Yeah, I looked that up later and found out. So from what I understand there's not going to be ANY quad Broadwell chips?
-
Far Cry 4 is 50% off on Amazon but some of the videos I've seen of it running on the Y50 are a little troubling. All ultra settings clearly won't work.
Has anyone found settings that keep things at 30-ish fps while still looking good? I've got the 8GB and 2GB GPU Y50. -
This works very well. Same hardware on these machines.
http://rog.asus.com/386112014/g-ser...-g771jm-and-g551jm-gtx-860m-gaming-notebooks/ -
It's a rumor but yes. Broadwell was very very late to market and they're apparently just skipping quad core broadwell and jumping to skylake.
-
No, they are not. They even released info on some cpu recently, like i7-5775C and i7-5675C with Iris Pro 6200. Launching in Q2 2015.
C is the new code for unlocked, like the old K. -
Can you show this? i'm legitimately curious because the last news i heard was they were skipping quad core broadwells.
-
Looks pretty good, but I'm obsessed with motion blur and godrays. I'll have to find a way to work them in.
-
It is a fact that the hinges are bad. I just got my back after repair. The hinges seems to work smoother after that.
-
Just Google one of the CPUs, like i7 5775C, and you get tons of results.
I read it on a Swedish site, but lots of other serious sites all over the world are saying the same thing.
Second site I visit often that I read it on was Hexus.
http://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/81883-first-broadwell-desktop-cpus-intel-core-i7-5775c-i5-5675c/
This is the desktop versions, but they are also bringing out laptop versions ofcourse. I can try to find that info again aswell.
EDIT:
Link to laptop CPUs on this forum, then just Google for more.

I'm able to run on Very High pretty decently. I usually keep it at High though. I haven't messed with the manual settings much yet...
-
Do you have normal version y50 without touch? Did you pay for repair this hinges?
-
I have the nontouch one. I did not pay for the repair. It would be against swedish costomer law.
-
Of all times to have battery issues, this happens right when I go out of town for something important...
I noticed that my battery is always stuck at 41%. No, this is not conservation mode. Mousing over power options displays "Plugged in, Charging" but nothing ever charges. I unplugged the laptop and BAM! Everything shuts down.
So did my battery just die? Thing is, it worked fine literally a few hours ago. That said, I've been lugging it around two flights. Maybe I was careless? UGH
Also, could I get the battery replaced for free under warranty?Last edited: Mar 26, 2015 -
Is it only for me or the new BIOS fixed the 65C throttling? It's running at 3.2 GHZ at 82C without throttlestop
-
Oh, the there is a new bios? Lenovo update doesn't say anything, so guess I better check the homepage.
Would prefer if I wouldn't have to run throttlestop, so gonna check this out right away! -
IPS panel model number for the 2015 version of the Lenovo Y50 is LG LP156WF4-SPL1.
Its rated at only 220cd/m which is dim for outdoor use.
-
Nope, same as before.
Fyi new Nvidia driver from Lenovo is up, dated 3/31/2015 -
Pretty sure I'm using a normal Nvidia driver. Didn't know there was a special one. What's the difference?
Edit:
I agree about the throttling, still need throttlestop if you want to max things out, not sure if the new bios did much at all there. -
Every vendor release their own driver which in theory is optimized specifically for that model/brand while the one from NVidia is generic. In this case I assume the supposed optimization is Optimus/Touch related stuff but I have no idea...
-
I looked inside and unplugged the battery and plugged it in a few minutes later. Now it works without the adapter and it charges normally.
See, I don't understand this stuff well enough to have any idea why that fixed it. I'm happy though. -
I've been out of the loop and off the forum for a while... sorry if this has been addressed lately as I haven't seen any recent posts.
Has the yellow / mustard color been corrected?
I've seen for the Yoga 2 Pro there's an Energy Management driver update that corrects the yellow colors:
"This version of Energy Management (EM1.0.1.51 )modified panel mode of power saving mode and stable mode into high color to solve the yellow color issue."
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/pro...a-series/yoga-2-pro-lenovo/downloads/DS038865
And I see there's an Energy Management driver update for the Y50-70:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/pro...0-70-touch-notebook-lenovo/downloads/DS100275
But it doesn't give any details about what it fixes.
Has anyone tried? -
No, it doesn't fix it. The 4k screen is also still locked to 48FPS, even though a lot of games can run at 60+FPS in 1080p (I used fraps).Last edited: Apr 7, 2015

Guys please I have question for owners Lenovo Y50-70/Y70-70.
I'm thinking about buying non touch Y50-70.
This problem with hinges (and fan) have only TOUCH versions or NON TOUCH versions too please? -
I don't have any problem with the fan or hinge. Non touch version.
-
And I don't have any problems with the hinge or fan. Touch version.
-
Have this laptop for 5 months now, no problems at all, absolutely in love with it. I commute alot with it too, it's in my bag 10 hours of the day.
-
Hi guys, My Y50 is in the mail. Pretty good deal here in Canada $899 for a base model. A system with the same specs from any other manufacturer starts at $1250 here.
I found an EVO 256 for $125 too! Looks like a really nice laptop and I really like Lenovo keyboards.
Have many of you reverted to Win7 or do you like win8? -
Hey guys... So yeah my Y50 screws are totally stripped. It is completely round now. Any ideas on how to solve the problem? It's the middle screw and top left one. Thanks in advance. (I tried using super glue and rubber band, nothing works, I think it's quite tight, I have replacement screws so I want to get rid of those two screws and never see those again)
-
you tried gluing a screw driver head onto the screw and it didn't work?
you could try using a thin knife or center punch to etch a straight line for a flat head.
have you ever removed those screws before? i've noticed some blue stuff on the screws (some kind of glue or sealant?) that might prevent the screws from turning easily. applying heat may help. read up on how to use a heat gun or hair dryer before tackling. -
I found a pretty good deal for a Y50 that fitted me quite perfectly.
It is a y50-70 with the IPS panel, 256 gb SSD, 960m and i7-4720.
At fist I tried some World of Tanks on it at 1920*1080 and was surprised how often it throttled. So I downloaded Prime95 and Furmark and ran them independently.
These are the results:
Should I be worried that my CPU reaches 100 degrees while stress testing (both furmark and prime)? Is this normal for this laptop? GPU at 75 furmark seems OK though.
The results are quite far from the results I can see in the review I read before purchasing it ( http://laptopmedia.com/review/lenov...down-powerhouse-got-even-better/#temperatures )
Should I try and send it back and get a new one to see if the temperatures are better?
edit: I sent it back and got it replaced, new one has much better temperaturesLast edited: May 6, 2015 -
I have the no touch. Just repaired the hinges. The screws breaks the plastic casing. Construction fault.Last edited: Apr 11, 2015

I'm interested in getting a Y50 for college/gaming but I have two questions I would like answered first.
- Is the uhd version good in terms of scaling with many menus and programs? Can you read the text well enough? Can you set it so that the normal resolution is 1920x1080 to avoid these issues?
- Secondly, I have not seen a single review or mention of anyone using the touch screen for note taking. Does it work whatsoever with OneNote or another similar program? I have a capacitive stylus and would preferably like a video of someone writing in OneNote with a stylus using the Y50.
-
anyone knows when the new graphics card is hitting the european markets? I'm kinda sold on getting the lenovo y50 but i want the updated screen and graphics card.
Any europeans around here? I see on amazon.fr that they only offer 1 year of warrenty, which I believe is in breach with EU consumer law... It's cheaper on amazon.fr and amazon.de so I want to buy from those sites but i want the 2 years warrenty
Still doubting between the ultra high res or just 1920x1080. -
In spain we already have models with i7 4720 and gtx960 but it is not clear if the fullhd version has the ips panel, it does not say anything so i am guessing it is still the tn panel...
Have asked lenovo but they have been unable to clarify which display or when will the ips panel arrive to spain...

Like really, i don't get lenovo's roll out tactic. The dutch shop offers the updated gtx960 but only with i5, TN panel and 8gb ram. No option to get an ssd... Kinda forces me to find a retailer in germany and ask him if he can either put a qwerty or azerty keyboard on my laptop... Germany gives the option to get 16gb, IPS panel (according to the description atleast), ssd options, i7... just no gtx960 lol
I wish i could change the keyboard myself but i ahve no idea where i can buy factory keyboards for the lenovo. It seems rather simple from what i saw online to remove the keyboard -
chiclet keyboard. unless the keys on the replacement keyboard are identical in size, you'll also have to replace the top cover of your laptop as well.
-
GTX960M is just 860M rebranded. I think it's not worthy to upgrade
-
Hey guys,
I'm thinking of ordering this laptop in the US. (delivery to cleveland specifically). I've heard Lenovo is notorious for sloppy delivery schedules. How many days will it likely take for me to receive it? -
I took me exactly 2 week after ordered it on Lenovo website. 24/03 to 6/4/2015.
BTW, I live in CA.itsygeek likes this. -
Any of you guys tried GTA V on your Y50 yet? I'm curious how good is it going to run. I have i5 version, btw. So please post yours if you tried it.
-
Guys, maybe you can help me choosing the Y50, i have decided to buy one, now i need the decide with configuration. This is whay i have found available in my region:
FullHD 4720 HQ, 8 Gb RAM, 1Tb 5200 RPM, GTX 860 2Gb: 999 € in Lenovo website. Think it is TN panel, this is the only one with the new processor
FullHD 4710 HQ, 8 Gb RAM, 1Tb 5200 RPM, GTX 860 2Gb: GT883 € in another Lenovo shop. Is the processor worth the 100 €?
FullHD 4710 HQ, 12 Gb RAM, 1Tb 5200 RPM + 8Gb SSD, GTX 860 4Gb: 1200 € lambda-tek
FullHD 4710 HQ,8 Gb RAM, 1Tb 7200 RPM, GTX 860 4Gb: 1050 € in Fnac
thanks in advance -
I'd go for the 4GB GTX860 version. But try to figure out if any of those comes with an IPS.
Oh by the way the HDD sucks IMO so you better consider an SSD.
Fnac...are you in France or Spain? Did you check Amazon? -
I'm in spain, haven't found any model here with ips screen or ssd so im thinking in picking the cheapest and upgrade to ssd and maybe 8 extra gb of ram.
Paying 170€ more for 4gb vram instead of 2 and a 7200 rpm hdd instead of a 5200rpm is like too much isnt it?
Also, haven't found anything interesting in amazon, similar model than the second i posted but slighlty more expensive
I'm confused

like there is no upside to getting a gtx960M? Interesting... I guess I can just look for the IPS panel then
-
I spent quite a lot of time in Spain...unfortunately the only good store I know there is pccomponentes.com but for some reason they don't offer the Y50.
By the way that CPU - 4720HQ - wasn't an option with the first models so that might mean its from the refreshed versions which might mean IPS panel. I would contact and ask Lenovo..
Fyi (as far as I know) the IPS offered in some newer versions of the Y50 is an LG one while the old bad TN panels are AUO and ChiMeiBorjman likes this. -
Yep! I also checked pccomponentes ^^
As you say, when i saw te new processor I called to ask about the screen but the guy didn't have a clue... He was from sales department and told me that he couldnt put me in contact with the technical deppartment because they would ask for the "numero de pedido" ( i dont know how do you call it in english, it is the number Associated to a purchase ) and since i hadn't made any purchase, they wouldn't talk to me.... Ridiculous. I 'll call tomorrow again, but given the extrange way lenovo does things, i bet it is the TN display. In the US site it is clearly included in the descritionsthat the model comes with IPS panel.
Thanksfor your time! -
Most stores in Spain used to offer 15-30 days no questions asked return policy. No idea if they still offer this but you might consider it assuming Lenovo offers such policy. That way you could check the laptop out and if its not the one you want return it and ask for a refund.
-
That is agood point. But i've read that they sooo slow with the deliveries... It can be a long process... Ill think about it
-
Hey,
I just picked up a Lenovo Y50 new w. IPS display for about $900 luckily (I'll update my sig soon). However there are 2 small things that I was wondering:
1. There are times where my computer doesn't wake from sleep via. lifting the lid. I believe this is when it either auto sleeps or when I press the power button for sleep.
2. When 1 happens, whenever I press any key on my keyboard it wakes the computer up from sleep. This only happens with the keyboard and not the touchpad or the OneKey button. I noticed this when I tried cleaning the keyboard by putting the computer to sleep. I updated the BIOS so I'm not sure why this is happening.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
