Hi, i have a problem with my Y50-70. Normal 3.5mm earbuds doesn't fit into headphone jack. Do you have the same problem?
-
Which list would that be?

Guys, i desperately need help!
I installed the intel and nvidia most recent drivers on my lenovo y50. The thing is: When i change the settings on the nvidia control panel and set them to use the dedicated graphics, they simply go back to the standard configuration. I simply cannot change anything in the control panel and my games are using the integrated card! How can i fix this? -
I have this problem too. Anyone know a solution? BTW they moved the keyboard thread on Lenovo to here:

Guys please help. I want to buy y50. I'll be using mostly Ubuntu Linux as my primary OS. So if anyone amongst you is using Ubuntu, can you please tell me what is the battery life you get on it? It will really help me. Thanks in advance
-
I just purchased a y50 and it has a UHD sticker on the front but the screen is 1080p and the refresh rate is 60hz instead of 48hz
is this a new model or am I just confused
ps. dunno why ppl complain about the screen..it's not great but its ok -
Please help me regarding battery life on Ubuntu.

I'm having an annoying problem with hitching in games.
When I come a new sound in a game everything freezing briefly before the new sound plays. Once this has happened, the sound can play without freezing.
In Amnesia, for instance, I'll be walking along. The sound of my footsteps on rock is fine. Then I walk across a new surface, triggering a new footstep sound. The game freezing for a moment, then continues. From then on both footstep sounds cause no freezing. This doesn't happen on all games, by the way.
This kind of thing frequently happens in Skyrim when I meet a new person. Everything freezes briefly, then the dude says, "Hello!"
This is my exact model:
Amazon.com : Lenovo Y50 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (59425944) Black : Computers & Accessories
Is this fixable? I don't know the exact temperature of my machine when this stuff happens, but it happens when I've just started playing a game, so it's not a temperature issue. Also, I have the stock hard drive and whatnot. I'd rather not replace it with an SSD, if possible, because I need the space for games.
Thanks.
(EDIT): Maybe I will just have to purchase an SSD. I heard someone say that this issue stopped when they replaced the stock drive. -
I was getting pauses/freezes before I switched to a SSD I got a samsung 840 evo 500gig and the problem stopped. You should get a SSD it's a good investment and the speed increase is nice plus.
-
You can try going to High Performance mode in Power Settings, then going to Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Hard Disk > Turn Off Hard Disk After... and set it to 99 minutes or something longer. That might work.

Just placed an order from Lenovo for the 59421863 model: (i7-4710HQ, 16GB Ram, GTX 860M 4GB, 512GB SSD, 1080p Non-Touch) for $1149.00. Expected to receive it on 12/1/14. Looking forward to the upgrade from my ancient HP DV5-1017nr. Thanks for all of the info discussed here on this thread.
-
Damn, I can't wait. My Y50 FHD arrives on Wednesday/Thursday. WoW is pretty much all I play at the moment ( due to the new WoD expansion
)
I've been reading through this thread and I've learned a lot about this model. I'm pretty sure I will enjoy it. I'm not really concerned about the display ( I do hope I'll get the AUO one tho ). In worst case scenario I'm going to have that replaced. I ordered it here in Romania ( in Europe ) on 21 Nov, durring a Black Friday promo and I got it at around $1100. ( i7-4710HQ 2.50GHz, Haswell, 15,6" FHD, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, nVidia GeForce GTX 860M 4GB, FreeDOS )
I'll get back to my reading now

Nobody can help me ? :x
-
WOW...That's a good deal....
-
Make sure it's not overheating...try cleaning out the vents with some air. Have you opened up the computer at all? If you have maybe make sure that all the plugs are plugged in right. I don't know about the last problem about the screen fitting the window...
-
@CnK011214
I guess I might get an SSD.
By the way, I've never replaced a laptop's hard drive or anything like that. How does one go about the process? As in, do you transfer what you've got on the old hard drive to the new one? Or should you just get Windows onto the machine another way so you don't copy any Lenovo bloatware?
Blegh, I don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks. -
That's incredible. I paid 1099 on amazon for the 8 GB RAM, 2GB GPU, 1TB SSHD version. Where did you get it?
EDIT: NM, you said Lenovo. -
Hello folks,
I bought this laptop recently and cannot understand what headset can I connect there.
I hvae Steel Series Siberia V2 headset with 3.5mm jack... but it doesnt fit. Can you tell me what headset should i buy for it so I could use skype....
Please help...
Thanks in advance. -
Huh...It's 3.5 mm but it was really hard to get in at first. You have to kinda break it in.
-
Yeah my work has a Corporate discount on top of the black friday sale. I was between the Asus G750JM and this and couldn't pass up the 512GB SSD for less than 1200 with this model. Couldn't find it anywhere less than 1399.00.
-
Can any one link to some good black friday RAM and SSD options? More deals should show up over the next few days.
Also, I've got the 2GB GPU,not the 4 GB. Will upgrading my RAM to 16 GB improve gaming performance, or would the 2 GB GPU be a bottleneck? -
The difference between 4GB and 2GB will only make a very marginal difference when using a UHD or 4k screen. 16GB ram might help a little, but the biggest performance increase is going to be an SSD.
-
Nice. I got the 4700HQ with the 4GB and 16GB RAM with just an HDD for $1k. You still got a better deal...I'd be super hard pressed to find a 512GB SSD for $150...
-
See, that confuses me. I thought that hard drives did not generally affect gaming performance that much. Considering the issues I've experienced, I don't have trouble believing that there's a difference in this case, however.
I guess I don't understand hardware as much as I should. -
I thought about getting the non-SSD model and saving the money, but not having to deal with re-formatting and installing one later was worth the extra.
I will be hooking it up to a Monitor so the screen wasn't a big deal for me being the FHD screen. I will be curious how the cooling system works with the lid closed on a cooling pad. -
Hard drive vs SSD shouldn't affect FPS really, other than there is a chance in open world games you could get stutters from loading on the fly. The difference is loading times will be longer, and on the non-gaming side an SSD makes the entire system smoother and more responsive.
-
Would anyone recommend the Y50 UHD for strictly photoshop? I have the 1080p touch model and love it and a friend needs a laptop for graphic design but doesn't have MBP money. Ideally, a 1080p screen, 16gb ram and 512gb ssd y50 config would be the best for him, but as that's only available in the non touch model, which has a terrible screen I can't recommend that. The 4k has the same specs available but I'm not sure about scaling yet.
-
Well I tried several different headset with 3,5mm combo (not combo) jacks and non of them fits till the end.....
I dont know whatäs going on
and itäs not possible to break it in....
Is there are any official specs of this laptop? -
summeray likes this.
-
i have the model with 1gb sshd, and I've been getting stuttering in World of Warcraft when sshd reach 100% disk usage. How can i prevent the stutter spikes?
-
Change the sshd for SSD or regular HDD. It seems that sshd Lenovo put in the Y50 has very aggressive power-saving policies, causing the drive to continuously start/stop spinning. I use the sshd as an external driver and if I watch a video from it I get stuttering and I can hear the drive spin up every 2-5min.
-
thx
it worked
I was just a bit afraid to put to much power
-
Hey guys, i seriously need this - Can anyone of you post a VERY VERY VERY VERY DETAILED!!! Down-Right corner of the laptop (with a closed lid) i think.. I am not sure, but i might have cracked it - or is it by the manufacturer, it looks like a crack but is also as if intentional from the manufacturer, please send them quick, remember to take it from more angles - thanks, ryzz
-
It really just improves loading times and the stuttering when entering new areas, etc. Having 16GB RAM won't help in most games, but it makes a bigger difference when video editing. Same with 2 vs 4 GB VRAM--just helps with higher resolutions, but at that point an 860m isn't going to be enough power for much anyway.
-
Guys, i dont want did over 300pages, so i ask here,
I bought Y50 with Intel Wireless Card AC-3160 and have bad wifi range and a lot of wifi rapture and router and modem is ok, on y580 everythings run smooth,
Is a way to repair it ? < Yes I read about trouble with Wireless card in y50

I recently bought a SSD and i plan on switching from the HDD that i have.
I dont wish to install win 8 again, and i want to refresh the install, would the nvidia driver issue present itself again?
i will be following this guide:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/389149/how-to-restore-a-windows-8-laptop-or-pc-to-factory-settings
also what is the difference between "Just remove my files" or "Clean the drive fully".
just removes my files will erase everything, games, programs etc?
the what would" clean the drive fully" do? -
bro, I just sent mine in yesterday for repairs after I fried the motherboard, 2 weeks until I get it back lol
