I did a clean install as I put in a new Samsung 500GB SSD. However, most people just upgrade from 8.1

I ended up going to a service shop where they said they could take the screws out via drilling and without damaging the threads. Well I hope they are right and nothing will happen. Anyways, how do you guys keep the air filter clean? Do you take the back cover off everytime? I am afraid i will stripped more screws if i keep taking the bottom case out. Is there any other way how to clean it without taking it apart? It gets clogged within few days when I clean it, and It sits on a cooler pad most of the time.

    Hi,

I have a problem with my subwoofer. I think it's not working at all. 2 front speakers seem to work fine but nothing comes from subwoofer. Realtek shows my audio as 2.0, not 2.1. Is this the reason? I have already updated my realtek drivers (tried both for windows 8 and 10 as I am currently running 10). Any ideas ? Maybe the subwoofer is so weak that I am not able to hear it ?

Realtek lists mine as stereo as well. That said, I've always just assumed that the sub was in fact working and that it just doesn't do to much. I use headphones usually, however, so I dunno.

Here's 16 GB RAM upgrade for about 64 bucks. 1.35 Volts, 1866 MHz. Even though Amazon and Crucial's site say it's 1.35 Volts, they're listed as DDR3, not DDR3L. To make things even more confusing, one of Amazon's pics contradicts everything else and says 1.5 Volts. Nuts!

Are these compatible with the Y50? Crucial's site says that they are. Can anyone confirm that the Y50 supports 1866 MHz RAM?? Can anyone recommend me some better RAM??

Just a heads up for those playing at home; the Nvidia drivers are still broken. Updated from (working) 355.98 to the latest 359.00 today. I didn't even get to game playing as the driver BSOD (in WIn 10) while I was in GeForce Experience. Quality drivers all around Nvidia!

    Rolling back to 355.98, again.

    They just posted this today:

"Update 11/30/15 - We have identified the cause and plan to roll out a hotfix driver soon to address this issue."

Incredible that it took this long and so many driver updates, but it looks like the end is in sight.

So i got that samsung 850 500 GB drive adn I did a clean install using a USB as a boot drive. Since then whenever i uninstall ANY driver (even touchpad) and have to reboot, windows decides to give me a black screen with no cursor. I have managed to get into Windows 10 by rebooting billion times until it eventually lets me log in. Now, when I even just restart (not installing anything) it gives me a black screen. I am lost and have no idea what to do... Is it the clean install? Or should I upgrade my BIOS (still running on 2.01 since 3.03 gives me random shut downs). This problem is really irritating. I just uninstalled a touchpad, restarted and bam, black screen without anything I can do about it... Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

As soon as I sell my Y410p laptop, see sig, I'm getting the Lenovo Y50 UHD Laptop with ultra high 4K resolution.
My only gripe is it doesn't good battery times, nor have a removable battery so I'll have to get me a portable battery.
You guys (and gals) know of any good portable batteries out there that aren't too big?

Hey guys, I found an issue with Windows 10 build 10586. When I upgrade to this build, it boots me into a black screen without a cursor. I have isolated this issue down to the synaptics trackpad driver. All the versions of this touchpad cause the laptop to boot into black screen. Can anyone confirm this? Can you guys check your builds? The latest one seems to be 10586. You can check this by typing winver into the search. Thanks.

Hi guys, New owner of a lenovo Y50!

    it's a 2015 model with the gtx 960m.

I just swapped a SSD + 16gb ram upgrade. removing that back cover......i suggest you watch a youtube video on it first. i almost broke the hinges by brute force.

    Question:

what kind of screen is the touch 1080p version?

i'm asking this because my screen is GOD AWFUL bad. even at max brightness it still looks dark. Everything in this laptop is perfect minus the damn screen. Colors look washed out too.
i also own a asus Q550 from 2013 and the screen is hands down miles better than this y50.
is the Y50 screen IPS? mine certainly looks like a cheap TN.

Other than that i upgraded to win10 and have zero issues.

    Nvidia:
    355.98 - Known stable
359.06 - Supposed to fix all the crashing (I won't upgrade)
    361.43 - Latest, not tested.

    Intel:
Just use the latest off Intel's site. No one has reported any issues with the Intel graphics

the screen going black has nothing to do with graphic drivers. But generally you want the latest drivers. just download "nvidia experience" it will check for the latest.

the screen going black for 10 seconds has to do with your mechanical SSHD (hybrid hard drive). it's very slow to load all startup apps/services from windows 10.

upgrade to SSD and it will be INSTANT.

    *Fixed

Also 361.43 works perfectly, no crashing or the FPS drops 359.12 had. As for the Intel HD the most recent one is 4352, but from my experience the dedicated GPU is usually the troubled part.

Lenovo uses TN & IPS/LCD on 2015 Y50 variants. The IPS panel is made by LG and doesn't have any viewing angle problems. You can tell TN without needing to be told, though Hwinfo64 can show monitor info.

Incorrect. That driver wasn't the one with the 860M fixes, the link below is the one that ManuelG posted for 860M owners.

    nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3812

I don't want to sound rude, but if you were active in the 860M owners thread over at the Geforce forum you'd know that Manuel didn't confirm a fix until the 359.12 hotfix. 359.06 doesnt include it. He even made a specific thread to inform us that his team found the source of the crashes and other problems.

By the time 359.06 was finished the problem had only been discovered and was NOT incorporated until 359.12. The issue is much easier to follow by reading thru the Nvidia forum, time wise.

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Window...-windows10-pro-build-1511-update/td-p/2207703

Guys, here is the problem exact same thing I am experiencing with the new build. I also happen to have synaptics touchpad. The symptoms i am having are:
    1. Successfully installing win 10 build 10586
    2. Installing several drivers inc touchpad, everything from lenovo site
    3. restarting laptop several times successfully
    4. i can sorta know that its going to boot into black screen if my touchpad stops working properly before the restart (2 finger scroll works but 3 finger commands suddenly stop working)
    5. restarting into lenovo logo and the spinning circle, afterwards its a blackscreen (however the background is lit, its not a solid pure black screen)
    6. there is no cursor available for me no matter how long I wait.
    7. Safemode and BIOS is accessible
    8. In safemode however, I cannot do anything, It says I am not an administrator (cant even go to control panel and do stuff)
    9. Repair windows tools are not working at all. The only way for me is to force restart it.
    10. If i force restart it like 12 times in a row, it will magically log me into windows.

Can you guys please help me? Is it a driver or windows problem? If TH2 wont be working, do you think Redstone will be fine? Thanks ahead, Ryzz.

Hi guys, long time lurker of this thread and have some doubts.

The hdd of my lenovo died on me last week so I'm getting a SSD. Do I need to install windows 8.1 and then upgrade or can I just installed windows 10 and it will extract the key from bios automatically?

    Thanks in advance :)

    that depends.

did you have windows 8.1 or 10 on the old hard drive?

you have to install win 10 at least once so that the key gets embedded in your bios.

however, once you upgrade to windows 10, any re-installs after that, you can just start with windows 10 as your bios will have the key embedded.

Btw thanks for the quick reply

Hey dude, could you please tell me what version of windows you are running? (Type in winver into the search bar - tell me if your windows 10 build is 10586). Also what do you mean by "my pc wouldn't boot". Do you see the lenovo logo with the circle and afterwards nothing? Could you please describe it to me? (Do you see a lightly lit black screen without mouse cursor?). I think your problem might be well connected to mine. Solving your problem will solve mine I guess. But first I need that windows version and description of "not booting". Thanks, Ryzz.

I'm not near the laptop at the moment, but the problem is that after i install the drivers for Windows 8.1 and restart the system, it will show the lenovo logo and then freez in a black lit and won't proceed any further.

I solved it booting in safe mode and unistalling the energy manager. You'll have to enable windows installer through cmd.exe though.

Hey, I uninstalled the Energy Manager but I still got the black screens. However I decided to uninstall the entire UMDF minidriver device (used by EM) from the list of devices section thingy. It seems to have fixed the black screen boot, however, found a new problem. Everytime I click on the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, then click on the information section about my laptop, then my laptop immediately crashes and give me a blue screen "kernel_security_check_failure". Any ideas?

Alright, fixed the blue screen kernel problems. It turns out to be a problem with the new nvidia drivers problems. Meny people with the new 361.43 drivers are getting BSODs relating to kernel security issues. Mostly happens when opening photoshop or the gfx intel control panel. Hope I helped.

Thinking about purchasing this external Bluray drive to get my movies / anime / etc. on. Does the Y50's PowerDVD10 software play Blurays or just DVDs?
