticed a big difference in how fast webpages load and programs open. I need to try it in some games to get a real test on the performance boost.
Update:
I ran the WEI and my scores for Memory and Graphics improved.
Memory went from 7.1 to 7.3
Graphics went from 4.7 to 5.5 -
The latest 275.50 Beta Driver works with Y470 and Y570.
Update away!
NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.50 BETA -
I received a L Y470 the other day after two months of looking for a "perfect" laptop. I was looking for a relatively mobile notebook that would be able to play relatively recent games, have decent sound, and a decent screen. I started with the Toshiba Protege R835-50x, which was light (3.3 lbs), but the performance and screen were lacking, at least at that price point. I switched to the Acer d225e-1428 netbook (Atom N570 with GMAx3150), which is great for Baldur's Gate 2, but no 3D gaming. The screen and portability were great though.
I was going to buy the Lenovo x220, primarily for the IPS screen and portability, but then I noticed the Y470. The Y470 has what seems to be the best mix of performance and portability. It compares well the the Dell XPS 15 and is much smaller and less expensive. It compares well with the HP dv6 and dm4, and is more powerful than the latter and lighter than the former.
Fit and finish are excellent. Battery life is as expected, just enough for about an hour of 3D gaming. At this point, the only issue with the the Y470 is the display. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems to be less bright, lower in contrast, and has poorer viewing angles than the above noted Toshiba and Acer models. The display is even darker and lower in contrast than my 2007 Dell Inspirion 1420 which was not LED backlit.
I tried calibrating the screen, but I can't seem to improve it very much. Does anyone have any thoughts about the screen or at least settings for brightness, contrast, and gamma that result in good picture quality? -
Idk what i did but the screen seems to be better now.... I ran a recalibration and fiddled with the intel display settings. I think contrast was a bit high out of the box, and a bit dark.
-
Just updated my drivers, fps boost is incredible. went from ~20-30ish on my dragon age 2 to ~90-70 on the lowest settings...
I'm guessing it fixes a problem i've been having where the highest settings always got more fps than the lowest settings....
ran a quick benchmark but didnt see much difference in the scores. -
hmm.. That sounds so good. 50% increase? Probably game support I am guessing.
Just update the game patch if possible as some of the problems are due to the game's engine.
Just wonder. Is there a GT555m version for Y470? because it seems like GT555m cant fit 14 inch except the M14x -
so far so good with the new graphics drivers although I am still getting random blue screens. Anyone else getting bsod with nvlddmkm.sys as the culprit?
It happens randomly including while using intel hd while working on a spreadsheet. I tried the duke nukem demo last night and it happened while playing. Anyone else having this issue? since it is intermittent, i will assume it is software and not hardware related. That is why I have been watching the nvidia website like a hawk for updated drivers recently. I was disappointed that these new drivers dont fix the issue.
I have yet to call lenovo since the problem is so intermittent but I probably will at some point. -
I do not get random bluescreen at all.
I am thinking it could be hardware problem? GC's problem? why not check with Lenovo's Service Centre? -
What is the battery life on Y470 with i7 processor and GT550M. Wifi on, browsing + watching a movie.
-
So my y470 arrived in Louisville in KY. But stuck In custom. It says it is held in warehouse until it is released by clearing agency
-
My y470 is also in customs. Shipped on the 17th...
-
I'm getting a very nice 30 fps on maxxed settings playing bulletstorm, i'm pleased
w/o a cooler or anything.
-
-
GPU Benchmarks:
Cinebench 11.5 64bit, gives me a median score of about 30
Heaven dx11 score 17.4 FPS and 438
Futuremark was buggy.
WEI 6.7
One disturbing thing I have noticed is the fact that (at least with the old drivers) there is artifacting even without overclocking.
Overclocking (old drivers) is almost futile as anything over 800 starts creating huge artifacts, and even the base clock of 753 has minor artifacts, this may have been fixed in the driver update.
Also, low settings do run with higher fps now, which is nice to see fixed. -
Definitely check out the new drivers. I don't know about how it's working on the 555, but it gave me a huge boost on my 560
-
@ shoeman6
Can you please provide a link for the updated drivers?
Just received my Y570, yahoooo.
Thanks. -
New Y570 Owner here, I'm getting good fps for the most part with the new nVidia Drivers but im getting stuttering in certain games such as Dungeon Siege III and APB and SC2 every few seconds. I've already removed every piece of bloat ware my computer came with but the problem still persists. Is it a common issue? I've read on a youtube comment that doing a clean OS install may fix the problem but thats a lot of work. Anyone else have this problem?
Ohh and I also get the static noise in my headphone jack, disabling the PC beep with the old drivers almost eradicated the noise but its picking up sounds from my mouse still. I hope they fix this in the future. -

Just got my ideapad Y470 today. Everything is as I expected, except I notice an issue with the bezel around the screen that I believe someone else mentioned before.
Basically the glossy black plastic border around the screen is not solidly attached all the way around.
On the left side it feels quite firm as if the entire thing is one solid piece. But on the right side there is a very slight amount of give if you rub your finger along it, almost as if you could pick at it with a nail and pull it apart (image below).
To clarify, there is no actual gap, just a slight looseness. I should also mention that there seems to be no immediate danger of it falling off or anything like that, but it does feel quite cheap and flimsy and gives the impression of a poor build quality.
I was not expecting this from Lenovo, as my previous Thinkpad T61 is really built like a tank.
The build quality otherwise seems good, especially the keyboard and surrounding area which has a nice metallic look to it.
Just too bad about that bezel. I plan to email Lenovo and see what they come back with, but unless there is a usability problem or it seems like the issue is deteriorating, I probably won't send it back and wait another month for a new laptop.
Anyone else have this problem?
Cheers.

Why can't I find any video reviews of this notebook, theres literally none. I can't find much written reviews either. I understand its fairly new but still, theres nothing!
I decided to ask here. How is this laptop? Is it a good choice for school? gaming? multimedia? How is the screen? -
Hopefully it's just a random defect and they will send me a new one. I am going to ask for a replacement. -

Anybody want to swap in a 1600x900 14" LCD in their Y470?
Lots of people seem to want a high-res 14" in the Which notebook should I buy? section. No reason why a Lenovo Y470 couldn't have one. The process to do it should be similar to http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...cial-swapping-xps-14-l401x-screen-thread.html.
If can come up with a similar recipe as the XPS14 then you'd have a very highly desired system : the best mix of portability and gaming cred with a 1600x900 panel. -
In response to your bezel statement my y570 has the same "issue" it does make it feel much less stable than it is, and I can run my nail ebtween the split on the inside of the bezel all the way around, but I haven't had any real problems with this, it's just different.
