GTA iv, crysis and ETC all new games will run fine in MID to High Settings, just not ultra.
SC2, i will test this week. My current notebook Asus N81vp-d1 (ATI 4650) can run it mid-high. So I expect the y560 (ATI 5730) to run it high-ultra.
Also if you are CANADA: your options/customization is limited. If you are in the USA, you have many options to pick from.
3D was shown on the notebooks during E3 conference, but will not be available on these notebooks due to cost. Expect that next year, read that somewhere online.

My report: Portal is 70fps with lots of stuff going on and ~150-170fps staring a t a wall. SC2 is flawless on high, about to try a few minutes with ultra.
I'll have a full pros/cons of the Y560 in a few days.
Edit: Don't bother with ultra it runs like crap -

thanks for the quick response jack, i did go back and spend some time reading the pages, i knew it was coming without RD and 3D, didn't expect them. I'm happy with the lappy so far, it's everything i thought it should be. It's my first laptop purchase, and no regrets so far!
My only thing is deciding what to do about the bloatware, what is useful and what is not, so far there aren't much for detailed posts on that. I'll have to google the details of the most effective way of uninstalling programs you don't want and doing a safe registry clean to make sure you only scrap the things you want gone. In any case, thanks for any responses, it would be great to get all my info in one place -
I ordered a Crucial 256 GB SSD drive from newegg, it will arrive in the next day or so. I will remove the original drive and install the SSD. I will post the results when I get hold of it.
-
Why is everyone switching to SSD
-
-
if i install a PCIe SSD in a free slot on my Y560, am i going to be able to boot from it or not?
if yes, can anyone explain in detail this process? -
The only down sides to a SDD is the price and smaller storage capacity. -
turqoisegirl08 Notebook Evangelist
Yeah and once you use SSD you'll notice just how noisy a regular hard drive is!
-
I'd wait for the rapiddrive in Sept. -
Splitscreen - if you want more options than win 7 aero snap. Try it, like/don't like it, keep/uninstall it. [I kept it]
SlideNav- the touch sensitive slider above the keyboard is useless with out this. [I kept it]
OneKey theatre- for changing from normal to cinema mode and inteligent mode with the movie(one that looks like a film projector) touch sensitive button. [I kept it]
OneKey Recovery - to restore to factory default, image your drive, etc. use the small button with the arrow. [I kept it]
Lenovo Share direct - if your other laptop/computer has this you can share files with this. [I uninstalled it]
Lenovo ReadyComm - network connection software. try it, if you don't think it's useful uninstall it. [I uninstalled it]
Veriface- using the webcam to log you in. It is slow. Neat to show off to a friend. [I uninstalled it]
Youcam- webcam software to take pics, videos. And it can also record your desktop. [I kept it, it's there when i need it]
Power2Go- dvd/cd burner software. If you have another burning software uninstall it. [I kept it]
Energy Management- self explainatory, also used for the battery touch sensitive button. And i believe some part of this software is needed for the other touch sensitive buttons. [I kept it]
Mcafee Anti-virus- Uninstall it and Install your own anti-virus. [I uninstalled it]
To uninstall anything i would recommend using Revo Uninstaller ( there is a free version). After the software uninstalls, it scans for left over registry and files.
If i'm missing any other software, let me know. -

Now that's the type of post I was looking for, mad props! Thanks for the
details and uninstaller suggestion, I think that will work just fine for me. Looks like I got some work to do after work. haha
Can't wait to get this thing fully operational. Guess I'm gonna have to pick up an extra mouse for it too, and some express card additions (extra usb's, firewire to name a few).
So far definitely stoked! Mildly annoyed at the one dead pixel on arrival, but it's not worth the hassle of trying to get rma'd for something that small as I know most manufacturers have a minimum of like 3 or 4 before they'll do a replace, and the shipping time is just too long hahaha. -
It basically does what the Lenovo rapiddrive does without the bother of dealing with Lenovo drivers or configurations.
It offers performance that is close to SSDs while costing less and offering more storage. I actually see Lenovo dropping their rapid drive solution all together since installing a hybrid drive is a much simpler/cheaper solution. -
Just curious with those who already received theirs. I order my y560 with the i7 back on 5/23. The ship date was originally for today. When I checked this morning, it was changed to next monday the 7th.

how long did you guys wait for yours from the purchase date? -
i ordered on the 9th of May. Mine will be delivered tmrw, June 2nd.
-
i ordered a y460 may 31st. does that mean, it will be shipped from lenovo around june 15?
-
-
Although I live in Canada. So I don't know how fast UPS is in the States.
-
I ordered a y560 on the 8th of May and it arrived on the 21st of May.
-
the_prairie_prophet Notebook Enthusiast
expect 3-4 weeks for shipping, plain and simple. a little bit of quick research would have found you that answer, to me the deal was worth the wait.
-
Looks like the highest price Y460 is now $999 if you add it to your cart. $849.15 after 15% coupon.

Can anyone comment on the build quality of the Y560? From the pictures it looks to be cheap, glossy plastic but one can't really tell without handling it.
-
Hey I dont have any complaints with my laptop so far. The glossy plastic does muck up easily, but overall the laptop feels very sturdy (no creaking or moveable plastic pieces). It most likely will not be able to stand up to the kind of abuse you would throw at a thinkpad, but in it's current capacity as a replacement for my desktop computer I think it is completely sufficient. Im very impressed with the quality, but I've never had a lenovo before so I cant compare it to its antecedents. As Ive said before, I wish the touchpad was smaller or more to the right as I frequently touch it inadvertently when typing.
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
So the plastic is really glossy but there is no creaking or flex?
-
Well I think theres a little flex on the right hand side and the monitor casing but I feel completely comfortable using the empty space as a handrest even leaning on it. Its much better than my last laptop which would pres random keyboard keys if I leaned on the palmrest too hard. I would be very careful if you put this in a backpack to make sure theres padding between it and books, it doesnt offer the same protection for the screen as thinkpads or HP's glass screens.
-
Just got my Kingston V+ Series 128Gb SSD. But I have to work so I can't pop her in.
-
Looks like Lenovo will be switching to NVidia soon and incorporating Optimus into the Y460. Dunno about the Y560, but I suppose it's possible as well:

anyone know what the led beside the wifi led is for? my is always off, i just notice there was a led there.
-
My only explanation would be the ambient light sensor.
-
Can anyone confirm that the new AMD ATI driver doesn't support switchable graphics? some canadian forum sites are saying that you shouldn't update the video card driver. -
This is a pretty big concern and I hope it's solvable and only a driver issue. -
Hey Wahbinator, i see you swapped in a seagate momentus 7200, I've read lots of reviews and apparently theres loud clicking noises from the momentus 7200.4 series. How is it so far? I've been thinking about grabbing a WD scorpio, slight increase in price but I know i can trust WD
-
btw I installed the new ATI driver, no crashes yet. -
so i finally pulled the trigger on the y560! my asus w3j died 2 weeks ago. it had a good 4 year run
i'm hoping the 1366x resolution is good enough for the 15.6" screen... how is the screen quality of the y560?
and how long of a wait am i looking at here for the laptop to arrive? I placed my order last night around 5pm, and live in us east. -
The screen... not many good things to say about it. If you can handle the occasional grainyness it's fine. -
ahh... i got the basic model. i thought i didn't really need the higher processors for the things i do (but maybe that was a mistake a little time down the road hehe)
maybe i should've gone the y460 route if y560 is grainy...
i was even considering an older core 2 duo sony over the y560 because i feared screen wouldn't be crisp! -
Hey how is everyone's surround sound working? According to this video with dolby home theatre v3 i should be able to turn on surround sound but it appears i dont have the options. Viddler.com - Dolby Home Theater v3 hands-on, err... ears-on at Computex - Uploaded by TweakTown does everyone have that option in the vid? If so... mine doesn't have surround sound. Can any confirm they have this because i want surround sound from my laptop speakers...

I'm getting bad flickering/dithering on blue backgrounds (new Y560). Can someone take a look at this image and tell me if you get flickering, shimmering, etc. in the red box?
Yfrog Image : yfrog.com/62ditheringandflickeringp
PS - You'll need to view it in it's large format to see it. -
-
Ignore the release date and look at the "last updated" date - they're from May 31. No changelog as of yet. I'm still getting unseen bluescreens with the 0x0000009f error faulting toward the display driver though, only when putting the computer to sleep when plugged in (on battery it works fine). -
Lenovo is revamping the Y560 models, so on their website you will notice as of today (June 03 2010) a sudden lack of options (only 2 models). This is to make way for the Y560 models featuring the new Intel i processors and ...
Rapid Drive!
The first one I am seeing out the gates is the Lenovo Y560 06462QU which has the new i5-450M, 500GB traditional HDD and 32GB SSD.
Very nice -
-
Check the monitor settings and make sure the refresh rate is 60 and test out the colours, true/high settings maybe that will fix your problem
-
-
3D display.
:| -
I heard the refresh is coming in october.
So long of a wait! -
i just received my CANADIAN model y460. BOO, i got the english/french bilingual keyboard layout. where can i purchase the US keyboard, and can i install it pretty easily on the Y460 without messing up the OS keyboard settings?
the CANADIAN version makes the ENTER key smaller and the LEFT SHIFT key smaller, by placing a "|\" key there. essentially there are 2 of those keys!! BOO!
also, when i goto TASK MANAGER, it says i have 4 cores on my i5-520M. is it registering each cores (hyper thread) as 2 cores? -
yes, it registers hyperthreading as cores in task manager
