Same question, I'm on a small vacation and won't be home until tomorrow. I'm planning on buying 8 gigs from Newegg after I find out. I figure if it's 1 DIMM, I'll put the DIMM from mine into my wifes 470 giving us both 8 Gigs of RAM.
-
2 dimm running in dual channel
I dont have a small screw driver atm so i cant open the laptop to physically check. I used CPU-Z however something interesting i saw. It shows that there is 4 Slots of ram. And the 2 DIMM's Installed is on Slot 1 and Slot 3.
Slot 2 and Slot 4 have nothing in it. -
kk guys, i got my y570 today second tier, i5 w/o bluray, some things of note, build quality is nice, well balanced so weight is actually alright, screen is meh, but with some adjustments will look much nicer. Tons of bloatware (some are actually useful..), battery is telling me I have 7 and a half hours total. Weird partitioning, I think it's for the 1 key restore. Trackpad takes a little to get used to. Build quality is good. Screen will wobble, but is very solid.

Can anybody help me debug my system . My y470 seems to be underperforming
drastically it is only giving me 3d mark 06 scores of 6500 ...
And I have turned the Switch to use nvidia only and to run 3d mark 06 with nvidia card (beacuse it gave only 4500 first time...) ...
but 6500 is still very far from 10k which it should be giving ;( -
y470 should be getting about 9k rather btw.

I received my Y470 today and am impressed. I purchased the i5 with the 7200rpm hard drive. Here are some of my impressions.
I'll start with the negative.
-The Display - The screen looks nice as long as you have it positioned well. It does not have wide viewing angles. Also, the Screen is a tad wobbly.
-A little bit of bloatware.
Thats really the only negative thing I have to say about it.
Positives
- The Construction of the Laptop is Quite Nice in my opinion aside from the wobbly screen.
- The speakers are really nice.
- The keyboard is easy to type on.
Playing Starcraft 2 the FPS stayed around 85fps unless there was a lot of movement, then it would drop down to between 20-30 fps. The game was being run at native resolution on high settings.
3d Mark 2011 basic edition - 1071
Windows Experience index 5.7.

Sooo battery just died at about 4 hours and 45 minutes, that's from the battery charge when I got it, installing uninstalling and using it constantly (but lightly), I'll time how long it takes to charge up.
-
-
@leoaj, a combination of modes, I played some minecraft using the 555m for about 30 minutes on the highest settings & full screen, the majority of the time it was in a power saving though. Then again, the battery wasn't charged all the way when I first powered it on.
edit: charged it for about an hour from dead, with the laptop off. It's at about 50%, so looking like the charge time on this notebook is around >2hours -
I just got my Y470 today and although I have only played around with it very briefly, so far am pretty impressed, build quality is great! Can I ask, what's the easiest way to do a fresh Windows install, sans all the bloatware, considering we are not provided with an install disc?
What, if any of the pre-installed software is of any use? -
For everyone who bought the y470; how is it so far? I'm about to pull the trigger on the y470. Do you guys think the y470 is for professionals also? How is the hindge? Is it sturdy enough? I'm deciding between the y470 and dell 14r. Thanks. I would like to read some reviews and youtube videos.

Just got my Y470 today. Despite being mostly plastic, I'm very impressed with the build quality and overall sleek design. I nuked the hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro. Loving the fresh feeling of no bloatware. I'll report back on what battery life is like in a few days. I won't be gaming at all on this since I have a desktop so sorry I can't give my impressions there.
does anyone know what software I need to reinstall in order to get back the on-screen volume display when I use the volume buttons to change the volume? -
If I have a copy of Windows 7, do you guys know if I can use the Lenovo serial upon re-install? Is there a way to use the recovery partition to re-install, and not install all the crapware?

So is everyone getting the problem where optimus isn't enabling the GT 555M?
I'm playing Call of Duty 4 right now and I've turned all the graphical settings down, and yet my frames per second are still low. And I know thats not right since notebookcheck.net says that the GT 555M can get around 50 FPS on modern warfare 2.
If anyone has a fix or a way around this, I would gladly appreciate your help.
FYI: I have a Y570 with a i5-2410M @ 2.30GHz -

A few quirks I've had.
WEI seems to be giving me strange scores... probably because WEI doesnt really mean anything, but it's still a little concerning.
Whenever a UAC pops up it changes the screen settings. It's not that hard to change back (tap one key theater) but it is annoying. Because the default screen settings are bordering unusable w/o tweaking imo.
Nvidia Optimus is really picky about being forced to run and kind of frustrating sometimes...
Whenever I open the screen from closed it feels like somethings clicking on the right side of my screen.
Edit: Something else to mention, from what i've experienced so far, this thing runs super cool and super quiet. -
I've been using stock drivers and settings on my Y570. Are you using stock drivers? -
So, I was looking at the y series comparisons and had a question, it says the TriDef3® technology, switchable graphics, discrete graphics and ambient light sensor are available on select models of the y570. When looking at the the y570 comparison section they don't mention which models have them either. What does your model have? Or is there a part of the site I missed that has this info?
Also, I'm new to lenovo and wanted to know if lenovo has come out with stronger batteries post laptop release before. Currently the accessory/upgrade store doesn't list the y470/y570 as an option to shop for. Or do they share the same battery as the y560? -
shoeman6 thanks for the unboxing YouTube.
Is that the hinges problem that makes the screen looks kind of whoobly?
What adjustments did you do to make the screen looks much nicer?
A bit concern about the screen sharpness.
Any owner has any opinion about the screen resolution, sharpness, contrast...etc
Thanks.

Would also like to know more about your screen settings tweaks.
Do you think Nvidia/Lenovo will update the drivers for optimus so it works better or are they just going to forget about it ? -
I just ran a quick heaven benchmark and got sub-par scores. But it was just a quick test
. I'll try again later w/ better conditions.
Screen -wise Intel HD Graphics (in the toolbar) let's you tweak the screen options pretty nicely, my only concern is that really does keep switching (contrast saturation, brightness) without my cue, maybe It's an option I need to toggle or something.
You CAN see the result of the lower resolution though. But it's still a nice large screen.
I would guess the screen wobble just comes from the size, it doesn't feel too loose at all. No problems with that.
Another quirk just can up, I noticed that the plastic surrounding the keys was a bit uneven and it turns out it wasnt pressed in all the way, I went ahead and pressed it down so that it was flat and click back in, but the left side still has kind of a bump. Not a big deal, but kind annoying now that I see it. lol. -
For the people that are playing with no problem, what version driver are you using? Also what games? I've tried CoD 4, ARMA 2 and battlefield 2. -
shoeman6- thanks for your input, especially you say not a problem with the hinges. That makes me sleep better.

@elblufer, thanks

Edit: nvrm WEI is just a pain in the .

I'm posting from a gaming standpoint. I just ran the Video Stress Test in CS:S and the average fps was 194. While playing CS:S fps was between 140-240 at all times. I will be trying Splinter Cell: Conviction and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 soon.
The 555m seems to be kicking in and working fine. I saved the system information into a text file (an option in the control panel) here is all the information.

Just ran a preliminary 3dmark11.. scored 1011. I'm not sure if/why the 555m is under preforming or what.
Cine bench 11.5 Recieved a 28.45, where it should probably be in the mid to lower 30's.
Processor Cinebench 11.5 for my 2410m only mustered a 2.19. -
You've got the exact same model as me, same drivers too.
Let me know how Splinter Cell goes, as CS:S isn't the most resource intensive. Also I'm gonna download 3d mark 11 and see what I get. -
"I installed Fraps so I could test SC: Conviction and R6: Vegas 2. I ran both at 1366 x 768 (native res.) on the highest settings with AA and AF off. R6: V2 defaulted to level 8 (highest settings). R6: V2 ran between 55-75 fps. SC: C ran at a steady 35 fps" -
Those of you that have done a clean install, can you tell me if this guide should do the trick...?

This sucks that I can't figure out whats going on. Also I ran 3d mark 11, got a P980. Also my card wasn't recognized and the driver wasn't approved.. -
If it is and the card still isn't working try adding your .exe file for the game to the Optimus whitelist.
Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D settings > Program settings -
Switch is on and all my programs are added to the whitelist.

3Dmark for some reason isn't switching the graphics card no matter what is done. i encountered the same problem with my brothers both with '11 and '06. It could be that 3DMark just hasn't patched their system to recognize the graphics card yet (it states in the results that this may be a problem).
-
Is there an option to buy a 9-cell battery for the y570? I may buy an additional battery, so I can take it on the go.
-
Gpu over clocking looks like a go.
! I might play around with it later but right now I'm still benchmarking.
Temps look good but I haven't tried a load test yet. The only problem imo is that the cards is already running pretty well already... -
temps don't seem to big a big issue
I ran furmark extreme burning for 15min and only hit 73C
in a 1 hour session of bad company 2 i hit 80 but it was a spike. it usually games around mid 70's. -
Kk, I really don't think over clocking is necessary looking at the speeds, but it's strange that it isn't benchmarking as high as it should be. I'm probably missing something/ doing something stupid.
-
i think what is being misunderstood is the specs on the GT555m in the 570. It IS NOT the same card as what is in the dell xps 17" and the alienware M14x. those laptops have the DDR3 version which is a 144cuda core version that is clocked somewhere in the 500MHZ range (i can't remember the exact number).
the 555m in the Y570 has the DDR5 version with 96 cuda cores clocked in the 750MHZ range. the 555m in the 570 is essentially a slightly overclocked GT540m with DDR5 memory. -
Ahhh i.c, but even in the thai benchmarks they get semi-decent scores. I can't seem to reproduce the same.
-
-
This model looks very nice, but does anyone happen to know when the i5 for the Y570 will be available in Canada?
-
My optimus seems to be working fine.

Anyone looking for more information on both versions of the 555m, here is the link to the official page.

Hey guys,
I've basically been ignored thus far, but was hoping for an answer to this question. I want to create a backup of the stock system before I try doing a clean install, and I've seen tutorials where most people are creating an image file using Clonezilla. That said, couldn't I just create the Recovery Discs via One Key Recovery to achieve the same results? Other than the advantage of not having to deal with the physical media, is there any other reason to use Clonezilla instead?
Thank you. -
I don't know anything about Clonezilla, but the One Key Recovery thing should create an image of Windows 7 as lenovo had it installed when they gave it to you. This includes all of the bloatware, etc.

After a long struggle with indecision over what my next laptop will be, I ordered the Y470 i7/550m/blu-ray that is on sale today for 849. I had previously had my heart set on an ultraportable gamer along the lines of the new Acer TimelineX line, but got scared by the throttling/heat issues and decided the Y470 is a decently portable game-capable (primarily SC2) laptop for an attractive price. Set to arrive June 30th.
I am planning on putting an SSD in there, and am debating between two options: an optical drive hdd caddy (like this) or replacing the internal and putting it in a usb 3.0 enclosure. I plan to rarely if ever use the optical drive. Any opinions on what is the better option?
