Hello all. I bought my Y470 two months ago, and I've been having a bluescreen problem. After the computer is sleeping for awhile and i wake it, it blue screens (after a few seconds), and says nlvddmkm.sys is the reason for the crash. Additionally, most of the time the computer does not recognize the graphics card even after i try using the optimus switch. In order for it to recognize the graphics card, I have to reboot the computer, at which point it will recognize the graphics card and play games smoothly without any problems. Also, sometimes when the computer boots, windows switches to the classic theme and gives an error about the system not recognizing something.
I have tried to use lenovo onekey recovery, but the problem persists. I've also tried to install the latest nvidia graphics drivers and it hasn't helped either. At this point I suspect there is some kind of hardware issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong? -
it's a software issue, it has to do with the pesky nvidia driver (it has to do with the computer thinking it's outdated or something) and i used to have the same issue...if you look up that driver on google, you will see that you are not the only one..several other laptops and desktops have that issue...back when I had the issue (it blue screened on random occasions), whenever i saw that blue screen, i quickly disconnected and removed the battery because if you let the computer fully reboot after the blue screen, the switch won''t work and you are forced to shut down and start it up again to temporary fix it...i almost returned the laptop because of this issue but i eventually fixed thanks to some suggestions in the forum...The answer is to do a fresh install of windows and install drivers from the nvidia website (one key recovery won't help you there, i used it so many times but the issue kept coming back)..and make before you do a fresh install (make sure to backup the "LENOVO (D) " partition to an external storage. You are going to the need the drivers from that partition after you do a fresh install...here is a thread I started because of the issue...hope this helps

p.s. sorry for the long post

Anybody got experience with the SRS Premium Sonud. I installed on my Y570, and it is not starting. It's just doing nothing. Any suggestions?
-
Spike temp, or continuous temp?
As if I were to Oc it and get 79 degrees continuously it would be okay if it spiked for a few seconds to 80? Or 75-78 with spikes never reaching 80?
I want to be very careful, but I've also heard interesting things about that the 555M can sustain... -
I saw your other post at the Lenovo forum. On Win 7 machines, the SRS Premium Sound runs underneath the RealTek HD Audio Manager. Unfortunately, you indicated that you did not have a preloaded software version, when you bought your system. You only bought a free DOS version. Did you load any version of Windows now?

Hey guys, Reading from the start of this thread, there seems to have been an i5 2nd gen version of the y470.
However now I am looking on Lenovo.com and they only have the i3 and i7 versions.
I don't mind an i7, though I feel and i5 is really plenty for me...photoshop work, watching video, gaming, etc.
Currently the i7 version, 8 gigs of ram, 550m with the 750 gb, 5400rpm HDD and DVD combo (no blue-ray) is 799.
That's not a bad price, especially since the Asus u46sv I've been comparing it to is around 860.
However I would love to find the i5 version, if anyone knows a site selling them. -
that is the version i have and it has blu-ray included...why did lenovo remove it from their site and keep the i3 version??..smh but you might as well get the i7 version since it's more future proof imo..
p.s. I just did some google searches and it is completely gone (online)
-
Lenovo removes them from the site for weekly deals... when I bought my i5 the only options where the i5 and i7 in blu-ray and 750GB HDD version only...
-
Now i have Win7 installed on the machine, it is working like charm. After the post i noticed the tab with SRS in my Realtek control panel. It is there, i though it will be more detailed with advanced options. But no. Anyway i was just curious.
-
Unfortunately a fresh install is not always the answer to this problem. I already had a fresh install when my blue screens started and have since reformatted and installed again. I am turning the laptop in today as I have tried everything I can think of and it still dies the moment the gfx card is turned on for any program that uses it.

To SSD people:
Hello, I wish to hear from those of you who have swapped your hard drive with an SSD. In other word, there is no HARD DRIVE next to the headphone-port.
If you had static noise before you swapped, do you guys still get the static noise from the headphone-port?
The reason why I'm asking this is:
Quote from here (Bottom post on second page)
Thanks for reading/answering, and i have a y570 btw.

Just tried Skyrim on my Y570
1366X768 no AA 4xAF high quality
FPS is usually between 30-40 (outdoor/combat), occasionally drops to 26~28.
I'm running with 268.44, performance might improve with the upcoming Nvidia driver
-
Thanks for the Info, and to Luis GT.
I guess they don't want to put the i5 on sale for some reason...
the i7 is future proof but I was thinking that the i5 would use less power, adn with Turboboost I don't think the i5 would be the bottleneck, more like the 550m. -
Thanks willdunz, thats very helpful. what processor and ram are you using?
-
i5-2410 6G RAM

thanks, one more question- how hot does your computer get? and is it on a flat table when you play? or on your lap? or something else. Thanks again-
-
No problem. I was playing in my bedroom(about 20C). the laptop was sitting on a cheap plastic cooler. The cooler doesn't really cool it, just keeps it elevated. After 3 hours of gameplay, the CPU and GPU never went above 70C. Fan was under efficient thermal dissipation mode, I could definitely hear the noise of the fan. Left side of the laptop was warm but far from hot. Overall, Y570/Y470 has a great cooling system. -
After i bought the cooler master x2 cooling pad and after few tests (3dmark vantage, 3dmark 11) i am stable on gpu clock 840, mem 875, shader 1840
3dmark vantage - 6100
3dmark 11 - 1400
the temps in load is 66 degrees, without the pad i reached 90 degrees, i used msi afterburner for oc the video card -
My windows index is 5.9 , here are the details ----
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz : 7.4
Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB : 7.6
Graphics Desktop performance for Windows Areo : 5.9
Gaming graphics 1696 MB Total available graphics memory 6.7
Primary hard disk (814GB Total) : 6.9
I am curious to know why is the Desktop performance for Windows Areo so low,
Do you all have similar window index or is it different for different people who have the top model (Y570).
Note : I have the top model of Y570 series, the one with the 64GB SSD.
Early replies would b e highly appreciated ..... -
Thanks for the reply. I've had some problems reformatting, when I try to boot from a windows copy on my external HD, the windows installer says no drivers were detected. So, I opted to just re-install windows(without booting from an external media), which unfortunately did not fix the problem. Did you reformat to fix your problem, or just install a fresh windows copy?
-
mine is
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz : 7.5
Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB : 7.6
Graphics Desktop performance for Windows Areo : 6.3
Gaming graphics 1696 MB Total available graphics memory 6.7
Primary hard disk (814GB Total) : 5.9
you need to download the latest Intel HD Graphics driver
you can download from here
did you install the windows on the ssd, because your primary hard drive index is higher than mine(i also have the 64GB SSD) -
Hey thanks a lot,
My new windows index score is 6.7 with the following details
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz : 7.4
Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB : 7.6
Graphics Desktop performance for Windows Areo : 6.7
Gaming graphics 1696 MB Total available graphics memory 6.7
Primary hard disk (814GB Total) : 6.9
my primary hard disk's index was 6.9 from the very beginning itself,ie when I had got my laptop from Lenovo.
It will be really nice if others can also post their windows index scores, so that we can see how much of a variation is there btw our Laptops .... -
willdunz i am having problem with skyrim i can`t change the graphics adapter(it has only the intel card), with the intel i get 10-12FPS but it`s not playable, never mind i figure that out i needed to run with graphic processor->nv card
thanks anyway -
skyrim runs like ish on my Y470 (9 fps +???) ...i even have the nvidia gefore selected and i am still getting same fps as my intel hd...this is the only game to run like this on my laptop..
edit....got it working now ..thanks for any future responses -
Though I average around 21fps with Skrim, my frame rate drops dramatically when I use magic or encounter enemies. Anyone else having this problem? I have the latest intel and nvidia drivers, plus my GT555m is overclocked.
-
^ i did not played much on skyrim yet but i finished the intro with the dragon and all the frame rate was 30-35FPS sometimes dropped to 25-20FPS
i am running this on high with AF off and AA x4 with updated drivers and overclock the gpu.
it is also depend on which settings do you play? what your detail settings (ultra, high, meduim, low)? AA and AF -
Thanks for the reply!
I figured out why there were sudden lack spikes...I had the recommended settings of Med with AA and AF turned on. Once i turned AF off it ran much smoother. So now I play on HIGH with AA on, AF off. -
im still on the dragon level( this is my first rpg on a pc )..pretty nice game so far...the fps are nice with an overclock with high settings
-
Yeah, it looks really good. If you like the gameplay, you would want to try the witcher 1 and 2, and Dragon age origins. Both run smooth on this laptop, and are really awesome rpgs.
-
i just did a fresh install of windows ultimate..
make sure to backup the files in the LENOVO(D) Partition.

anyone experiencing poorer battery life after a few months? my y570 is mostly plugged in and when not, its set to hibernate at either 65% or 14% (depending on use).
now my battery life is about half -
i have problem to run skyrim with the nv card, each time i need to change it to nv card from the properties of the exe file, i even change it on nvidia control panel but each time when i tried to play skyrim the intel graphics card work and not the nv card
in other games i did not have this issue like crysis 2, gothic 4, alice madness return -
the reason is because you also have to add the "skyrim launcher" and the "skyrim exe " both to nvidia control panel and make sure it's on "High-performance NVIDIA processor" for it to work...and i suggest to always launch the game from the "skyrim launcher" instead of the exe.
go to the "Nvidia Control Panel" and click "manage 3d settings" > click "add" and find the "skyrim exe" file in your program files (x86)> and choose "High-performance NVIDIA processor" instead of global settings..and click "apply" and do the same for the "skyrimlauncher " in the program files (x86) as well
p.s. I have it running smoothly on mine and the game is awesome -
same hear..mine used to last 4 and half hours if i had powersaving and 30 percent battery with a few word documents running....now it lasts a bit over two hours...i only surf sometimes on battery but nothing to extensive on the battery..i have owned this laptop since august...still love this laptop though

my y470 freezes for no reason when im typing or moving the mouse. basically, when im typing the words dont appear as I type, then all of them appear a second later.
Also, my trackpad does the same: sometimes I move the mouse, but it stays frozen. Other times my trackpad dies, and doesnt come back until I restart. However, if I use a usb mouse the mouse problem never happens (keyboard problem still happens).
Help please! -
I am not able to plug in my ear-phone into my Y570 earphone socket.
My earphone just doesn't seem to go into the socket, it used to go into the socket earlier, but now it doesn't go into the socket anymore...
Has any1 faced this problem before.
Pls Help asap,
I am able to plugin my Sony earphone's into my friends laptop but I am not able to plug it in my Y570. The material used by Y570 is really of very cheap quality it seems. -
thank you kobby2k6, i want to ask anyone who played skyrim on y570 what are the temps of the cpu and gpu mine are 80C of the cpu and 75C of the gpu but with coolermaster x2 cooling pad is this normal or to high?
-
i have a y470 and with all medium settings, i played for 4 hours last night and my highest temp was 73 and I don't own a cooler...i average 35 + with medium settings, no overclocking (it seems to heat up my laptop a bit faster)..it seems to drop to 26 with all high settings so i am sticking with medium settings..
I think you should change the settings in the launcher a bit for skyrim..the game doesn't look bad with medium settings..like turning of "anisotrophic filtering"...idk, YMMV.
p.s. If you are playing on all high settings, that should be know (i think) -
I'm going to replace stock thermal compound with some arctic silver 5, and maybe some copper shims to hopefully drop temperatures around 10 degrees. Perhaps with lower temps I can overclock the GT550m in my Y470 to turn it into Y570's crippled GT555m speeds. Any advice? ty
-
i tried to play skyrim without the cooling pad and it was to risky the temp of the gpu was 90C to high for me(as i said before i did OC it) and the temp of the cpu was also 90C defiantly to high also i noticed that the fan is too noisy
in full load, i place again the cooling pad and temps got lower to 70C GPU and 80C for the CPU, the settings are high with AF off and AA x4, the fps was in general about 30FPS sometimes 40FPS in combat the FPS sometimes dropped to 20-25FPS, without the cooling pad the game sometimes froze but i think it was because of the high temps -
I tried to play NFS the RUN............. but to my surprise the game was running very slow on my Y570.
Did any1 of u faced similar problems with NFS The Run,
When I checked the the NFS website ( Need for Speed The Run Minimum PC Requirements) I was shocked to see that they recommend Nvidia GTX 560 ......... our graphics card is already obsolete.
-
Hey, my Y470 temps seem to be getting high when I game my CPU temp gets up to 75 C to 80C. Is this too hot?
Also how can I find my GPU temp? -
^Try HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to see the temps of your video card.
i think your temps are OK i getting them also when i am playing games. -
Hello, all - I am contemplating ordering a y470, with the only reservation being the repeated criticisms of the screen. As a rough comparison, I would be switching over from a 2008 dell inspiron 1318 (13.3 inch screen, 1200x800). Do any of you have any thoughts as to what I could expect in terms of relative screen quality from the y470? Basically, I'm not too concerned about having the best screen in the world, but it would be a bit of a let down if the y470 didn't look as good as my old dell.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. -
That's not bad. Y470 goes up to 90 something when playing Battlefield 3.

Hey, I just got my new Y470
Everything is working fine.
I would like to update my drivers
Which drivers do I need from the Lenovo website and which do I need from the manufacturer's site.
Please post any recommendations, tips, issues, or things I should beware.
I would appreciate your help.
EDIT: Is there any significant improvement in performance? -
I am having the same problem on my Y470 in both iTunes and MediaMonkey. I imagine this must be somewhat unique to these computer models or there would be more information about it and there's nothing out there! I'll post here again if I find a solution and please do the same. Thanks!!
-
i wish i could help but i use itunes a lot on my y470 i5 (since last august) and never came across this issue..are these songs purchased from itunes or something?
