    Hello All,

First, thank you to everyone who provided me with information about the Y50 over the weekend. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a Y50 for myself, however, I have one question.

Those of you that have the Y50, could you please tell me if the laptop supports an external monitor at the same time that the laptop monitor is on? In other words, can I use the laptop screen and an external HD monitor at the same time? I need two monitors for studying.

I have an HDMI output on my current laptop, but when I connect the HDMI cable to the computer and my TV, the laptop screen goes black and everything is displayed on the TV. I just want to make sure that this doesn't happen on the Y50.

Could someone please check into this and let me know. Sorry for being redundant, I just want to make sure I can use two screens at once before spending $1000+ on a laptop that I cannot return.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ki||@

Yes. But the hdmi port on the y50 is 1.4a, meaning it can only output 4k at 30hz.

AFAIK every laptop should be able to display both screens at the same time.
Try using the shortcut Windows + P after connecting.
You should be able to toggle the display.

If I buy one of these which should I buy? 3DMark, 3DMark 11 or 3DMark Vantage? Which one does most people use?

I feel dumb now, I Googled how to setup multiple displays and was able to do so on my current laptop.

ChowMeow, what did you mean by this? "Yes. But the hdmi port on the y50 is 1.4a, meaning it can only output 4k at 30hz."

Does that mean that the Y50 will not output to a 1080p screen? Do I have to have a 4k screen to use the HDMI? Sorry, I'm confused.

He means that it will output to a maximum of 4K
All resolutions below it will work without a hitch including 1080p

it really depends on what game he's running. sometimes under auto the nvidia controller gives part of the job to CPU instead, that's my guess

Just purchased the Y50 Touch from Klick Online, thanks for your help guys!

Just curious, what comes installed on the 8GB SSD on this model, it's probably too small to hold the OS, correct?:

    Amazon.com : Lenovo Y50 TOUCH Laptop Computer - 59420895

Also, how easy or difficult is it to replace the 8GB SSD with a larger one?

Thanks again for your help everyone, I'm really excited, hopefully I'll have my Y50 by the weekend!!!

It's a Hybrid SSHD with integrated 8 GB NAND flash, not 2 different kinds of storage.

The hard drive is a hybrid drive. The 8gb ssd acts as a cache drive, so the more you use certain files the faster it will open them. If you were gping to replace the ssd, it would mean yanking out the entire drive.

Just got my Y50 today. Everything works well and performs well, but there is one problem that could get annoying. Whenever I plug in my headphones to the headphone jack, there is an audible, and decently loud, white noise that plays in my headphones at a constant volume. I know it's not my headphones because they work fine on every other device. Does anybody else have the same problem and has found a solution? Thanks

I think someone in the other Y50 thread mentioned that and they solved it by deleting the Realtek audio driver. Either that or updating it. Something like that.

It's not just a headphone jack, it's an Audio Combo Jack (headphone and mic). If you plug in only a headphone plug, that plug shorts out the mic pickup, thereby creating the white noise. You should use a combo jack, and mute the mic in he software.

I got the Y50 on Monday as well and everything seems to be working fine except for a simple game like minecraft.
In multiplayer games especially on minecraft, my fps won't go above 50s, and I also turned V-sync and stuff like that off.

The settings are pretty low and not very demanding either as my 2010 macbook pro can handle minecraft 3x better.
I also used the High performance NVIDIA processor for minecraft under the nvidia control panal, which I believe is correct but instead of something simple like borderlands2 its like c:\users\nameofaccount\desktop\minecraft...
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's very stressful that this computer can run high graphics games but not minecraft :/.

Note: I also updated my drivers to 337.88 already.

That's funny because this computer can run Crysis 3 and BF4 on Ultra Settings with 45FPS+. Try setting the Nvidia Image Settings to "Let the application decide." Put the PhysX on "GTX860m" NOT "AUTO."

Use nVidia Inspector to cap the FPS. It's a pretty cool little program where you can OC, cap the FPS and much more.

I'm currently not able to access any of the media (videos/photos) in this thread. Quick question though: how easy is it to replace the default HDD with a SSD? Do you need to take apart the entire laptop, or is there an easy-access hatch like in most laptops?

Also, has anybody with the Y50 also ever owned a Eurocom laptop? If so, how do they compare from a build quality perspective?

when Overclocked, what happens when the temps reach a point where it can damage the system?
will there be any warning or will it automatically react to protect itself from burning the entire unit?

I actually had nothing OC'ed at the time.

In regards to your post: you really don't want temps to be above 90C, because the heat will wear on the hardware resulting in lower lifespan.

I believe it's set to automatically shut down once temps hit 100C. That is rather hot. The system should be fine if it happens a few times, though.

seems like everyone's got the problem but it's not just too noticeable for everyone or not everyone has tried using a headphones or speakers with it?
hope it's just a software/driver problem that can easily be fixed by a patch/update.

You mean using the Nvidia control panel under the "Manage 3D Settings" you choose the Preferred Graphics Processors as "Auto-select"?
I also already put the PhysX on Gtx860m yesterday.

Borderlands 2 also only goes up to like 40-70 fps at medium and some high settings. Is that normal?
I also put the global settings as "Auto-Select: and still getting the same bad fps sigh.

Java runs by default on the CPU. You have to add java to run on the 860m in the application settings. Also 64bit java helps.

I don't think it's java's problem, even if it is he would just be experiencing cpu temp issues instead

did you turn on v sync? that could've limited the fps
