Keyboard service parts - ThinkPad R61 14.1inch widescreen (type 7732, 7733, 7734, 7735, 7738, 7742, 7743, 7744, 7751, 7755) / T61 14.1inch widescreen (type 6480, 6481, 7658, 7659, 7660, 7661, 7662, 7663, 7664, 7665)
If you look at the 15.4" page it doesn't have it. Was your laptop 14"? I suppose it might be possible that they used some of the 14.1" keyboards on the 15.4" models since they're the same I think. -
-
My screen is a POS Samsung. I think it is the worst screen I have ever seen.
The colors are washed out, it's very dull, sparkle... just horrible.
I didn't think I cared about viewing angles, but this is ridiculous. If you just moved your head up or down 4-5" out of the sweet spot the picture start to fade.
I'm very disappointed. I would have rather had an LG with the worst keyboard. Keyboards can be purchased and replaced very easily, but I've never heard of anyone replacing the LCD themselves. -
Do you see why I sold my T60 with a Samsung WSXGA+ panel?!! I have the same panel in a Z61m that I've kept, its just as bad so I don't think it's a bad batch of LCDs or a quality control issue.
People do replace screens (see forums at forum.thinkpads.com) but it is costly and usually done to put in a Flexview IPS (which will never be available in a widescreen formart).
What FRU number was listed in your parts list?
*EDIT* I saw you already posted, sorry.

Can you guys define exactly what "screen sparkle" is?
-
Sad to hear about the screen Stallen.
I think the T61 I ordered is in an abyss because the stupid Lenovo rep could not give me a straight answer about my notebook and its delay. He promised to call me back next week. Lenovo's CTO is very inefficient. I just decided to buy my T61 from a third party reseller (which is about same price anyway with taxes).
I hope everyone's T61 is satisfactory. -
Screen sparkle is the same as graininess? -
I still have an active order (the one I placed on 7/11 with UWB). I'd like to roll the dice again and see if that one will have an LG. They won't give a full refund/no restocking fee without ordering another?I mean I want a damn thinkpad. I will settle if my other ends up being a samsung as well. ....torn
Maybe I should just get a T61P. It seems like those people are impressed with there samsung. I wonder if they are just impressed with the "real-estate" or if it is actually better in the areas that concern me. I really don't want that extreme of a resolution on such a small screen. uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. what to do.... -
anyways, I would give my computer a good 2 week chance...if I don't like it by then...I'll get an RMA issued and order a new notebook...then have it actuallys ship out on the 9th day of the RMA (i dont have a notebook currently...my last HP crapped out on me...so I'm just using my sisters notebook in the interim)...and hopefullly by the 9th day...my new order should be on its way....so there should only be a few days gap in between sending out my crap samsung notebook and getting a new one -
EDIT
Here is my FRU for my LCD...
-
haha, get this UPS was delayed because of weather:
-
Hey somedude can you confirm that you actually do have
42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY
For your screen and it really was an LG? If you and Stallen (and I) have the same FRU but different screens than it throws out the entire idea that you can tell what screen you have by the FRU at least for this. It is unlikely but possible that they put the wrong screen on one of the laptops. -
My screen is 42T0408. I think it is a Samsung. The only reason I think that is, because when I Google it I get a hit here on the forum that infers it. How does one know for sure? Does anyone have any side by side photos of the two LCDs?
-
according to http://www.acsparts.com/42T0408-ThinkPad.html that is a 975$ LCD
-
I found that too, but of course there were no references to panels manufacturer.
-
-
If he has a 15.4" WUXGA then there is no need to guess. There is only one option. Samsung. (for Thinkpads anyway)
-
@Stallen,
So, there is only one manufacturer of WUXGA panels for the Thinkpad, and its Samsung. Well that solves it. Do you think my unit will say T61p on the LCD label?
@xnviews,
According to Lenovo I have a T61, and not a T61p. The exact model is 6462CT. It is possible to configure a T61 the way mine is. It is purchase portal dependent, but I will accept the fact that me, my video card, and my screen are not wanted here.(slinks away to look for WUXGA focused threads)
-
-
I will try it on Monday after I actually get it.
-
-
OK, well I guess it better make me happy then because there are no alternatives.
-
what do you think would make you happy?
-
500:1 contrast ratio, ~200 nit, 0 dead pixels, 0 stuck pixels, very little to NO light leakage, and no sparkle = happy camper
-
*Cross fingers* LG LG LG LG
I wont know until early next week though *sigh* -
I had a BSOD 20 minutes out of the box. It happened after I removed a USB drive, closed the lid/screen (which put it into sleep or hibernation) then when I opened the lid/screen it BSODed.
I was up late working this thing over. I installed 4GB OCZ RAM, Hitachi 7K200 (7200.2RPM 200GB), did a clean install using my guide to convert from 32-bit to 64-bit!!!
The LCD is a piece of $hit, but the performance is smokin'!! I'm not kidding. This thing was so slooooow out of the box that I was scared. Probably one of the reasons I was so bitter about the screen. I was just in an all around bad mood with this thing.
At least it's fast now! -
Stallen are you running vista?
-
Ya Vista is a dog out of the box. I put my 200MB slimmed down version of XP on it and it flies! I don't know how anyone can put up with manufacturer preinstall.
-
It feels almost as responsive as my desktop dual-core with 2 x 10000 RPM raptors RAID 0, 2GB RAM with XP. (Of course, I'm only talking about boot-ups, application launch times, and basic stuff) I haven't tried doing any file encoding/video transcoding or anything heavy. I'm sure there is no way it could keep up with my desktop with that sort of thing. -
My laptop has been stuck in the same place for 36 hours now *sigh*:

So far I've installed Office 2007 enterprise, Adobe Master Collection (programs such as Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects and so on), AnyDVD, CloneDVD, Nero 7 Ultra, Slingplayer, Picasa, Firefox, and a 64-bit driver for my Canon MP530 printer. I haven't had a chance to do much yet besides install and make sure everything opens without errors. (Office had an error until I allowed it to go on-line and auto update now it is perfect).
I don't suspect having any issues whatsoever. As long as you make sure there are 64-bit drivers available for any hardware you plan to connect (as I did with my printer) it's all good. Also, it is important to make sure any old applications (which may have some 16-bit script) or specialty applications that are not mainstream are compatible. But heck some of those programs might not even work on 32-bit Vista. -
Great! I use the Adobe applications you mentioned quite a bit as well as Illustrator. There are three applications that I am particularly concerned about and they are Endnote X1 (reference manager), ChemOffice Ultra (simple molecular modeling program), and Origin 7.5 (data analysis program). Very little info is available from these companies on 64 bit compatibility, so I guess I am blind until I get the OS installed.
-
Stallen I'm glad to hear everything is going good with your new T61.
For me I'm equaly as please with the speed of my T61 I haven't had any problems with vista, boots up under 40-50 seconds and shut down is about the same. No errors or BSODs to be found for me and I haven't even done my clean install of Vista yet. There were a lot of worries for me before buying this laptop because I so without a lot of research, I decided I needed a lap top and the next day morning I ordered this one online. The screen could be a bit better for me as well, but I think this is a great computer. -
Ordered on the 15th, shipped on the 18th according to the e-mail from Lenovo I just recieved. Scheduled delivery is 21st.
-
I did run a dead/stuck pixel utility. I couldn't find any issues there. -
We are a MS campus, so I have access to all the bit variations of Ultimate and Enterprise. I haven't found anything conclusive concerning the applications, but I admit I have not done any exhaustive scrutinizing.
Edit: Did a little more digging, and it would appear that I am locked into the 32-bit version for now unless I decide to run a Virtual PC with a 32-bit Vista/XP in the 64-bit Vista. Kinda cumbersome for the apps I need and my usage pattern... -

Looks to me like they all work, but with some minor issues (well, they could be major to you). -
The quirks are some of the most important features for manuscript preparation. Well, time will cure the ills. I plan t use this laptop for about 3-4 years, so I am sure 64-bit apps will appear in this time.

Who else is still waiting for their machine?

waiting to ship? or arrive?

For those of you with recent arrivals or shipped but still waiting for T61 15.4 NVIDIA 140M delivery, have you looked up your warranty status? I think they gave 3 yr depot upgrade by mistake, can you check yours as well.
Im confused about this:
The website says product warranty is: 1 year labor, 3 year parts. Think the general understanding is that Lenovo only offers a 1 year warranty...you have to pay more for better/longer service. Did they change their standard warranty from 1 year only to 3 years parts, 1 year labor?
