Lenovo's have an international warranty, but it is only valid if the country you are in sells that particular model. If India currently doesn't sell the Y50, then they will not be able to repair it until they do.

Does anyone have a source that says that Lenovo's warranty is not voided for the Y50 UHD if I replace the hard drive? I'm fairly that's true, but I need to have proof.

Just went to Fry's and saw the UHD Y50. The laptop looks awesome, but the screen's yellows were noticeably more green than those of the MSI GS60's 1080p screen. So is there a fix for it? I remember Xentar posting some calibration files for the screen, but I don't know where that was and how good it was. Otherwise, the screen looks awesome.

I think so far it seems that colours can be tweaked a bit, but are still off overall. We've yet to see a true fix..

There's no fix but the colors can be made to look a little better. Here's the thread with some options: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...hd-screen-calibration-thread.html#post9730744

Hi! I got my Y50-70 with i7 4710HQ, GTX 860m 4GB, 8GB RAM, 1080p, 1TB hybrid drive but I am having some problems with battlefield 4. Doesn't matter what settings I run it on I only get between 24-45 fps. Even when running on low and standard HD resolution. Is it cpu throttling? My low and high fps are the same.
    Thanks in advance!

Is there a model with 16gb ram 512gb ssd and touch screen (as it looks nicer than the non touch)?

Also, if not, hows the scaling issues for the 4k screen, have those been addressed?

My friend is looking at this laptop but wants a screen comparable to the rMBP.

Make sure you have BF4 set to use the graphics card in the Nvidia Control Panel. I've never had any issues, so I don't know where yours are coming from. I have the one with the 4700, 2GB card, and a 512GB SSD (aftermarket). I'm able to run BF4 with all settings on low at 1080p with an average of about 90fps...

hey guys I have been looking into buying the Y50 after looking for a new gaming computer/laptop for 6+months now....
Saw that on TigerDirect, I can buy one with 16GB RAM for about $1100 after rebate.
Now I have done some digging on past threads and realize the IPS is actually a TN....but my question was that on TigerDirect, I don't see it coming with a 8gb ssd.....

I plan to use this computer for watching 1080p videos, trading on the side, as well as some gaming(WOW). Will the 8GB SSD be necessary??
or is it more of a luxury???

the 8 GB SSD is - in fact - not a SSD. it is a hybrid hard drive. you get a "normal" 1TB HDD which has 8 GB of SSD-cache built into it. acording to a algorithm, often used data is not only stored on the HHD but also on the SSD-cache. in the end this should speed up the HDD quite a bit, but nowhere near the regions of a "true" SSD.

I'd examine more if indeed your GPU is in actual use for BF4. I think even with CPU throttling, the FPS wouldn't have such a dramatic decrease on low settings. Those FPS on low are consistent with what the Intel graphics card would produce.

Depends on what you plan on doing with this machine. If your game is CPU intensive than the quad would serve you a little better.

I called lenovo support for ideapad and told them about the y50 4k 48hz issue and scaling to 1080p problems. They took note and emailed the enginners about the problems. Hope there will be a fix.

to answer your question yes it works well, but can you also your CPU clock speed when gaming? like how bad is the throttle? what are your temps? even better if you can use hwinfo.

I'm thinking of buying a Y50 UHD, but I'm a little concerned about this whole temperature/throttling business. Is there another laptop in the similar price range that's superior in this area? I intend to use the laptop for video editing and some gaming (including some Wii-gaming with the Dolphin emulator). For instance, would Asus N550JK be a better buy for my intended use? Or is the Y50 still more powerful despite the "turbo throttling"? Sure would like that GTX-860M...

Thank you all for a fantastic thread, you've helped me a lot already =)

Has anyone undervolted their Y50 yet? I'm going to attempt it using this guide from flipfire, but I was just curious to see if anyone had any trouble with it. I can play everything I've tried on Ultra, but it does get a bit toasty towards the front of the laptop...

Anyone know where to get polyurethane top/bottom covers or have some custom made for our Y50? The- Brushed plastic is very fragile.
Also, can we all pester the out Lenovo tech support for a dynamic color/GAMMA fix? IT IS REALLY NEGATIVE/NAUSEATING. aside from that I have 0 -bona-fide, issues. : )
Plastic cover for this laptop would be great, and a worthwhile purchase.

Also, if anybody could unlock bios on 860m...

Other than that, just fix the darned color-switching.

I am tired of fighting yellow/red/magenta nd it's almost unfortunately enough to make a return. This should/has be fixed or at least addressed.

Sharpness is wonderful. Whites are terrific.

DYNAMIC COLOR ADJUST ABSOLUTELY IS KILLing THE ENTERTAINEMENT / GENERAL PURPOSE / ENGINEERING use of the Y50. It has to be fixed/addressed. This needs to be fixed, beyond the 48hz. Both fixes would be nice.
It's a bloody terrific machine besides those sincerely negative foibles... Anybody agree with me?

How about that plastic/top/bottom case (so I can comfortably put it in my backpack, etc.
I might not buy them yet, as there's got to be a way to ameliorate this disgusting color-adjust. I MEAN, IT'S PERFECT aside from this "*NUKE.*"
Really needs a PU shield for the dainty weak, but rather alright-nice or good looking brushed plastic. Again, it's too fragile long term.. Even short term.. The paint comes off at the slightest bump.......... NEED Poly top/bottom covers.

The dynamic offset color is remarkably and heinously offensive. This has got to be fixed. Really.

It's very bright! Whites are terrific (WHEN NOT DYNAMICALLY ADJUSTED/HANDICAPPED. Dynamic adjust to 'save' yellow / red HAS (I'll consider/weigh groveling) GOT to be turned off/fixed though asap. I mean, this has just got to be addressed/done. It's absolutely heinous.

Many more will sell once the word gets out that it's FIXED. It's a much better laptop once that color-failure is undone.

The dyanamic color solely/at large adjust screws this 4k screen up.

Got my 4k touch. First thing i noticed is that the screen is very good except for the yellow. I was skeptical about it at first, but I believe it now. Going to try to calibrate and see how that goes. Also mine have a little bit of back-light bleed at the bottom, but it doesn't warrant a return yet. Any one got bleeding problem?

    @ATG

this is what I was talking about the other day. apparently in china there're huge throttling issues all over the place where users are experiencing throttling when gaming. from the hwinfo logs that were provided to me it seems like an EC issue. the EC is programmed to throttle the CPU when the GPU is above a certain temp

    here are some examples

    https://mega.co.nz/#F!NlsAHQ4A!tySUVj-bnU0eP4HFIcLbNQ

these are the hwinfo logs that recorded the whole process when gaming. so are we 100% sure that we don't have this problem? just asking to ensure that we are experiencing potential problems.

btw the logs you posted last time were unreadable :(

Hey guys I need some help!!!
Is it legit to buy off TigerDirect?? They have it for $1100 after rebate for 16gb ram : Lenovo Y50 Intel Quad Core i7 4700HQ 2.4GHz, 16GB Memory, 1TB HDD, 4GB GeForce GTX 860M, IPS Full HD 1920 X 1080 15.6 Notebook Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit - 59425653 at TigerDirect.com
But if you check out the link above, they do not specify a SSD at all.

Off their site with student discount it comes to be about $1200. Same version but they specify that it comes with the SSD...

Which is the better purchase? Can anyone confirm if the version on TigerDirect comes with a SSD?

I've had my y50 UHD for about a week now and I'm really happy with it. I haven't experienced any problems yet that I wasn't able to fix. Like everyone else is saying, the UHD screen is amazing.. The yellows are off but it doesn't really bother me too much. I thought the 48fps lock was going to bother me, but I've been playing skyrim and fallout 3 both in 4k resolution on ultra and I get a constant 48fps and everything looks awesome. Those are the only 2 games I've downloaded so far, but next on my list is battlefield 4. Everyone complains about the scaling issue, and it is annoying but I imagine lenovo will annoy Microsoft until they release an update for 4k.. I can read even the smallest text on the screen so its not the worst it could be right now.

Overall I'm happy with my decision, the SSD is blazing fast and the long load times on skyrim are almost nonexistent on this computer. Everyone loves the design also, its nicely built.

Does anyone know how Grand theft auto 5 will run on the y50 once its released? I imagine it should run smoothly

Can someone with a UHD model please confirm something for me? I want to verify it's an issue with the screen and not just my unit. With brightness turned all the way up, open notepad and type something. Then cycle between closing the window and hitting cancel. Does anyone see the screen dimming when they do this?

And I thought I got a good deal thru Lenovo at $1249... I would have much rather gone through tiger, especially at that price.
