The GFX on this thing is great, although I've yet to install any demanding games. I did run bechmarks and it scored pretty well... Doesn't compare to my desktop... but full desktop graphics on a laptop is almost impossible to get.
As for the sig... don't know... maybe you have to have 10 posts for it to become available...
-
Yea I got the signature to finally work... Nice to know that it has good GFX.
-
Anyone got linux running on their y470s? If so, does battery life increase?
-
come on guys...no one can help me out?
-
guys...someone please help where i can get the y570 i5 in germany in darmstadt....HeLP
-
Did you try the german lenovo site? you can choose the country from a drop down menu on the top of the main page...
-
Well, Lenovo just said that my y470 shipped ahead of time. Is this the part that varies as far as how long it takes, or is it when UPS has it? I'm guessing the time when the wait is unknown is when Lenovo still has the laptop.
-
Okay about to buy the y470 but have a few questions.
1. I've heard mixed reviews of the build quality, can anyone comment (screen, keyboard, etc.)?
2. Battery life... what's the max I could get? I have back to back 3 hour classes and I'm worried it will die.
3. I've read quite a few comments about accidently moving the mousepad when typing, does this happen a lot? I don't want to be constantly turning ff the mousepad..
4. Lastly, should I get the i5 or i7? Would the i5 give me significantly better battery life? -
It's the first part that so many (including myself) have had problems with. The time it takes to get your computer out of Lenovo's warehouse is highly variable. I ordered my y470 on the 14th of July and it was expected to ship on the 26th. For the last week, I have not had any info on the order page, and only today did it finally ship. So hopefully I will have it soon, seeing as UPS is far more predictable.
-
Yeah, that's what I thought. At least yours is finally shipping!
And I just found a video on YouTube that was uploaded yesterday that shows how to replace the screen in the y570. I'm assuming that the process for the y470 is the same, but I may be wrong. It looks pretty easy. Maybe this video may help people figure out if it is possible to put a higher quality screen inside?
Here is the video. -
Hi all, I just got my y470 a few days ago and already I have a few gripes.
- I'm having the same feedback issues with the headphone jack that some others described. Has anyone been able to fix this?
- When playing audio that is mostly talking/speech, I get buzzing in the laptop speakers, as if they have both been blown, even at mid-range volume. I noticed this as soon as I opened up the package and turned the laptop on.
- Finally, the LCD has very small, very faint diagonal lines going across it that give light colors a "textured" look. Has anyone else had this problem? I could ignore it if I wasn't planning on using this laptop for graphic design.
Any feedback in resolving these issues/similar experiences would be appreciated. Thanks! -
I can't say anything about the last two bullets, since I don't have my y470 yet, but there is one thing that people say helps with the headphone issues. I guess if you go to the power options and make sure your WiFi is set to max, it solves the problem for some people. If I have that headphone problem, I'm going to try that first.
-
Hi, thanks for your quick response! Unfortunately I already have the wifi set on "Maximum performance" for both battery and AC. I tried the PC beep thing and that doesn't seem to help either. =(
-
After searching the Lenovo forums, I found that people had this problem with other Y series IdeaPads, and they fixed that problem with an updated Realtek driver. Here is the driver for the y470/y570. I'm not sure if this version of the driver is already shipped with the laptop, since I don't have mine yet. But if it is an updated version, trying this out might fix it.
-
Well I installed that driver and it didn't help--in fact, it only made the feedback louder. What has worked for me best so far is to install the original Windows sound drivers. With them, feedback is audible but extremely quiet--it's hard to tell it's there unless you listen for it.
-
It's decent, not a tank, but it doesnt feel like it's cheaply made either,
Max would be 7h, but thats at complete idle, 6 hours of constant on might be pushing it.
Yes, that does happen to me, but there is palm check in synaptics and you can turn that on so you cant type and accidently move the mouse at the same time.
If you dont need the processing power of the i7 the i5 would be better. -
6HOURS!? HOW!? I have the i7 model, and I can only get 4hours while browsing/playing music at half brightness.

The battery is 62Whr, so 4 hrs means 15.5W average power draw. The music playing will add considerable power draw due to the HDD being regularly accessed and the speaker output. Turn off the music and you'd probably be able to get another 2hrs easily. -
I received my y570 today. I like the speaker output, and the screen is equal to an HP dv6 I returned to best buy. I loaded bad company 2 and got some stutter in the first cinematic portion of the game. I don't think that happened with the dv6 I returned. The keyboard of the y570 is nice, but I prefer the HP dv6 keyboard.
-
Does anyone else's monitor have this characteristic? I might go as far as to return the laptop, but I don't want to receive a new one with an identical screen.
-
@nikpmr i'm not seeing it could you post an example?
-
@brosef, updating the nvidia drivers to the newest Beta verde 280.xx helps
-
^This, I'll give it a go.
-
anyone with the y570 have a slow system? I have the i7/750gig/8gig ram and i was expecting a super fast notebook. Instead, it freezes with just three applications on. My y550 with 4gig ram was faster.
-
I can't post a screenshot because it seems to be a monitor issue rather than a graphics issue; I tried an external monitor and I no longer see the lines. If it helps, it's the exact issue described in this discussion.
-
My y470 comes via UPS today... Excited to crack it open, update the drivers, get steam going, and see what she can do...
Are the Beta verde 280.xx drivers the best way to go out of the box? -
I just started having weird problems in games with the 280's, like starcraft 2 would black screen randomly and in counter-stike my fps would jump around like crazy so I went back to the 275.5 and havent had any problems.
-
Okay, so when my Ideapad y470 comes in the mail, what should be among the first things I do? I know I will uninstall a lot of crapware, but what stuff do you think I should keep? And what drivers should I install?
-
My Y470 has been held up in Louisville, KY (customs apparently) for three (3) days now.... Can anyone else shine a little light on how long it typically takes before UPS is permitted to complete the delivery? Appreciate it.
-
Ordered my Y570, received notification that it was shipped yesterday. When I receive it I will likely format the drive, install Windows 7 Ultimate, and start with the 280 NVIDIA beta drivers and the newest ones from Intel and Realtek. I'll post what problems I come across.
Somewhat bothersome that so many people are reporting problems with audio and weak graphics performance.... -
I have almost the same build as you. It seems like most of my problems have to do with the Optimus switching graphics. My computer runs fine but one program seems to shut itself off when I minimize it because the graphics card switches and it can't comprehend. Either that or the driver to the nvidia video card is not good (most of the people in this forum seem to believe so).
My solution for now is to switch off the nvidia gpu using the manual switch in the front of the computer unless I know I'm going to use a graphics intensive program. My computer runs many programs totally fine but I got a pcie form factor ssd and installed windows and programs on it. I wiped the main hard drive and use it more as a storage device. This ssd has made my computer run WAY faster than running it on the 5400rpm hard drive it came with. I would recommend it any day! -
Thanks for the explanation Leoaj. I'll be sure to use the Intel card for CPU applications and ordinary work. I've read in this thread that installing an sdd drive is pretty straight forward so i'll try that in a bit.
Now, just to solve the other 2 problems with this notebook:
1.Headphone static
2. Inability to run Crysis/Warhead/Crysis without lag
-
I just installed a new driver for the intel(R) HD Graphics 3000. And one of the updates was for audio so maybe try that? I haven't really had headphone static problems though. I think Crysis/Warhead will run better a) When nvidia gets their sh*t together n makes a good driver (people have been trying beta builds if you surf this thread if you wanna be daring) and b) running it off of a ssd. And yes the installation is straight forward:
1) make recovery dvds with one key restore (choose if you want factory build, or current build, forget 3rd option)
2) Turn comp off, remove hard drive, add ssd and screw it in (mine didn't come with a screw but a tiny one from my old laptop fit)
3) Turn computer back on with recovery dvd in and let it work its magic.
4) Set bios run priority to the ssd, then turn computer off again and put hard drive back in.
5) Then if you want to wipe the hard drive for maximum space you can do it by right clicking computer and hitting 'manage.' -
What SSD did you buy? ANd what was the purpose of making the recovery dvds
-
To populate the SSD with original factory source code.
-
Just as an update, my laptop finally shipped on monday. Its in Louisville now. Hopefully it gets in before I go on vacation next week.
-
Does Y470 have backlit keyboard? Please let me know.
-
Hey guys, I'm going to order the y470 today and just have one last decision to make.
I can get the i5 with 4gb of ram for $747.
For $844 I can get it with the i7 and 8gb of ram.
Any suggestions on which route to take? -
I got the 80GB intel 310 series There are a lot of in depth threads about the mSATA SSDs in the SSD/Flash storage section of this forum that I found helpful if you want to look further into it.
The Recovery DVDs are the easiest way to get windows onto your SSD because you want to run windows on the ssd not the factory hard drive (lenovo doesn't ship recovery discs but provides one key restore software to easily make it yourself). The one key restore discs will also recognize the drive as SSD and will install windows onto it with the most efficiency as opposed to other software that just transfers the image as if it were another sata hard drive. -
I have the y570 and it doesn't have a backlit keyboard so I assume the y470 doesn't either.
Sounds like a nice upgrade for just $100 I personally like taking that extra step when buying laptops because these guys get outdated really quick and you generally want it to last and not be prehistoric in a year or 2. -
alright so just got my y470 in today. It booted up, so far so good lol
Making recovery disk right now. Want to get that done and out the way
The keyboard is really beautiful though. I see exactly what you guys were talking about.
From pictures i could see that the 470 was pretty slim and in person, it's definitely a slender laptop that looks like it will be cool for the most part. -
My laptop is shipping by UPS, and I have a question. This morning, my laptop was in Anchorage, AK, but now it is in Louisville, KY, which is further away from where I live (Washington State). Any reason why they did this?
-
Hi, Can you guys help me choose whether to get the y570 or dell xps 15. The only reason why im not sure is cuz i heard the screen on the y570 sucks.
-
@matt, it's for customs
-
@grackling the y570 has a standard screen. It's average.
-
Alright, thanks for the advice!
-
Just ordered my Y470. Can't wait!
-
Sounds like our computers are in the same batch shipment!
-
Just order mine today also! Do I get the UPS tracking number when it ships?
-
Ordered Y570 a while ago, still waiting i want it bad
