T61 Delayed

The BBB are people you don't whine to when a seller doesn't charge you for a service you don't like and don't end up using anyway. If you do, then you are an idiot wasting our government's resources (ie. our tax money).

Better Business Bureau is an agency of the government that deals with businesses that are doing bad, fraudulent practices. Usually people complain to the BBB if they were cheated by a business. For example, if you bought a widget of Brand X from John Q. Store for $5000 and John Q. Store shipped you a counterfeit Brand X widget, then you could complain to the BBB.

The reason why most of the Lenovo customers here are complaining to the BBB is because they are unhappy about the obvious Thinkpad delays, but at best, their cases are very stupid. Lenovo does not charge people unless the laptop ships, which means that people can opt out any time before shipment happens. This means that no fraud has been committed, and this is just a simple situation of people whining about their own mess. Unless you lost something of tangible value, the situation was completely out of your hands, and Lenovo was completely responsible for it, you DO NOT have a case with the BBB. Bottom line is: Yes, Lenovo is horrible for taking so long to ship the laptops, but the worst thing you can do to them is cancel your order and take your business somewhere else. Until then, bit** and complain on these forums to each other and suck it up, like myself.

In case it wasn't clear, this is all fact, not an "IMO" post.

 

Seriously the BBB is gov. run? I always thought it was a private organization... If it were gov. run wouldn't it be bbb.gov?

Yup. You're certainly an anomaly. Are you sure they weren't just trying to hold/check for funds or something?

In the beginning of this fiasco, I also felt that a complaint to the BBB was not warranted. However I have changed my position, and since filing, now have gotten several issues cleared up and get regular updates.

My reasoning for filing was simple. Lenovo could not provide the goods in a timely fashion.

You see my family owns several hotels and when we have issues with a supplier, we are entitled to file a complaint with the BBB. The reasoning is that they should provide the goods as advertised (regardless of “estimate” vs “guarantee” delivery dates) or let us know that they cannot fulfill the order.

Taking orders and constantly pushing them back is a breach of “good faith estimates” and wastes our resources (financial and time wise) which effectively hurts our ability to pay OTHER SUPPLIERS. This leads to excess finance charges.

Remember that what Lenovo does is a “pre authorization” which holds money on your card. So if you have a $5,000.00 card limit and they place a hold of $2,000.00 for your order, you cannot use your card for anything else beyond the remaining $3,000.00. Add to the fact that your order takes over a month to delivery, they are legally liable for time/financial damages. (Remember that suppliers charge interest for past due invoices)

If Lenovo didn’t place a pre authorization, then they could never verify your credit limit and the ability to pay.

We’ve filed complaints with the BBB over several hotel supply issues and usually get them resolved or get finance charges dropped.

The only problem is that I legally don’t have a leg to stand on because I could cancel and order another laptop. Due to personal preference, I will wait out the delay.

Lenovo strung us along and changed estimated ship dates over and over again. The BBB accepts complaints no matter what and later decides the merit of the complaint. It is not a waste to complain and you will probably be happier if you did.

I have no way of knowing until or if it clears, but from my point of view a hold for funds and charging to my account is basically the same thing. The money isn't available to me.

 

In addition, note that if you used a check card for the transaction the amount held does not generate any interest cuz it is not really in your account...

 

My T61 (14.1 WXGA+ w/o camera, 2 GB, 100 GB - 7200 rpm, Intel 4965AGN, DVD R/W, XP Pro) ordered on 5/29 was shipped on 6/21.

There was no email from Lenovo.

I found out only because of my Online Banking and noticed an authorization from Lenovo. Before getting excited though (they authorized me 3 times before which totaled $5400 … that took another 45 min phone call to correct), I manually checked the status of my order … and lo and behold, it shipped.

UPS shows EXPRESS shipping, an EXPORT SCAN on 6/22 from CHEK LAP KOK, HK and a delivery date of 6/25.

Fingers crossed.

 

Finally my T61 has been shipped on 6/22; officially I got an email from lenovo. Original shipping date is 6/26.
I noticed the shipping thr the status check web last night(6/21).

FYI, I ordered a T61 on 5/13 from lenovo and cancelled it.
Finally I ordered an upgraded version (w/ camera, T7500, etc) on 6/7.
My spec is summarized as follows: 14.1 WXGA+ with camera, NVS 140M, 2GB, 100GB(7200rpm), Intel 4965AGN, DVD RW, VISTA HOME BASIC (I will reinstall XP) and Turbo 1GB, and 7 Cell.

FYI, I also got a free 6 cell battery from lenovo as "good gesture gift" due to suffering from eternal shipping delay.

When did you cancel/reorder? I ordered my t61 (15.4") on June 5, ESD June 29...

I'm not understanding how some people are getting UPS Express shipping and the rest of us poor slobs are getting only UPS Expedited (as I mentioned on the Lenovo Blog this is a misnomer).

It doesn't sound like some of these people payed extra for express they just got it as a freebie.

Just another thing that rubs me the wrong way with Lenovo.

 

just got off the phone with lenovo. after my Meyer EPP order was canceled, i ordered again with a legit EPP from my dad's former co-worker. ordered on the 18th...and ugh. 4-5 week shipping estimate. this blows. display backorder excuse.

 

UPS overseas shipping Express and Expedited is only 1-2 days of difference. I ship UPS overseas all the time.

 

My friend and I ordered the exact same T61 on the exact same day...5/15. We both got shipment confirmation email from lenovo yesterday. His status page shows shipped with tracking info. My stauts still shows in process. Does this mean mine didn't ship?

 

That may be true, but since I've been waiting since 5/9 Lenovo could have spent the extra $$$ to get me a computer a few days sooner. It would have arrived on Monday instead of Thursday according to the UPS Time-in-Transit calculator.

 

Well I finally cancelled my order. It took 3 reps before it happened. The first two said they need to send a request and it may take a week to process. The third guy was very helpful and did it instantly over the phone.

Bottom line, keep calling till you get a rep that can do their job.

 

wow, i thought I would be ok after getting a shipping notice from lenovo. Now i'm just freaking out over the shipping time. I am bound to be an pissed until it literally sits in my naked lap.

 

Today afternoon I called Lenovo, the Customer service guys told me that It will take a week's time to ship my item.

I received just now shipment confirmation mail. Although the status in the website is not updated.(they say it may take 24hrs to update the details)

Google, I would be a little weary about that shipment email. Just like you I recieved a shipment confirmation email without my status changing on the order status page. I called them up and they said my computer has not shipped and they couldn’t explain why I recieved the shipment confirmation email.

Let me ask you a question which might clear things up for the both of us. Did you purchase the 3 year upgrade warranty, or any kind of warranty upgrade?

Also, check to see if your credit card has been charged. That would give you a better indication of if it actually shipped or not.

I would personally not believe what the customer service guy says after the experience I had today. They either don't know what they are doing since the data they have is minimal? or the updates they get are a bit delayed than actual customer. In some cases the reps are new and seem to be ultra confused by the whole fiasco for may orders. They seriously need to upgrade the whole ordering thing.

Congrats guys. It looks like Lenovo is finally getting around to things for us.

 

I had someone call me from Lenovo this week and tell my my order will ship between 6/26 and 6/29 (Ordered 5/10). The reason for the call: I told my sales rep I didn't want the junk (no I didn't say "junk")they offered as a free gift and if they can discount the notebook, I'd rather the money off. They won't do it.

I assume the T61 won't be in my hands until July 6th or 9th. The Dell 1330 should be available to order by July 10th and I plan to leave the T61 unopened until the end of that week to see if the Dell lives up to the hype. If it does, I'm placing the order and sending the T61 back for a full refund. If not, well then I'll give the T61 a try.

The Dell has the 13.3" screen, it better fits to replace my X31. This experience with Lenovo has virtually wiped away any brand loyality I had with the ThinkPad.

Great minds think alike. I plan on doing the same thing. I'm pissed I didn't get my thinkpad yet but now that I see the M1330 I'm not as pissed. If I don't have my thinkpad by the time the Dell M1330 is released I will order it. Right now I'm not confident I will get the laptop between the June 26-29th date being quoted

 

Why would you pass on something free? You can always sell it on ebay to get some extra cash.

 

The Lenovo lepechrauns must be working overtime this weekend. My 5/28 order just shipped. Not only that - I placed another order (identical config.) on 6/14 and that one shipped, too! Yay!

Same here. My T61 that I ordered on 5/29 had to be rebooked. It was just shipped today (6/23). This is definately a good sign for all of the "critical orders." I guess it looks like everything might make it through by 6/26.

Wow, I just checked my order status and what do you know… mine shipped too!!

I ordered the system on 5/24/07

They still haven't calculated the prices correctly though and I'm really dreading the headache that I will have to endure to get them to do it (if that’s even possible).

I have a couple of questions:

When they said they will honor the original deals we got when we ordered, did they mean they will keep the original price? Because 25% off (Memorial Day sale) of today’s price is ~$100.00 less than my original price.

For those who received their systems already, How much time did it take between being shipped and actually arriving?

I ordered 2-3 weeks before these three guys and tons of other people on this board. I'm still sitting here waiting, having lenovo tease me with false shipment confirmation emails.

 

Yay! Mine just shipped too. Ordered 5/30, had a shipping date of 9/3 the entire time, with ZERO contact with lenovo. I'm so glad it shipped.

 

Hang on, jd1010, yours may have fallen off the conveyor belt and they are putting it back together again. At least, things are moving and all parts seem to be in stock.

 

Well, my 5/17 order was zeroed and wiped by Lenovo's rebooking efforts. I have a second order that was placed on 6/16. My rep quit the day he was supposed fix my 5/17 order. I complained on the lenovoblog, and Tim Supple asked about the order disappearing, and he ended up helping me cancel my messed up 5.17 order and place my 6.16 order on the critical shipping list (whatever that really means). now i am just waiting, hoping that my order will really be on the critical shipping list and that i am still eligible for the freebie.

 

My laptop is now (supposedly) shipped.

My initial order date was 5/20, a rebook on 5/24, and another rebook on 6/18.

I am afraid, however, that it may be something messed up... I can't believe I would have gotten it so quickly >_> It doesn't have my order # yet...

 

Mine supposedly shipped too! I didn't get the email confirmation yet, but my order status page already changed to "shipped." However, I'm still skeptical. Why are there suddenly a zillion people getting theirs shipped? Until I see the tracking number tomorrow, I'll postpone celebrating.

Mine hasn't shipped yet. I cancelled it, but it still shows active. I ordered 6/21 though, only 2 days ago.

 

My order from 5/21, which was rebooked on 6/20 with a new EST of 8/27 hasn't shipped yet.

It's annoying because they can charge my credit card but they can't ship the damn thing out.
