I may have been part of that thread. I spoke to a rep on November 7th.
Thanks for chatting with me as my rep. I plan to order at T440s.
Just reconfirming as of conversation today, your policy for price match for regular (non-oulet laptops) as of today I have 30 days for a price match. The 30 days start from my Invoice date which is the date it ships.
1. Subject Line: Price Match and my order number
2. Screenshot from the cart with exact order, including the exact part number that corresponds with the specs of the machine.
3. Take a a screenshot of the laptop. Pre- tax.
4. Price match is Only pre-tax.
If the |price match] policy changes it would go from my order date.
Call someone and get their email and go from there.

Please help configuring. Getting the t440s for my son at college. I was going to get the base model with touch screen. Says it is FHD. Should I get another model? What options should I get? I was thinking about adding an after-market ssd - does that make sense?

Added bulk. I think it sticks out where the two 3 cell batteries don't. -
Ok, folks, I got bad news for all you people who order earlier and are calling in for price protection. I just called in and also chatted with an online rep -- they wont price match me because now they are using a coupon code to give the lower price. The only way to get this sorted would be to cancel the order and start a fresh order. Easy right? No...read on.
I ordered this machine on friday end of day and it was sent to manufacturing. Now when i called in to cancel, they cant outright cancel the order but they will send in a request to the warehouse for cancellation. This might end up two ways. They get the request and cancel it and I wont get any confirmation email from them that my order has been cancelled. Just that I will have to monitor my credit card hold to see if it is gone or not. Thats good. But they might ship the order anyways to me and then when I receive it, I will have to call them again to return the order. All while I make a separate order with the reduced price.
This is just insanely bad customer service from Lenovo. Just a heads up for all you folks.iofthestorm likes this. -
I just went through that.
In case the 1st computer arrives, I am supposed to return it right away without opening.
What a waste in shipping resources....
also if anyone orders the dock, I got them to price match online prices but then they would charge taxes, so I go from antonline the ultra is 240 shipped/no tax (in CA)
-
The return shipping is paid by lenovo right? Also there are no restocking fees if I am not mistaken. What a waste of resources and such poor post-sales support.
-
any good brand - good deal for 8GB memory for the T440S? any good black friday deal around?
-
correct - Free return shipping (at least they claim) - and the shipping date from the computer ordered on Saturday compared to today is the same.
-
You can open it and play around with it if you wanted too. Just return within 21 days of invoice /shipping. iCorrect?
-
if you choose the 128 GB and then select the 500 GB , they give you the option to choose the Micro Hard Drive, which are
16GB M.2 Solid State Drive Double [add $40.00]
16GB M.2 Solid State Drive Single [add $50.00]
I am planning to upgrade to SSD myself, do you guys think I should not buy any of the Micro Hard Drive?
here is my configuration :
Code:Intel Core i7-4600U Processor (4MB Cache, up to 3.30GHz) Windows 8 64 T440s 14.0 FHD WWAN Intel HD Graphics 4400 4 GB DDR3L - SDRAM 1600MHz Base Fingerprint Reader, dock 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm ThinkPad Battery 3 cell Li-Polymer (23.2Whr) ThinkPad Battery 6 cell Li-Ion (72Whr) Cylindrical High Capacity Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260BN with Bluetooth 4.0 Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable
-
I didn't. These M.2 drives are meant mainly as cache for the HDD. They're slower than high-end SATA SSDs so you don't want to use them as cache if you're not going to use the HDD. Take the AC WiFi instead.
-
Oh huh, you can opt out of the cache drive? If you actually can pay less I'd go for it, you're not going to need it.
-
When we ordered with a platter drive no 16GB drive was not an option. We got the regular 16GB drive and the AC wireless. I repurposed the cache drive for hibernate/deep sleep to keep that partition off the SSD we installed.
-
This is ridiculous. I'm probably going to cancel tomorrow morning since my ship date is still 12/2, while the current date for a new order is 12/4. What the hell, Lenovo?
Not to mention that I can opt out of the M.2 drive this time, so another $40 on top of the 22% discount. -
22%? How do you get that? It shows me 18%
-
I don't think it is worthwhile to get the AC wireless, unless of course you already have an AC router. The driver support for the AC version is not as good as the N version yet. It didn't work with some of the Linux live CDs I have, including one that was released a couple weeks ago. The $30 upgrade fee is not much different from the cost of just buying the AC version outright (and then you have the N version as a backup). Basically if you don't already have an AC network, you will be paying $30 for something with worse OS compatibility and no tangible benefits. Get the Intel N version now, and replace it with the AC version later, once you have an AC network to use it with. By that point you will probably be able to get something with the finalized AC standard rather than draft AC.
As far as messing with the configuration of those M.2 drives, I think the system is buggy. I tried selecting the "Double" option which said it was $10 less than "Single". When I did, the configuration tool would hang. When I tried going to checkout, it said that it couldn't process my configuration, and that I would have to call in to proceed. Switching back to the "Single" configuration fixed the problem and allowed me to order online. You may have the same issue trying to order the 500GB drive without the 16GB cache. -
It's 18% on the normal site. 22% on the Barnes and Noble Gold site. That's with the DOORBUSTER coupon that's supposed to expire soon.
-
FWIW I had no issues with the Intel AC wifi under Linux, it worked out of the box in Ubuntu, including in the installer. Personally I figure that it's only $30 to future proof it for several years so it seemed like a good idea to me.
-
Oh, I don't have that, just SPP which is also 18%.
-
Isnt the DOORBUSTER coupon for the black Friday ?
-
Who knows... Supposedly it was going to expire at midnight EST, but it still seems to work.
-
Discount is 21% instead of 22% now? What?
-
This is what I did, I selected the 500 GB HDD first, then I selected the 128 GB SSD, then I selected the 500 GB again and I was allowed to select / not to select the M2 drives
I added the machine to the cart and it didnt give any error, I have not tried to process the order since I am not still sure about the configuration -
Anybody knows the overweight when choosing the Nvidia graphic card + the SSD cache?
As it is the T440s is just the good weight but I'm afraid with all the options!
Also anybody knows the weight difference when choosing SSD for main drive?
BTW It is on sold of 30% on the Japanese website (code : ADONLINEOFF1128). If anybody wants to group order with me, I can send package worldwide! -
Why don't any of these codes work in Europe? Does Lenovo sometimes have those "ecoupons" for their European webshops?
-
Lenovo codes are specific to each websites where you order, at least it changes with continent. Maybe some are shared between European websites.
-
Nice deals with the sale on right now. I can configure our machines for $100 less than the good business discount we received. You can now spec a T440s with the i5 4300u, Win 8 Pro, FHD screen, 500GB drive, 4GB RAM, AC wireless for about $1225 USD. Another few hundred bucks for your own RAM and SSD and you'll have a killer machine. As cheap as $1081 if all you want is the screen update. That's a great price!

Ubuntu is based on Debian-testing, which supports the AC WLAN in the latest version. The issue I had was with TAILS, which is based on Debian-stable. It will be working in newer distros based on Debian-stable soon enough, but it can still be inconvenient if you want to use Live CDs you've already burned or if you want to use an older version of a distro.
As far as the "future-proof" argument goes, I feel like it only makes sense if you are not comfortable upgrading the WLAN yourself. -
It looks like to buy an extra battery there's a $10 difference in price:
Click on "Batteries" on this page:
Interestingly, that page also shows the 8GB RAM module (part # 0B47381) for $129 (through the system config it costs $210 extra). -

It is more efficient from a power standpoint, but falls short on performance.
Average Cinebench R10: Rendering Multiple CPUs 32Bit:
8369.4 for i7-4500U8998.4 for i5-2540M (Sandy Bridge) in my old T420s, 7.5% faster. The gap would be even greater with the comparable Sandy Bridge i7.
It's the most relevant comparison for me, because it's where I need performance.
Haswell does improve battery life, but with an Ultrabay Battery I get all the battery run-time I need, (YMMV.)
Needless to say, I'm not thrilled by the idea of upgrading without a performance boost. -
On the Canadian website the base model is $983.18 [after coupon] but when you added to your cart it becomes $1,038.66
They add "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11" to your cart automatically, does anyone else have this issue? -
Well, since they're both Intel 7260 (N/AC), I would be surprised if Debian supported one but not the other. From the other thread I think I got the impression that Debian doesn't support either Intel card. But I dunno if anyone with 7260N has actually tested it with Debian.
-
Check the kernel page for the Intel wireless drivers, and the links to the repositories:
iwlwifi - Linux Wireless
It seems the 7260 series has been added in kernel 3.10, but there have been a lot of updates already. Intel clearly is supporting their products quite actively on Linux, which I have to say is nice to see. I don't have a T440s yet to test – still thinking about it – but as always, running the latest kernel on recent hardware is always a good idea. Not sure if you'd get all the functionality and speed of the AC model yet, but I reckon it's being worked on.
If you plan on running Debian stable on anything recent, well, good luck... It works great on servers, but if you have a new laptop it'd be a good idea to either install the Debian minimal net image and switch to unstable or get the latest Ubuntu, which might have a more up-to-date kernel and/or backported drivers. -
I was just responding to someone who is using a Debian stable based distribution and was recommending not to get the 7260AC for driver reasons, which I thought was not a good reason (lack of networks to use it on is a good reason though). Yes, I know very well the importance of running an up to date kernel on this new of a machine and I agree, on new consumer hardware it makes more sense to run Sid or Ubuntu or one of their derivatives. Personally I am running Ubuntu 13.10 and everything besides the touchpad works great.
-
I understand, my reply was meant more generally to other Linux users. It's good to hear everything seems to work fine. I know that the X Synaptics configuration needs a lot of tweaking to get right, I was running Linux on a (workplace) MacBook a few years ago and it took a lot of effort to make it usable compared to more standard trackpads. Palm detection wasn't working back then, I wonder what the current state is.
Are you happy with your SSD and sound? Does the laptop resume correctly after sleep (in Linux)? -

I'm giving in and ordering one. Was smart card reader an option before? It's added by default to the configuration now.
Is there any word on the availability of the 6-cell 47Wh battery? If that'll be available separately later, I'll configure with the 3-cell. -
Well, I think it was optional from the start. My T440s was built on August 12 and already has a Smartcard reader.
I don´t think its available yet, but even if it would be, I would not get one: The size is the same as the normal 72 Wh 6-cell. I think this is just an option in some markets for the T440 to keep the prices a bit lower. -
Are you sure the size will be the same? I have not seen photos of it anywhere yet.
Lenovo France is offering it now, so it's real
Ultrabook ThinkPad T440s | Lenovo | Lenovo (FR) -
Yes, I have seen some pictures some days ago on a chinese site (because I was also interested in the size of the 47 Wh battery), but it is really the same size as the 72 Wh battery. I can´t find the link now.
-
Were there dimensions and weight listed or only picture? Since the 47Wh also uses cylindrical cells, it might look the same but could be slightly smaller. Since I am ordering the Multi-touch model which adds a bit of weight, I'll be interested if the 47Wh is even marginally smaller and lighter.
-
Yes, also according to the PSREF exactly the same size and weight.
-
So I have finally received my T440S yesterday. It's my first Thinkpad.
Overall, I am very impressed! Very decent laptop. Excellent keyboard, good battery, light weight.
I enjoy using both trackpoint and trackpad! I don't know why everyone complained so much about them. Trackpad is not loud at all, and does not feel cheap. Two finger scrolling is very similar to the macbook. I can easily use the trackpoint as well, but I have very large hands.
I am probably not satisfied enough with the screen. I like that it is matte, and the picture quality is very good as well. But for me it is too dim. I usually feel like the brightness is not at the maximum level, but it is. Maybe takes time to get used to it.
And it runs LoL without any problems -
what specs did you get?
-
I went for the (late 2013) MacBook Pro 13 instead of the T440s. Here are a few first impressions:
- It shipped quickly and arrived early even though I chose a custom config (base CPU, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.)
- The LCD is awesome. Zero bleed. Looks great at 1680x1050. No glare issues so far.
- It definitely runs hotter than what people are reporting for the T440s. The fan once became audible. [Update: fan spun up again watching a streaming video with laptop on the bed.]
- To my great surprise I like the keyboard much better than the one on my T410s, which now feels too mushy.
- Trackpad is great.
- Lid has pretty much zero flex.
- Speakers sound much better than those on my T410s.
- SD cards stick out way too far; farther than on the 2011 Air.
- Haven't had time to install Windows, and haven't decided which OS to go with. Still leaning towards Windows.
- The 60 W AC adapter is heavier (and larger?) than the 45 W one for the MacBook Air.
- Only problem so far: Blackberry desktop software not communicating with my Blackberry under OS X. -
TRAITOR
The MBPs are great machines and I actually concur that despite less travel the keyboards actually as good if not better than the T-series. No idea how Apple managed that... some secret sauce no doubt. I'm looking forward to finding out if the new T-series trackpads come close to the silky goodness of the Apple ones (still waiting for Lenovo to bring my T440p ship date forward from the ridiculous estimate).
However, I really loathe OSX and Apple's entire software ecosystem (more of a software prison IMO). I've also had mixed result with MBP reliability... I had a 13" MBP at work last year (late 2011 model I think) and it was constantly crashing or getting crazy hot. My better half's Air, on the other hand, is rock solid. -
Ordered one on November 26. I got it for about 28% as part of an early Cyber Monday kinda deal in New Zealand. With a great a discount like that I splurged and got the i7/12gb/512GB SSD with 6 cell for cheaper than the normal price of the i7/8gb/256! I think I'll buy a 3 cell battery at some point as well, but not till the bank account recovers a bit
I've had quite a few problems with Lenovo's order tracking and only moments ago did I get an estimated shipping date. December 18, arrive on Christmas (so probably later since the post office will close for two days). So much for delivery within 15 days!
I've also had problems with payment. The money was put on hold on my card, but then over the weekend the hold was lifted and not charged. No clue what's going on, the call center was no help. Their Facebook page told me to email them so hopefully I get more info soon!
Edit:
And just like that my delivery has been bumped up to arrive on Christmas Eve. Hopefully this keeps happening and maybe it will actually arrive on time! -
Generally the shipping date is conservative and it's not uncommon for status to suddenly change from "released to manufacturing" to "shipped" well ahead of the estimate. At least that's what I'm hoping this time because otherwise I'll be in for an Xmas delivery, too (I ordered a T440p in the US on Nov. 26)
