I want to make you aware of the big hinge problem that a lot of people experience. If you notice that your lid makes a squeking sound, you probably will get the same experience as me and the people that posted in linked thred: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...roken-hinge-problem-buyer-beware/td-p/1825179

Gpu temps are around 72 max now. And quiethdd is not a proper solution as it decreases the life of the hdd.
I'm experiencing micro stutters after few minute of gameplay. Things seem to be fine now. I deleted all the lenovo bloat and I'm using throttlestop alongwith XUT undervolting. -
Oh.
Mine is making that kind of noise from day one, without any other issue.
So laptop are not supposed to make that kind of noise when closing screen etc ?
Was yours a Touch Y50 ? Mine is a non touch one. -
With ThrottleStop running, my temps in Far Cry 3 on Ultra peak at 90 C. Is this abnormal or problematic?
I don't know how long it stays at 90 because the game crashes if I alt-tab out, but 90 is the peak. -
I had that problem too, it is definitely confirmed to be caused from the crappy SSHD. I replaced it with a Samsung Evo 840 SSD and all my games run flawlessly now. I even run all my steam games from an external HDD ($60 1TB from Western Digital) and it has no stutter at all. Hope this helps, get that SSHD replaced immediately and you will get way better gaming performance. Cheers
-
Cheers I'll most def get an samsung evo then.
-
And my hinge is making most of the noise only after that the pc had time to warm up. If i open it and close it when it's off and " cold", the noise is very little.
-
Samsung 840 Evo is junk, Samsung still haven't properly fixed the slowdown issues that are affecting them.
Get a different SSD. -
I used throttlestop on this laptop too, and i had temps like 86/90 degree too. I wasn't confortable with that because i think it's really too hot, so i stopped using it. For me 90 degree is problematic on the long run, yes.
As for my hinge, i tested that when the computer is off and had time to cool down, the hinge doesn't make the noise. That's weird. -
Anybody running windows 7 have trouble getting their card reader recognized? I've installed the driver from the lenovo website (49ca01w7), But it wont recognize. I have tried my card in another computer so i know the card and adapter work.
Anybody know what i can do? Thanks.
EDIT: also, My fn+ F5(airplane mode) and fn+f6(touchpad on/off) don't seem to work. The fn works to change the volume and keyboard brightness. But it can't seem to get these two to work. fn+f1 works to put the system to sleep. But not f5 and f6. Any ideas?Last edited: Mar 2, 2015 -
I wouldn't say that they're junk. If you get them at a decent price, they're awesome. I haven't had any slowdown whatsoever. Besides, that problem is only occurring after a few years, at which point you should be upgrading anyway.
That being said, the prices of the 850 EVO are almost the same, so I would just go for that and skip the hassle. You get a 5 year warranty as well. -
Nope they are junk, and its a common consensus on this forum.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ll-vulnerable-to-read-speed-slowdowns.770920/ -
To each their own...If I ever have a big problem with it, I'll just use the warranty. It was only a hundred bucks for me--not a huge investment. To be fair, I'll probably go with the 850 Pro (or at that point maybe the 860 Pro) to avoid the problem altogether.

Hi Guys,
I just bought a new Y50 with 256gb sss and free DOS.
i have some trouble with installing Windows 7 on UEFI.. Question: I have partition on the ssd that was already there..Its 1000mb Fat32 System Partition..
Is this normal ?? Or is it maybe a sign that this notebook is already used??
thanks for help
MM
p.s. Sorry if there are a few mistakes but i am from germany and english isnt my mother language
-
I doubt it's already used. Many times there's an image that they clone to drives at the factory. That may be the recovery partition.
Here's a link with a few guides on Win 7 UEFI guides.

Calling them junk is an oversimplification. A simple and easy to understand wrong answer to a complex question.Ramzay likes this.

anyone has an idea when the new panels/screens come out in europe?
EDIT: reason i'm asking is because i'm seeing a load of promo's on the current Y50's, ranging from 20-30%...Last edited: Mar 8, 2015 -
I'm having a problem with video playback it seems to primarily be with streaming video. When I stream video the picture will be choppy at times. Anyone know how to smooth it out besides using the GTX?
By the way anyone know any good settings to make the GTX work well with video editing. It seems like it is very slow even having the GTX selected. Not sure what I need to do to make the most of it but I'd like. I'm realizing this wasn't the best GPU for editing. Should have got a quadro! -
If you're using OBS for streaming, try Nvidia NVENC codec, it works really nice for me.
-
My y50-70 arrived. I have the new 1920x1080 IPS screen they offered as the refresh comes in. Its quite nice. Colors look good, viewing angles look good. Its the non-touch version.
I'm a little confused by the fans in the bottom. I took the bottom cover off (so many screws) to replace the HD with an SSD, and It looks to me like the exhaust vents in the back are completely blocked by the metal glued to the vents.
Are you getting airflow out of those exhaust vents, at all? -
I don't understand what you said haha
-
Well, It's here. They updated to the 960M. If you're looking at a Y50, now's the time to buy. The one with model number 59440654 is the one you want. 960M, 4720, 16GB RAM and an IPS screen for $1079. That's less than the original base model...
-
Hey all. Haven't been around for a while and I was hoping there was a resolution that has come up for my problem. Its been over 60 pages since I've posted so I apologize if it has been solved already and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could restate what the answer is if it has come up. Anyway, here's the problem: I have the 3160 card (AKA the really crappy one) and while playing games like League of Legends my ping sporadically spikes up to 200-400 and then drops down a few seconds later. I remember someone saying the issue came from the card constantly scanning for networks even when connected, but said problem was with the 7260 not 3160. If there's some kind of solution to this it would be great if you guys could let me know. Besides that I love my y50 still and I'm glad i chose to stick with it.
-
Anybody in Canada know which model comes with the IPS display?
-
Another user posted somewhere how they unblocked those vents and greatly reduced their temps.
-
After calibrating my stock Chi Mei screen.
Colors are very very accurate, the screen does about %75 of sRGB which is not bad for a TN panel.
I don't see why people say that the screen is very bad, yes its not excellent but its average at least. -
Does Lenovo Y50 also have the small red and blue dots on the screen like the Toshiba p55t?
Also is it true that Toshiba more good for photo and video editing? That's what I read but the tiny dots on the screen of the Toshiba p55t always makes it appear as if one just wiped off some water from the screen. I noticed that Toshiba seems to be pretty noisy. The fan keeps spurting on and off too frequently unlike other laptops that has more even sound.
What are some strong points and weak points of the 4k screen laptops compared to each other? Toshiba p55t, Lenovo Y50, and Asus G501, Dell Inspiron 15 7000, Aspire V Nitro Black Edition?Last edited: Mar 14, 2015 -
Currently none. It usually takes awhile for the new models to appear on the Canadian store.

can anyone address the following topic?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/lenovo-y50-70-59440654-hinge-fan-issue.773002/ -
How does the screen of Acer Aspire compare to Lenovo Y50?
-
Anyone update to the new bios 2.01? There's an option for enabling/disabling nVidia gps "gpu perfomance scale". Anyone know what that might be?
-
Random guess: Perhaps it disables Nvidia GPU Boost?
-
How can I adjust audio settings on my Y50?I'm not satisfied with the sound because I think bass is very high!My laptop didn't come with windows pre-installed so I don't have any audio manager software.Couldn't do anything with Realtek either.
-
Download & install the realtek drivers from Lenovo's support page for the Y50. Then change EQ settings with Dolby Home Theatre.
-
I calibrated the screen using i1 pro and dispcal GUI.
set your colors in the Intel Control Panel set the green contrast to 47 and the blue to 43.
ICC profile is attached, apply it.
Remember every screen is a little different.Attached Files:

Sucks, I have the AUO panel...I'd love to find someone who can professionally calibrate it...
-
Would you be kind enough and share a screenshot with us? Is the screen matte or glossy?
-
BIOS v2.01 is up
According to members and staff on the Lenovo forum its supposed to fix the fan-clicking issue.
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...n-pulsating-and-clicking/td-p/1764715/page/40 -
Tested?

I haven't tested it yet but a bunch of people on the Lenovo forum did and confirmed. Check the link I posted for further info and feedback

Hi guys
In new drivers from nvidia which allows oc can you overclocking 860m to level 960m? This is probably the same cards and i think vbios from 960m can match to 860m. What do you think about this? -
Yes, the 960m is a mild overclock on the 860m and no other changes. So if you OC the 860m it will become ostensibly a 960m.
-
Ok, thanks. I would like to purchase y50 but one thing stops me, thats problems with hinges in this laptop. I mean this:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-...roken-hinge-problem-buyer-beware/td-p/1825179
I don't want to have cracks near this hinges after 10 days of use. What do you think? -
what driver version of the update ?? 347.52?? they put back OC features of Maxwell mobile ?? :-?

I updated my BIOS about a week ago, and since doing so my computer has hard-crashed twice. First time I was playing Mass Effect 3, and the computer blue-screened. Second time just happened now - I walked away from the computer and came back, the Windows taskbar was gone and I got a message from TrueCrypt stating it couldn't tell which drive letters were in use. I tried to ctrl-alt-del but nothing happened, and after about 20 seconds the computer rebooted itself.
After rebooting I got a BIOS message saying that no boot devices were available...obviously that scared the crap out of me as I thought my SSD (which is still basically new) died. So I shut the computer down entirely, and after turning it on again it booted up fine.
I haven't changed anything else on the computer lately, so I'm pretty sure that this new BIOS is the culprit. I think I'm going to try downgrading the BIOS if I can, as this is a pretty serious issue that's cropped up. This will without a doubt be the last Lenovo laptop I ever buy, the problems I've had with this thing are too many to count. -
I have no issues with the latest BIOS (V2.01).
-
We need a gtx 965m on lenovo.
-
Well, Lenovo's officially marketing "The New Y50" which is the Y50 updated with the 4720 (No 5th gen? Weird, since Y40 has 5th gen...), 960M, and an IPS screen.
I'm now happy with my Y50 purchase, because the 860M will now last for an entire extra generation, seeming that the 960M is literally the exact same as the 860M...(#maxwellbeforeitwascool) -
there is no quad core broadwell chips to put in the y50 hence no 5th gen CPU. You will have to wait for skylake.
