hey guys, what kind of power option do you guys operate on a daily basis? The default is set to energy star... I changed mine to High Performance. Do you guys switch to balanced when running on battery?
i set my battery option to 'best battery health', so if i put the laptop in sleep mode, do i keep the AC charger plugged in?
should I keep the rapid storage technology? I'm not sure if that will be useful for me or not..
-
Compare driver versions on your PC to the ones on the website, if you have older drivers it is generally a good thing to upgrade, but I would not recommend downgrading if you have newer drivers than are listed on the Lenovo site.
-
Thank you for the response, I know Lenovo knows about the issue now and I hope they have an updated BIOS soon, I figured if I raised the topic in this thread others may join in on the request and raise it in Lenovo's work queue. I will be extremely cautious when flashing.
-
It has to do with encryption and decryption and is one of the reasons I sprung for the i7 over the i5.
-
i leave my y570 in "energy star" mode when watching videos, surfing net, music.
but when i play deus ex, or battlefield 2 or any game that requires the graphics card i turn it onto "high performance". i also turn my thermal management to "Efficient Thermal Dissipation" mode since the cpu and gpu both tend to heat up alot during gaming compared to surfing and watching movies -
if i keep it on high performance all the time (and my laptop is plugged in most of the time), that would not be a problem right?
-
how do you get to the thermal management settings on Y470?
-
Luis_GT or other Y470 Owners,
Y470 with 4GB RAM machine come with 2X2GB sticks or 1X4GB stick ? or its random. -
mine came with 2X2GB
-
shouldn't be a problem, but if you are gonna be gaming i would recommend unplugging the battery and just leaving the laptop plugged in.
idk why, but it just seems more logical way of not draining the overall battery life. i read somewhere that it isnt good to keep the laptop plugged in when the battery is already fully charged. -
How large of an mSATA SSD do I need to run the y470? I see my cheaper options are the 40gb Intel, 32gb Mydigital and 32GB Kingspec - Will any one of therse work? and any pros and cons?
-
hi, I read a lot of the comments posted here..
I bought a y570 a few days ago and i'm having problems with the nvidia graphic card - when i'm playing games with the AC adaptor plugged, i get lagg and the game stutters; works smooth with AC adapter unplugged.
I tried anything i could find on forums: updated nvidia driver to 280.26, unchecked the smart power-saving hard drive option, chose balanced power saving, but i keep having the problem.
Does anyone know a good work-arround? -
I saw that a lot of people complained about this in june, some work-arrounds were suggested and recently nobody else complained about this issue? Could anyone who had the issue tell me what should i do to fix this?
-
Luis_GT,
Thank you -
Any 50mm mSATA SSD should fit... but I suggest you go at least 64GBs
-
thanks, i also use battery option - 'best battery health', so even if it is plugged in, it won't charge beyond 50%...so hopefully i'm doing my battery a favor right there =)
i have another question for anyone who can help... the wheel on my touchpad is a bit too sensitive, where can I go to decrease the sensitivity of it? thanks -
Hey Guy's, if anyone is interested about the framerates I'm getting in games here it is:
Crysis 1: On High with 30-40 FPS
Portal 2: Max Settings with 60~ FPS
League of Legends: Max Settings with 50 to 60 FPS
Minecraft: Max Settings with 100~ FPS
Mafia II: Low-Medium settings (Still look's really, really good) with 40~ FPS
Team Fortress 2: Max Settings with 80~ FPS
Dragon Age II: High Settings with 30-60 FPS
Starcraft II: High Settings with 50~ FPS
Counter Strike Source: Max Settings with 70~ FPS -
how did you fix the nvidia gpu issue(the one with lagg when ac adapter plugged in)?
sorry for being insistent, but i'm thinking of returning the laptop and i wanted to know if anybody fixed the problem somehow. -
Hm... im getting alot more FPS in SC2. Maybe its because im with the i7 version. Is SC2 quad core optimized? Anyone?
-
I had lag issues with the latest drivers, I switched back to the OEM drivers and haven't experienced any lag since...
-
How do i go back to the original drivers and what's the process to do that? Im sorry, i am a noob...i got my y470 a month ago and all my games ran fine..crysis 2 and fifa 11 run perfectly...i had to send it for a fix, i got it back last week..Since i got it back, i always get a stutter or lag that happens randomly through every game...it's really annoying and i hope you can help
-
I went to device manager, selected the nvidia gfx, went to properties and selected roll back driver.
-
You can try normal Uninstall + DriverSweeper + Install the old driver. Find a guide for DriverSweeper.
-
I don't have the option to rollback, it's greyed out but all the other options for the driver is available..My laptop gets hotter than it used to and every time i play games (crysis 2, fifa and batman), they stutter a couple of times throughout the gameplay. Whenever I hit 70 degrees, the stuttering starts happening. Does that happen and what is your best suggestion to fix it. Thanks for the earlier suggestion
-
Well, you could try to uninstall the driver and download an older one from the nvidia site...
My computer hits 88C playing games and it's never given me any issues. -
Well, I never got this problem before.
-
What setting are you on? And how many FPS? Also are you on the latest driver for nvidia?
-
I am not sure of the exact version (have to check later) but it's not the latest. My settings are at high (where possible) and every CPU dependent setting is at the max possible. My FPS is around 70-75 and i play mostly 3v3 and 4v4 where large battles occur. At the start of the game the FPS may hit 90+.

Hi there,
I'm interested in getting the Y470. If I get the i3 model, would I able to put in a i7 processor? No compatibility issues?
Also, anyone know of any good coupons/deals for this laptop?
Thank you -
Hi
I am really intrested to buy y570 model (i7_ nvidia555)
I want to know is there any issue or problem or downsides with this model?
I searched alot in internet but I could'nt find any thing about cons.It has two side
1_this laptop is not popular and no one buy it. so there is no report of issue
2_or this model is very solid good and no one has problem with this
I want to know which one is true.
thank you
edit: can you please tell me what exactly is headphone issue? -
Well I was having lag issues in the first place, that's why I updated the driver, as I read on some forums. By oem driver you meen the driver on lenovo official page? What driver version are you using? I have the nvidia gt 555
LE: ok, i tought of re-installing the energy management from lenovo official page(didn't find anywhere to check the exact version of what i had installed). I uninstalled first the program on my notebook and tested a game with the AC adapter plugged. Everything went smooth, no lag at all. Only i'm wondering how important Lenovo Power Management is to the laptop, is Windows power management enough, or do i risk damaging my computer without it?
Thanks in advance for an answer.
PS: Please still tell me, if you can, what nvidia driver version you use
-
I've been intrigued by the Y470 and Y570 since their debut. I'm in no hurry to purchase a laptop at this time, but certainly wouldn't mind since I gave my T400 away to the wife for university.
My hesitation to purchase today (or at least soon) is driven by the fact that these two models were released back in ~April. I fear that a redesign or at least a better screen and video card option would be made available before the Holidays.
Any thoughts or insights? Or am I just being ridiculous... : ) -
I have the Nvidia 267.43 drivers currently... I also did disable all the smart power saving options on the Lenovo Power management software. -
Just got mine today!
Im in loveeeeeeeeeeee -
yeah, uninstalling the lenovo power management didn't do the trick.. went back to 267.43 driver for nvidia, still having lag.. all drivers are up to date- according to lenovo site.. donno what else to do.. kinda ty lenovo didn't have an official comment on this issue, i read that many had this problem.
-
Answer to your question in order
1. "Laptop is not popular and no one buy it so there is no report of issue" - Uhh.... You're posting in a thread about 160 pages long, all of which is talking about the Y470/Y570. Plenty of user reviews if you read through each page.
2. Some people are unlucky and have problems with theirs. Other people who buy the exact same model get lucky and have no problems. Hit and miss.
Head Phone Issue - People say when they plug in ear/head phones in, they get a noise that sounds much like "static" -
First post but just ordered a Y470 i7, 8gb ram, 500gb 7200rpm....should be in in about a week... I cant wait, decided it was time for a laptop instead of building another desktop(right now im pc-less as the cpu fried...but was 4yrs old...so was time anyway)
My Asus Transformer is good but i need a pc back in hand.

congrats, you'll love it.

I was able to fix the lag spike issue that happens with all games and my lags are finally gone.. the first thing i did was click the soft touch button with the "crescent moon image" (i think) and it is also the soft touch button that is two buttons away from the "volume down" soft touch button.i choose the "Dedusting" option and did two sessions of that process. After that, i choose the "efficient thermal dissipation" option and voila, no more lag in games...it really cools down the system and my games stay at 55 degrees instead of 70. I hope this helps anyone with the lag issue as well...sorry for the bad grammar as well -
i'll try that. i also thought of trying a clean install of windows and putting a more up-to-date nvidia driver, see where that takes me. if that doesn't work i'll return the laptop(i see no sense of trying to send it to service) and get a Dell xps 15- costs a bit more but from what i saw on forums there are less issues with it..
-
You shouldn't have any issues. There version of the Y470 that ships w/ i7 CPUs. Got one myself the other week actually. Performance is great but it's somewhat clunky. Swapped out the HDD for a Crucial m4 and the system now boots in 15 secs.
-
Yutsmail... Lenovo.com has a 72hr sale going on right now, last day of the event I believe... I ended up getting the Y470 i7 w/ 500gb 7200 drive for $879 before tax (it has been a little cheaper prior but this wasnt too bad either)

@yutsmail
You cannot swap processors on laptops, either get the i7 off the get go or trade up through the Lenovo program that allows you to trade up to a more expensive PC but you have to pay for warranty over again. -
You can most certainly switch the CPU on the Y470. It's a lot of work and more difficult than on a desktop since the keyboard, MoBo, HSF and a bunch of other things have to be removed first. I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you tinker a lot normally and know what you are doing. The maintenance guide actually have some nice schematics on how it's done. GPU however is a different story.

Hello all,
Just want to update.
Got my computer late last month (Ideapad Y470 i7) and couldn't be happier. Lots of bloatware, but got rid of most of them (except that stupid gaming thing Easybits that doesn't show on the uninstall menu -- anyone know how to get rid of that?) The hardware switch is actually useful to modulate my GPU use (off most of the time, on when i am called to WoW) but a word of caution: the computer runs really hot when the GPU is on and you an turn your fan to MAX. Otherwise, no complaints. -
So the y470 doesnt come with a Windows 7 dvd. So i just have to use the system recovery to get it in its original state. But does it have a default back-up point or do you have to create one as soon as you start the laptop for the first time?
-
i believe it has its own backup point.
-
My laptop is not charging inspite of being plugged in .
I suspect the charger is faulty . It is showing yellowish light on the power supply led. Can anybody tell what is their light colour ? -
my y570 is WHITE.
-
Just ordered my lenovo y570 from Amazon. As I am currently living in Japan,im having it shipped to my brother in the USA, who will then ship it to me here. Anyone have issues shipping notebooks to Japan before?
