I just received my Y570 yesterday. Very impressed so far. The only game I've played so far was Dawn of War II and it had no problems on Ultra settings. I don't have any FPS for it yet, as I haven't got that deep into the testing.
-
I think someone mentioned a problem with their touchpad and it taking some time to respond. I've discovered that the keyboard seems to override the touchpad on my y570. If I have a key depressed, the mouse won't move, and then takes a second to respond when I let up on the key. I tested a USB mouse and there is no problem. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
-
@mddurden
Hey congrats on your y570! Can you write a full review or just a brief one? and if you try another game, please post the fps and what settings (low, med, high, ultra). Thank you! -
-
A friendly lenovo forum member (Xbrav) solved my touchpad issue for me. Apparently the "PalmCheck" feature in the synaptic driver properties should be set all the way to the left "minimum". That solves the response issues.
-
@madduren. The issue you are stating is actually a feature of the synaptics drivers, so you don't accidently bump your mouse somewhere while you are typing, you can disable it in the settings by decreasing the feature's sensitivity (at least that's how my netbook's works) It's kind of hard to find. I spent a whole day trying to figure it out again after I reinstalled windows 7 on my netbook
lol.
edit:, seems that you got it solved,!
-
-
I set 'middle-click' to the top left corner of the touchpad, because there is no middle click feature with one button-rocker. I can't find a way to disable tap-to-click, however. -
-
I've determined the reason for my low FPS was because the games were being run from steam. the issue was the command prompt not being recognized by the nvidia drivers because he steam games differ slightly from retail games. this caused the nvidia gpu to shut on and off while gaming. i ran Dirt 2 a few days back and was able to max all settings and get a respectable 45 fps.
this laptop has it's bugs but I believe they will all be sorted out in a few weeks after the drivers become better. -
This y470 is starting to make me angry.. battery lasts only 3.5 hours and then takes a whole 2 hours to charge.
What the hell. -
I've been trying to find out as much as I can about the 555M and Optimus, and it seems as though things are still a little hit-and-miss... like you said, because of the drivers. Makes sense I guess, since the 555M is fairly new and it seems to take a while for the Optimus drivers to catch up with newer cards.
At least it's not a Lenovo issue, meaning that we wouldn't be in any different situation with a different brand's laptop with a 555M. Again, like you said, it'll hopefully all be resolved fairly soon.
Thanks again for the update. -
@Fractl
I've had absolutely no problem with my 555m or Optimus. It's kicked in every time that has been appropriate, with no fuss, even on my Steam games. -
Have you been running off the battery? If so, what type of battery life are you getting? -
Have you tried white listing? Magicka = whatever game you're trying to play.
"Instructions: If you're using a newer laptop that you know has an NVidia graphics card, try checking your Optimus settings. Open the "NVIDIA Control Panel" from your start menu. On the lefthand side, under "Select a task...", open the "3D Settings" tree, and select "Manage 3D Settings". Now on the righthand panel, click the "Program Settings" tab. Under "1. Select a program...", click "Add", navigate to your \Steam\steamapps\common\magicka directory and select "Magicka.exe". Under "2. Select the preferred graphics...", choose "High-performance NVIDIA processor", then (VERY IMPORTANT) click "Apply" in the bottom right.
"
Idk if that'll work, but if not, try searching up some m15x/ m11x steam issues with optimus.

If nothing works, I might try contacting lenovo because there might be something wrong with your notebook. (seeing how other people aren't experiencing problems.) -
Not using the battery yet, but I plan on it, if only to see if I have lengthy charge times as others have reported. I'll let you know once I try it.
I tested Dawn of War II on full settings, even in big battles FRAPS was showing only the occasional split second drop under 30 FPS with it mostly getting 40-50 FPS. Also tested the Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition and was getting above 60 FPS, although my test was in the castle, so I've yet to get some outdoor tests on that game. I'll update when I get some good outdoor battles. I recall the first city when it rains bringing my Dell down quite a bit. -

Y470 ordered. Will be getting an 80 GB Intel 310 mSATA drive to stick in. The mSATA compatibility was one of the factors that pushed me to this laptop.
The total cost after tax was $1102 for the i7 config with a 2 year warranty. (This is off the Canadian website) - before tax and the extra warranty it was $924 + free shipping.
Happy that the purchase was made. I have spent the last couple months following the Alienware m11x and 14x models and the Acer 3830TG. For the price and the issues facing the others, this laptop should be a very solid buy. -
Just for clarification, any graphics mods/driver updates you want to do, m14x threads should apply in a similar manner, I think (you can use the same modded inf file if you wish to update your drivers). Saw discussion about it in the thai reviews so it's probably the same process. I'll play around with mine personally when I get it on tuesday.
But here are some threads if you want to try it out.

As the eCoupon of saving $175 expires today, and seeing the shipping date is getting longer, est. ship 21 June, I have ordered today for the i7 version.
IdeaPad Y470-085534U-Dusk Black i7 version, Before tax $924+free shipping. Total 1044.12 after tax, total savings $375 after eCoupon. No extra warranty as member posted above.
As I use AMEX and confirmed from AMEX they will cover for 1 extra year under their insurance, and also collect the AirMails of 1 point per $20.
- ruhtraeel-thanks for your help.
I did email to your contact Daniel on Friday, as I saw your post from RedFlagDeals. But he did not have better deal than the $175 eCoupon. I still put in his Rep ID to do him a favour.
Fatherday's eCoupon may be around the corner, but I need the Y470 for my daughter to go out of town, and seeing the shipping day getting longer, more members are buying. I cannot wait any futher.
Thanks for everyone's information. I can have a good rest for now.

Great news! The Y470 deal I used to buy my wifes is back at Dealzon.com and good until the 15th of June. You can get an i3 for $615, i5 for $679 or i7 for $879. I did not see the Y570 deal on the site.
Enjoy! -
hey guys.
I want to order the Y470 (i5 base version) notebook and have a few questions:
1 - is the base warranty any good?
2 - what's the possibility that I'll get a lemon? the one kind that can not be cured? I'm not talking about software problems - it will be more or less manageable to attempt repairing...
3 - if I get a lemon, will the base warranty be of any help? shall I be able to send it back to lenovo and request a new one (or a refund)
The reason I'm asking all this, is because I'm not from USA, I live in Georgia (the one in Caucasus). We don't have lenovo representatives here, so I'll have to order it from the U.S. site and if the need arises, send it back to lenovo from here (I think the shipping will be killer)
-
just bought a y570 with 2310m and 555m 719+tax. pretty damn good deal. the screen is low res but i wont be using it most of the time.
-
I'm set to receive my y570 tomorrow, does anybody have anything you want me to look at / run as far as benchmarks and features go? I'll do an unboxing & first impressions + a review, once I dig into it a little deeper and use it for a little bit.
-
hey shoeman could you run a cinebench from
MAXON: CINEBENCH 11.5
and a Pcmarkvantage from
Futuremark - Benchmarks - PCMark Vantage - Introduction -
i got just under 10k in 3dmark o6 but that was on stock drivers and it was crazy hot in my house then so im guessing the cpu didn't turbo boost as high as it could have.
im just gonna wait till i find better drivers to re-do benchmarks. -
-
has anyone else tried to DIY the rapid drive? I want to try it idk which ssd to buy.
-
So I ordered a Y570 may 30, and the est ship date is june 30th. I dont think I want to wait this long to get a laptop when the original est date was june 8th (and changed that day to this new one). Do you think they would give me any problems if i cancelled my order at this point?

2.6ghz quadcore turbo is very nice -
Hey guy's for those who've been playing around with their new lenovo y470/y570's: Is the start-up fast even without the ssd version(from the lenovo site it seems like only the most expensive version had the ssd+hdd with the rapid drive technology, or do they get they all rapid drive even without the ssd?)? Also what's the real battery life? Any noteworthy mentions?
Currently the y570 seems like the best luxury 15" on the market and I really like what I see minus the pixle limitations and battery life. Drop whatever feedback you can! Thanks a bunch -
Btw guys, seems like lenovos' price for the i5 (second from the left) is sticking at around $680, with any kind of discount offered, If you can get it for cheaper you're getting a pretty good discount and if it's more expensive than that, i'd look around for some coupon codes.
-
As for start up time, my brother got the 750GB 5400 RPM drive, and startup is probably around 40 seconds from pushing the button to the login screen. if you use their facial recognition software, that takes like 30 seconds to load, then after that, logging in is very quick. -
start up time without some bios tweaking with the rapid drive model is around 15-20 sec.
in the bios you have to turn off a few things to get the advertised 10 sec. boot time. -
-
And, that's just from normal use and is an estimation. it hasn't spent that much time off of the power chord. -
What do you all think this computer compares to those new Liano Processors anounced in the HP dv series today? My Y570 is taking forever to get built/shipped, so I got time to look around lol
-
-
@sammino, hard to say, Saw this on engadget the other day and thought the same thing as you hahah
. The liano's are brand spanking new. Since you'll probably be using the discrete graphics for graphic intensive tasks w/ this notebook I don't think you should worry about it being outperformed in the respect (integrated graphics). Liano really only beats sandybridge at integrated graphics (but then again there aren't that many tests of that yet) and battery life. Sandybridge completely wipes the floor with some other tasks though. Also, I think liano might be a little bit cheaper. PP wise.
Here's a decent review / comparison AMD Fusion: A8-3500M A-Series Llano APU Review - HotHardware -
I have not seen much real information about how big a difference battery life will be with the lianos. Thats one of the things that made me a bit curious
Also, so like I mentioned earlier, my order was pushed back to the 30th of this month (when i ordered last month lol) and that I might be able to live with. BUT, the 2 bags I ordered with it, was pushed out the end of the following month. Do you think the bags will really take that long to get to me?? -
-
I know right, they were cheap.. i ordered the backpack for 11 and the messenger bag for 17...so where is another good place for bags? I had looked at some sites before but the prices seemed very high in comparison.

LOWEST Brightness, only hd3000 on, wifi on, bluetooth off, pretty much idle not touching the laptop.
If you start using it say like itunes, web browse, open documents..
Youd get like 3 hours straight. On high performance probably like 2+ hours.
its not too bad on battery, it can be used through out the day if you dont put too much on load.
One thing that sucks!!! is that charging. From 10% to 100% takes about 1.5 hours to 2. Which is really annoying. Might need to get a second battery. -

today I had a mini-lan party there were 3 lenovo y570's an HP dv6 QE and an older msi GE600. out of all the laptops the lenovo's have the best build quality. we we're all playing bad company 2.
the 570's average around 40fps with 1xAA 1xAF 1366x768 res. and mostly high settings.
the Dv6 Qe has a1Gb 6770m it was averaging right around 37fps with the same settings as the lenovo.
the MSI ge600 was a bit out of date with it's gen 1 i5 and a 5730m but it still managed a solid 30fps with the same settings as the others.
a few other things to note we had to turn the volume's down on the lenovo's to about 40% just to hear the other laptops. the sound was far superior to the HP and MSI.
the hp's screen was a little more crisp than the 570 but the 570 was alot brighter.
the one thing the HP has on the lenovo is that it is a good amount thinner but it's i7 2630QM runs on average 10-15 degrees hotter than the 570's. -
unkk33- for the ram is it one DIMM for the 4GB of ram or two at 2 GB each?
-
Just a quick one - I've installed a MyDigitalSSD Bulletproof 64Gb SSD in the mSATA PCI-E slot and installed windows 7 ultimate on it. No problems, working great.
