backlit keys would turns these into the greatest notebooks ever. Then again if they're the right price I'll probably get one anyway.

what the heck is up with people and their obsession over backlit keys?
backlit keys would make it so the keyboards are no longer spillproof
this is a fundamental quality of the amazing lenovo keyboards!
you have the thinklight if you really can't touch-type in the dark
why would you want to get rid of spillproof for some useless and battery-sucking colored lights?
i just don't get it -
It's "cool" and "eye-candy" for a lot of people. I am one of those who are more pratical and want to keep the spillproff keyboard.
-
through my ignorance, i thought backlights were legit also. never saw the other side
thx

From an Engadget comment:
Edge Series Press Release
X100e Press Release
T410s, T410, T510, and W510 Press Release -
From http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=83501
"Additionally, select models of the ThinkPad Edge 14 and 15 inch versions will come with illuminated keyboards for visibility in low light conditions while adding a touch of elegance to the keyboard."
backlit or the regular thinklight? -
I would guess backlit.
-
"The T410s now comes with Nvidia switchable graphics with 512 MB of VRAM so users can balance a visually-intense graphics experience with energy efficiency and battery life."
Seriously? That would be awesome...and even more expensive. -
They don't drain very much battery, and they don't need to be crazy colors. It's just something I'd use, and would like, at least as an option. I appologize that it upsets you so much.
if I wanted to be cool and hip I'd get a sh*tty apple.
Backlit or not I'm really excited for these notebooks! -
I kind of want to get the X100e to replace my fathers 12in iBook he currently uses, but I am not sure if it gets a dual core amd option. I don't think I saw it, but what is the stated battery life on the X100e? The Edge looks interesting with its stated HD audio, and design, but the larger bezel makes it a bit larger than it should be.
Don't some companies have that keyboard light option? I guess Lenovo could always do something like that, and still keep the keyboard spill proof? -
I love it when people assume their choice is the only valid choice. For me, I've had my lunch next to my Vaio about twice a week for over 5 years plus I sip caffeinated drinks often when working late (when it is pretty dark in my home-office or other places I work around the house). I have yet to spill, let alone spill ON my notebook. I can't even begin to count the times I would have appreciated a backlit keyboard though.
-
Lenovo's page for the X100e says up to 5 hours for battery life when you view the second picture in the gallery.
The press release Jay linked says it will have single and dual core Neo options including the Turion....so should be MV-40, L335, and L625 Neos. -
Typical business notebook users know how to type - no need for backlit keyboards.
-
Typical business notebook users don't order their own laptops...no need to sell them individually on-line then, right?
-
yeah, right.
lol -
i like what they said about the load of and shut down times :O!!! from button to the time firefox opens, i have to wait like 3-5 min.... SOO BAD. its soundsing like a well rounded laptop. hope there are plenty of options when ordering
-
I'm concerned about the quality of the displays. For me quality > 16:10.
-
me too
i'd gladly take a quality 16:9 screen
instead of the 16:10 junk they offer now -
Engadgets review of the Edge 13:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/03/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-13-review/ -
Engadget posted more detailed specs... The T410 and T410s are 16:10, the T510 is 16:9, and the W510 is 16:10. However the W510 is only available in 1440x900! Also the W510 appears to come with a touch screen standard (I can't believe this!).
-
I'm dying to know if the W510 has SATA 6 or only SATA 3! Anyone?
-
Seems strange they use the term "HD" for 1280*800 on the W510, when the same document shows "WXGA" for 1280*800 on the T410(s)... fishy!
-
I would have to agree here. Plenty of those who I work with claim they can type, yet they HAVE to look at the keyboard while they type.
Real typers don't need no stinkin' backlight keyboard!! -
The price is nice, i hope their will be sale on it soon enough.
-
Real drinkers don't need spill proof keyboards. Go get a sippy cup
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Lenovo took these off the "New Product Showcase" page.
JKontheRun has an Edge 13 video. -
Did you even read the specs you posted?
Clearly states three available resolutions for the W510 up to Full HD.
So the T510 is degraded to 16:9...? Strange. Why would they "offer" 15 inch displays in 1280x800, 1376x768, 1440x900, 1600x900, 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 flavours? Pretty costly I guess.
btw, strange memory config.
btw #2: "The W510 gives users a new kind of power – the power of touch – for a new way to work with an optional multi-finger touch screen" -
No, it says the W510 has "FHD" which is parlance for 1920x1200.
-
Or 1920x1080.
The screen specs seem still a bit fishy indeed.
But we still don't know what nvidia's nvs3100m and fx880m are... -
Should also be a 15.4" for 16:10. 15.6" is a 16:9 screen size.
How many of you still want 16:10 when 1440x900 is your highest res offered? ;þ -
whoa the T510 would use a 12.7 mm ultrabay enhanced drive??? this would increase the machine thickness by a fair stretch...
-
Why would they switch to 16:9? That would need another case design for 15" models. That's not gonna happen.
We do in case of the 310m:
-
W510 is on sale in Germany.
Same confusion about screen resolutions....lists a quad core i7.
That site also has the T510 and T410. -
lol. a little late, hmm
Posting #84:
-
Ya got me.
-
The GPU in question in the new Thinkpads is the NVS 3100M, not the GT 310M (which is an integrated chip, while the NVS 3100M is dedicated, by the way.)
-
The GT310M is a discrete card....it's a rebranded GT 210M. (GT218 GPU)
Engadget lists the Nvidia GPU for the T410 and T510 as the NVS 3100M (no mention of Quadro BTW) while the German site that has it for sale is lisitng it as the nVIDIA N10M-NS....which leads me to believe they are possibly different names for the same card.
The nVIDIA N10M- GS was the GT 210M. -
that's not correct. the 210M is the successor to the 9400M, which is an integrated card.
The NVS line is always labeled as "Quadro NVS"
I don't think the German site is accurate. (They were quite confused about 16:9 vs 16:10, for instance) We still don't know what the NVS 3100M is. -
So, is the GT310m is a rebrand of the GT210M, or a rebrand with a higher clock speed or what not.
-
This website has some more nicely printed specs. It shows W510 is 16:10 but 15.6 inch and you can choose intel 5 INT (never heard of) as an alternative to FX880M. Besides, a 160GB SSD is also available (hopefully an intel one).
http://www.slashgear.com/lenovo-thinkpad-t410s-t410-t510-and-w510-notebooks-get-intel-dual-core-core-i5i7-injection-0367509/ -
N10E makes sense though. It must be rather low-power (and can be low performance) for fitting into the smaller t410. For the big honkin' graphics workstation (w510), they apparently have that fx880m, which then should be something bigger.
-
The 5 INT is the Intel 5 series graphics... Meaning hybrid switchable graphics. The new 32nm Intel processors come with the Intel graphics.
-
So a class 3 graphic card!? what the heck....
-
My bad. Never paid attention to that, always thought i7 only W510.
-
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/03/lenovo-intros-thinkpad-edge-x100e-ultraportable-and-other-think/
In the press release, it says the T410 and T510 are Intel integrated and Nvidia NVS 3100M. -
No. There is no IGP successor to the 9400M / ION / MCP79 chipset.
Check the spec sheets on Nvidia. The G210M and G310M use the same 40nm 16 CUDA core G218 GPU that's in the desktop G210, and G310.
You can even find the G210M in the ASUS UL30vt along with the integrated GMA 4500MHD providing switchable graphics.
ION 2 is the closest thing to a successor for the 9400M and it's rumored to use that same G218 GPU as well but it's not a chipset IGP anymore.... it's actually a type of discrete GPU using a PCIe connection. -
well ok, but there might be an IGP successor to the 9400M, called the G305M, but we're talking about products not yet announced.
look here under mobile 300 series -
G305M is the same GPU as the rest with lower clocks.
Nvidia can't make chipsets with IGPs for Intel CPUs anymore. -
I guess that would make sense.
-
thank you for the link. Apparently the W510 uses the high performance Core i7 processors, so let's hope it has very good cooling, otherwise that thing could melt!
