I bought this laptop refurbished and it came with a 7260 card...

I was wondering if anyone else was having trouble with the keyboard response time being slow after sleep. I seem to have temporarily fixed it but I'll let you know.

Also, does anyone else have a problem with the ctrl key being randomly pressed while typing? I have fixed it a couple ways:

    1. Disabling touchpad (annoying)
    2. Reinstalling touchpad driver (Maybe worked?
    3. Disabling window change sideswipe. This was the most effective and seems to have fixed it.

Yeah, saw that link yesterday. The problem persists. Hope a fix comes soon. I'm gonna probably make a script that runs once after waking the computer that just opens and closes the keyboard settings. I think it's just the driver suspension code--it's borked...

I have the 4GB model and it has a 7260. I can't promise yours will come with one though. Most people seem to be getting the 3000-series AC card and it's apparently crap.

Someone has noticed that the power button is unresponsive at the first press when the device is off? This has happened me few times after long period of no use. When i press it again the laptop boots normally. Any explanation? (Most likely i havent pressed the button hard enough, its just my OCD)

Yes probably the latter, the button is somewhat insensitive - if you don't press it quite the right way/with enough pressure, it doesn't register the push. It happens to me on my Y510p too.

Well it felt noticeably slower compared to my 3 yrs old Sony Vaio that has a 128GB SSD which is what prompted me to run a test. Programs thats open instantly on the Sony take a noticeable delay to open.

Hey guys I need help from people who actually have this laptop! I'm looking to purchase a new gaming laptop and I'm seriously looking at the Y50/Y70 touch. I've seen people complain about the screen and fan noise, so I get it. The big thing for me is that I will use the laptop to hook into my projector/receiver home theater via HDMI. I read somewhere that the Y50 does NOT use the video card when connected to the HDMI, instead using the on-motherboard video. Is this true? If so, that's probably a dealbreaker for me.

My budget is about $1500. I'm coming from an Asus G73JW. Before that, Alienware M17x r1 (which replaced my Dell m1730 the original BEAST), and before that a Dell 9100. I'm no stranger to gaming laptops, and I am heavily debating 15" and 17". Touch screen is nice but not 100% necessary. I'm also researching an MSI GS60 Ghost Pro. Not sure I really care about the 3K/4K screens (my eyes suck).

Any help you can provide me is much appreciated! I've been with NBR forever so thanks in advance :).

The HDMI goes through the Intel GPU yes, but just the video output itself not for the actual GPU processing if that makes sense. I game via HDMI and it plays the same as when on the internal display. Now that I think about it, it's the same for the internal display. Basically the Intel does the final video output no matter what, but isn't doing the processing if you choose the Nvidia GPU from optimus settings. I hope that makes sense and helps a bit.

That helps a TON thank you for the quick response! I understand what you mean - the GPU handles the load and processing, and the onboard chipset handles formatting it for display. How is the audio via HDMI out? Does it output 7.1, 5.1, whatever? I'm looking to get the model with the 4gb video card, 512GB SSD, and probably touch screen. Has it been on sale a ton or should I wait a while? I saw the Y70 just recently came out, so I understand why there's no discounts on that model. Right now it's $1499 after a $300 eCoupon...

Lenovo Y50 Touch Laptop | 15.6" High-Performance Gaming Notebook PC | Lenovo US

Can anyone speak to going from 17" to 15"? Big difference? Big deal? I'd like a laptop that was lighter/more portable than my G73 but I realize I may be sacrificing some other things!

IMO 15.6" is plenty big--in fact, I might prefer a little smaller for portability. I just can't see myself using a 17" any time soon. Some people like it though and you can get some more performance, but I don't need a beast for a laptop--just something portable that can still play games decently. The Y50 fit the bill perfectly. I got mine refurbished with the 4GB card and 16GB of ram for 1k. Great deal.

So after a full day of researching, I'm 95% sure I'm going for this laptop. I looked at the Asus offerings, but I don't really like the keyboard I'm typing with right now and so I want to try something else. MSI's Ghost looks nice, but I worry about heat buildup and the lower-spec video card compared to the Maxwell 860. And the touchscreen option puts it over the edge for me.

So at this point, what are your thoughts about pricing? Should I pick up the touch with 4gb card and 512gb SSD for $1500 after $300 eCoupon, or has the pricing been better in the past? Plexabit, where did you pick up your refurb? From the lenovo website?

Thanks for the replies! Very helpful :)

Hi, it's me again... so the random shutdowns happened again and they happened during other game... It happened twice during League (with plugged in cable) and during minecraft (on battery)... I have no idea what to do with this, i searched the internet and no solution... It is really frustrating now. Should I return it? (i Have it for 3 weeks now... roughly) This problem really makes me sad, it is a very expensive laptop and keeps shutting down randomly... what a shame.

I got mine on TigerDirect. Here's a link to a touch one. You could upgrade to SSD, 16GB RAM, and screen (providing you find a touch-compatible one, haven't seen any) for less than the normal price (This is the 2GB model unfortunately). TD rep said they're returning them for things like the screen, etc. so they're barely used. Mine looked brand-new. It now has one scratch though XD

OK thanks for the link! For an extra $500, I might be better off just getting the 512gb SSD, extra ram, and 4GB card with a full year warranty. But thanks though that's a big help!

    Hi Guys,

I have a annoying poblem here. The big fan from my Y50 is ticking and having a pulsating workload during low temperatures (between 43C-46C) When the laptop gets a little more warm when doing a job it starts spinning faster and makes no clicking noise, But when idling it spins very slowly and in pulses and has that anying clicking sound. Please help..!!
I am on Windows 8.1 and energy manager 1.5.0.16.
The small fan is ok...spining constantly and noiseless.

My understanding is that the fan's driver just sucks, i had the same problem before i undervolted enought to lower my idle temps, -75mv for CPU, -50 for both cache and gpu and your temps drop enought so the fan just shuts off on idle...

I think the problem is the temp where the fan shuts itself off, when the fan is going off, temps rise like 1 celsius, then it spins again and temps drop 1 celsius, then shuts again and this happens and happens

Good theory, sounds plausible and better yet - its something fixable. Could someone post this theory(giving proper credit to the OP of course) to Lenovo forum please? I don't have an account there..

    Edit:

    Can someone confirm this?

    Hello everyone ..

I'm looking into replacing the SSHD with a 512GB/1TB SSD but luckily I just happened to remember that I've got Micro SATA SSDs (256gb each) from my previous ASUS UX51, will I be able to install them by connecting them using a 2.5 Inch SATA Adapter Card on to our Y50 ?

If yes, I would like to know of there are any recommended Micro SSD to 2.5 Inch SATA Adapter Cards to get the best results.
    Mirco SSDs are ADATA XM11.

Can anyone help me with this ty problem as it really making me crazy

Now the device have nvidia GTX 860m dedicated 4 GB ram

    It came pre-installed with 8.1

But when I try to play pes 2013, it gives me an error that device doesn't meet minimum specs required for the game which for sure isn't true

I have the same problem with z510 and the only fix to it was to downgrade bios to 28 but I'm now on the latest bios with this y5070 and even it came with older bios and was having the same problem

Also I can play pes 2014 without any problem and it's showing the right information
So it's not drivers problem and this problem is only in 8.1

Here is pic for pes 2013 showing gtx 860 card with only 32 mb of ram
    [IMG]

While this is pic of pes 2014 which showing the actual settings and working perfect

Have you selected the game to run with the 860m??

Most people seem to think that's the problem....

For sure I have selected it
Look at the pic and u will see that the game stating that it's using the gtx 860 but it read the ram of the Intel in pes 2013
While pes 2014 using the vga ram of the gtx

And note that this problem is in all my Lenovo devices with Windows 8.1 and latest bios
But at least I can fix it on my z510 with just installing old bios
While with my new y5070 I'm unable to play because of this stupid bug in Lenovo bios

So can any one else confirm if he has the same problem with Windows 8.1 and pes 2013 ???
I'm sure that all of you have the same probelm

I doubt the Y50 is to blame here, I find multiple reports for this problem on the Internet, different GPUs/machines. It seems PES2013 doesn't like it there is IGP+GPU in the computer. The only workaround I find is to downgrade to older NVidia drivers(ver 301 but for you I think its not an option) however with the GTX860 you cannot downgrade too much because the card is not supported.

GPU-Z showing the full 4 gb dedicated ram without any problem
And also PES 2014 showing the full ram without any problem

All problems us with pes 2013 and pes 2009 and it's not hardware problem but it's bios problem with Windows 8.1 only because I fixed it on old z510 by downgrading bios
So if any one can try it on his lap and I'm sure he will find the same problem
And now hope Lenovo can fix this problem but the problem that they didn't even know about it

Hope any one can help because it's really annoying to buy this lap for gaming and can't play may favourite game while my 7 years old lap plays it on high settings

I don't think that it's pes 2013 problem because Tue same problem is on the Lenovo z510 and only fix to it is to downgrade bios to 20 series and then the game can see the full ram without any problem on the same Windows 8.1

So with Windows 8.1 on z510

With bios 20ww or 28ww : game can see full vga ram

With bios after 30ww : game has problem and only see the Intel cha ram 32mb

So it"s clear that it's bios problem of Lenovo with all their laptops and I'm using the old bios on my z510 to avoid this problem

While with the y5070 I can't find any older bios and it came pre-installed with 8.1 so it's supposed to work with it

Really stupid bug from Lenovo and hope for a fix for it

For some people disabling DPI solves the problem, you can try it if you haven't done it yet. Right click on pes.exe(or whatever the game's executable is)->Properties->Compatibility->Disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Don't touch anything else, just apply and try to run it.

I think it's something related to latest bios and Windows 8.1 because Windows 8 and 7 can play it without any problem

You better hope you're not right because you don't have much to try with Y50's BIOS.

Edit: Did you try the DPI thing on both settings.exe and pes.exe?

Yes tried on both and still the same
I can play the game but it's on the lowest settings and can't even edit it because it says my system doesn't't meet minimum requirements and also it gives me low ram messages during play

Game play of pes 2013 is some how similar to play station 3 and more enjoyable than 2014 ;)

Any way it seems that there is no fix for this problem
So I forced it by patch to play on high settings and no problems except some times showing low memory but at least working at high settings and high resolution
