I've seen this video, but what grounding procedures do I need to take? (I don't have the wrist band) Also, do I need to take out the battery? And if so, how?
-
-
Send it in for a replacement. I will say I've used many laptops for a long, long time but never had a battery outright die.
-
The question is, will the 4k ips panel fit in this base model?
-
Technically it should be a perfect fit.

That's what i'm thinking, which down the line the ips screens should be available separately anyway. i ordered the base model literally like the day before the 4k ips became officially announced...
-
There are other better panels too that would fit the Y50 if 4K isn't really your thing.
There is one from AUO retailing for less than a 100 bucks, heard good reviews

How do i find out what panels will fit this notebook?
-
It's not so much about the battery dying as it is about it no longer holding its charge.
-
Is the stock HDD manageable?
If not, I can probably only afford a 120 GB SSD at the moment, would you say it's worth it to replace the HDD with that for the OS/boot-up or would I be better off saving for a larger SSD?
Also, the battery is non-removable? Would keeping it plugged in for long periods of time slowly kill it then? -

Hey guys I have been conflicting comments about the audio and WiFi so here's the questions I have.
Do you have problems with Wi-Fi referring to the Lenovo models with (Intel AC 3160) ? How do you fix it?
Do you have white noise with the audio? Is it really annoying and usable and how do you fix it thanks? -
I have the Y50 with matte screen, 16 gb ram, 4gb videocard, 1 tb hdd (from Klick online). I've read the poor screen review but TBH I don't think it's too bad..people who have seen it actually commented on how nice the screen is. The viewing angle is pretty bad though but it's not the biggest problem (just adjust the screen).
I'm really happy with the computer in general: the build quality is really nice and it feels like a premium computer, especially with the rubberised build. The keyboard is pretty good but sometimes Ill press a key but it doesnt get registered, maybe I just haven't gotten used to it coming from a mechanical keyboard. I have not noticed any problems with the wifi card.
I have noticed some weird stuff with the audio: Sometimes I will be watching something on youtube or whatever and suddenly the volume for that specific clip will go down even though everything is maxed. If I f5 then it goes back up...weird. Also sometimes I hear slight crackles/static noise, but I have not noticed any white noise.
The computer runs VERY cool and quiet, even when gaming. Coming from a Macbook pro 15 early 2011 with severe heating problems this is a blessing.
I have so far only ran dota 2 and Watchdogs, both run really well (dota on max no problems, watchdogs is fine on max but I run it on high for a bit better fps). However I have noticed that sometimes when Im driving a car in watchdogs there will be slight freezes for like a millisecond, but this is barely noticeable. Is this the frame skipping thing people have been talking about? I did update to the newest Nvidea drivers -
In regards to the audio randomly turning down:

I had a chat with a sales rep, and they said it came with the English keyboard. But I'm not convinced, and since it's the weekend, I was probably talking with somebody from a call centre in India. So I'll check again tomorrow during normal office hours. It's a valid question, because unlike certain other laptop brands, the Y50 looks like you can't change the keyboard - you're stuck with whatever it is they ship.
Certain Dell laptops allow you to easily change keyboards. -
Avoid the 3160 models since 7260 is twice the performance of the 3160.
-
The 7260 is unstable. (Search for intel 7260ac problems) i would just suggest avoiding intel wirless at all.
-
Interesting. I have the 4GB 860 (16GB Ram and 512GB SSD), and Battlefield Hardline is unplayable on low settings (<15fps). Did you do anything to yours from stock? What did you do?Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

I bet either you don't have your computer set to high performance or you didn't set Battlefield with the nvidia card and instead you're using the intel card to run the game. If not, maybe update your nvidia driver.
-
I don't know how to do what you are saying. I can only find "high performance" in my display settings (it is set to high performance). How do I set Hardline to run with the Nvidia card? I have 3 other games (Titanfall, Battlefield 3 and Far Cry 3) and they run fine out-of-the-box. Nvidia experience doesn't recognize "Battlefield Hardline" for me to optimize using NVidia Experience. I've updated to the latest driver that Nvidia Experience upgrades to: 332.50.
-
ok what's with this battlefield hardline? EA is getting more and more retarded, this is just a mix between CS and GTALast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

Just pulled the trigger on the y50... god I hope I dont regret this

Hardline is is Battlefield game that has a "Closed Beta": Closed Beta Signup - Battlefield - Official EA Site

There's only been one model found with the 7260 and its the base model

Those are the only options so far for Lenovo. Which of the two Intel wireless cards would you suggest?
-
7260 is strictly better than 3160. The reason there seem to be complaints about 7260 is because most computers these days have that chip. Very few have the 3160, and the same problems that the 7260 has have also surfaced on the 3160 that's in this laptop

So...I'm an idiot. I just got my Y50 with the 512SSD. Crazy fast. Crappy display. But this is my first time with Windows 8.1 and I absolutely hate it.
I hated it so much I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 which I've done many times with other computers with no issues. I booted from my flash drive with no issues. I had to hold F2 while booting to get to the bios to set things to legacy modes.
Setup was a breeze. Lenovo has all of the drivers in Windows 7 so I thought it wouldn't be a big issue. Until the video driver wouldn't install. I though it might just be contingent on some of the other drivers...or NET framework 4.5, or a Windows update. Nothing. Nvidia Drivers won't install either. I feel like I just turned my new Y50 into a lemon. I didn't back up anything from the original state (yes, I'm an idiot).
Anyone have any ideas? I seem to be the first that has reverted to Windows 7 so I can be the guinnea pig
Kyle -
I'm having issues with the integrated card being the preferred card for all games. I can force it each time I run a game, but it resets after restarting. I did a clean reinstall of Windows 8 and have all the original drivers on it.
Anyone else having issues with it relying on the integrated card even when it shouldn't? This is all on the high powered energy mode of course. -
Add the game to your nvidia cpntrol panel under 3d settings and then set it to use the 860m only.ScubaAddict likes this.
-
That's what is continually resetting.

SneakyLittleman Notebook Enthusiast
Ahoy Y50 owners and experts...I don't want to be in Kyle's situation and I need your advice for perfect backup before I do anything stupid:
1. I would like to replace the hybrid ssd/mechanical hard drive with an SSD of my own
2. I want to preserve the hidden partition in the backup. (The hard drives aren't the same size, so I'm worried about the transition and "alignment"). I want recovery to be functionnal.
3. I'm willing throw a bit of cash at a commercial backup / cloning / partioning solution if it's safer... (I don't have anything about open-source software though ^^). I'm not sure Samsung's or Crucial's migration software would be clever enough to transfer all hidden data, but I may be wrong. Has anyone tried it?
4. I'll buy a usb 3 case or cable for the transfer / clone.
Has anyone done all this successfully? -
Anyone with Linux already?

I had this problem too...it was running on integrated gpu.

Just got off a chat with a Lenovo rep, looks like it's a bilingual keyboard. There is no US English option.
Can somebody who ordered the Y50 from Canada post a pic of the keyboard? -
Plenty of SSDs will actually come with software to clone your old drive. What you want to do is pretty easy. Put the new SSD in an enclosure, mirror the old over, swap drives and you're done. The size difference won't matter since the bigger drive is mostly empty.
-
I'm waiting for the 4K version from Klick, then I'm going to install kubuntu 14.04 on it. Looking up the individual hardware components, I'm hoping it will just work like magic.
-
It sounds like the same issue I had with cs1.6 on my old nVidia Optimus laptop.
Try the following: CS 1.6 nvidia Optimus/SLI Fix :: Counter-Strike General Discussions but adjust it for your game. -
Cool
Please let us know as soon as you get it

So the Intel driver AND the Nvidia driver won't install?
-
So my ship date for the 4k model is June 26th but the estimated delivery is July 6th. Why is it gonna take 7 business days to get to my house?
Also by experience how long does it take you guys to get your laptop? From Lenovo
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
from china to us 7 business days seem very reasonable.
-
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and like you was stumped over what to do about the intel and nvidia drivers. Turns out that the nvidia and intel drivers for Windows 8.1 will work just fine and everything else will install
-
Ah makes sense. Don't know why but I thought it was shipping from the US.

So strange! My fresh install of Windows 8.1 on a new SSD was missing drivers for a variety of things, even after updating it was still missing a whole bunch. Had to manually download and install some from the Lenovo site, but a few are still unknown in Device Manager. Even had to do so via Ethernet because the wireless card drivers were seemingly missing as well.
Until a feature doesn't work I guess I won't worry about it... Windows can't figure out what they are, and neither can I
-
I'm still missing a driver, but I have no idea what it's for. All it says is unknown device, but I'm not too worried. Everything else seems to be working fine.ian3 likes this. -
Is anyone using cloning software when upgrading to an SSD or what the best route does lenovo offer an option to create recovery media to install once new drive is installed is just ordered this laptop with the 1 tb hard drive and purchased samsung evo 500gb SSD and I'm wondering what current owners are doing please help!!!
-
It's probably the Lenovo Energy Management software. Check the hardware ID of the device. If it says anything like "ACPI..." that's likely it.
-
Try to right click that device --> Properties --> Details --> On property, select Hardware Ids- -> Copy the second value, and google that second value. Then google can find what device it is.
hope it helps.
Attached image is only an example, I'm using a desktop right now.Attached Files:
