i experienced this problem as well. what i did then was do a hard disk scan and...it freezed. apparently this issue was a prelude to a hard disk failure. my advice is to back up all your data first, then see how it goes, though i predict it will fail sooner than later. use the warranty to get a replacement hard disk...

on a sidenote, skyrim does run better on medium settings :D

I don't understand this Nvidia Optimus driver. It just doesn't seem to activate. I would assume the 550M is better than the Intel integrated graphics card. Even if I force the exe. file to run with Nvidia, the result is the same, or worse. I know this has been a recurring problem but has there been a fix yet?

    Thanks

I formatted both HDD and SSD and did a fresh-install on SSD. How do I combine them into one to use rapiddrive?

Go into stores and check out other 14" 1366x768 laptops. The Y470 shouldn't be any worse.

Not just a new Bios, there are a lot of new drivers available. One question, should I update the Bios first, and then all of the drivers? Or the drivers, then the Bios?

OK, another question. Is it a good practice to backup the system before updating the Bios, and if the Bios fails would that backup restore my system to the previously installed Bios? This seems to be a noob question, but I can't remember if the actual system Bios is included in the backup.

    Thanks

Hi everyone, I have a question about my temperatures.

I have the i3 variant (2310m) and when playing games like BFBC2 my cpu will approach 81+ degrees and I have had it start to throttle itself. This doesn't seem normal, especially since i'm using a laptop cooler with fans on it.

Is there anyone else with a similar experience, or recommendations of what to do? I'm starting to think lenovo techs didn't put the thermal paste on correctly.

Hey guys, so far I've been reading a lot of forums and reviews about lenovo y470 and I've read a lot problems occurring in lenovo y470 at the same time still is commendable because of the specs. so far I'm torn between choosing dell xps15 or lenovo y470. Can you guys give me your opinion?

I'm really thinking of choosing dell because I am currently a lenovo user for almost 3 years now and after a while, a lot of problems occur and every year I have to reformat it not even just once but more. But specs-wise, lenovo wins :) so...

    To All,
I was happy that the Y470 update page, has a new Intel On-board Graphics Driver, 8.15.10.2462. I downloaded IN2VDO75WW6.exe, and upon installing the new driver, I came across the following screens:

The first installation screen says the driver revision is 15.22.8.64.2462. Ok, the last number is 2462, so that’s good.

The next screen, after the set up process completed, shows the Intel HD Graphics Family version that was ACTUALLY installed was 8.15.10.2342!

After finishing the installation, the Program Compatibility Assistant tells me that the program “might not have installed correctly”

I “Reinstalled using recommended settings” (Whatever that means), and the same loop appears.

So, in the end, download IN2VDO75WW6.exe, DOES NOT CONTAIN, Intel HD Graphics Driver 8.15.10.2462.

Now, if I’m doing something wrong in the installation process, please let me know what error I have been making. Unfortunately, I think the error was made by the Lenovo developer, and the team that posted the update mis-information on the Y470 page.

Has anyone else downloaded the new Intel HD Graphics Driver from the Y470 update page, and did you get the correct 8.15.10.2462 driver installed?

    Thank you,

    DragonRider

You should just be able to download the intel driver from the intel website itself, just be sure to check that it's the correct operating system.

This should be it for you, if you're using Win7 64bit:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...rs&ProductProduct=Intel®+HD+Graphics&lang=eng

Edit: The driver on the intel website is actually newer than the one you were downloading, it would seem. (version 8.15.10.2559 vs 8.15.10.2462)

    siscorskiy,
Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, drivers that are not "customized" by Lenovo, will break their added on software. See this page, on the current thread regrading the 2509 driver:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...0-official-owners-thread-182.html#post7979751

I tried 2509, and I wish I could update the driver to 2559 from the Intel site. That's why I'm so upset that Lenovo's driver update page is SO out of date. Now, when they put updates out on that page, and they don't work, I really get PO'ed.

I searched the Intel driver site, and I didn't find that 2462 driver. That's because it's a "special" driver that Lenovo has "messed" with. It's only available on Lenovo's web site.

I don't even trust the Bios update, on that site. It's probably gonna break my stable machine.

I see. I just assumed that Lenovo was really lazy with updating their driver page, so I always just bypassed it completely.

    Hello all,

I pulled the trigger and ordered a loaded Y570 on Saturday night. My expected ship date (to Canada) is January 18, 2012!

I have read this thread regarding shipping delays and have experienced Lenovo's slow shipping with my T61p back in 2008, but this seems a little ridiculous, especially since the order page was saying it would ship within 17 business days.

Lenovo customer support said that they expect it is a glitch and the date will decrease in a couple of days but is this the case anyone else has experienced lately? I am willing to wait for this great machine, but two months is a little excessive.

Any insight would be great. Thanks all for your help. This thread is a great resource!

I ordered a y570 back in august, and it didn't ship for nearly 3 weeks. January 18 is pretty ridiculous, I think that will drop to something more reasonable.

Okay, fingers crossed it will work out in my favour. I will let you guys know if there is an update...

    Hi Guys,
in a few Days i'm a Y570-Owner (ssd + hdd model). The thread here was very helpful and i decided, to buy the laptop.
Only one question: i'm not really a friend of the rapiddrive-technology. I prefer a clean cut from ssd and hdd. Has anyone this configuration? It is possible or is this a bad idea?

thx in advance for your answer.

    toidi (Germany)

P.S.: sry for my english, i hope you can understand, what i mean :)

    thx in advance

    Toidi,

We talked about it a little bit on this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/596474-ssd-rapiddrive-ideapad-y470-3.html

It somewhat applies to the Y570 too. I just received my Y570 yesterday and found/assume that RapidDrive is already active. I've decided to just go with it and see how fast it is rather than go through the trouble of reinstalling windows.

What no one has been able to answer so far is whether or not RapidDrive is better than "manually" managing a separate SSD and 5400 SATA drive, or whether the performance gains are significantly better or worse.

    Willdunz,
I downloaded the new Bios, IQY0206AX64.EXE, but did not attempt to install it yet.

I also downloaded, and successfully installed, the following new drivers:

    Broadcom Ethernet Driver 14.8.0.5
Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link Driver 14.1.1.3
    Broadcom Bluetooth Driver 6.4.0.2300
JMicron JMB38X Flash Media Controller 1.0.55.0
    Synaptics Pointing Device Driver 15.3.31.1

I’m still testing, but as yet I haven’t had any problems with the new drivers.

The only driver that I had a problem with is the update to the Intel Onboard Graphics Driver. Lenovo’s update page has the driver version as 8.15.10.2462, with the date of 2011-11-24. As I’ve said, the downloaded file only installs 8.15.10.2342.

I got tired of waiting for Lenovo to fix this problem, so I went to the Intel site, and downloaded/installed the latest 8.15.10.2559 graphics driver. This 2559 driver still breaks the Fn + ↑Up/Down↓ on screen display for the brightness level, but that’s the only thing I’ve noticed that it breaks. All of the other “Touch Buttons” on screen displays work. (Mute/Volume/OneKey Theater/Thermal Management) I can live with that. Anyways, if I want to adjust the brightness, I can still use the Fn +↑Up/Down↓, or adjust it via the control panel.

I think I’m going to try installing the new Bios soon. I’ll post my results after I’ve tested it out.

Hey folks, after owning the y570 since August the Thermal Settings on my computer do not appear to be working correctly. The only setting that seems to get the fan spinning is "Dedust".

Usually I would leave it on Efficient Thermal Dissipation while gaming and standard otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have run the Dedust setting twice now and still the fan is not acting normally.

Bought the Y570 a little over a month ago and so far it's been really annoying. Games run with significant lag issues although not at unplayable levels, but what's even worse is that the same games seem to crash as well. A lot. Rage has crashed once, so has Sims 3, Deus Ex HR and Dragon Age Origins. Skyrim has crashed so many times I've lost count.

    Help!!!

nCode - I recently got the Cooler Master X2 from Amazon and while it works great in cooling my lap, I'm not convinced it's doing anything to help my Y570 stay cool(er) - after lengthy gaming sessions the fan is loud and the air blowing out the side could melt glass. If I read your post right, you have the same one. Are you happy with it? Would you recommend something getting a different cooler?

I'm on the fence. I've got a Y570 with 4 GB of RAM. I'm going to jump to 8 GB but am unsure if I should get PC3 8500, 10600 or 10666. Any suggestions? I bought the 8 GB of G. Skill a few months back but one stick was bad so I RMA'd and haven't reordered yet. Specs for my Y570 are in my sig.

I am using the coolermaster x2 model a few weeks now,Except this cons i would recommend this model:
    1) Unfortunately you can not change the location of the fan, unlike with the u2 model. also the Y570 vent is on the left side so the cooling might not be that efficient.
    2) I also noticed that there is no difference in temps term between low and high
    speed of the fan.
    3) As you mentioned before under full load the fan become noisy, and there is no difference in temps while the fan under higher or lower RPM.
    4) The usb cabel of the cooling pad is too short to connect it to left side of the Y570, so you need to use one of the usb 3.0 port, also If you right-handed like me you will need too use the second usb3.0 port for a mice.
about the temps under heavy load(3dmark vantage/Skyrim/Crysis 2) the temps for gpu is 65-67C and the cpu is about 80-82. I would try the u2 model over the x2 model for better cable management and fan placement.

Has anyone here ever tried replacing the thermal paste on their y570 cpu? I've heard that lenovo techs sometimes don't apply it properly, and I was considering doing it myself in an effort to reduce temperatures.

Done on mine with CPU upgrade, the process is fairly easy but however it does void your warranty. The end result is very good especially if you use good paste like AC MX-3 or IC Diamond.

    i have all medium settings,
    2x MSAA, vsync off,
motion blur off and windowed mode (because everything i change the volume, the game exits out of fullscreen).

I am also overclocked with msi afterburner, stock clock is (740 core clock and 900 memory clock) and I am currently clocked at (900 core clock / 1010 memory clock )

i was averaging 30 + and sometimes 40's in the early parts of the game, i am currently on the Comrades mission and lowest dip was to 26fps and high as 29 fps...hope this helps.

overclocking probably added 5-8 fps (assumption)

p.s. according to msi, after 25 mins..my gpu temperature max is 96 Celcius and cpu usage is at 70+...i need thermal paste in the future..and thermal managament is on "Efficient thermal dissaption" (I know you already know but this is for any new users)..i am currently on the mission after the comrade mission...it's called thunder run and i am pushing 35 to 40+, it's a tank mission)

Yeah that's definitely too high. What are your ambient temps? For me, my GPU isn't a problem.. even in BFBC2 my GPU only goes to around 78C (this is overclocked temps too at 800 core and 1600 memory), however my CPU gets much hotter and will throttle itself.

That's strange... I thought it was determined that AES-NI is NOT enabled with 2.08. That said, is anyone willing to take plunge and install this BIOS and check to see if it is indeed enabled?

Is this feature (AES-NI) related to country specific ? I am in US and see it in AIDA 64 and Intel Processor Identification Utility that it is present. When i try CPU-Z my sys crashes or freezes (win8). I had 2.08 factory installed on mine.. I can paste my screenshots if you want.

Hi guys, I haven't been around for a while, as I've been enjoying my y570, but I'm to the point where I have to bring up the issue it seems almost everyone else is experiencing. Unusually high temps when gaming, and fan issues.

I'm getting 97 + during any type of intensive gaming, and leading to the computer crashing multiple times from heat. This actually only start about 2 months after I got my machine. I've cleaned out my fan, but it seems as though it's not getting as much power as it should, or it is not spinning properly. Needless to say, this is a major annoyance. Has anyone found a solution?

Too add more details, it often sounds as if the laptops fan is not working, or whining, I can barely feel air coming out of the heat sink, whereas before, there was always a coool breeze. Something has changed over the past few months, temps used to peak at 85, now go well past 90. Not to mention, the graphics card on peaks at about %30 usage due to the heat.

I have the same issues, but i have a cooling pad but still my temps of the cpu is too high 85C, i think we need to change the thermal paste and the temps will drop in the range of 75-80C

I'm going to buy a y570 mostly for gaming(battlefield3/diablo3). where i live the price difference between i3/i5/i7 is pretty big:
    i3: 840$
    i5: 1000$
    i7: 1200$
Is there a big difference in gaming between the cpu's? HDD size doesn't bother me so is it worth spending 160$ more for i5, will i benefit that much for gaming? Is the i3 in everyday use ok?
Thank you if somebody helps me with decision!

So I bit the bullet and installed the aforementioned 2.08 update.... and streamsurfer, you are correct: AES-NI is indeed enabled!!

    Before (BIOS 2.05):

    After (BIOS 2.08):

The lack of AES-NI was one of the things that always bugged me about this laptop (the screen resolution is the other, but that's a whole other story... ;)). Having this feature enabled is already improving the speed of the laptop, since I have the hard disk encrypted with Truecrypt.
