i've been playing quite a bit of BF4 and the cpu and gpu don't reach 80 celsius according to Open Hardware Monitor and Coretemp. Cpu on a few cores have reached as high as 79 celsius.
I'm very happy about that. So glad I didn't buy the SLI y510p cause i've read they get really hot temps in the mid to high 90's.
-
How are the temperatures around the WASD keys though? As stated previously, the CPU is located right underneath there.
-
its interesting that the haswell processor is that hot, is that normal? ori is it just because of the design of the laptop?
the older sandybridge processors never reaches those max temps, even under load. -
It is, Haswell processors run hot.
-
I see so its normal for haswells. I wonder why they cant make it cooler lika the sandy bridges.

Well it all goes into the architecture. Haswell was a revamp of the 22nm chip design so basically you could consider it an overclock in simple terms when actually it was a slight bump in clock speeds but more of a back end change then that. The new Broadwell processors should be a new architecture of 14nm which means less power and heat.

Wonderful review. Thanks for it.
P.S - May I know the video camera you used ? Great stuff! -
Finally, after hours of editing and filming. I got part 1 of the Y50 Touch Review.
This one is about Ports,Build Quality, Keyboard, Screen Quality, and Viewing Angles. ENJOY!

Thanks for the very nice review, kingfirejet. Looking forward to the second part!
-
Just my samsung galaxy s3. I bought a 5 dollar adapter/tripod thing on amazon. The adapter also fitted on a professional sony tripod so that was very nice. Not a whole lot of shaking on my video.
Then i did a few edits on sony vegas 13 on the lenovo y50. also, used gpu acceleration to render and it only took 28 min to finish! I tried to render it on my old asus and it was gonna take 8 hours! -
I don't have infrared to tell you exactly but it's warm. not uncomfortable at all. given the power in this baby i'm happy with heat management.
-
-
How is the keyboard flex? In kingfire's video, he said there was virtually none but I saw in Bee Ho's video it was kinda bad.
-
He has the touch model and i have the non-touch. I doubt our keyboards are different. maybe i'll make another vid showing flex from different angles and lighting. wouldn't it be so much easier if best buy had models to show on display??JC Denton likes this.

Part 2 of my review is here! It will cover GPU/CPU, Temps and Heat, Sound Quality, Hard Drive, Battery Life, and Portability/Weight

Please make it available on mobile. Thanks for the review

your 860m is locked at 1020mhz and will not boost to 1100mhz. seems like they did lock clock speed for US models as well huhLast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

That would be appreciated!

Nice review. I like how you broke it into sections so people can easily hop around to specific sections.

So jealous of you right now. Wish I could by my own. Does anybody have any idea when will they release it in europe?

I suspect it to be in the month of July and maybe August to September for the 4k model. Good luck.
-
so we need someone to make a modded bios to unlock the card and get new nvidia drivers?
-
Another Triple A title, I did some intense Crysis 3 Gameplay. Temps barely rose over 70 degrees celsius.

This is what i have asking for too. Except i've never done it before because i have never has to.
-
Yo guys, some guy found a workaround in the other y50 thread
-
Newer driver and adjusted settings and I got 5000.
-
beeho you're running csgo at 100fps constantly on high settings... mine drops to around 50. What are your nvidia settings at? Any OC'ing? Did you play with throttlestop?
-
how'd you know that it's locked? -
look at GPU Z and where it said boost, the boost clock is still at 1020mhz
-
What would you need to do to get over this? Flash a modded vbios?

Does anybody know if the Y50 would fit in a MacBook Pro 15 sleeve?
I really like this one, but I'm not sure if it'll fit.

i have not yet used throttlestop. no oc'ing whatsoever.
I did note that occasionally i get a micro second of hiccup usually when i'm killed in cs go. -
Yeah that's what I've been referring to. Sometimes it will happen when I'm running or at the start of the round. If that happens to you let me know. I sincerely hope that this gets fixed with the updated drivers.

How to Install Updated Nvidia Drivers!!
Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
You either mod your bios, which is stupid to do just for this or you can oc 100mhz which is not hard at all
-
What percentage OC is 100mhz? I've never OC'ed before, and the Maxwell architecture and stunningly low temps seem to beg for it. Isn't memory OCing different than core OCing? Can you OC both, or does it do that automatically?
What, exactly, does the "lock" mean/refer to in terms of OCing? And how *do* I OC, anyway???
Finally, does the Intel integrated graphics card assist the 860m in game? Like, is it a sort of dual-card sort of thing going on? Seems silly to only use one or the other if the integrated graphics can act as an assist with extra shaders and whatnot.
Somebody school me!!!
Thanks
-
I can't speak about OC'ing the 860M since I don't have this particular GPU but no the Intel GPU does not assist during gaming at all and if your thinking of using it for PhysX in the nVidia control panel don't it doesn't help at all. It actually hurts performance.
As for OCing use MSI Afterburner or nVidia Inspector, both basically do the same thing and work very well. -
So is 3500 the best score someone has got in the Firestrike benchmark?
-
-
Results are on the OLD Drivers (332.50). Thanks to another member on the forum, I was able to update the driver to the current one. It should be 4000+ now.
-
Thats great! As soon as you do the new test could you please post the results? Thank you!
-
Anyone get the 4GB 860M yet?
-
What kind of boot times are we seeing the the SSHD? Also, personal opinions on the touch vs non touch screen would really help me make my decision.
-
Boot times as seen on kingfirejet's video us arnd 25-30 seconds on sshd... ssd is 7 seconds....
and after seeing the pics and videos, I found the touch model screen more deep than non touch but depends upon you.. although according to me , I wouldnt get a touch screen reason because I dont find a practical use of it besides scrolling windows 8.1 startup screen... but that entirely depends upon you.... -
Anyone with ssd version?!?
-
the temp depends on how much voltage you are pushing in. I don't think you need to add any voltage when you oc 100mhz for 860, so the temp won't change. you can OC both core and mem with afterburner or inspector, just watch a few video tutorials and you'll know, those softwares are pretty user-friendly.
when I say lock, I mean that lenovo locked the highest clock speed to be 1020mhz. normally boost will clock up to 1100mhz -
if you are gonna ask what core it's using, then you can go to the y50 thread and find the GPU-Z screenshot
-
I don't think so...
I would probably try for a sleeve that's not designed for a specific machine like this:
Amazon.com: Case Logic LAPS-116 15 - 15.6-Inch Laptop Sleeve (Black): Computers & Accessories
It's the one I'm probably going to get. -
anyone done a fresh install yet? aside from finding the product key where do we get the win8 files to use during the reinstall procedure.
