are you sure it goes into sleep mode, or hibernation? check your power options.

It's not hibernating. It goes straight to the desktop where I left off the second it wakes + no Lenovo boot screen

I have Lenovo Y50, and there are many concerns I want to take care of, such as making sure the computer doesn't overheat and making sure it's clean and can perform as efficiently as possible. I want to clean out the dust in my computer, but I'm nervous about doing it myself, and I don't really want to pay to have someone else clean it for me.
I've been searching around, and I found this thread that intrigued me: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/lenovo-y50-cooling-mod-10c.772029/
I was wondering just how effective it was for the laptop to have a vent on the bottom, where air won't even be able to filter since it's going to be on a flat surface, but seeing this thread has me curious. Would doing as suggested here help filter air and dust, or would you not recommend it?
There is also something else on my mind... My computer works fine. It doesn't take too long to start up, it doesn't lag (or if it does, it's not for long), and it's not using too much memory. If it's performing fine as it is now, is it necessary for me to go to such great lengths to keep it that way?
Sorry if this post seems contradictory... -
No, as long as it works fine. BTW after every 6 months of using it you should tear it down and clean dust. Also you can change thermal paste
-
Does anyone know when Canada will be getting the updated Y50s? My current computer seems seconds away from death and the Y50 is my top choice to replace it, but with shipping times I don't think I can wait much longer and may have to look elsewhere.

just get the old one next time it hits $799 and grab an IPS panel for DIY install.

Any noticeable framerate drops ? -
Not my video and I watched just a bit of it so no idea.

Quick question:how much does the backlit keyboard affect battery life? I see reviews mentioning they get upwards of about 4 1/2 hours with the display turned down, however none say if that's with the backlight turned down or off.
-
well mine have bit stuttering, slow hdd perhaps.. 65gb gta v is a pain for it
-
Considering they're just a few LED's under the keys, I doubt it effects it much at all. LED's don't use much power.
-
My Y50 reaches 96c max temperature when playing GTA V with the throttlestop multiplier set to 31 T. Is this normal? I used to get 85c max in Far Cry 4 with the multiplier set to 30 T. I've cleaned the laptop just a few days ago and I use a cooling pad as well. The GPU temperature is normal at max 80c.
Edit: Forgot to mention I've also undervolted the CPU in the Intel XTU utility by -40 mv. -
Hi. I am interested in Lenovo Y50-70 59-439796.

I am sorry about the language of this site, but unfortunately it is only in greek language.
So, this one has an 15.6" Ultra HD TFT 3840 x 2160 screen.
My question is about the UHD screen. Do you know if it is the same bad as the FHD or better? -
UHD is an IPS screen. has better viewing angles, but i think it's been mentioned that the colours are a bit off, but not too bad. UHD screen has a refresh rate of 48Hz and not recommended for gaming. it'd still be fine for movies though eg. the hobbit would still play at 48fpsLast edited: Apr 19, 2015

Yes, but I made a research about "59-439796" serial number of Y50-70 and many sites have it as Ultra HD TFT 3840 x 2160 screen. That's why I am asking here, because I knew there was a UHD IPS screen. I didn't know about UHD TFT. But you can see if you search it, there are a lot of sites sell it with UHD TFT.
-
TFT is the general technology. IPS is a sub-category, which the UHD is. If the site said TN then that is the bad one.
One thing to keep in mind with the UHD, is that yellows are mustardy. Also the one I tried out had bad black levels and yellowy whites. -
You are getting way more than me.
Although I have i5 version and I repasted my laptop yesterday, my temps do not go above 90C (usually hovers around 85C) on CPU (Throttlestop on 35T multiplier locked) and GPU goes around 70C.
I recommend to repaste your laptop, it is extremely easy to do on this laptop, because Lenovo made it very service friendly.
Only thing to remove are bottom cover and then heatsink itself.KeiDash likes this. -
Huh I guess I'll try repasting, I've just ordered Arctic Silver Ceramique 2. Which method would you recommend applying the thermal paste, pea drop, line or just spread it with a card? Thanks for your reply.
-
I used to spread it, but it does not matter in the end at all.
Now I do pea drop on GPU and line on CPU, then put heatsink on and screw it down, nothing more, nothing less. I got basically the same result as with the spread (kinda annoying) method.
I repaste every half a year or so, so applying method does not matter.
Just make sure heatsink and CPU/GPU dies are completely clean.
I use isopropyl alcohol to clean it up.KeiDash likes this. -
Guys, is OC posible on 350.12?
Becouse after they disable OC im still running on 344.75... -
You might want to follow that thread: Nvidia clockblock: vBIOS (unblocked in 347.88, reblocked in 350.12)

Hey guys. I just ordered a Y50 from the outlet on one of those "you must stalk the outlet" buys. I am a bit nervous because it says it has an IPS display, i7-4720HQ, and a GTX 860m. Did lenovo make this configuration? I am hoping it actually has a halfway decent IPS display because the TN panels are garbage. The outlet is known to be off on specs, but I am hoping I got at least what was mentioned... Id be thrilled if I got the 960m. Off to read 100+ pages of this thread
-
Yep. I'm using 2015 edition with IPS display and GTX860M
-
I think I read that about 20 pages back
How is the screen quality?
-
Acceptable for an IPS display. Viewing angle is good but the color is not good as my old Vaio Duo 11
-
I cleaned up the thermal paste and applied Ceramique 2, got a 5C reduction in CPU and 6C reduction in GPU temps, and this is before the 30 hour burn-in. Thanks for your help.DAXTER619 likes this.

Hey guys, Quick question. When i hit Fn+F3, it brings up the display options as it should, most Fn commands work fine. But the Fn+F6 combo for disabling the touchpad doesn't work. I switch to a mouse often, so i'd like to easily disable the touchpad. as it stands i have to go into mouse properties and disable the hardware each time.
Any reason why that one specifically doesn't work?
Running A clean install of Windows 7 if that changes things. According my mouse properties i have Synaptics touchpad V8.1 -
^^^^Working fine over here, W7 Pro x64, Synaptics. Maybe the problem is you're not running the Synaptics driver provided from Lenovo. I do, and the latest driver version is 17.0. Not sure what that V8.1 means you put in your post..?
Edit: Right, I think I saw what you mean. Apparently I have "Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 on SMB port". -
Has anyone had issues with Optimus not working? I have to manually set games to use dedicated graphics and it's honestly annoying to keep doing. On the bright side I'm surprised the frame rate I was getting with Integrated Graphics.
-
Am I the only one here can not turn off secure boot on BIOS v2.01?
-
Anyone? I updated the Gefore Ready Drivers to 350 version
-
what game is it? or u should try to reinstall the nvidia graphic driver, choose custom installation(advance)... perform clean installation..
u should give it a try.... -
So I think I ****ed up. I uninstalled the GTX860M through Device Manager because I was trying to install some new drivers and now I can't get it back in device manager and there's no system restore points....
Any help? -
It's a bit obvious, but did you go on nvidias/lenovos website and reinstall the driver? LOL, there should be generic drivers that make the 860m pop up on manager though.
-
How do I uninstall Microsoft OneDrive? I don't use it but there's a service that's always running and I want it gone. It doesn't show up in the list of stuff to uninstall in "uninstall a program."

Dear Heibk201, sorry for off-topic, but you might be the only one who can help me
I have this same kind of problem : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...0-Issues-Windows-7-driver-issues/td-p/1624344
Here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/y50-thread.741832/page-476 you give a great solution to the problem, however, when i click on https://mega.co.nz/#!BtUQxY6b!OsJDBZ_W56sV6iQ_iuhUj_ID4klCMQ5UEyUSY1eNEAI it says that the file is no longer available.
The thread is extremely long, maybe theres another solution Im not aware of? Could you please be so kind to help me out. Thank you -
right now you don't need that, just download the latest driver from nvidia and it should install w/ no problem
and make sure you also updated your intel graphics driver -

Hi, to all Y50 owners!
I bought a Y50-70 Touch last week. I replaced the WD 1TB Black hybrid drive with a Crucial M500 240GB SSD.
The problem is that when I enable AHCI for optimum performance Windows 8 installation works very slow and does not complete. It stops right after formatting the hard drive.
I have the latest Y50 bios and I upgraded my SSD firmware. I tried formatting the hard drive to NTFS using linux and after that try to install Windows 8. Same results. I also tried installing Windows 7 in AHCI mode, and even thou the installation completes, the computer is utterly slow!! Like constant lockups, stutter, etc. (that's before and after installing Intel Chipset Drivers).
If I enable "Compatible" (instead of AHCI), the Windows 8 installation goes smooth without any problem and de pc works OK, but obviously the performance of my SSD is not great.
Do you have any recommendations? Is this a known problem? Maybe incompatibility with my SSD?
Thanks! -
Anyone undervolted this laptop and had any good results with temperatures?
-
The CPU throttle is fixed with Throttlestop, but has anyone else noticed the GPU throttles at 65c as well? I was running MSI afterburner's stress test and noticed the FPS dropping when the GPU reached 65c and then I checked the clocks and they kept fluctuating. Boost clocks only applied at the beginning and then turned off entirely.
None of the reviews for this laptop mentioned all these cooling and throttling issues.Last edited: May 6, 2015 -
KeiDash: I don't have the same experience. From what I remember, GPU definitely did not throttle under 80C.
-
Hello, everyone.
I bought a Y50(i5-4200H, GTX 860M 2GB) in December 2014. I'm starting to have issues with it now. I can't play any modern games without my CPU hitting very high temperatures (90-95 degrees). It reaches these high temperatures within the first 10 minutes. I can't even play The Witcher 2 on the LOWEST settings, not even on 720p. The exhaust vent gets extremely hot to touch, I'm worried the plastic there will melt! Even Dota 2, which I've never had any problems playing on Ultra settings two months ago, has been causing my CPU to heat up to 90 degrees. This makes me very sad. My first gaming rig (I used to play on a desktop that had P4 and Radeon Xpress 200M until this arrived) and there's already something wrong with it. I've tried everything I know and have been suggested to. I have an AC and keep the room temperature at around 26 degrees, I prop the laptop up on two books such that the intake vents are completely open and have a lot of room to breathe, I even opened the back panel to clean the intake vents and the fans, only to find out there was in fact very little dust (pretty much what I expected, it was new after all, and I keep my room rather clean). Now the only thing I haven't yet tried is to change the thermal compound. I don't think it's the thermal compound that's the problem because it's only been 5 months!
So please, I need someone's help. I'd really appreciate it. -
Reinstall windows??? Have you try this?
-
Thank you for your quick reply.
I would try, but what is your reasoning for that? Does Windows have an effect on the temperatures? If yes, why did it start happening only recently, like 2 months ago?
