Crossing my fingers that the crap displays were just leftover stock being phased out and the late-shipping models will have IPS as TigerDirect's new listing implies. Exact product components are always subject to change without notice, and it may also be why no pro media have received review units, yet.

You and me both! Ordered the same date, same model and same basic experience. Except I never got an email notification indicating the 30 day delay. Instead, Lenovo responded to a previous email I sent (albeit quite a bit later than the 24 hour response time they quote) indicating a June 18th ship date. My online status got updated a little while ago to June 18th (from June 19th previously). I'm holding my breath that you and I will get some great news tomorrow that our highly anticipated model will ship out. I could really use some good news! Sending good thoughts your way and to anyone who is still waiting for theirs to ship!

holding my breath on that too... but I think I'd probably pass out from holding too long. If only we were that lucky. I don't see IPS in our future for a 1080p model this round - at least not at these prices.

So I just got my Y50 from Lenovo about two days ago (the $1,159 one with the 4710 i7, 2gb 860m, 8gb RAM non-touch). Now, I'm seeing pretty good deals from Best Buy ($1,149 touchscreen Y50 with 7260) and rumors of a better IPS screen on Tiger Direct ($1209 for 16 gb RAM, 4gb VRAM, possible IPS). Should I return the one I have and get one of the other models? Or should I wait it out until specs/prices are confirmed so I know what I'm really getting? I don't really need a laptop until the new school year starts in September, so I'm willing to wait a month or two if needed.

Well are you satisfied with what you have or do you want to gamble?
If your happy keep it, if not take a shot with the other sites specs to be true just don't expect any miracles.
Could it have a IPS screen? maybe but highly unlikely , they probably messed up the specs when they listed the Y50. It happens all the time.
    I hope I'm wrong.

Honestly if lenovo suddenly suddenly changes screens on their FHD models there going to be a lot of angry customers. Like Ikas, I highly doubt that tiger direct model is IPS. All of the screen models-3 total- of the FHD version are TN panels, so they would have to be using a panel thats not on the hardware manuel

The display of y50 looked fine when i checked in the showroom, but when i bought it i realsied the color caliberation is not right. They say since it is not IPS , the viewing angles will not be good. Now i realise what it means. It means when you are looking from side angles your view wont be good. Having said that i am very disappointed with the color . I know i can adjut it , but i am not sure what values to use. every time i change it , it seems imperfect. When u look at other FHD screens like ASUS or HP or Dell they are much more vibrant and colorful . Very simple way to test it is either u check a website on your mobile and laptop or compare with other laptop. I bet u can see the difference in color

Quick question: The Y50 non-touch model has the backlit keyboard included as well, correct? I heard somewhere that only the touch version had it.

This is my first expensive laptop and I just got it so I'm a bit confused to what im doing. I just downloaded guild wars 2 and I should be getting around 60 fps on high, but I'm only getting round 20ish. I already checked the Nvidia control panel and it said it was using the Nvidia card instead of the integrated one.

Check the benchmarks here and compare to yours (settings, resolution). Guild Wars 2 is more taxing than you expected, especially when crowded with players.

20ish is higher than the integrated would get on High. GW2 is pretty taxing around large groups of players. I always turn my settings down for cities and WvW.

I tried to cancel my 4k model. The rep said it'll ship to me 3-5 b-days after the order is received. I asked the Lenovo rep when is the order being received. She said I can't cancel because its received. Then I said oh so it'll be shipped by next week. She said no it'll ship the middle of July.

I asked her is it being built to order? She said no but the shipment isn't leaving the manufacturer until then end of July....

So basically she's gonna put in a cancel request. If it cancels then I'll keep my Best Buy touch model. If it doesn't then I'll play with the best buy model until return day and just return it. Or I'll end up with two models which will suck. Well no I could return the 4k model but if I have it I may struggle to return it.

Hey mate, wondering what you think of the Best Buy model. No financing and the specs it has make it the best bang for buck laptop there is right now. I need a new one and the only thing that is offputting is the screen rumors. However being glossy solves the color issue and I dont think the photos Ive seen look all that bad. I don't see the need to spend an extra few hundo to get 4K especially since you cant game in 4k. Opinions?

I don't think I'll ever order from Lenovo directly again. It was a pain to just get my pricing error discount and now they charged me an extra $50 on my credit card without any explanation. Online CSRs weren't very helpful either. Looks like I'll have to call when I get back home...

    Hello,
I am planing to purchase this laptop. I was wondering if the display panel of the y50 with Full hd and y50 wuth ultra hd res is the same. Does the 4k version have any better display ( except for the pixels, obviously ) like better colors, accuracy , saturation , brightness anything ????

I was pretty satisfied with the laptop I had, then then the battery stopped charging even though it was plugged in...power cord and adapter seem to be in good condition, and I didn't tinker with any of the power settings, so right now I'm just assuming that it is a faulty battery. I'm tempted to take the laptop apart and check the battery itself, but I don't want to possibly void the warranty by doing that.

Just got my y50 and setting it up. It's been hanging on a green screen with a circle pinwheel cursor for over 30 minutes after the "almost done" installing apps prompt. Should I leave it?

    Then everything was good.

I just got my lenovo y50 512GB SSD model, and so far so good. The build quality is impressive. The screen is not the best, and compared to an ips display it's going to be ty, but I think I can live with it. I got the laptop for it's other qualities not the display, I plan to hook it up to a big IPS display and use that for photo editing and such. On some other notes, the keyboard is awesome, and I am not finding any issues with the trackpad.

Here you go for the touch Z50:

Laptops and netbooks :: Lenovo Y Series laptops :: Y50 70 Touch Notebook Lenovo - Lenovo (US)

EDIT: If you wanted to keep the extra Lenovo "bloatware", you should have backed those programs up to some external HDD, or a flash drive, before you did the (yuck) "clean install"

The reps have always stated the 4k was TN, but other sources point to IPS. At this point until someone has the laptop and confirms one or the other its really up in the air

You guys gotta stop contacting the reps and expecting to get any truthful info out of them. I can show you hundreds of posts in the Y580, Y500, y510p and y50 threads where they have been wrong. They have no clue. Once, I thought they read off of spec sheets but then they give conflicting reports frequently.

Haha thankfully I got CSRs located in the US so it wasn't as bad. If I actually got connected to a non-North American call centre I wouldn't have purchased it through the phone with the Canadian pricing error discount.

My base Y50 Touch (from Klick's Ebay listing) has already cleared Canadian customs and is in Toronto! It'll finally be in my hands tonight, muahaha! International shipping only took 4 business days, over a week ahead of "estimated delivery date" - awesome! :)
I'll be sharing my thoughts on the laptop after I play around with it and test some stuff out. I know kingfirejet already made a pretty thorough review and I'll hardly be the first to share my thoughts. But if anyone is interested in another opinion on things like screen quality and laptop flex and keyboard feedback, you'll get one. ;)

I don't have any modern games I could try out yet, so see other reviews for benchmarks on those. But soon after I get the computer I'll try running Gamecube and Wii titles on Dolphin emulator and will see how the laptop handles them in FHD and with all graphical effects and hacks like widescreen view. If anyone cares about that, lol.

Obviously the graphics on Gamecube and Wii are nowehere near as impressive nowadays as on AAA on but emulators have a ton of overhead they have to run as well so most laptops can't handle them with even consistent 30fps at lowest settings. I know my current laptop can't and it has an i5 CPU (first generation, mind you) and a discrete AMD graphics card (a mediocre one, but still). Hopefully the Y50 does better. :)
