Anyone tried playing evolve and got really bad performance? I was playing 720p, low settings and got lag very badly, somewhere around 8fps. Yes, I had my battery settings in "high performance" mode. It seems that my nvidia card is not even being used. Laptop was relatively cool.

It's probably against the rules to repeat questions but I'm afraid that I haven't made myself clear, I would like to replace my 1TB HDD with two ADATA XM11 256GB SSDs, but those are proprietary SSDs and it's quite difficult to find and converter.

I have found a converter that fits only 1 SSD but unfortunately that wouldn't work for me since my SSDs work in RAID 0. Here is the product I've found http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-XM11ZZB5-Adapter/dp/B00CJDNTM2 and I would appreciate if anyone could lead me to a way to install both of my 256GB SSds.

I have figured out a solution. You need to go to Nvidia Control Panel and manually set Evolve to run on the 860m. It seems the developers have no customize the game and it is default to run on the integrated graphics card. With the 860m, I was able to run 1080p high settings with AAx1.

    Hi all,

I am new to this forum but I thought I would just let all know my experience with my Wi-Fi card on Lenovo Y50-70, out of the box I was getting disconnected to my router every 6 minutes, I would get drop outs and limited or no connectivity and I am about 4 meters away from my router, I had also tested this with my friends router to rule out it wasn't my setup at home.

I was fed up with this so I started to investigate further, I have found out that my version of Wi-Fi card is Atheros AR956x (can find this out in device manger) that the driver version of that my laptop was sent out with was Version: 10.0.0.274, this is the latest version for the Wi-Fi driver on Lenovo's website, I then went to https://www.atheros.cz/ and found the latest driver for my Wi-Fi model was 10.0.0.297, after testing this driver out for two days I have had no Wi-Fi drop outs or limited or no connectivity, so anyone who is having problems with Wi-Fi with that model its worth updating it and letting me know how you get on.

I hope this info will help you all with the Atheros Wi-Fi card. :hi2:

Hello guys. I have a question,i hope that you will help me :).
I want to buy a laptop, and my two best ideas are the Lenovo y50 with 16gb ram and this one : Amazon.com : HP ENVY 15t i7-4710HQ 16GB RAM 1TB Hybrid Drive Windows 8 15.6" Full HD Notebook Laptop PC : Computers & Accessories

What do you guys think which one is better? The hp now is 300$ cheaper. But i kinda like more the Lenovo.
I work as an affiliate marketer, but sometimes i play games, im not very addictive on games. Primary for me is the speed of laptop. I had for like 4 years a hp dv6 i3 and now its time to change it :)

Thanks, and sorry for my bad english.

Hi, my personal opinion I would go for the Lenovo, its a great laptop but my only gripe is the screen but Its not that bad. Lenovo are currently having a VAT back promotion at this time as well so that's one more reason to buy.

Hey guys, love my Y50, it always impresses everyone with its looks and specs. Besides the yellows and scaling issues (I changed the resolution to 1080p now so it isnt a scaling problem) Ive only had one recurring problem, and thats with the wifi card. I have the ac 3160 or whatever its called and I have random ping spikes in games repeatedly as well as sometimes full drops from tue internet even though I never actually disconnect from the network. This happens at my college as well as at home. Anyone have a solution to this? Can I replace it with the AC 7260 and is that one any better? Thanks for any assistance :D

Hi, I bought the Y50 4k edition and I'm pretty satisfied with it, except for 1 problem, from time to time I get a 100% disk usage and it freezes whatever I'm doing at the time for around 30 seconds, it happens even when I'm just using chrome or when I'm playing a game. I have been looking for a solution and have seen that this is kind of a common problem with Windows 8.1 but none of the solutions I have found have worked, I hope somebody can help me.

Having this problem somewhat as well. Really annoying because the fans keep cycling up and down during this for some reason. I think it's Windows Defender checking the disk in the background.

Also, I'm sure that the 7260 has BIOS support--mine (4GB VRAM) has the 7260. I think they just sell the higher-end ones with the better WiFi cards...They're like 30 bucks or something and I would recommend it. I am having a couple problems with the driver but I think I'll update to the most recent one on Intel's site and that should fix it. A little queasy about it so I'm going to do a little more research first.

I have the highest end model you can get, the 4k 4GB Vram 16 GB RAM 512 SSD and it came with the crappy 3160. considering replacing it with the 7260 but idunno how much better it really is and if I can actually put it in my machine.

EDIT: if it is compatible, does it void the warranty I purchased if I change the card?

EDIT2: I pulled the trigger and ordered the last 7260 from Amazon for 30$. Anyone have any helpful tips/information I should know about switching wireless cards in a laptop? Should I download and install drivers beforehand? Anything would be appreciated :D

Yeah, download the driver, turn off the computer, replace the card, turn it back on. If the card is whitelisted, it should start up probably with no internet connection. Install the new driver and restart. If anyone thinks this won't work for some reason let me know :D

It'll only void the warranty if there is some kind of sticker over the card which there isn't (I don't think...). Just remember to re-replace the card if you send it in.

Hm....there isn't a FOLDER persay. It's a parameter in a folder (Mine was in the 0000 folder). I actually don't have the ScanWhileAssociated but maybe try doing a Ctrl+F and searching for "ScanWhileAssociated".

In the end though the 3160 is just a crappy card. So you'll probably be happier with the 7260 if you're not able to cancel your order.

You have to create the key if it doesn't exist.
If the folder isn't there try reinstalling the latest driver for the card, and retry.

I get this sometime...Kinda annoying. It's the hard drive waking up to do something I'm pretty sure. Do you have an SSD? I'm thinking getting an SSD will fix that even though it shouldn't be happening at all. XD

No I have a SSHD and I actually kept researching and was thinking to get a SSD. I also came across some people saying that maybe the tool called quietHDD helps prevent it from going to sleep in the middle. will try it out i guess.. anyone tried it before?

    Good day to all

Finally got a y50! and coming from a low end old reliable laptop from '08, i gotta say there are going to be a lot of getting used to :p.

If anyone would be kind to share anything I should know to optimize the software (updates, drivers, settings), thank you in advance.
Though I've been lurking here checking out your responses on the unit. I'd like to know if there's anything new.

Thanks again guys, I believe this y50 is gonna be my new reliable. XD

Some do a clean reinstall--I didn't, I just uninstalled some of the unneeded Lenovo stuff.Keep Energy Manager and Settings--they have some useful stuff and you can't reinstall them as far as I know.

If you uninstall anything you want to keep, all the driver setups are on the secondary partition.

I've had this exact same issue with my Y50 before I purchased my SSD. My dota 2 would just randomly freeze for 1-2 seconds it was quite annoying. It's the SSHD causing the problem though so if you can I would highly recommend getting a SSD.

EDIT: Does anyone know of a program to use to make a backup copy of your bios for someone to mod it? I've found someone that will do it but I don't know exactly how to make a copy of it for him. Thanks in advance for your help.

ok guys im having a serious problem here, my y50 doesnt seem like booting. I'm getting this error: Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.
I tried looking for a solution and some people have said that changing the bios settings to legacy has worked for them but unfortunately not for me. In case anyone is wondering my SSHD is not defective as it is readable in the bios, ive tried messing around with everything but it seems like a hopeless case. Even the home button for doing a system restore would result in the boot fault. I would appreciate any help regarding this matter as Lenovo customer support in Egypt isn't really that helpful or cooperative.

Ok I will look into getting a SSD. Which SSD do you recommend for the Y50? If I get a ssd, how do i get the exact image of my current drive onto that drive? Is there a guide or tutorial to follow ? I never done it before.... In the meantime, I have been experimenting a bit with quietHDD and CrystalDiskInfo. It seems to make a bit of a difference.

I have had the same issue the first y50 i bought. I figured out it was a defective hard drive. I think you might have the same problem as well. To diagnose this go to your task manager and check the disk usageunder the performance tab. On my defective laptop the harddive used to constantly be at a 100% or the response time would be a couple of thousand milliseconds. If this is your issue best option would be go through whatever customer support lenovo has in your country. Also try asking for a case manager as they have more power than your average customer support person. Good Luck. :D

Edit : NVM you said the harddrive wasnt your issue. I guess i cant read haha. Good luck anyway!

I recently bought the Lenovo Y50 Notebook I5-4200H and am generally very happy. I have one small query. My model was advertised as having a 1000gb traditional hard drive with 8gb SSD.

I assumed the SSD was to run the OS (Windows 8.1) off, but out of the box Windows is installed on the normal hard drive, and the SSD is in fact 24.9gb (and empty bar McAfee).

Is this an error or is there some kind of logic behind the decision? If not to run the OS, why bother with the small additional SSD? Is it viable / advisable / a good idea to reinstall windows onto the SSD? Is this even possible as there was no reboot disk included?

Actually (at least on mine) that second partition is just a part of the regular hard drive. As far as I know (and I could be wrong) the SSD is a cache. It stores the most used files on it--this happens over a couple days--and grabs them from it as needed.

The task manager trick would have never worked since my device wont actually boot in the first place.
Actually I was wrong and it seems that I have the same case as the one you did, Lenovo tech told me that my harddrive was defective, I assumed it wasn't the problem since it was readable in the bios, Apparently It can be read and still be defective in terms of I/O for example.

Question is, what happened when u sent your to Lenovo ? and did they charge you for anything ? I'm asking because mine is more than a month old.

Works ok, if you don't give a crap about actual color accuracy. XD Even the screens suggested to replace it <here>l have around 75% gamut, which is probably adequate. Don't expect too much, though.

Oh yeah, definitely for any sort of photo editing. Don't get me wrong, the current screen is adequate, but can't hold a candle to an IPS. Besides, it's easy and relatively cheap (<$100). That thread has all the info you'll need. Good luck!

So basically you install the software on the old HD while its in and then put the new ssd in ? Also can the SSD be smaller than the current sshd? For example can i grab a 250 or 500gb and it would work? (my current HD is not very full) I mean for the cloning or whatever it is called.

so I bought the Samsung 840 EVO and I tried to use the Migration Software. It seem to work but for some reason my old HD had 2 partitions the main HD partition and a Lenovo partition that was 25gb with all the lenovo backup stuff.. How come in the new Drive, it didnt create both of these partitions? There was no options when I ran the software.. What do you guys suggest to do?

I want to make sure that the Lenovo Backup Utility stil works (when I push the little button next to the power button)

I can get the Y50 for $1150 with this configuration:

    Processor:4th Generation Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor (2.50GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
    Operating system:Windows 8.1 64
    Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB
    Memory:16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz

Is this a good price for this?

Guys I forgot to ask about one other thing. I am trying to adjust my screen but I have not found a good profile or what settings to use. I am not very good at manually doing it myself. I have the Chi Mei screen. Any suggestoins or references will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 500gb SSD and I only have one partition. In order for the backup utility to work you have to create a partition that is the same size as the original backup. There is a sticky post somewhere in the lenovo forum on how to do it exactly it seemed like too much work for me so I didn't do it haha. if you do end up doing let me know how it works out and I might give it a shot hopefully this helps you out.

Ok I did what was in that video the screen looks a lot better.. Debating if I should replace the screen but with these settings it looks a lot better than it did before. Regarding the recovery, I ended up just copying what was in the extra partition into a folder in my C: drive but I may look into what you suggested. Thanks.
