Im having some problems with the newest drivers
Someone else might want to test it out as well, but i some significant performance drops and problems opening the control panel. Have any of you tested the newest 280 drivers yet?
-
Has anyone tried the NEW Verde 280.19 Driver? Is it worth the update? Have you noticed any increase in performance or better responsiveness from the 550m or 555m?
-
only solution i guess is reinstalling graphic drivers like hell. I think i reinstalled my driver over 5 times...
hopefully the newer driver resolves the issue for you. -
hi,
where can i get the lenovo y570 core i5 in uk or in germany(darmstadt)
or if anyone can provide a reliable shipping option to kenya
thanks...
need to get my hands on this beauty -
Does Lenovo usually ship these out sooner than the estimated delivery date? Because i'm going to be going on vacation next week, so i want to know if i'd be able to order it right before i go away, so that it can come a day or two after I get back.

This dropped the price from $1,399.99 to $949.99.
I ordered mine by phone order and after a little bargaining with the sales rep, i got him to drop the price to $909 and he discounted the price for the in-home warranty.
Hope This helps -
I saw that earlier in this thread, people were talking about possibly being able to replace the screen with a 1600x900 one. Has anybody done it yet? The regular screen resolution shouldn't be a problem to me (I'm using a 15.4" with a 1280x800 screen at the moment), but I am going to use this as a computer for college, and I think I will be going into Computer Science. Having the better resolution would be better for coding, but I could live with the default screen resolution.
Also, if anybody has tried this and done it successfully, what screen did you use? Also, how hard is it to replace the old screen with the new one? I don't want to risk breaking my laptop.
Ordered the i5 Y470 a couple days ago. Hopefully it ships fast! Can't wait to replace my 6 year old laptop with it!
EDIT: Last question, I promise. Is the Y470 compatible with Ubuntu? I'm assuming it is, but I just want to make sure before I try it. -
-
Does anyone know where I can find the y470 in Europe?
-
Just got in my i7 Y470. Glad to join the club.
A few observations:
1) Doesnt seem to run SC2 better than my 7805u /w 9800M GTS and 2.8 dual core.
2) USB 3.0 drops connections occasionally. Makes me pretty nervous about copying large files from an external HD.
3) Inception Blu Ray would not play with PowerDVD 10. I downloaded the trial version of 11 and it worked perfectly.
It does seem to run pretty cool, but I'm a little disappointed in the starcraft performance. Hopefully Lenovo will update the USB 3.0 so it is more reliable.
Oh, and the screen sucks -
I think I got the same model as you. Just installed Ubuntu yesterday and it works great (just make sure you don't stick the pendrive into a usb 3.0 slot if booting from usb because it doesn't work) -
So does Lenovo ship out your laptop with the latest drivers? Or the standard drivers that were out when the laptop was originally introduced earlier this year? -
Have been traveling a lot since I got my Y470 and am realizing how many hotel TVs (even flat screens) don't have an HDMI-in port. Will the VGA port on this support TV/composite video out so I can buy a cheap adapter, or would I need to get a more expensive VGA to RCA converter box? Can't find any info in the video card specifications.

I started to take my Y470 apart just for fun... and had to stop halfway after I found a Lenovo sticker over one of the screws... decided it's better not to risk the warranty... but it's pretty easy to take apart... I just needed to remove that one screw to take the chassis apart... haven't been able to remove the screw cover on the screen to check the connector though... and using a flat head screwdriver doesn't sound like the smartest idea...
I'm posting this from the laptop... so no... I didn't break anything... lol -
Hey guys,
I live in Ontario, Canada and I am about to order an ideapad y570 from the lenovo Canada website and I just had a few questions about the warranty and return policy of lenovo products. I am just getting the one year base warranty that comes with the laptop and I was wondering if I had to use my warranty would I have to ship the laptop back to lenovo at my own expense? Also, there are a few warranty service providers in my area but would they provide service with no charge until my warranty is in effect? Or do warranty service providers also have a fee of their own? Lastly, if I am not satisfied with the product and I choose to return it,would I have to pay shipping expenses as well ( i am already aware of the 15% restocking fee)?
Thanks for all your help guys. It's my first time purchasing a laptop online so I was wondering about service after purchase when compared to buying in-store. -
As far as repairs, they send you an RMA but it may not be a shipping sticker to use. I'm not sure how Lenovo does things. You're probably better off with the warranty service provider in your area but please make sure you read their terms and privacy notice to make sure that you aren't blindsided by a weird fee or additional charge.
Also, i hope you're patient when it comes to shipping because Lenovo is erratic when it comes to shipping. Just by reading through this thread, some ppl have gotten their laptops very quick, and others had to wait close to a month to receive theirs.
And if you arent satisfied, then you may be better off selling your laptop on Ebay or Craigslist, if there's a craigslist in Canada -
I also love the heat dispersion that is utilized in this laptop.
One of the biggest factors in choosing this laptop was how hot it got and how much power it consumed. And it seems that this laptop stays pretty cool while under a large amount of stress and it doesn't use to much power, depending on what you have in your laptop. -
Well, i must ask, i looked at this laptop a few days ago, searching for a good laptop for the university... This one looks good, has good internals and the keyboard seems really good though, but, i only could read very diferent opinions about the build quality, someones says great and someones else says awful, dondt really know.... I take a good care of my thing, but i just hate the things to be tooooooo flimsy and being cracking all the time wile im using it, if this is not the case great, if it cracks wile holding it, well, i guess for the price i cant care too much... What do you guys owners of this laptop says? BTW im talking of th Y570..
My work on this, code, code, and games
Cheers! -
My only major problem with this laptop is that I'm getting EMI noise from the headphone jack. This is not what I referred to in my previous posts, rather it's a static-type very low pitch background noise. Obviously, something inside the laptop is not shielded properly.
-
Maybe a defective laptop?... I haven't had any issues with my headphone jack...
*knocks on wood* -
i must ask some of you, what was the weight of the package when you looked on UPS tracking? The weight of my package is pretty light, like under 4 lbs
That sounds pretty off IMO. -
Regarding the Y470,
what can I expect to get for battery life running a word processor? -
-
@Junior 5 and a half hours at least imo
-
Soo... it looks like the new driver is not compatible with the GT 555M
-
-
-
Yeah, I updated again and have no problems.
-
-
Perhaps it's my imagination that with this driver noise has become less than with y470 driver. -
-
Here's a screen cap of the update fail for those who doubt me.

I have the y570, so it might be different but starcraft runs fine for me. I do get fps lag when it gets too hot, but that's my fault for blocking the vents.
-
@bblackmon no artifacting? I turned off my OC cuz I was getting some pretty disturbing artifacts, maybe the newer drivers are more stable.
-
Anyway how'd you do it? -
Also it seems to get worse when touching and using the trackpad. -
Thank you Aradalf -

Sooo... I just ordered my Y470 on friday, and it said the estimated ship date was 8/10/11. I didn't customize it at all, it was just the base model i5 one. I got a pretty nice deal on it too, $730 including tax and all that. Base price with deal was $674. Would that make me go way down on the priority list or something? I checked the page for IdeaPad y470's on Lenovo's site and it said estimated ship date was 8/6/11. Has anyone had to wait two weeks before it ships?
-
-
it depends really... mine arrived at my house 5 days after I ordered it.
-
It's really hit or miss. Not sure what dictates how fast or slow Lenovo ships out the product. But your estimated ship date is very normal and it may ship out faster than that. Although it might not, so be prepared for that as well.
Yes there's also been people who had to wait two weeks or more -
Also, that's my other gripe with Lenovo is that you don't have a customizing option.
That's why i find it perplexing as to why the process would take so long. Shouldn't they have an assembly line that has plenty of these made to ship? -

One last question... How are the graphics on this thing? I know we don't all have the same configuration, but we should basically all have the GeForce GT 550M GPU right?
