Seriously? Yours works now? Did you do anything different? I just tried mine and it's still down. What Keyboard/LCD did you get? I'd bet money you got the Chicony/Samsung combo.

 

He has a t61p with an alps keyboard and he says the screen is beautiful. His review is on the first page.

Got my laptop today, am typing on it at the moment LOL. Turns out, according to PC Wizard 2007, my screen is actually an LG (LP154W02-TL06)...

Ill write a review tomorrow and some pics to come later. Leave me in peace while i fondle with my laptop...

 

What FRU did you have for your screen? Keyboard? What do you think of the screen? Do you have any sparkle? Dead or stuck pixels?

 

Keyboard: sucks. feels like you are typing on cheap plastic. I cant really describe the feeling real well, its the first laptop ive ever used. must be a chicony, but i dont knwo how to verify it on the computer. Plus, theres a noticible bulge around the ultranav (is that what its called?) in the middle of the keyboard. annoying. Ill open the laptop up and have some pics later, see whats up with it.

Screen: what can i say, its a LG (though my part list says samsung). i did the 6-bit gradients test for it and i can hardly notice where the striations are supposed to be. dont konw what this "sparkle" is, but to me, the screen is perfect, no dead pixels or anything. some backlight leakage on top and bottom parts of screen, though i dont know if this is normal (first laptop i have)

the right side of the palm rest (where my fingerprint reader is) seems a little flimsy, as does the part where the screen is. easy gives way even with a finger-pressure test.

No UWB...bastards lol.
I have the ABG wireless card, so im gonna see if i have that magical third antenna for AGN upgradability.

tomorrow im gonna open it up to see if i have the three wireless card antennas, see if i got a UWB antenna, and find out whats up with the bulging keyboard in the middle.

It's seriously your first laptop? Have you used other laptops to compare your keyboard to? It's true laptops have inferior keyboards compared to standalone but can you gauge it relative to other laptops? Minor leakage is very normal, extreme leakage is not. It really depends on how much there is which is hard to tell without a picture. You can't really compare laptops to desktops, do you have any experience with other laptops?

What kind of bulge are you talking about? Does the bulge flex or is it just a solid bulge in the keyboard? I'd be interested in some pics showing what problems you're having. I'm still wondering what laptops you have used that you can compare your T61 to.

I almost don't want to know my part numbers if somedude thought he had a Samsung screen but actually got an LG screen. It makes me wonder how much we can trust looking at the parts page and searching for the FRU. What keyboard and LCD FRU do you have somedude?

google the FRUs (the second set of numbers) in the bolded parts

 

Thanks for the keyboard post, Stallen, I remember from a few months ago someone posting a description of what to look for the pictures make it much clearer.

 

I think some people were mistakenly looking at this line:

42X3996 42X4641 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY ASSEMBLY FRU YES

Instead of this one:

42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES

I think the latter one is the correct FRU since the former has "assembly" at the end. So I think someone falsely stated that the former was a Samsung and several people picked up on in when in reality it doesn't have to do with the manufacturer. Doing a lookup on the latter 42T0423 or 42T0422 doesn't turn up anything but it's LG. So for future reference when people find this post to refer to:


42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES == LG

somedude - I found chicony and samsung with your numbers. Strange that PC Wizard 2007 told you LG. I guess I would believe PC Wizard??

I have heard of Lenovo getting FRU numbers mixed up on keyboards (usually FRU says NMB when it is actually chicony or alps). But i've never heard of a mix-up on the LCD.

 

Lol I couldve sworn at the time my laptop shipped (8/11), it had the words (SUMSUNG) next to the DISPLAY FRU. My eyes nor my memory do not decieve me!

 

Did you look at my recent post? What line were you using to check the manufacturer?

Somedude, what did you use to lookup your manufacturer? I tried doing a lookup on your FRU and I didn't come up with anything? Does anyone remember the link to the official Lenovo PDF that had the FRUs and matching manufacturers? I found the keyboard PDF but not the LCD one.

So it's an LG! That's good. Don't you think there is a good chance that ours will be LG also? I figure they probably build a bunch of them with LG lcds at the same time then when they run out of LG they use up the Samsungs and so on.

 

I really think this is what's going on with thinking it's Samsung. I tried doing a lookup on 42X4641 and some posts loosely refer to it as Samsung but I can't find the actual Lenovo document. I also doing think 42X4641 is the FRU of the LCD.

 

I don't know, it's likely. If somedude's was built around ours, I bet we have the same screen. I couldn't care less about the keyboard, but I'm hoping for the LG screen since I've already seen it and like it.

I was thinking the same thing, though I cant really comment on the possibility that you will get an LG.

In case you were wondering: Originally ordered 7/11, canceled due to "config error", reordered 8/9, shipped 8/11. Shipped from Shenzeng (if location matters)

 

Ya no hits on your FRU for the LCD. Weird. Maybe you have a newer LG LCD because it's very weird to search for the FRU and find nothing. Not even a mention.

Good news for you though 42T0329 seems to be the same part number amitface had on his first laptop. He says so here:

You might ask him about his screen. I remember he didn't like it because it had a lot of screen sparkle which eventually grew to hate. The thing is screen sparkle could just be on just one unit or all of them. It depends. You can have the same LCD and one with bad sparkle and one without. Or you could have a bad batch from a factory. Point being that because amitface had it doesn't mean yours will.

 

I heard my name called in here.. it's funny, when I made that post, Parts Lookup said my FRU was 42T0329. Now I look at it, and it says 42T0328. Googles for both showed up and it seems like these were the same FRU's for the T60s. Not necessarily a bad thing, except..

My screen had terrible sparkle, and the dithering was exceptionally noticeable. (lowspeed talks about this in some threads. I had the same problem) I'm not telling you to expect the worst. It is very likely I had an unusual case.

What is an import scan??..it has been going through this since 8/16 12:06pm...and with the latest scan of 8/17 at 12:19am..it is still undergoing import scans

Mine doesn't even have an estimated delivery date. My UPS rep I talked to over the phone said tomorrow 8/17 but I'm not going to be here anyway so it'll be until at least Monday when I get mine. Lenovo is suppose to reroute the package to my new residence half way across the country. By that time everyone else will have theirs.

The UPS page says it was shipped/billed on 8/15, but the email I got from lenovo says: Electronic Receipt for Invoice 626**** -- shipped on 08/14/2007

So somewhere between 8/14 and 8/15 I guess

I know my package got upgraded to express so the rep told me because I was on the "critical list". The same might have happened to you guys. I don't know. Express is a good thing though.
