LOL...I didn't mean all hardware is recognized by default.
It's pretty much a given that Windows 7 SP1 does not have USB 3.0 and GT 555M drivers by default. -
So I can't get my USB 3.0 ports to work properly. I have a USB 3.0 external HD that would not recognize in my laptop out of the box, updated to the newest renesas drivers and it picked it up, great. Rebooted and wont recognize. It recognizes in the 2.0 and 2.0 work in the 3.0 but no 3.0 in the 3.0. I cant rollback the drivers and uninstalling and rebooting doesnt work as it just picked them back up again...
any ideas? -
Hello everyone!
Ive had the lenovo y470 for over 3 weeks now. I'm in love with the laptop. Good performance, great battery lifw and excellent speakers, all that I wanted.
However, there is a strange problem that Im facing.
Its falls off wi-fi sometimes when I go from one room to another. This happened during the first week, and I didnt use it much for the next week (about 3 hours a day and only in one room). However this has happened over 5-6 times over this time. And the worse part is, it doesnt connect again for atleast 30-40 minutes, I have to reboot the router/modem a couple times or shut my laptop down for sometime.
I couldnt find any info related to this on google. Has anyone of you ever faced this problem? If so, how did you get it solved?
This is really pissing me off and causing a lot of inconvenience.
Any help on this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks
Maulik -
To both the above posts, it would help us greatly if you can include the other hardware involved with your problems ad any other information that would help us identify your case a bit better.
Example: USB 3.0 external hardware manufacturer and model number. Wireless router manufacturer, model number and location of router and laptop in the house. -
Hi Nemix,
Wireless router used is Netgear N-150, WNX1000 v2. and the router is kept in the room next to mine.
Ive also lost connection if I come to my room from that room.
Some more info. I live with my room mates and there are in all 5 laptops and about 5 other deivces (cell phones, tablets etc) connected. None of the other deivces are facing any such problem. Ive had used 2 ideapads before I switched to this one, and that never showed this problem either.Earlier one was a y560p, and I had to return it because of some speaker problem in it.
Thanks. -

@ naughtytude
Try updating the drivers to these, they are the latest:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... 64-bit*&DownloadType= Software Applications
Also, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings (left hand side) > Right Click Properties on Intel WiFi Adapter > Configure > Advanced
Change some of the settings on there to better match the setting on your router.
Example: Change to G only if you're router is does not support N
Change roaming (unsure of the real name) to lowest to prevent the card from trying to find and connect to a better access point
Change other settings that you think may have something to do with your disconnects.
Disable the Intel my WiFi option if you're not using the laptop as an access point for your devices. (Can't tell you how ATM but Google should have your answer)
On the router try changing to wireless N only if there's the option to and change the security to WPA-TKIP or even WEP to so if it helps.
Download this: inSSIDER_Download | MetaGeek to check which channels are being used the most on your radius. Then manually change the channel on your router to one of the following channels that is least used from the scan: Channel 1, 6 and 11
Also, open the bottom chassis of the laptop and check the connection of the antenna wires to the WiFi card has not become loose.
I do not have my laptop right now and do not own a NetGear router (getting 5Ghz NetGear soon) so this is the best I can do.
If all else fails, I'd recommended contacting Lenovo and have the laptop sent back for a WiFi card replacement. -
Hey
I just started reading up on the y470 Ideapad and I'm interested in purchasing one. I just spoke with the customer care rep from Lenovo and he said that the mSATA disk is not compatible but I see everyone here has a mSATA disk installed. By saying that, did the rep mean that lenovo does not ship it with mSATA disk (and we have to add it on aftermarket) or does it mean the new laptops that are coming out do not have that slot? If it is an aftermarket addon does it void the laptop's warranty?
Secondly I just want to clarify that there are no serious problems in the laptop. If the mSATA disk works out, I'm planning to buy this laptop tomorrow. (fingers crossed!)
btw the laptop config is IdeaPad Y470 Laptop - 085525U .. i7-2630QM Processor, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB 7200 rpm HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB -
Lenovo reps aren't the brightest hub. I remember asking a rep the first day the Y570 was released in Canada about USB 3.0 as it wasn't in the specs on Lenovo Canada's website and the rep told me it's was only USB 2.0 slots.
Anyhow, all users who've installed a mSATA SSD on the Y470/Y570 in this thread have had success, I don't think yours would be any different if you decide to buy.
It's been confirmed by one user that the mSATA slot on the Y470/Y570 supports SATA-600 speeds with a Runcore T50 64GB which does not work with the mSATA slot on the Dell Precision M4600.
IMO, just the inclusion of the mSATA slot on the Y470/Y570 at this price point is worth an investment on the laptop. When Ivy Bridge is out I'm guessing a lot of manufactures are going to be including mSATA slots on their laptops but ATM it's a very rich feature to have.
As said before, mSATA is the future for laptop SSD drives and having a mSATA slot that works with SATA-600 speeds like the Y470/Y570 just means you're future set for any upcoming mSATA SSD's that's has not yet been released.
Edit: Adding a mSATA SSD, upgrading your ram and WiFi card does not void the warranty. You're allowed to open to bottom chassis for any upgrades and even cleaning dust off the fan if you need to do so. -
As far as laptop issues, just skim through some older posts. My advise would be to update all the drivers from the Manufacture website i.e. realtek drivers from realtek website. NOT from the Lenovo site (they dont have all the current drivers). -
Thank you so much Nemix77 and toukhang for the clarifications. I think I'm going in. Ordering my laptop tomorrow and like toukhang said, will update the drivers from the manufacturer's websites. Hopefully in a week I'll be posting from my lenovo y470
btw can you plesae recommend a 64gb mSATA for around ~120$ I saw one from myDigitalSATA thats seems to be going out at 98$
PS: Yes this is the place to go to for tech supportSeconded
-
The drivers are installed and still does not operate in the 3.0 ports...
Note I did get it to work ONCE but after a reboot never again..
the drive is running when plugged into a 3.0 as I can feel the vibrations from the drive spinning and I have tried scanning for new hardware, nothing. Works perfectly fine in 2.0 ports and even tells me it can run faster in a different port.
Note USB 2.0 devices work in the 3.0 port so I know its not a faulty port.
Furthermore I booted into the bios and see no option to enable or disable usb 3.0
any help would be great -
@ peterpan11
I believe Luis_GT has the MyDigital Bullet Proof 64GB mSATA on his Y470. As far I can tell, it's a very good SSD for the price.
Here's the NBR thread and review of the SSD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...gitalssd-bullet-proof-128gb-msata-review.html
There's a mention that MyDigital will soon be replacing their mSATA SSD line with 24nm chips (currently 32nm) which will result in a price drop but will have slower performance.
So if you do plan on getting a MyDigital Bullet Proof 64GB mSATA for your Y470 now would be the best time to get one, since after they're sold out of the 32nm versions they won't be bringing it back.
@ Raysoc
Try checking WD's website for any firmware updates for the drive, also check the USB cable to see if there any abnormalities.
Download all updates for Windows and reinstall the default USB 3.0 driver from Lenovo found here: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/o...ist.aspx?CategoryID=867235&OS=Windows 7 64bit
If all else fails, contact Lenovo and let them know about the problem. -
All that Nemix said is true... Now's the time to buy a Mydigital SSD since they are moving to 24nm chips... The 64GB's version price per GB is one of the best for mSATA drives that I've found... and it has worked perfectly for the last 3 months on my Y470.
Note that the Performance of the 64GB is about half of the 128GB model... It's the same with the Intel 310... the 80GB doubles the performance of the 40GB model.
Here's Bench run I made.

I have y470 and 64gb my digital ssd. it was my first ssd drive ever, so i dont have experience in a field, however i like this product. with fresh windows install, boot times were 19-22 sec according to lenovo boot loader. now its around 30-33 sec, i think uniblue driver scanner mess it up. if you decide to buy it, first thing make sure update to newest firmware, it improves write teams. here is my crystaldisk screen.

New Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver v10.6.0.1022 WHQL: intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci
Intel is coming fast with a lot of RST driver updates as of late, could it be true that the latest Intel 520 Cherryville stated soon to be released on November 4, 2011 is indeed based on a SandForce controller and Intel is getting their RST driver updated fast plus maybe in-house custom SF firmware to avoid any issues with Intel chipset laptops and motherboards?
Whatever the case, these are the latest RST drivers and still beneficial to update to regardless of SSD controller or spinning hard drive installed in your current laptop.
Enjoy! -

I read all the thread, and now i saw that are version of Y570 without mSATA connector. T
he problem is i was called to lenovo support from my country and they told me that in our country the Y570 is renamed as Y570A this mean can be another revision of the same Y570 ?!!
And when i asked for the presence of mSATA they told me in our country is not available with SSD hard drive so the connector is not present ?!
Another question is if i can add a new wifi card as Intel 6300, i read about this problem can be done with bios moding or other version of bios?
For me the reason to buy this model is only the mSATA feature, because on the market are same options for less money, because i'm not interested in playing games. -
Yes this could be very possible, looking at driver downloads for the Y471A: Lenovo Ideapad Support & downloads - Drivers & Downloads
Many drivers from the Y470/Y570 are missing like SRS surround, energy management, onekey theater, etc...
This leads me to believe the Y471A and possibly the Y570A has less features than those found on the original Y470 and Y570.
The Intel Centrino 6300 is fully compatible with the Y470 and Y570 as of BIOS 2.06.
Edit: With some soldering skills, one could add a second mini pcie slot to the Y570 where the TV tuner is suppose to be (all solder joints are intact). The cost is only about $10 for the DIY slot, some flux and 30 minutes of work.
The only downside to this is that specific slot cannot be disabled or turned off via keyboard. However, you could add any other mini pcie component by doing so, including: WWAN card, GPS card or even another SSD (mini pcie-SATA). -
The problem is not soldering the PCI conector, and i realy have skills and technology available for SMD rework, even IR station for BGA packages. The problem is if I want to do that, because this sure will void my warranty, and after reading all the forum problems mentioned by users i really don't want that. I will go to a show room to see if the laptop is exposed and i will ask if they want to open the back cover to see with my eyes the problem.
-
Dude I was suggesting this for Y570 owner's up for a mod, you specifically said the model available in your country is the Y570A which I'm unable to comment on as far as features on the motherboard goes even on the Y470 I'm not sure the TV tuner slot exists...
Another option would be to look for availability of the V470C or V570C in your country. I almost certain both these models have a mSATA slot, non-discrete graphics (HD 3000) and less expensive than the Y series.
However, there will be some design and multimedia differences between the V and Y series. -
USB Cable works fine in the 2.0 ports and looks fine, it is the one that came with the device and also has the blue identifer in the plug. It worked once so it is definately a USB 3.0 cable too.
I downloaded all updates from Windows and uninstalled all the USB drivers even removing the Rensas drivers and installing the old ones again.
Still no luck.
I am going to try formatting the WD drive tonight and see if that might help, or try upgrading the USB3.0 drivers again. It wouldnt be a conflict between usb2.0 and 3.0 drivers on those ports would it?
Also how do I see if USB 3.0 is enabled in the bios? I don't see the option..
Furthermore when I uninstall my USB drivers it seems to also uninstall all my bluetooth drivers. -
There isn't a BIOS option to enable or disable the USB 3.0, the card is basically this but for laptops: LaCie - LaCie USB 3.0 PCI Express Card (1x)
There's still a chance that you got a faulty USB 3.0 card thus you should start thinking about contacting Lenovo for repairs.
-
got my replacement (y470 i7) noticed some flex in the keyboard and the sound does not sound as crisp as my previous machine (y470 i5) . Do you guys think it could be a software issue>?
-
I'm dying, keyboard flex is a hardware problem but not really a reason for RMA, I think I've got some keyboard flex on some very minor areas on my Y570 too. As for the sound sounding a bit more crisp, that's subjective since the internal speakers and sound chip should be identical to the i5 model you returned. I do believe you're nitpicking here unless I missed something and the sound is cracking, terrible or imbalance.
-
Is this the drive, the drivers, or the laptop and how do I do a definitive test? No other device I own is usb 3.0, and no other machine I have access to has a USB 3.0 port. Its driving me nuts as I have only had the machine <2 weeks and I did get it to work the first time I updated the drivers, just never again after
laptop + USB3.0 device are from costco so I may return the WD device and see if that was the issue first, then if not contact Lenovo. What a PITA. -
Sounds like the USB 3.0 ports are on your laptop is not giving enough juice to power up the drive. I've have this happen to me before on my desktop when using my front panel USB 2.0 ports to connect to an external USB 2.0/3.0 drive. Contact WD and see if they can send a USB 3.0 Y cable for your drive or return the drive to Costco for replacement, furthermore to avoid USB 3.0 problems with future devices it's best you contact Lenovo to have the USB 3.0 module replaced if after finding other USB 3.0 devices still do not work (replacement WD drive). I just hope you haven't been using a USB hub on those USB 3.0 ports all this time.
-
I tried it again tonight and noticed that if I raise the piece of the cable inserted into the laptop I can get it to recognize no problem 8/10 times. I do this by leveraging the actual WD drive right under the cord. Though attempting again this morning I got a message that it would run faster in a usb3.0 drive.. so something is wrong. Ill switch the WD drive this weekend at costco and if that doesn't solve it then I guess ill have to return the laptop to costco and order another one -
Seems like your WD USB 3.0 cable is like the one on my Hitachi 3.0 external, it's thick and stiff. All you need to do is work out the cable, do small bends on every inch of the cable but do not bend it too far (no less than 90 degree angle) repeat the small bending all over the cable in the opposite direction. If still have problems connecting the drive to a USB 3.0 port afterwards call or WD for a new cable or have the drive replaced at Costco this reason.

Hi Everyone,
For those of you who are having random BSOD issues with a Bug Check String of 'CRITICAL OBJECT TERMINATION' and Bug Check Code '0x000000F4', you might be able to solve the issue by uninstalling the 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver'. Updating to the latest version didn't help.
I initially had this problem when I execute the programs such as EASEUS Partition Master. Opening the program freezed my computer and eventually reboots itself after the BSOD.
Hope this helps. -

ps. longs periods of gaming does reduce performance over time since it's not a desktop and might require extra cooling -
Did anyone buy Battlefield 3 for PC and try it on the Lenovo Y570? If so, how many FPS in singleplayer and multiplayer?
-
Getting around 30 fps (on medium/high). Though there s not a large difference between low, medium and high/ultra.
-
PS: I actually read all 189 pages of this entire thread over the span of a few days. As someone had recently suggested, it would be great to see a FAQ for newbies on here, as I saw many of the same questions repeated. I can do it, but I don't want to take credit for it. So many users on here have been great with helping out (including you), it's only fitting one of you guys did it if you had the time. -
I was wondering if anyone knows if the msata slot on the y470 supports sata 3 (6gb/s). I would also like to know if my 2.5" slot have sata 3 support or not. I've read through several pages of this thread and I've come across a post here or somewhere else where a lenovo engineer says that the laptop doesn't "officially" support sata 3 in the msata slot. I am hoping someone here knows off the top of their head because my google searches aren't coming up with anything definitive. thanks!

Sigh, I think I may have gotten a defective display. There seems to be a weird bright spot on the right side of my display. It kind of looks like the effect you get when you put a bit of pressure on an LCD screen, but brighter instead of the usual gradient effect. It makes a completely white screen look even brighter somehow. Then on closer inspection, I found what looked like a bunch of dead pixels near it, although it's not as noticeable as the bright spot. It's visible in all colors except dark.
Hard to tell with a picture, but here. Not sure if this could be a cause, but I've found that the bezel's rubber grommets (if that's the right word), aren't enough to protect the thin screen from weight pressure and I've had marks on my screen caused by the keyboard/tray. But those wiped away just like fingerprints. Could this pressure have caused this permanent "bruise" on my screen?
Do you think I should contact Lenovo and use my warranty?
Edit : Are these the on-site service providers for Lenovo warranty service?
There's a few near me and I guess I could go check it out. -
Do any of you guys connect your Y470 to an external monitor via VGA? Any issues? Thx.
-
I own y570 and it's performance in videogames drops a lot when not charging.
In cinebench test it give 29-30 fps when charging and 19-20 when not.
How do I fix it?
Also wanted to ask: Is lenovo energy management any useful?
I see it's functions can be used by windows energy management settings, so why should it be used? -
-
When my y570 is charging, I get pretty good fps in games, but when it's not I get .
What's wrong with it?
Here are nvidia inspector info and graphs:
The rightest column is what I get when charging. The second from right is working from battery.
The graphs are very similar but fps differs a lot. Why? How do I fix it? I use cinebench as a fast performance test.
With nvidia driver 285.62 the problem still exists. -
I don't know...i always play games on a charger...doesn't gaming on the battery deplete its life faster?? i currently use the 275.50 driver since i had fps dropped with the 280.26 or something drivers..i remember gaming on battery once and twice..(crysis 2 and fifa 11) and it still ran fine (no fps dropped)...make sure your power management is on high performance and fan management is on "cool"...i know for sure that wen the laptop gets hot (90C, first and only time it ever happened), the cpu tends to throttle sometimes...i noticed it with the battlefield 3 beta (dropped from 40 to 20 fps after two hours) but with the official game, it hasn't happened since..try an older driver and see if it is gone...what games do you play without the charger??
I think i found the solution, try this
first go here:
after that click settings and go here:
and change settings from there and see if that helps -
It only affects intel HD and CPU.
-
-
i tried battlefield and fps dropped by only 4 fps (nothing substantial)..try older drivers and see that helps.
with battery
and i closed the game and restarted with the charger...here:
i have a y470 but fps drop shouldn't be that bad as yours..something else is going...try the drivers that came with the laptop originally.. -
check if your maximum processor state is set to something above 0%.
(Power Options > change plan settings >Change advanced power settings > Processor Power management > Maximjm processor state)
For my computer, whenever im on highest performance and then go onto battery (while on best battery health), the max processor state is automatcially set to 0% (i think, im guessing going onto battery is the cause)
anyone know a fix? -
