Newegg doesn't even carry them yet. I only saw a cheaper model.

amazon has some higher end models via klickonline, but you gotta specify higher end ya know, I'm assuming you mean the ssd models
-
Yes, I'm looking for the 512 gb, but without the 3k display. If they have the 3k display only I may consider.
I'm going between the Y50 and the GS60 pro. Any differences that may help my purchase? Is 870M that much better than the 860m?

About 30% better depending on the game.
G60 runs hot but has a great screen.
Y50 runs cool but has a average screen. -
Does anyone elses touchpad not respond when clicking it? I have to click mine pretty hard for in order for it to respond, otherwise its very responsive for scrolling etc.
-
Anyone facing this issue ? it is a serious problem guys if your planning to buy one
-
My touchpad is fine.
-
How do the Y40 and Y50 compare in terms of portability?
Is the Y50 significantly bulkier/heavier in actual use?
Anyone with a feedback would be much appreciated. -
SneakyLittleman Notebook Enthusiast
I know I didn't have any problem with my desktop pc doing that: stock hdd / stock windows 8 install / no hidden partitions, but for the Y50 I'm worried the mbr/ host protected area / hidden partitions won't be cloned properly & so one key recovery might not work afterwards
I'd like feedback from someone who's actually done it successfully. For now, I only see people who've lost this hidden partition or done a fresh windows 8 install.

What's the main/significant difference between this and the below model, any idea?
Lenovo Y50 - Gaming Laptop - Newegg.com -
The processor. The one at Best Buy is the i7, the one on Newegg is an i5.
-
And the BB Y50 is the glossy touchscreen model with edge to edge glass, it makes colors more vibrant.
-
Do you guys think the Y50 with the following specs is worth it for $1040?
500GB HDD+8GB SSD
8GB RAM
2GB 860m
Matte screen
There's only two models available in Canada and this is the cheaper one. -
for the online gamers out there, is it possible to have a good performance on the Y50 with a speed of 4 mbps?
-
The OneKey wouldn't work due to all the partition IDs were messed up by my partition manager.
Then I came across a website that explained how to restore the partition IDs such that OneKey would work again
For those with the same issue as me, I posted below the screenshot of the "messed up case" and the "restored case".
Restore your partition IDs (see instructions on the website above) to be in line with the "restored case" and OneKey should work again.
p/s: partition #8 is my new partition from the original C:\

Where do you see this for $1040? I'm looking at the Lenovo Canada website and the cheapest Y50 is $1149.
-
Student discount + Canadian y410p publicity stunt ($100 off any laptop) = $110 off.
-
Hello, Guys! I got my Y50 with 1tb but I think its little slow anyone know that the WD Black2 Dual Drive 2.5" 120 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD fits in it?
thanks! -
Well, let's just say that if I could buy it for $1040, I'd jump on the occasion. Best I can get it for is $1129 I think. Which isn't bad, but if I could get it down to $1040, I'd probably order it right now.
-
I've seen this question a couple of times now, so I think I'll rip mine apart again and see if I can get one to fit. I'll report back in a little bit.rupeshwar likes this.
-
It's not bad right? But that 2GB VRAM and the 500GB HDD is really putting me off, even though I know I can swap it out myself. Would you still get it after that?
-
I bought the base model from Lenovo Canada. Also had the $100 off but a really nice rep gave it to me for $1029. At 1080p, I doubt I'll need more than 2GB VRAM so that wasn't an issue, I do plan to swap out the HDD with an SSD though, even then it will still come out cheaper than the $1499 model and I can toss the old HDD in an enclosure.

Eurocom Configure Model
If you configure it to be about the same as the Y50, it's about the same price ($1178). At the "normal" price, I'd go with the Eurocom, simply because of the more user-friendly design (as in it's very easy to change things, swap out components, upgrade, etc). You don't have the bloatware, driver issues and finicky wifi card that the Lenovo does.
But at $1040, it's hard to pass up the Lenovo. The HDD isn't an issue - you buy a SSD on sale and swap it out. And as mentioned, the 2GBVRAM is not an issue. Few, if any, games require that. -
Just to add to your conversation, you're also glossing over the portability of the Y50. The Eurocom is about same weight as the Y50 Touch (Y50 non-touch is lighter by 0.2kg), but the Y50 is almost half the thickness at 22.9mm (Eurocom is 42.7mm thick). That's a significant difference if the laptop dimensions are important to you.
-
So I didn't have the specific Black² drive, but I did have a 9.3-9.4mm agility 3 ssd lying around. First off, a 9.5mm will easily fit in the case. The bottom of the case has 4 sets of pads designed to prevent the 7mm drive from moving in place. When I put the 9.3mm agility 3 in the case, it just compressed these pads slightly more than what it otherwise would have with the 7mm drive in place.
You will NOT fit a larger drive than this (~9.5mm) in here though without removing these pads. If you placed some thin felt on the bottom of the case instead of the pads, and were okay with reduced shock protection, you may be able to get 12mm drives in this location, though 15mm, like WD's 2tb green would likely still not fit.
-
no it won't unless you can get a sand paper and scratch 2.5mm off the case
-
eurocom is just a clevo
-
I have the Eurocom in front of me. Weight/dimensions are just fine. I don't know about you, but I carry my laptops in a bag, so dimensions don't really matter. 200g is insignificant in terms of weight. Only real issue is the Eurocom doesn't look as nice.
Like any other gadget, after the first few days, you get over how "nice" it looks.
When I first got my brand new car, I washed it several times a week. Now? Maybe a few times a year. But I'm still happy with it's fuel economy, it's steering, how low maintenance it is - aka the important things. -
Yes it is.
Your point? -
have you seen how we previously ruled out clevo because of aesthetic, size and portability issues? if people don't care about that they would've been going sager/clevo all the way. if we are talking about W series there may be some room for debating, but if we are talking about P series then it's just another topic.PsylentStorm likes this.

I'm merely pointing out the fact that there differences that you failed to address. These differences may not matter to you, but MANY people on this forum have ruled out competitive laptops of their preference because of these details.
I respect your opinion, but if you're going to give a fair comparison, all major differences should be pointed out so that the person you're addressing has a better picture of the situation. I have the Y50 Touch and I love it. I don't care about the screen quality like many others have on this thread and the other Y50 thread, but I mention it because it's sure to be a factor for others.I'm not saying that the dimensions are important factor to everyone, but there's more differences than what you pointed out. -
Has anybody here actually had a Clevo and a laptop the size of the Y50?
I have. Once they're in the laptop bag, you can't tell the difference. They're the same. This is fact, not opinion. Portability is the same.
Only when you put it in front of you do the dimensions/weight come into play (although at 200g, weight is largely irrelevant).
That, my friends, is style, not portability. You can prefer the looks/styling of the Y50 and I'll have nothing to say, since that's your opinion (I personally prefer the Y50's styling, myself).
Don't confuse style and portability. Since most people have never owned one laptop or the other, they're depending on other people's input. And a lot of that input has been wrong. Style is one thing. Portability (how easy it is to lug around in your laptop bag) is another thing entirely.
Anyway, this has veered off-topic. My initial comparison was to show that at the current sale price, $1149 is a fair deal (not good, not great) - in answer to somebody's question. So at $1040, it's a pretty good deal. -
5.3lbs vs 5.95lbs? more than a half a pound is a noticeable difference ya know, not to mention any warranty issues with clevo's reseller these days
-
While I'd love to continue this particular discussion, we're now way off-topic (warranty?). Send me pm's if you want to further the whole Clevo debate.

laptop's thickness also matters when you are trying to fit it in a bag full with other stuff like books thus thickness of the laptop contributes to the portability factor when a thinner laptop would let you have more space for other things in that bag

How is it 4.9lbs!

That single fan cooling system might end up being not so friendly in terms of noise and heat
Thanks for the suggestion though (I was considering a Sager 8268 earlier, but it just doesn't beat the y50 in terms of price).
Exactly! It's hard to pass up that sexy Y50 at this point.
I was able to get it down to $1040, however a couple customer reps are being incredibly stubborn with letting me applying a $50 coupon on it and not letting me bring it down to $990 - even though it's completely contradicting the $100 discount email Lenovo sent out earlier for the pricing error. Mind you, this is $990 for their lowest speced model in Canada, so I should be allowed to receive that discount honestly. -

has any one of you guys tried out the new nvidia driver yet? -

I've tried the new driver. It's kind of a pain to get it installed, but so worth.
-
is there anything worth updating in 340.43? all I see in the patch notes is just a bunch of added SLI profiles with no real benefits to any titles
-
So I just bought the cheapest Y50 model available in Canada for $999 (before taxes) off Lenovo's site with the pricing error discount and a coupon. Let's just hope those shipping times aren't pure BS otherwise I'll cancel and just get the 13.3" Sager. So far I think it's pretty good for what I paid though, and I will replace the measly HDD with an EVO I have at home right now once I receive the laptop.
-
What $50 coupon did you use?
-
Lenovo Canada on Retailmenot
Make sure you call Lenovo if you're gonna order. The live chat people are stubborn as $#!@ and refused to give any discounts on top of the $100 even though they're supposed to. And it felt sketchy as hell when they asked for my credit card over live chat. -
Ohh I didn't know you meant that version. I've had bad luck before with beta drivers in the past so I generally ignore them unless it's something I want. I'm still on 337.88. Sorry!
-
Well there ya have it.... Lenovo just bumped my 4k non-touch order to the beginning of August. Yet their site states 3 weeks. I can't go that long without a computer so I'm gonna go with something else or just get that touch model from Best Buy.

They are driving me crazy with their shipping estimates. I ordered on May 23rd (top of the line touch) and had a ship date of June 19, then they bumped it to July 10, a week later it was bumped back to June 19. Last night I received a email saying it was delayed "We anticipate shipment within 30 days of this notification" but when I checked the order status it still showed June 19 as a ship date. 3 hours ago the ship date changed to June 18 so lets see if I get a email tomorrow saying it has shipped.
