The Iris option is not available is due to limited quantity. These chips have to be binned.

Odd isn't it that Apple and many "off-brand" notebooks have it though…

They do not have iris. The clevos do but I think iris is only 5100 and 5200 isn't it?

Apple doesn't have any laptop with an Iris graphic. Apple does use a better GPU (HD5000). It all comes down to supply and demand.

I'm about tired of just viewing this thread everyday... especially with the dread of having another +/- 30 days of viewing to go... so I figured I'd register and join in on the speculation.

That being said... with about $1700 to spend... what are the odds I can take the t440s to "fully loaded" minus the items I can upgrade after market?

Assuming you get the cheapest HDD and 4GB RAM, I'd say $1800 max (with those options it would be around $2000-2100). Just keep saving up though, who knows, maybe an extra $200 will be in order for a 730M add-on :)

As far as past pricing goes, I took screenshots of fully-loaded T420/T430/s models and they're all around $1700.

Lol. I like your reasoning welcome to the thread.

$1700 should get you fully loaded with with I7 processor and (if allowed *8Gb). I will assume the T440s will be like the T431s without alot of options besides, processor, ram, and hard drive.

The big difference will be in the 3 screen choices: regular, IPS, and Touch in increasing order of expense. Right now an I7 T431s with 4gb ram is going for $1178. The T440s is supposed to start at $1150 and I think the T431s started at the same or $1100. So, you should more than fine for $1700. Ram and hard drive you can upgrade yourself. Someone mentioned that the IPS option may costs $100 more. Touchscreen will probably be $200+ more. Even then I still think you will be fine for $1700. A fully loaded carbon touch is $1785+ so, I don't think Lenovo wants the two being the same price.

Congrats. Since US won't have it for sometime, yours will probably be the most anticipated T440s delivery. Looking forward to details.

Why is your model not in the US or Western Europe psref?

    @vinuneuro,
Only Topseller models are listet in the PSREF. My model is an Education version.

    @ibmquality,
I live in Germany. I have ordered the T440s 20AQ-S00600, which has these specs according to Lenovo:
There are some small differences: My model seems to have 12 GB of RAM rather than 8 GB and no WWAN (WWAN optional), but I will check it when it arrives.

Total cost for it ~1095 € with 3 year standard bring-in warranty and taxes.

All of the new machines have been removed from the UK T series page, although they're still accessible from the comparison chart further down:

ThinkPad T Series: Premium Laptops | Lenovo (UK)

Does this signify a page refresh and... maybe... availability around the corner?

Hard to tell since it looks like the T440p will have a different chassis to the regular T400 and T400s, but historically the 'p' versions have not been that much different in terms of components -- better screen, better GPU and slightly better CPU options were usually the main differentiating factors.

I hope the T440p *starts* at about the same price as the T440s, but I would not be surprised if it was $100+ higher. Once you start customizing with higher-end components, however, I suspect the price will get pretty steep very fast.

The new fragmentation of the T-series line is frustrating me. I'm in the market for a new 14" Thinkpad with a good GPU, a good FHD screen, ability to add 80-120GB mSATA equivalent (NOT simply a 42mm M.2 cache drive), and decent battery life. I'm hoping the T440p will be it, but the wait to find out is killing me. Meanwhile I'm glancing enviously at the new HP z-books

Well, I received my T440s today via DHL. If you have any questions, you can ask me. :)

So far, it is really great. The FHD Display is great, as well as the chassis and the keyboard. The new UltraNav Buttons also work flawless.

No, it works really well. I have disabled the TouchPad in the UEFI-BIOS. The TrackPoint buttons are still activated (as well as the Swipe-In TouchPad Gestures). They work just like normal the normal buttons, I can find them without looking down.

While the new design can´t beat the old dedicated buttons, it is still a very good experince. There is maybe one annoying aspect about it: It is a bit louder than the old seperate buttons design, but thats ok for me.

Thank you for the wonderful news! Based on the youtube vids that have been posted, I wrote off these new models and refurbed my T61 (new mobo + more RAM), but I think now I'll at least try it out. I can just remap the PGUP / DN buttons to restore the FWD / BK keys, and I may be able to deal with the other changes.

    Thanks again! :D

Congrats. Can you please post battery life once you've used it sometime.

How is the touchpad with all the Win 8 gestures? Is it noisy?
How is text size with the FHD?
Is there rubber coating on the lid, I think they had removed it for the T431s?

Is there anything that stands out positively or negatively about it?

Yes, i7 for $1100 USD is ridiculous. Lucky HK students. Although their models (900p touch) and suggested retails seem to be off.

I agree, and it would tick me off to know that they're price-gouging us overseas...my initial thought is that they're screwing US consumers, but I can't see how this is possible..why wouldn't they just lower the US price significantly (assuming they still make a profit) and outsell the competition?

ibmthink: can you post the full specs? SSD/RAM upgrade? Can you compare the build-quality to previous models? (palmrest flex, display rigidity, robustness of the trackpad button, overall feel of the keyboard (i.e. is the key-travel/depth reduced?), pictures? Thank you!

Some pictures of the t440s make the screen and bezel look more reflective than other pictures. Is yours matte and does it reduce glare pretty well (without doing anything to make text fuzzy)?

Does it seem quiet and cool (not too warm to put on your lap)?

Hype? Heck no. Expectations? You bet.

    1. Haswell
    2. Quality 14" display
    3. Better build quality (X1C and Yoga are superior to lenovo's previous laptops, we hope for more improvements in a $1500+ PC)
    4. The current T43xx lineup has been out for a long time so a refresh is imminent
    5. Possibility of GeForce (non-NVS) GPU is a welcome change (IMHO)

It's cheaper for HK students because their government subsidizes part of the cost for university students (this was stated by someone else much earlier in this thread).

Just catching up on everything I missed and I am sure someone has already answered this but incase it hasnt been the t440p starts at 4.1 pounds.

Now speaking of full voltage cpu models , is there a "p" version of the x240 on the horizon ? If its not "p" then what letter would that one be called lol?

    Thanks

    2. 1080p touch display on u430, argument invalid
    3. and hundreds more expensive too

The U430 is a cheapo consumer notebook. The keyboard is much worse, there is no TrackPoint, the case is much less robust (just an outer shell of Aluminium - no inner frame, no magnesium, no steel hinges etc.). No dual channel RAM (max. 8 GB for the U430). Less ports, no dustless fan (and generally a less good cooling), no FP-Reader. Also, no hot-swappable battery. The Touch version is glossy and comes with a plastic touchscreen (instead of matte Gorrila Glass).

Face it, the U430 can´t compare with the T440s. it lacks many of the premium features of the T440s. The "hype" (if it is really a hype) is not without reason.

One thing to keep in mind is that almost all the US models now come with 3-year warranty. I'm not sure what the default warranty was on the T430s/T431s, but my T410s only came with one year and a 3-year upgrade was around $100 in the US and double that in Canada.

    Both with dGPU GT730M 2GB
Option to replace 24GB mSATA with 128GB and 6cell battery also available (for a 3+6 setup)

Still not happy about CPU (I want at least i7 at 2GHz base clock) so waiting a bit more to pull the trigger :D
