Just got my y570 a few days ago and updated my graphics drivers to 275.50 the day I got it but before I did it I disabled the Intel graphics in device manager then installed the drivers then restarted and then enabled intel back on and its worked perfect ever since. so you guys could try that.

    Hey guys!

The Y570 looks great and accordingly I am thinking of buying it. The only thing I am concerned about is the noise emission, in particular in idle. I do lots of reading on my computer and therefore I need it to be whisper-quiet. Too high expectations maybe? I know that the laptop has 2 fans, do they turn themselves off at one point?

In gaming my expectations are low for obvious reasons, but I would not like it to sound like a vacuum cleaner either.

I am eyeing the quad-core model (otherwise the only one available in Romania), so you Y570 owners, would you be so kind and share with me your views on this model's loudness?

    Thanks!

    what noise emission ?

the laptop have just one fan.

were do you found your informations about noise and fan ?

the sound of the air in this laptop is like every one. cold not fan working sound. intensive tasks it is like every notebook in the world, you will listen the fan working to mantain the temperature cold.

you can use a super silent termal manegenment option in the setings, but with loose of performance to not make any sound.

What are the major differences from the y470 and y570 apart from the screen size and gt555m?

    I'm curious about

    Battery life
    temperature
    build quality
    charging time
    etc..

I am not sure which to get, the y570 is more powerful but I might need more portability for school.

Is there a big difference between the 555m and 550m?

I never see the y470. talking about the y570

Battery with normal use wifi on is about +-5h

    temperature is a cold notebook.

    build quality is very good.

charging time I not make a chronograph about this until this moment.

    keyboard is very good

display have good colors and quality. white is white, not like some LCD that the white is a little yellow.

the gt555m is a class 1 video card, and gt550m i do not know if it is class 1 or class 2, buts is about +- 1000 points in 3dmark 6 the diference of power of this cards.

    I hope it help you.

    sorry for my terrible english.

Has anyone created onekey restore factory default dvds for the y570? I ran it and it claimed it needed 3 dvds before I started but after I did the second disk, it just said completed. So not sure how i can verify it all worked lol..

Also is there any other way to make restore disks that I should make or is this pertty much it?

    Hi all,

I posted in the "what notebook to buy" section earlier but got no response, so I figured I'd check in here. I'm looking at the lenovo y470 right now since it's on sale for $600usd for the core i3 configuration.

I actually stumbled across it by accident since I was planning to get the Asus U46e with integrated graphics since my budget was so low. Since I don't need the dedicated graphics I need to know if the build quality is good enough to last me 3-4 years. Is the chassis aluminum -- I can't tell from pictures whether it is just silver plastic or actually metal. Compared to other 14" laptops how thin/light is it? Are there any glaring issues with the y470 model? What is the battery life when just web browsing / watching youtube?

A general question I have is whether the core i3 would be good enough or if I should be looking for core i5 2310m laptops.

    Thanks!

i've had my y570 for about a month now. i was also concerned about fan noise, but when not running games, the fan is ultra quiet. also nothing is hot. when running the nVidia graphics, the heat dispersion is great. yeah, you'll feel hot air out of the left side but it's all leaving your laptop. and the noise when running dedicated graphics isn't all that bad.

How do you create recovery DVDs?

Is anyone else having issues with Source games particularly Left 4 Dead 2 freezing/getting stuck loading? Just Cause 2 when minimizing or changing the volume the game not returning to full screen, becoming windowed and the area inside the window remaining black?

I'm using the Y570 with all original drivers. My wife has a Y470 and is not having any issues with Left 4 Dead 2 and hers is stock as well.

I just booted from the recovery disks and it worked just fine.

    to ekokinex

To create recovery dvds just open the OneKey recovery program.
I've played quite a bit of counter-strike:source on my y570 without a single problem but I upgraded my Nvidia drivers to 275.5 beta. If you do install 275.5 make sure you disable Intel graphics in device manager first then install 275.5 then restart and re-enable Intel graphics.

The portability of the Y470 makes it a better choice for university use. The apparent better specced "GT555M" in the Y570 has the same number of cores as the GT550M in the Y470. Only difference is it runs a DDR5 rather than DDR3 vram setup.

That's good to know. Is the ventilation and cooling system in the y470 as good as the y570? What about the battery life.

I plan on getting the i7 version so I am worried about heat/battery

I got my y570 on Thursday, July 21. I am generally happy with it. I had a couple of questions to throw out there. I bought the i5 / 4GB / Blu Ray / 750GB @ 5400 RPM, in case that affects any answers.

    1. I have ordered (but not received) a Runcore T50 60GB. This runs at SATA III (6Gb/s). Does the mSata port support this? It won'e be coming for more than a wekk, but when it gets here, I will report in with a speed update, since I can't find anyone who has tried this combination. The 15% restock fee is equal to the difference between the Sata II and Sata III versions, so I won't be returning it.

    2. I also have a 500 GB @ 7200 RPM. Will I see any speed improvement if I use it instead of the 750 GB @ 5400 RPM with an installed mSata? The 500 is a Seagate, and the 750 is a WD Scorpio Blue.

    3. I would like a higher resolution screen. All of the screen FRUs seem to use a 40 pin connector. I have found a few screens online, both 1600X900 and 1920X1080 (1920X1200?). I usually run screens at the 1920, but I have never seen that res on a 15.6" screen. Has anyone done this successfully? I see lots of people talking about the y470 screen replacement.

Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to read this.

I made my recovery discs of the original factory image. Two Philips DVD+R 4.7 GB each disc for the entire image. It only took 44 minutes to reach 99% and 10 minutes later it was finished (I thought that was funny). I liked that there is the option to create a recovery image on the disc for your PC as it currently is. This is the first time I've seen that.

Hey quick question for you all, is the IdeaPad mostly plastic? Or are there some metal/aluminum bits on it, especially on the palm rest area and the back of the screen. I am just slightly worried about build quality and its hard to tell from pictures.

    Thanks!

The only metal on the y470/y570 is the palm rest but its only a laminate piece of metal so its not real thick and the back of the lcd is just smooth non-textured plastic. Overall the build quality is slightly above average.

Does that bios mod apply to y570 as well?

    My model is the Y570

    1. Gaming
    I Not test yet

    2. Micr.Office+Music+Web

Is about +-5h half time nvidia/intel. it is a estimative. I am using a power schema from lenovo to mantaim the battery charge in 45-50% to increase the battery live. with this I am making 2 x the time to imagine a full charge time.

    3. Standby
    Not test yet

About the one touch, if you press it with the computer off, it boot in a option window with the option to run the Macfee without enter in your windows. maybe good to get virus that can stealth in the infected system.

the backup is very good too.

    Hi all,

I have the Y470 i5 and am very happy with everything so far but am having an issue with iTunes 64bit 10.4. My songs don't play all the way through, sometimes playing a few seconds before skipping to the next one and sometimes well into the song before skipping (without any predictable pattern even for the same song). It doesn't seem to be an issue with the transfer of music files from old computer to new computer b/c the same thing happens with new iTunes Store downloads and when I play music stored on my old computer through Home Sharing.

Any thoughts about what might be causing this? Is anyone else having the problem?

Is anyone else getting this problem?

The GPU activity drops correspond with a drop in FPS and this is really getting annoying as there is no fix.

    Any ideas?

Pressing the One Key Recovery button brings up a menu to create a couple different versions of recovery discs (current or factory) or to restore your computer to a previous state.

I've been having a weird issue, I used to be able to watch own3d.tv totally fine but all of a sudden all i see is the ads and then all streams are black with no sound. I've tried watching on chrome and firefox which both used to work. All other videos are fine(divx, espn3 stream, youtube, etc.). I changed my nvidia driver to the Verde 275.50 Driver beta. But i've used own3d plenty of times after the change. Another weird thing is I can watch recorded videos on own3d, just not live and my friends seem to be having no problem...

another issue is when I minimize a League of Legends, it says I have an outdated video card and shuts off the game. Is that because the game is flawed, the beta driver is flawed, or the game can't understand the gpu switch?

@angrykenji, the model Y570-08622JU have blue-ray. you can buy a reposition part from this model and use in your model.

but, much more good option is buy a USB 3 external blue-ray and use it in any machine that you have.

    FFFFFFFfFFFFF.

I was going to buy it tonight so that i could guarentee that it would come after my vacation, but i forgot, so it's the next day now and the sale is over.
    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
I'm so damn pissed right now. :(

Edit: No. I just realized. On logic buy, it said the deal expired teh 28th. So, I assumed that that meant the deal would end on the 28th and that it was the last day to get the deal. TODAY, the 28th, was when i was going to buy it. Thanks to faulty wording, I missed the deal. E.E

Edit dos: Ok, lenovo is really starting to stress me out. Now it's back to how the prices were. WHY DO YOU TORMENT ME LENOVO!!! At least I have all of today to order it.

Has anyone had trouble getting their order from Lenovo? It's been two weeks since I ordered a y470 and the estimated shipping date disappeared a couple days ago. I've called several times this week and they don't know anything about where my order is - just that my order has been received. It would be nice if there was a number I could call and speak to someone actually in the company and that speaks english. >.< It's really frustrating me because I ordered this laptop for college, and I'm going to leave for college in about 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

Well, Lenovo bought IBM's PC line, but I think Lenovo still relies on them for support and IT services so IBM can still do stuff for Lenovo.
After emailing them, my laptop shipped out a few hours later. I don't really know if that was just because it was supposed to ship that day (that was the estimated ship date which became blank that day) or because of my email.

What kind of charger does it need? I purchased a 95W slim adapter, will that be enough?

Lenovo has to get their self in order because this whole customer service thing is putrid

    the inside of my Y570.

is fantastic the quality, I never see nothing like this.

the cooler system , the fan structure is build in aluminium, not like the cheap crap usual in other notebooks

bro... ur lappy got heat issue??
im considering the y470... malaysian model..
    i7-2630QM+gt550m.
aside from the screen 'border'' issue.. any other complaints?? or is this lappy solid?
i want a lappy that lasts.... perhaps 3 years at least.

anyone here can be honest or not about the lappy's build.

be cause the next in line for my choice would be the Asus N43SL... specs are just mainstream.....

    thankyou. ^^
