Yeah... its under the touchpad area... but I found out that it operates in the temp ranges of 0 to 80C+... damn...

i highly doubt there's an option for a backlit keyboard. -
hey guys i just got the y470 in yesterday. Notebooks for gaming said it can run crysis on high however i cant even run it on low. This is the i7 edition. the only option i have changed is turning the battery option to high performance. Is their any nvidia option i have to activate or something cause right now the gaming performance is horrid
-
You probably have to turn on optimus (little switch on the front of notebook, the led light should be on)
-
I wouldn't be surprised if crysis 2 wasn't very playable on high w/ the 550m. It should be somewhat smooth though esp. with the i7.
-
Hey. I'm actually looking into getting the y570. Mostly for gaming and doing some video editing.
I'm looking to get this one:
Lenovo - Enhance your IdeaPad Y570 Laptop - 086226U - Dusk Black (with USB 3.0): Weekly Deal
It's $930 right now. Is that low compared to what it's been since it's been released, or has it gone lower for that configuration?
Some of the MUSTS in the configuration are the i7, 6+ gb RAM, and 7200 rpm in the HDD. -
-
there are also lots of coupons. I normally use logicbuy for those -
Yeah, I found a 10% coupon a few days ago. Which, last week's deal was for $900, but without the 7200 rpm HDD. So, this week's at $930 would total about $895 with the coupon and then tax added.
I'm hesitant to see if i should wait or not for next week's deal, because it seems like it's this cheap right now because of some school sale they have, so i'm thinking, after tomorrow, the price is gonna jump up. -
Or you could create an account here:
Lenovo - Barnes and Noble Gold
it always has a lower price normally. -
If only they allowed you to use Amazon GCs to help pay for these, considering they have amazon checkout.
Edit: I really don't like how you can't ACTUALLY customize the laptops. It's all premade customizations.
Edit2: HHMMMMMM. I just found the Best Price Match Guarantee thing. It says:
"Price matching must take place on your day of purchase prior to completion of your transaction. If you find a better price, contact a sales specialist by calling the number located at the top of your EPP member program homepage and present a valid eCoupon code or saved cart and we will beat that price by $20."
Soooooo, if i show them that it's cheaper through the normal site with the 10% off ecoupon, i'll get that price AND another $20 lower. That's...... EPIC. :O
Edit3: I did the math. It would then cost a total of $869.47 with tax. Now that's the type of price i'm talking about :3 -
Honestly, the 20% coupons come by so often I wouldn't settle for paying more than 20% off. (If you can wait that long
) at 20% off the system can't really be beat for price.

Um july 4th or fathers day.

Hey guys, just 2 weird problems and solutions if any of you guys run into them.
I plugged in headphones for the first time into my Y470 today and I was getting a constant low amplitude high frequency popping almost drumming like sound. At first, I was worried that it was noise from unshielded crap inside the laptop. After troubleshooting a little bit, I noticed that on ac power, it was going away and only happened when on the battery. A little more troubleshooting and I found out the popping was only occurring on the "Balanced" and "Energy Star" power plans. And finally after a little more troubleshooting, the problem was that under these plans, the "wireless adapter settings" power modes were set to "medium power saving" when on battery. For some reason, this was creating the popping sound and when changed to "maximum performance" the problem went away.
This setting can be changed in the windows power options menu and not in the lenovo power management software.
The second issue was that in device manager under system devices, there were devices that were not working properly and showed yellow error symbols, "ACPI Lid" and "ACPI DelayMan Filter." Both of these have to do with the behavior of power on the computer i.e. closing the lid. The solution is to uninstall both drivers, reboot and windows will automatically find a install the drivers for "ACPI Lid" and the device will work properly. I did a little research and "ACPI DelayMan Filter" seems to be a filter that delays the reboot and sleep sequences of the laptop. I saw no reason for it therefore I didn't worry about windows not installing anything for it after the reboot. It seems to be some kind of open source project that's being developed by an independent developer.
BTW, reinstalling the the "ACPI Lid" driver will also bring back the "Choose what closing the lid does" option in windows power options, which is missing before the reinstall presumably due to the corrupt "ACPI Lid" driver. -
I also wanted to say the updated BIOS posted on the lenovo website is older than the one installed on my computer...
-
About using lenovo one key restore on the y570 to create a restore disc for installing to mSATA; Can I put the restoration files onto my external hard drive (or would it have to be reformatted) or should I just go with dvds? And is there anything else I should do before putting it all on the mSATA and wiping the original hard drive clean?

Just got my y470 today!
ran cpu-z but it says the max bandwidth is PC3-10700 (667 MHz).
isn't the ram supposed to be 1333 MHz like it says on the Lenovo website or am I just completely missing something? -
667 x 2 = 1333mhz. huzzah!
-
the memory is DDR3, not DDR2. you can use 2ghz memory in this notebook if the CPU-z say correct the max frequency. 667x3 in 2 chanel if you have the two bank on.
in the tech manual founded in the support lenovo site say 1600mhz.
I not trust 100% in CPU-Z for new laptop technology. just after some releases after the new hardware family is in the market.
any way, in the BIOS of 99.9% of notebook not have timmings and latency to setup memory, not a good idea use a different memory from original.
[]'s -
So 667 is 1333... just like my Desktop reads 884 and it's actually 1768mhz -
-
I'm getting around 79 with turbo boost off (no visible fps difference with it on or off), and around 86 - 86 with turbo boost on.
-
Well, my current laptop just died...again....(I reflowed it last week to get it working again).
Now to wait for a lenovo sale again.... I wish i had jumped on it and bought it yesterday while it was still on sale.
Edit: The sale prices just came back. I don't know why before it showed everything like $300 more expensive xD -
what drivers are you guys using. Optimus is infuriating.
-
I just did it all and this baby flies (Y470). For all those people who seem to be so concerned with boot times - 12 seconds. Not too shabby. I have an Intel 310 80 GB in there. -
I can't seem to figure out how to get the NVIDIA GPU to activate when I play starcraft 2, even when I force it to, it still remains off according to the GPU state viewer, and the low fps that indicates its on integrated.
Anyone have any tips on how to get this bloody GPU to work?
Edit: Problem solved, i didnt know there was a physical silver button thing. Thanks -
Did you go with the hybrid SSD + mechanical HD? Did you use the Rapiddrive tool from Y470 support at Lenovo? Give a few more details concerning the method you used please.
Thanks -
Bought the Y470 yesterday, the far-right option.
I7 2.0
GT550m
8GB
750GB 5400
Blu Ray/DVD Combo
USB 3.0
Bulked up to a 3-year warranty, used a logicbuy coupon code and was out the door for 928.35 plus tax.
Anticipated ship date all throughout the ordering process was 7/28. Then as soon as I ordered, it went to 8/1. :-/
(Also rubbing salt in the wound, I had a second laptop, for a family member, (a Z570) that had the same 8/1 ship estimate, which shipped today... Harumph.)
But on to my particular question, how much bloatware does a Y470 come with? Will it be advisable to do a clean install when it arrives, or is Lenovo fairly stingy with their crap? -
This forum seems like a great place for information.
I am in Canada, as I am sure some of you are with your y series Notebooks. I want to purchase a y470, but the deals here seem terrible.
The logicbuy coupon on right now; Best deal & Coupon Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 14-inch laptop with 2nd generation Core i3, i5, i7 - LogicBUY
Am I best to ship it to the border and eat the 13% HST and 8% NY tax, or is there usually a deal for around $700 for the i5 y470 in Canada?
Thank you in advance everyone. -
@w
i acually found some fo the included software to be useful. -
Thanks for the informative post, I also have weird popping noises coming from my headphones, though it happens in high performance mode as well. I have really crappy headphones so that might be the issue, but I'll fiddle with your suggestions and see. I also noticed that ACPI lid was not installed correctly, will check out your fix.

just upgraded to the 275.50 beta drivers for the y470 550m, installed properly unlike all other more recent drivers I had tried. I noticed however after installation that it wasn't switching quite like it used to; had to manually right click and launch Witcher 2 with the GPU in order to get it to kick into gear.
I primarily upgraded the drivers hoping for an FPS increase in Witcher 2, as nvidia did some tweaking after the games release. I think I am getting a few FPS higher. Now it runs 15-20 FPS on high, 20-25 on medium, 25-40 on minimal. Definitely playable, and quite gorgeous with slightly tweaked medium settings. -
@aubon you can set it so the 555m is the default graphics card whenver optimus is on, that's what i do sine there's a physical switch for it anyways.
-
How long is the typical wait time for shipping? I ordered a Y470 almost two weeks ago and still do not have a tracking number.
-
After a bit of Googling, I have managed to find several possible options regarding a screen upgrade on the Y470. Can anyone tell me if these screens are compatible or any good? (I found a couple that did not match all the numbers/letters in the service manual. I do not know what they mean, so I cannot be sure they are the same pinout or other compatibility) And if none of these would work, I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

I got the 500GB hard drive option (7200 RPM) and self installed an mSATA SSD so that I now have the SSD, an HDD and an ODD. I did a fresh install of Win 7 on the SSD and at first installed the Rapid Drive tool, but didn't like what it did (it basically fools the system into thinking that the 80 GB SSD and the 500 GB drive are actually one 580GB drive - I'm not exactly sure what the advantages of this are, and I didn't want it to come back to haunt me later).
So I had to do a fresh install and not use the Rapid Drive Tool. Then I formatted the original HDD (it has 4 partitions which I got rid of). Now I have the SSD for operating system and all programs (including games if I choose to install any), as well as the HDD for all media and non-application files.
So far I have no complaints with this setup. I haven't been able to put a lot of time in with it yet, but it is incredibly fast and at this point everything is rainbows and unicorns. This is my first SSD, so I feel like I did when I was 13 and first discovered pornography. -

hello PPL,
I would lik to know if any one here install a msata in the Y570 ?
in my model not have the slot in the little compartment, but have a mPCIe slot in the big compartment close the HDD.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Can I use the slot near the HD or just the TV slot work with this?
Thank you in advance and sorry my terrible English.

I also have a question though, I added my mSATA ssd and hit F2 and made the ssd the primary boot hard drive but when I booted it just went to windows instead of the boot dvd I made with OneKey Recovery. What am I doing wrong? Or is this fine and its running on my ssd? -
What I did to install windows on the SSD was remove the HDD so it wouldn't boot of it... I used the created recovery DVD's (must be done prior to removing the HDD for obvious reasons) and loaded windows on the SSD... then I reinstalled the HDD and deleted it from inside windows...
-
Yeah, just did that recovery discs now working. How can I make sure Windows runs on the ssd version and not the hdd version when I put the hdd back in? Also what did you delete the hdd from within the control panel?
-
I went into the bios and set it to boot of the internal HD, the mSATA in other words.
After loggin into windows, I right clicked Computer and went to manage, then I proceeded to delete the partitions in the hard drive. -
if you use the recovery DVD, after plug and set it up the mSata in the BIOS, it will create a recovery partition in the mSata or in the other HDD disk ?
BR -
o man just got a 15 second boot *nerdgasm*
My hopefully last question is how do I choose which applications are run on the ssd and which are run on the hdd? -
When you go to install any program set the drive letter to where you want it to install... Ex. my SSD is C: and my HDD is D:... so I choose D: when it asks me where to install it.

can anyone please upload their "nvlddmkm.sys " from their "C:\windows\system32\drivers" folder...I Have been having major bsod issues lately with my drivers and one of the fixes is to find a "nvlddmkm.sys" that works...thanks and have a great day
-
did you try the 275.50 beta drivers from nvidia?
