Well, its up to you.
I would normally send to the service centre if the Bluescreen still occur even with driver update and a clean reformat.
-
The software bundled in Lenovo seemed very useful to me. I kept everything except the antivirus provided. -
-
I do have the same issue with the bezel after checking thoroughly, my top right corner has a small gap but I kinda pressed it against the cover and it closes up a little. not really a big deal for me.
I guess its ideapad quality. We cant expect a thinkpad quality in this. -
Yes the game run fine without any problem at all but at some point the Graphics card would stop working and pop up on the notification bar and he game quits. At time there would just be a bluescreen. Bluescreen came towards the end more oftenly and I guess its getting serious. I have tried older drivers as well as a clean reformat. Even a GPU stress test didnt post problem. Only during games or movies the GC would fail
I got checked out in Service Centre and its GC's fault. got it replaced and working perfectly fine again. -
New Deal Coupon Code: YSERIESDEAL. I'm not sure exactly how much the savings are but I think it's around 15% or something. Better than 10%!
Just bought my Y470 w/ i5-2410m, blu ray, 750gb HDD for US$764 + Tax. I've created a deal for it on Slickdeals if you want more details.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y470, i5-2410M or i7-2630QM, Nvidia GT 550m, 14" Screen, Blu Ray, 750gb HDD, USB 3.0 - $764 or $850 AC + Tax + FS @ Lenovo.com - Slickdeals.net -
Not sure if this helps or what but I looked at the service manual for the 470 series and 6 different model numbers are listed for the led panels:
1) 14.0 HD LED Panel, AUO B140XW03 V0 HD G LED1 NB
2) 14.0 HD LED Panel, CMI N140BGE-L41 HD G F CE LED1 NB
3) 14.0 HD LED Panel, LGD LP140WH2-TLQ1 HD G LED1 NB
4) 14.0 HD LED Panel, SEC LTN140AT20-L01 HD G F CE LED1 NB
5) 14.0 HD LED Panel, BOE HT140WXB-300 HD G F CE LED1 NB
6) 14.0 HD LED Panel, CPT CLAA140WB01AJ HD G F CE LED1 NB
I tried searching these part numbers to see if it was immediately obvious whether the y470 uses a "dual channel LVDS," but since I don't know what the hell that means, it was a relatively futile exercise. However, I was able to determine that the screens do seem to use "40 pin" connections:

Replacing the y470 screen with a brighter screen with better viewing angles would make the y470 perfect. Is there any way to know which screen is in the laptop now? Also, how can we know that a replacement screen will actually be any better?

Overall, the y470 demonstrates excellent performance for a laptop under 5 lbs. It's better than the Alienware 11x, which is nearly the same weight. I wouldn't compare it to the 14x as that is much heavier. -

I ordered mine Y570 last week and on Thursday, they sent me an e-mail saying that it's shipped. On the order status website, it says "Invoiced Shipped on
23/06/11 UPS SCS (ASIA) LIMITED" under this, it gives me a number "5201xxxxxx" but when I click on it, it takes me to UPS website where it says "UPS could not locate the shipment details for your request. Verify your information and try again." It's been about 3 days and it's still like this. Is it supposed to be like this or should I call Lenovo? -

Guys, Y470 has gt 555m or 550m?
How is the cooling on it when gaming, does it throttle and overheat or can it handle long gaming sessions with no issues? -
just wondering, can the y470 use dual external monitors?
also, can i run a single external monitor only using the intel graphics card? -
The y470 was the 550M. Not sure about dual external monitors, I would guess no (though are is an HDMI and a VGA out).
Runs cool, though lots of hot air is pumped out of the large left exhaust when the 550M is really going (e.g., during 3dmark06 testing). I haven't noticed any throttling thus far, though I have the i5. It may be an issue on the i7, but I couldn't say for sure. -
Both the Y470 and Y570 seem to handle gaming sessions well heat is a non issue as long as your allowing for proper ventilation but I haven't played more than 2 hours at a time with either one. -
Friday Recieved my Y470 Canada, i7 8GB rams, ordered on 12 June 2011, Sunday, est 21 June, but arrived on 24th June 2011.
Not bad, as I was expecting it would take 1 mnoth.
By UPS around 6pm, as usual delivery time, need adult signature.
Eveything works fine, just for one day. the screen just whobby as shown on YouTube by menmbers.
Feel not as solid as my other Lenovos, T61p and 3000 N200, but it is thinner.
Keyboard is ok but keys are physically different, look, shapes and locartions are different.
Machine lot faster with i7+8 GB rams, 7200 rpm HHD,boot up with original setup is 54 sec. now, as it says on the screen, first start was 72 sec. then optimised a few times.
Was wondering how to do the Factory Default recovery disc, until look into the User Guide, then it mentioned in the One Touch Recovery. Backup into 3 DVDs. And then the Repair disc to 1 DVD.
Not 100% sure what is System backup, looks like the whole current C:\, as it indicates 26 GBs, so did not back up. -
One question for others, it comes with MS Office 2010 starter only have Word and excel.
I have MS Office 2007, can I install 2007 and co-exist with this 2010 starter?
As if my 2007 overwrite the 2010, then I do not know how to get back the 2010 from the One Key Restore.
Anyone has this experience that can share?
Thanks a lot. -
Are the colors on the screen vibrant and natural since it is glossy?
ThinkPad T420 and X120e has matte and the color is just lackluster and boring. -
The color is good.
I pick the Y470 series is all because of glossy screen, as I have the T61p which is the older version of T which has matt screen, and is dull color and grainy to me, but that is for office use.
Then I bought my daughter the 3000 N200 which has glossy screen, so I know the different to make the choice for the Y series, as RedFlagDeals had 25% discount + 8% cashback for T and X that maybe better than I used the eCoupon of $175 off the Y470, Canadian version.
So far so good, just the battery is using up a bit fast than I would prefer with the separate graphic card auto-on. -

I think I read your post, so I was concerned too, and check Lonovo.ca My Account, daily.
I never rec'd email, just check My account, ordered on 12th Sunday, it changed from submitted to invoiced then Shipped on 17th June, then I click into View order, there was a Tracking #, same as you said, click on the tracking would bring to UPS web site but Items not located !! Even I copy/paste the Tracking # and search by #.
So I read some posts saying stuck at Shangkai port, I never got that information show up from my tracking.

Arrived at my home 6pm.

I never had email for delay notice.
Wish you luck. -

Oh sorry, for the first few days from 17th to 20th, the tracking # did not find the items, until 21st, when it arrived in Canada, then it started to show information.
Then I was so excited, I checked daily during office hours, there were 2 events on same days at different time, I just combined them to save my typing.
Whenever there were new tracking information, I print pdf to save a copy, I like to keep each step.
I am correct to do that, as once it arrived at home and someone signed to recieve, all the information that you saw will be gone, and replaced by Delivery Proof.
So if you want to keep all the fun information like me, and report to here, you need to pdf, or save the web pages or print screen.
Hope you start to get tracking infornation this Monday or so. -
Hi everyone. I've been trying to install the latest drivers for the gpu, but it says that it's not compatible with my hardware. Now I read on the nvidia forums that the gt 555m with optimus has their own set of drivers and that I should wait for those instead.

greetings. i ordered my Y570 on the 17th (via a sale on Redflagdeals) and am hoping to get it this week. i've got a couple hardware questions:
i'm wanting to add in a bluray player at a later date. i can get a drive off ebay but i'm worried about the overall form of the laptop (the drive is kinda curved whereas generic drives are just the rectangular shape). any suggestions? there's a Lenovo support site in my city where i can drop my laptop off if need be. would it be possible to get the bluray drive upgrade through Lenovo support?
i ordered the base model which comes with 4GB RAM. is an upgrade to 8GB a worthy difference? i plan to do some gaming and frequent multimedia. any suggestions on a specific type of RAM and link (i'm in Canada).
also, how is the screen hinge? is it sturdy or is there a bit of wobble?
thanks, guys! -
been using my y470 for almost a week now.. been gaming almost 24/7 except my sleeptime. haha.. probably around 5 to 6 hours a day.
I am from Malaysia where daytime weather can reach around 35 Celsius. Temperature maxed at 81 Celsius with 99% utilization. As the CPU shares the same heatsink. CPU also registers around the same temperature as the GPU. During night time with airconditioning on it only around 70 Celsius.
Lots of heat is released on the vent located on the left side. the palm rest have slight heat which is bearable. Mine is i7 model and I have not experienced any throttling. More games will be released soon supporting quad cores.
In regards to angrykenji question about the hinge. I would say its not very tough but not so weak as well. Its only 2 small support but its not so bad. I do not experience loose or wobble during my train rides. Its quite sturdy and well built. Thou there are some complaints with the screen bezel no tightly secured. -
The hinge has a little wobble but not much IMO. -

I tried 4,5 and 8, not much of an increase to 8, I really don't run anything that comes close to using that much ram.
-
4GB is more than enough for gaming and everyday multitasking.
-
I've installed some more games just to see how they perform. Just Cause 2, Borderlands, Two Worlds, Drakensang, & Torchlight. All are running very well. I can run Just Cause 2 on close to max settings, but I did have to update to the beta drivers before I could run it at all.
I'm going to do a clean install in the next few days and set up everything just the way I like it. I've decided not to put my 64 Gb SSD in the laptop, I'd rather have more storage space so I don't have to hook up any other hard drives. I'll buy a bigger SSD when they come down in price.

Y470 here. Having major GPU driver problems. At first, the default NVIDIA drivers from Lenovo's website (267.43) would randomly BSOD within an hour or two of use due to some issue with nvlddmkm.sys. I tried uninstalling the drivers, and then using DriverSweeper to remove remaining NVIDIA files before reinstalling. I'd then manually replace nvlddmkm.sys, but still get BSOD after an hour or two of use.
I've tried doing a clean install of NVIDIA's latest Verde drivers 275.33, however the drivers cannot detect that I have an NVIDIA card. I've also tried doing an express install (upgrade installation) with 267.43 preinstalled, but 275.33 still does not recognize that I have an NVIDIA card in my system.
I then tried the latest beta drivers 275.50 and while it does not detect an NVIDIA card on a clean installation, it WILL be able to express install if I have 267.43 pre-installed. HOWEVER, upon rebooting after upgrading to 275.50, my system experiences a hard lock up before I'm able to do anything. No BSOD or any error message, just freezes, and I have to manually power down and enter safe mode to remove the NVIDIA drivers.
Any advice? I'm running driverless right now since I'm tired of dealing with the BSOD issues. I've also tried editing the INF files for the 275.33 and 275.50 drivers, but I still can't get the drivers to recognize the GeForce 550M, but it's possible I could be doing it wrong. If anyone knows how to properly add the 550M to the INF of the 275.33 or 275.50 drivers and send it to me I would be very grateful.
Thanks -
the BETA 275.50 should detect GT550m or 555m automatically. did you turn on the Optimus switch when updating your driver?
normally it shouldnt get BSOD when it comes out fresh.. I think it could b due to the Hardware problem. Probably a manufacturer defect. I suggest you get it checked and request for a brand new unit. -

Are you certain it is a hardware defect and not software glitch issue? -

I plan to get an SSD for my Y470 and hoping to get a hdd cage for it too. -
Anybody notice they pulled the i5 500 gig hdd and i3 from the y470 page? I hope they'll be back soon, I've been waiting for that 20% discount coupon.

Just got my 80 GB Intel 310 mSATA drive... still no laptop to put it in though. Was shipped on the 17th.
