Thanks for checking on that!
-
How about battery options for either 3 models?
-
That's some good info... Instead of constantly checking Lenovo's website I know I have to wait at least!
-
There were about 1000 new laptops released today, not just Lenovo ones. Patience is a virtue.
-
I just hope they put FX880m and 160 SSD in there for the W510 and I'll order it.
-
What's the resolution on the 15.6" HD and 15.6" HD+ displays? Of course if you click on the Help me decide link, the popup doesn't tell you.
-
Hd = 1366*768
Hd+ = 1600*900
Fhd = 1920*1080 -
Well, it looks like the W510 has the NVIDIA FX880M:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_quadro_fx_880_m_us.html -
Can anyone tell what's the rebadged card this one is?
-
probably a refresh of fx770m which is rebadged geforce 9600m GT. the specs look very close
-
Thanks, QS.
-
Looks like more powerful than 1700m, with 48 cores comparable to 230/240m I guess?
http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx_go.html -
Why can't Lenovo post this info on their website? Their website staff is horrible. All they need to say is dedicated graphics won't ship until mid February!
-
Hmmm... I don't see any other Calpella based GPU for 15.6"/35W... could it be that NVS 3100M = NVS 5100M = FX 880M? Or NVS 3100M = FX 1800M? ... but this one is 15.6"/45W.
-
This is my thought:
3100M (used in T410) < 5100M = FX880M (48 cores) << 1800M (72 cores) -
Nvidia is very confusing with these names
-
Indeed... For now, if everything stands, I can only wish it's more powerful than 240m ... I mean 35W > 23W (from notebook check), right?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-240M.17654.0.html -
Well, these shape up to be fairly good machines; but I'm still glad I purchased my current T500 a few weeks ago (and the newer keyboard isn't bad at all )
-
Yea, I'm old. But why does the aspect ratio of displays on supposedly "business" notebooks keep getting shorter? They didn't go from 16:10 on the W500 to 16:9 on the W510 because it's a better size for Word documents.
I realize it's helpful to go wider for things like Excel spreadsheets and for displaying two windows side by side, but I suspect for most business uses, the scrolling is still up and down, not side to side. Frankly, the old 15-inch displays had the best ratio for the work I do (software/website development - coding, not graphics). So now with the 15.6" displays, there's even less visible up and down so you do more scrolling, and if you're constantly having to jump back and forth left to right (like to the Auto Sum button on the upper right in Excel), it's quite a trip.
I'm sure some will argue the point, but a strong case can be made that the reasons have nothing to do with the "business" that's done on the computer. The real reasons likely are that "HD+" looks so much better in sales materials than WSXGA+ and they want buyers to think, "It's for work, but now I can watch an HD movie on it too." (Then again, the 15.6" display is still better than the teletype machine I coded on in the 70s.) -
they are going 16:9 because that is what the lcd makers are making
-
Dude, it's 2010, not 2009. You might wanna change your sig
-
I don't disagree that's a reason, but it's a two-way street.
And if you're right, in five years all notebook screens will be 3D!!!! (And I'll be investing in aspirin stocks.) -
lol^^ i wish. i want a 3d screen. EPIC! lol. however, i say a good 15 years before that. imagine the gpu/cpu/ram power u need for that. 2d is tough enough. be sick tho
wats this 3100?!?!?!?!?! -
3D vision is a pretty old idea. Autostereoscopic displays are still expensive, but shutter glasses aren't. ELSA's 3D Revelator should be 10 years old by now. Good old times...
...I miss my 2048x1536@60Hz / 800x600@160Hz 19" CRT! -
Panels are being made for small HD displays, TVs, portable DVDs, etc. Its cheaper to use panel that are already being made in quantity than to have another production line for a very similar resolution in a very similar size unless there is a pretty good reason to do so. In the end it might save them a couple bucks a computer, but you know they'll shave every cost they can unless they get significant push back from consumers.
-
T410 is probably a decent laptop, though I'll echo everyone else here that favors ATI's graphics over the nVidia stuff that Lenovo has switched back to. In recent history, ATI has had better battery life than nVidia, and I've tended to favor their video playback capabilities as well.
On the other hand, for non-gamers, discrete graphics probably isn't necessary any more. Early benchmarks show Intel's new onboard graphics are at least double the speed of the X4500MHD. Since the X4500MHD is the first mobile Intel graphics chip I've been even moderately impressed with, I'd say that's something worth thinking about.
At this point, I'll be happy with my T400 for the next few years, I think. I don't need the extra processing power for what I do, Windows 7 runs fantastic on my P8600 with 4GB of RAM, and I just can't justify replacing a laptop I'm currently quite happy with. -
I was configuring a W510 for fun and saw this:
Display Panel Help me decide Help me decide
15.6" HD Anti-Glare Display with LED Backlight and WWAN Antenna [New]
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks.
15.6" HD+ Anti-Glare Display with LED Backlight and WWAN Antenna [add $50.00] [New]
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks.
15.6" FHD Display (95% Gamut, 270nit) with LED Backlight [add $250.00] [New]
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks.
15.6" FHD Display (95% Gamut) with LED Backlight and Multi Touch Screen [add $450.00] [New]
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks.
So the W510 was just released today and is available to be ordered, but apparently they didn't anticipate that so many people would want one with a screen.
Also, has anyone found definitive info about the GPU? If it is actually the FX880, why in the heck are they saying it is an NVS series? -
In the W series page, it does say W510 up to FX880m. So I believe it will be there some time later. I'm also waiting for the rumored 160 SSD and ... where's the 3-yr warranty plan? Besides, anyone know if the 9 cell will stick out or not?
-
Haha, someone with a both a T61 & a T400 should be the last person to feel compelled to upgrade!

As far as I can tell there's not even a point to ordering anything right now for any of the new Thinkpads 14" and up. They don't even have all their drivers listed for Windows 7, nor do they even have product literature available to download. That tells me they don't even support the new models yet.
Seems like they just have something on their website to configure so people can get a gimpse and to "play" with
Ugh, the wait continues (my current laptop barely even functions properly anymore). -
FYI: The newest Lenovo PSRef is out today with the new models listed in detail.
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf goes straight to the Thinkpad PDF. Enjoy
-
There is a model I haven't heard of yet called the T410si that appears to use an Core i3-330M instead of the T410s' Core i5. Maybe this is the "value edition" T410s or maybe it's focus will be better battery life.
PSRef also clearly states that the W510's discrete video chip is an nVidia Quadro FX880M. -
6cell fits even, so 9cell will stick out. wondering how a 4cell will look like
-
The slice battery can be used with 6 cell as well right? Just have to wait and wait...
No 160G SSD from the spec, disappointing ... I believe lenovo was selling intel SSD sometime ago. -
don't know how the slice battery is actually fixed at the bottom of the laptop...ideas, anyone?
-
Guessing it interfaces through the Ultrabay port. I don't know how it is secured to the laptop though.
-
I'm thinking it may have a dedicated flush mount power connector or utilize the dock connector.
-
That's what I meant... The dock not the ultrabay.
-
I figured as much
-
Apparently Lenovo is offering the Intel drives on the new models like they sporadically did on the old ones. This thread makes it seem like an economical (for an Intel G2 anyway) upgrade too http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=448948
-
What does "second disk" mean for the W510? Ultrabay?
-
It is described as a two spindle system which should mean it can support two 2.5" drives natively since some of the configurations in tabook say RAID1 (2x HDDs) and ODD.
-
Awesome, I would love to get a 16-32gb SLC ssd for the OS and then have a bigger one for storage
-
Can it be assumed that the current w510 on the Lenovo site can take two 2.5" drives and run RAID0, sans the Ultrabay?
-
Don't think so. The old machines (definitely only 1 primary disk bay + 1 ultrabay) are also called 'two spindles' (i.e. ODD counts as spindle).
The W700 is three spindles. -
I was interested in the T510 but..
No USB 3.0
No number pad (wasted space on sides)
My UltraNav on my T500 drifts CONSTANTLY.
Questions:
Would my ultrabay CD-Rom adapter that holds my HDD not fit?
Would my T500 9-call battery not fit?
Would my T500 blu-ray burner not fit?
Residual questions:
Will my T500 accept 1333mhz memory?
What is the difference in performance of the i5-540M vs. i7-620M?
Thanks to anyone who helps.
-
Yes,
it will work, even though the RAM will probably be clocked down to match the FSB of the CPU! -
Is the 3470 more powerful than the graphics card in the T410 and T410s.
-
Call them and ask about the nvs3100m. They can't expect us to buy their stuff without knowing anything (but the marketing name) about an important component.
-
I believe they are using a different size UltraBay so you'll have to wait for a new BluRay drive. Or maybe the 12mm height ones everyone else uses might work.
New specs on T410, T510, and W510
