Hi guys, I've got a little bit of a problem with the audio on my computer. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned in the thread before, since the search function never seems to work right for me.

My problem isn't the static noise that most people have problems with. My problem just started recently, and only happens every once in awhile. Every so often, usually when I'm listening to music, the audio kind of stutters for a second and then goes back to normal, and then 5 seconds later stutters again. It usually does this 5 or 6 times, and then it goes back to normal. Its hard to describe what it sounds like, but the best way I can describe it is that it sounds like the audio is glitching out.

Also, whenever I start or stop something that uses audio, I sometimes hear a popping noise out of the speakers, which gets a little annoying.

And yes, I have updated my Realtek drivers, and I have tried it with headphones and the speakers. It does the same thing on both.

Hopefully you guys can help me out with this!

    here's your solution.

at the bottom in your task bar tray there should be a icon called Synaptics. Right click on it and get to Options or Settings or Configure, whatever it says. I'm sorry but i disabled it and forgot what exactly it says, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

it's true that the gt555 in the y570 is the slower version compared to the dell and others. but yes, it can also easily be over clocked (using a free program called MSI Afterburner) to achieve almost the same performance. maybe a tad bit better, don't quote me on that.

also, just wondering. how much did you pay total after taxes?

OK i can't tell you everything i disabled because i don't remember, but i'll just open up my tray icon and list the stuff that i DID NOT disable on the laptop that came with it from factory.

hopefully you can see what icons i have enabled and which ones i got rid of.

    I have...

    Realtek HD Audio manager
    One-Key Theater
    Energy Management
    nVidia GPU Activity
Bluetooth TURNED OFF (Icon still in tray, but it's red meaning bluetooth signal is off = save battery)

and that's all. that's 5 icons in my tray. everything else i disabled it by going into it and going to settings and "Disable on start up" and what not. hope this helps..

I've got the Y470 and can't see the option to change what closing the lid does anymore. When I first booted the computer, I was able to see it in the left hand pane in power options, but now it's gone. I had changed it so that closing the lid did nothing and now, I can't access the option anywhere!

    Any advice/help? Thanks.

Hey guys I own the Y570 and haven't really tested out the gaming performance. Can you guys tell me your framerates when playing some modern games? Games like Starcraft II, Crysis 1 and 2, Black Ops, Minecraft. Or anything esle? Also do you think I should overclock the GT 555m? I have a laptop cooling pad if that helps.

    Thanks in advance!

@rogue, your screen detection one, if you go into to look at your hadrware itll show that there is an error with it, you need to uninstal the one with the error restart and it'll auto reinstall.

@whoever wanted on off nvidia swtich, yes there is a way, go into the nvidia control panel and look, you can set it to always prefer to use the nvidia graphics card when it is turned on, that way it doesnt swtich back.

starcraft 2 = 30 +? high enough it doesnt matter

Minecraft = 200?.... high enough it doesnt matter

Crysis 2 = Piece of game. No but, 25 ish?

The framerate in sc2 is really good! At all high settings you get close to 100 at times and over 60 most of the time. If you want to play on Ultra it drops to ~30 fps. But my opinion is that on this small screen and small resolution there is no need of Ultra settings. :)

    btw i have a question -

Im using Cooler Master U2 cooling pad and i get 89-90 on the cpu cores and 78-79 on the gpu after 1 hour of sc2. is that good? i mean r u getting better results with other cooling pads. im thinking of making a home made 2x120mm fans cooling pad for home use only and stick with the U2 in my backpack. :)

That's no good either, condensed cold air (like hot steam air) moves into the laptop parts. Slowly but steadily over time your internal parts will have small water packets in them and start to rust. It's like pouring a bottle of water onto the bottom of your laptop one drop at a time each hour over a months time.

The Cooler Master U2 is a far better solution and if you replace the fans with some better ones like Yate Loon low RPM ones, the cooler may work a bit better. What I like about the U2 is that is very portable and solidly made plus the fan can be relocated and replaced if needed.

Not only is the ice maker method dangerous for your internal parts but it's also very unstable to support the laptop properly and there's a high chance that the laptop could tip over by accident during use, this will not be covered by Lenovo's warranty both internally and externally in the case of user error with the usage of this cooling method.

I Have HWMonitor, GPU-Z, Real Temp and Core Temp. They all work very well and basically do the same thing.

HWMonitor should do the trick as an all-in-one to check and monitor all temps including CPU, individual cores, south bridge chipset, IGP, NVIDIA GPU, hard drive and external hard drives.

Course you can use whatever you like based on personal preference, they're all small programs that do not require installation.

    CPUID Hardware Monitor.

shows you the temp for everything. processor, hard disk drive, graphics, battery charge level, etc

normal range should be 40-45 at idle (not doing anything at all on the comp)
50-60 regular internet surfing / watching youtube videos / light usage
70-85 during heavy load as in playing games

So my laptop finally shipped today after a week of processing... and it's a holiday here today too. :|

It says "Estimated Ship" is tomorrow. Does that estimated ship = date THEY send it out and not the day I get it? Or do they expect my laptop to get here in a day? ._.

I'm just estimating based on experience, but I'd say around 29 plus or minus 4 frames depending on situation. I have the settings on Medium. I get a little bit of mouse lag when using the in-game menus (I almost totally reduced it by changing a couple settings, but from what I understand it is a known issue with the game).

To be honest, from what I'd read, I was scared that it would be a waste of $$$, but I'm pleasantly surprised.

I've played Batman Arkham Asylum, Crysis, Mirror's Edge, Shattered Horizon - they all run well enough that the frame rates could be 50 or 500 per second. Crysis was on high (not very high).

I know that the GT 555m in the Lenovo is crap compared to the other version of the card, but I might be able to get some extra frames with an overclock :D

We have the same config and I avg less than 20 on medium with the witcher 2. And that's using gamebooster and using msi to overclock. I recommend using fraps to see your fps, i highly doubt its in the 30s for the witcher 2.

Hey guys I checked to see if my laptop shipped from Amazon, and it still hasn't! It's been at least six days and it has not even come yet... Also, if it even matters, I choose the FREE shipping option and it said 5-8 business days. And I ordered it on August 30, 2011 and it's September 6, 2011.

5-8 business days does not include the weekend which means up to 10 days including one weekend (Sat/Sun) not counted at business days if that makes sense.

If the order is not shipped by the 9th this Friday I'd be worried and contact Amazon to see what's going on.

if you're lucky it will get shipped by this week.

but seriously, you need to do some reading before you just buy stuff. it CLEARLY SAYS IT where i outlined it in red..

    3-5 weeks from Aug 30 would be Sept 21 - Oct 4th

add 5-8 business days since you got the free shipping method it could arrive at your front door as early as Sept 28th or as late as October 14th.

remember, Saturday and Sunday does not count as a shipping day only monday through friday.

luckily i ordered mines directly through lenovo.

    y570
    i7
    8gb ram
    500gb 7200rpm hdd
    no blu-ray, no ssd

$920 after taxes and 2 day shipping.

placed order on Saturday, Aug 20th. received e-mail saying "EST. Ship date Friday, Aug - 29". I was expecting for it to arrive August 31st, or September 1st
3 days later on Tuesday, Aug 23 received a e-mail saying my shipment has just left the facility. so it was actually 6 days earlier before the "Estimated" date i was e-mailed right after placing my order.
Thursday, August 25 my Y570 arrives from fedex

    now that's fast

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem on the y570: When I try to adjust my screen brightness the screen brightens or dims accordingly, but the bar that indicates screen brightness remains at the same level. Has anyone had this and fixed it?

what should be on my to-do list when my y470 arrives...so far I have:

    1. Remove software that I don't need (suggestions on what to keep?)
    2. Install Anti-virus/spyware programs
    3. windows updates
    4. Update Nvidia drivers? (should this be done?)
    ...

what else do you guys recommend that I do? Thanks.

hmm if it says "Delivery Estimate" than chances are it will be shipped out of the amazon warehouse Sept 8 - 12th.

That doesn't include the 5-8 business days it takes for the item to ship to your house.

I also put a 500gb hybrid seagate drive in and all is well. I like my y470 and so far so good. Thanks again for the help.
