I don't get it dirty in the first place![]()
Are you talking about the glossy part around the screen or the part around the keyboard and touchpad?

It's safe for me to uninstall Dragon Assistant?
-
Sure, but if you want to get it back from Lenovo, you can't, because there isn't a download for it.
But why would you want to? You really don't have to keep it "turned on", and you can control it's services from starting by switching them to manual. :confused2:
Dragon Assistant | Nuance
Actually, I'm just jealous, as my Lenovo laptop didn't come with this free Dragon software!
(If you read my other posts, I've kept all of the Lenovo software that came with my Y470 system. It only took up 1% of my drive, oh my! Waste not, want not.)
Perhaps you can dump it to a CD, and I'll throw it out for you. -
Just an FYI, if you get a 4K external monitor you'll be limited to 30Hz due to the Y50 only having an HDMI 1.4 port. You'd need an HDMI 2.0 port or a Display Port 2.0 which the Y50 doesn't have. I'm running a Dell UP2414Q UHD monitor and it will only do 30Hz. I'm not a gamer so it doesn't affect me.

Hey guys, been a while since Ive posted in this thread. Had my y50 for probably around a month now and It is definitely worth the money. I got the top 4k model with 4gb gfx card and 16 gigs of ram if anyone is wondering. Aside from yellows everything has pretty much been working at 100%.
I did however end up dropping down to 1920x1080 resolution on my desktop. Still looks great and it makes it so games and other things run and look correct on the screen.
Ive only been having one problem and Im pretty sure it has to do with the wifi card. While playing League of Legends, I will randomly start to dc and my ping goes up to approx 300 for maybe 2 seconds at a time. This can happen twice in one game, and sometimes it doesnt happen. Idunno if the card has an issue with my router or what, but I dont really play any other game atm so I cant really test if its just this single game it happens in.
Anyone else experience this and find a solution? Would upgrading the wifi card be a possibility? Like possibly to the 7260 (i think thats what it is)? Thanks for any response. -
Got this laptop yesterday, the UHD, i7-4710, 16GB RAM, 4GB 860 and 512GB SSD, and I love it so far! Need some more time to play around with it though before I have a clear opinion on everything. The yellows can be "fixed" by calibrating, but it won't be perfect, atleast not on lower screen brightness.
A question to other owners;
When you run the laptop at "high performance mode", does it set the minimum CPU-state to 100% if you check the settings for high performance?
When mine is in high performance and I run CPU-Z and let the laptop idle, the clock speed is 3,3-3,5GHz all the time (multiplier x33-x35).
Is this normal for the high performance mode on all laptops?
I just notice the CPU-temps rise, of course, compared to the balanced performance battery setting being 5% minimum, 100% maximum. -

Sorry if it's been said already but...
CHROME FREAKIN' FINALLY SUPPORTS 4K! (yay!). You need version 37. 64bit version available too, US English only for now.
My y50 4K comes in on Tuesday (in France, only available through lenovo's site for now). I'm psydched

my hybrid drive acceleration is disabled. how i can enable it?
during play gaming my battery is discharging. what is the problem ? how to fix it? -
the part around the keyboard and touchpad -
Well, uh... It never gets dirty for me xD
I just used a microfiber rag that we have at work. I'm sure any kind of rag will work. I didn't wet it or anything, but I didn't really need to either. -
Quick question regarding the battery : is there a way to prevent the battery from charging when plugged on AC? That would considerably save it my laptop is plugged 90% of the time.
Thanks! -
-Open lenovo battery settings, or whatever it's called
-Use "Conservative mode"
this will charge the laptop up to 60% and then it will use the AC power. -
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks m1ko!
-
no problem
Do you really want to "Game" on a 750?
if you are on a budget, you should consider the Y510p, it has a 755m,and you could get a second 755m to run in SLI.
But beware: Said 755m second cards are out of stock pretty much everywhere. -
I week ago I desided to get one Y50 myself. I want it mainly for gaming (BF4, WoW, D3, Assassin's Creed).
The model I've got cost me around 900Euro. It was the FHD(Matte), 4710HQ, 16 GB Ram and 1TB HDD which I am going to replace with 512 840 Evo.
It came without OS so I have installer a fresh 8.1. The only thing that I have downloaded from the Lenovo's page was the chipset and the Energy Managment Software.
I had no problems playing WoW and Diablo at the highest settings. No throttling and the temps could not even go higher then 65C.
Unfortunately while playing BF4 I was getting some strange 1,8Ghz throttling which is a deal braker since at 1,8 Ghz the so powerful highend CPU becomes a bottleneck. On top of that you have the EC Turbo throttling (no turbo after 65C on GPU).
So I desided to try TS and see if I can get past it.
I did a lot of testing and I found out that setting the multiplier in TS to 2,9GHz and undervolting using XTU by 70mV is exactly 47W TDP during prime95 stress test. It would never throttle below this unless you set the multiplier higher which would result in TDP Throttle. Then I have run a 1:30h stress test using prime95. The temps never went above 80C and the CPU never throttled below 2,9 GHz. Bear in mind that you will never get such CPU usage in any game on that laptop. Battlefield 4 on high setting is ultilizing 30-40 % of the CPU and consuming only 25W at 2,9 GHz. Everything past 2,4 Ghz is not effecting the FPS in this game.
Now with the thorottling issue gone I have desided to go on the GPU. I have overclocked the Core by 100 mhz and the Ram by 500 mhz.
After that I went for the real world test and played BF4 for about 2 hours.
The CPU was running all the time at 2,9 Ghz and the GPU at 1197Mhz. The temps were around 78-80C for the CPU and 75 for the GPU. Not a single throttling from both the CPU and the GPU
The display isn't that bad for gaming. Yes it is low quality one compared to the acer v5 FHD IPS Matte screen but you can put exactly the same in your lenovo for just 80 Euro.
Build quality is nice although the laptop is fingerprints frienly and you have to wipe it often. The sound quality is nice, touch pad is bad, battery life isnt good either but I hope that with little tuning I will be able to get over 4h.
Mine got Intel 7260. I have downloaded the drivers directly from the Intel's webpage and never had any problems with it.
So far the performance/price ration seems the best among all laptops.
Still got one more week for testing. After that I will deside if this is going to be my feature laptop or not.
All the best. -
Thank you
-
I want to give this a shot. What is "TS?" Also, essentially you're downclocking the CPU turbo but that keeps you from being throttled back to normal CPU frequency?
-
I prefer the Y50, but reading so many comments about the bad screen is turning me off.
The Y510p is not really an option, since it weights 2.7kg.
And the Acer has a really underpowered CPU, so I don't know what to buy
-
When taxed, my fans have, over the past two months, gone from a loud, but bearable "wooooshing" sound to a high-pitched, ear-piercing whine. The whine is also accompanied by an intermittent "wubwubwubwub" sound as well.
-
The TS he is referring to is a program called ThrottleStop.
The screen is usable, didn't have many issues. I could live with it if I had to. But when you have the option of going to an IPS, why the heck wouldn't you? Again, you can live with it, but the upgrade was worth it to me. Just like going from a HDD to an SSD. It's not that the HDD is bad, but why would you stick with that when you could get a solid state drive? -
My laptop plays on the crappy intel card instead of the 860m when it's not plugged in. I tried going into the NVIDIA control panel and setting the default graphics card to my 860m plus on the actual .exe game. But when I tried to open the game, it still plays on the Intel one. I even tried to disable the graphics card in device management but when i tried to start the game, it just crashed. Any ideas?

According to a user in the forum the UHD monitor has a LVDS 40 pins connector. So anybody knows if there is any option for this connector?
-
that cant be correct as lvds does not have the bandwidth for anything close to 4k resolution. it might be that its a 40 pin edp connection, - I guess we will find out soon. I have ordered the 3200x1800 screen from china, hopefully it should arrive in a few weeks, then I should be able to confirm whether that panel is ok for y50.
also, I have received a 7260 from another lenovo laptop (thinkpad p540) and it does not work, so I guess we will have to wait for bios mods to become available to get rid of the whitelist. -
So does it mean that we should look for 40 pin eDP connector panel like this one?
LQ156Z1JW03 Datasheet download - Panelook.com
How should I know the spec of the panel to choose? I want to open the lid of the panel and figure out the specs but I don't know what to look for.
I appropriate if anyone can help me with it. -
Got my M.2 7260 week ago and received whitelist error too. How long does it normally take for whitelist removed BIOS to arrive? -
Hmm, wasn`t there a hack to enable HiDpi mode in Chrome for the older version?
In any case, it is nice to see Chrome now officially supports 4K. -
i think thats nothing we can do, because the nvidia driver, Optimus automatically switches graphic to integrated one so the battery would last long on gaming
-
I was actually have this same stuttering problem with my first y50 so I sent it back for a replacement and I got my new one and the problem still happens. I ordered my ssd and it should be delivered on Tuesday so I will definitely let everyone know if it fixes the problem or not. I'm having issues with this y50 too so I might have to send it back for another replacement :<... I'm only getting half of my internet speeds on wifi and ethernet as well as a sound delay of 1-2 seconds randomly when I play games. I love this laptop and everything about it so I"m willing to go through replacements as long as it gets fixed.
-
This is the image of the connector for UHD model. It says that it's LVSD on the model name. Do you have any idea why is it says LVSD?
Also I am thinking that would be reason for 48 hz limitation.... View attachment 115298 -
im sorry for this, but may u post a pic of that application? coz my y50 comes with dos and install the windows 8.1.. so i dont have any of lenovo oem products pre-installed
-
So, those who have crappy atheros cards cant replace with intel ? This is pretty ed up. I was hoping I could replace it. -
Is there anyone with throttling issues i7 4710HQ in battlefield 4 throttling to 1.8Ghz....? I can understand not passing 2.5Ghz...but after 5-10 min of playing BF4 it goes to 1.8 and remains there...this is such a pile of crap!
-
I had the same issue. The only way is to use Throttle Stop and to set the multiplier to like 22-24+. I am still curious why it does that.....................
-
Would you recommend this laptop? (I can only get glossy non-touch screen). I'm looking for an all-around laptop (programming, gaming, movies, browsing the web) and this one has the best specs for the money.
-
Yeah, pretty crappy I'd say. Now we just have to wait for some BIOS-wizard to give us freedom.
I would recommend it. Best bang for the buck. Just try get a version that comes with good wireless straight from the shop. -
What I dont understand is - They do have some models with 7260 inside, does this mean they have different bios too ? For different models ? I find this weird, lol
-
I bet those that have it as standard has different device ID on WWAN board then those bought separately.
-
When you tried installing the wifi card, was that with the old bios or with new bios update installed (which was released on 28th August) ?
-
Has anyone else experienced audio delay while playing games? Like something will happen then 1-2 seconds later you'll hear the actual effect? This is bugging the crap out of me and it happens randomly. I'm also getting half of my normal internet speeds on this y50 but I can deal with that.
-
I haven't seen that issue. Maybe check to make sure your drivers are up to date.
Also the internet issue; I'm not having it. What wifi protocol are you using? If you're using 802.11ac you should be getting as fast as your internet is capable. At my university, I get 80-100mb/s download speed with the 802.11ac protocol, which is so awesome. -
How do I check my wireless protocol? I'm usually connected to the ethernet port all the time on my first y50 I got the 7mb speed but on this one I"m getting around 2.5-3.5. I tried wireless like once or twice and the speed was around 1-2mb.
-
I have that problem when I play mass effect. Shepards mouth would animate before you actually hear his voice when selecting the dialog.
-
I would just like to give a heads up to those who plan to play The Sims 3 on Y50. I just installed it on mine with some of the expansion packs and it does not recognize the video card
I've tried editing the GraphicRules.sgr and GraphicCards.sgr files but eventually nothing showed under devicelog file even i delected the file and relauched the game I just can't get it back
It's more of a sims 3 problem than the laptop itself but i just wanted to let others know. I'll give an update hopefully if i can get it to work.

Is the GTX 860m supposed to run at 5000mhz memory clock speed or 2500mhz? I find mixed results at notebookcheck, but mine is running 2500mhz. Something wrong or is 2500 what Lenovo set as stock in this device?
-
Check out the specs for the GTX 860M:
GeForce GTX 860M | Specifications | GeForce
Then check out the Nvidia Release notes for the latest driver update.

Hey,
Sorry if this question has already been asked, but what seems to be the expected battery life for normal usage? I just received my Y50, and just using word on power saver mode only gives me a battery life of 1 hour and 30 minutes...
(I did swap my screen out for a B156HAN01.2, but other than that everything's stock. Does the screen use a lot of power, or is the battery life just mediocre in general?) -
I was able to run for much longer than that while using Word on the laptop... I would check to see if you have anything running in the background taking up power. Oh, it should be noted that I have a SSD in mine and that reduces power consumption as it is able to idle (the HDD keeps spinning without stopping). Anyway, open up Task Manager and disable any start-up items except for those you need and the touchpad program.
-
Make sure you GPU isn't set to the discrete gfx always.
My computer runs about 1.5-2 hours (i can rarely watch a long movie) while watching videos/movies. (This is on everything high)
When I run nothing but browsing/word etc on high, it lasts approx 2-2.5 hours.
I'm assuming if I turned the screen brightness all the way down (power saver) I could get 3-4 hours. I haven't tried but I believe I would.
The battery on this is decent not great.
Also after the B156HAN01.2 I ordered on Aliexpress turned out to be a dud/DOA, I finally got a refund after the seller never responded to the dispute after 5 days. (I should be getting refund in 10-15 days)
I was going to order from lcdtech889, but it appears they are sold out until Friday 9/5 or Monday 9/8. It also appears as if they only have the Matte version. I prefer the glossy version, but the the Glossy version seems impossible to find anywhere. Hoping they get it Friday and I can order it and get it in this laptop ASAP. I have already been let down once, I'm hoping I dont get a DOA one again! I can't stand this screen any more! It literally hurts my eyes to look at it. I would have paid Lenovo the extra to not have this issue initially...
