    Someone help me out here.

I don't have a way back machine, so I can't see the web pages that I used to configure my system ordered on 7/11 @ 2:36pm (should have saved them too I guess). I do have my original detailed parts list, which of course shows WUSB and UWB, but I honestly don't recall selecting this, nor do I remember this being an option.

My understanding from reading the specs for the T61p is that UWB/WUSB was part of the base configuration, just like the NVIDIA graphics, WUXGA screen, etc.

Does anyone have a screenshot showing the option that they can share?

I ordered on 7/17 LaptopGuru, and my experience is similar to yours. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the detailed printout of all the part numbers, but I remember seeing "UWB" on there. I think the case is if you ordered on the website before a certain date you got it. If you ordered on the website after a certain date you didn't. And that's just all there is. Possibly folks who ordered over the phone had more options that way at some point.

    Anyone understand differently?

Ok, in checking the HMM, I find the following... but I still don't remember it being an option:

    PCI Express Mini Card
    - ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter
    - Intel PRO Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter
    - ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter
    - Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
    - Sierra Wireless EV-DO Wireless WAN Mini PCI Express Adapter
    - Sierra Wireless MC8775 PCI Express MiniCard
    - KDDI Wireless WAN Modem Adapter
    - Wireless USB PCI Express Half-Mini Card

Mine is posted back a few pages, and looks similar -- the same germain details:

    42X1455 SBB GEO LBL US,WLAN,BLT,UWB
    42V8643 SBB 15"WUXGAW/BTW/OWWANW/UWB
    42V8600 SBB UWB ANTENNA
    42X0842 SBB NVIDOAFX570MW/WWAN,W/AMT

It would be nice if we could get a straight answer from someone at Lenovo (Tim Supples or someone else) as far as what is really going on, and what the game plan is. If this is a repeat of the T61 debacles I am going to be pretty disappointed.

I just received an email from a customer service rep mentioning that the T61p will likely be delayed till 8/30 (for people who ordered on 7/11 or 7/12). The part that is missing is #42T0884. I did a google search, and can't seem to find what this missing part is. Anyone happen to know?

I just checked my order details, no 42T0884, or anything similar (tried some variants).

The only 42T item is this:

    42T6638 *SBB PACK. US, 15.4"

Which I am guessing is packing materials, manuals, whatever.

Please don't tell me that they are delaying shipping for months because of lack of packing materials. When I got my t60 widescreen it came without manuals and the like. Of course I got them all in a manila envelope four months after I had sold the T60.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Lenovo, they said that the problem is an invisible part that you can't see on the order configuration and it has something to do with the wireless card. Those parts are going to be to the factory sometime this weekend and the laptops needing this part are supposed to ship monday the 13th. The site should update in the evening on monday.

From what I got from their CSR yesterday the delay as we all well know is the monitor. But before you cry BS... look at two things:

    1. The UWB antenna is integrated into the WUXGA screen, much like a WWAN antenna is.

    2. If you place an order for a 15.4" T61p now, notice that the monitor screen is no longer "May delay your shipmeng by 3 - 4 week."

So this corroborates that they are making T61ps now without UWB integrated monitors in order to speed up shipping. And until their supply issue is resolved they might not ever include anymore in that series. I don't know if that's a good thing because those that wait will get access to newer technology when it comes available, or a bad thing cause we're basically paying for something that might not get serviced if a replacement is needed.

Either way, that's the hold up.

I spoke to my CDW Enterprise Account Manager (I work for a company that deploys nothing BUT IBM/Lenovo equipment) and informed me that they are currently backordered on about 55 models of T61p's and none of them will have UWB. They currently have 45 already ordered so there currently are 10 left to order if you wanna go through them. However, they are expecting their shipment in on the 21st of August to those that pre-ordered, and the remaining will be online for sale August 30th.

Just got a call from my Lenovo Acct. Rep this morning and she said those that are on the critical list (myself included) will start seeing their Thinkpads the week of the 20th for those who ordered the first week... and the rest will see theirs start to ship by the end of that week, and on in to the last week of August.

Nope, they took it off a few weeks ago to speed up shipping. That's the part that is causing the delay.

Do we have an actual before/after date for when WUSB was removed from orders at the site?

I'm still sitting on a 7/17 order date with an 8/17 ESD. I check it a couple times per day. Hasn't changed, and no unhappy emails from Lenovo yet.

Jedi is absolutely correct. I ordered my T61p on July 30th and mine was shipped today. I did not order the UWB antenna as it was no longer an option. I have mixed feelings on this but am for the most part okay with it. It would be nice to have the latest technology, but seeing that there are no apps for UWB it seems excessive. When UWB products do come out they will be quite pricey. Seeing as I will likely be buying a new laptop in two years I am okay with it. That is my justification anyhow. There is always a hub if need be.

I just got off the phone with Tony, the courteous Lenovo Executive Relations guy who seems to have better connections to their supply chain, whereas the normal CSR's are mostly ignored.

Here's my update for T61P maxed out for speed and 1GB of RAM.

Apparently, on T-Day, 7/11, the configuration of 512MBx2 Dimm didn't work internally. I believe this is why all of a sudden, prices changed to make it that 512x2 cost the same as 1GBx1. Because Lenovo supply chain may have realized there was a glitch with the ability to actually book a 512, 1 stick or 2. It wasn't that there was zero inventory of 512's. Strangely enough, they think all orders on that day of the base RAM option basically never went anywhere, their database got all confused.

Today, Tony is rebooking the order for me, and is changing my order from 512x2 to 1GBx1, I don't think they understand how the database is getting futzed, but the response seems to be just to rebook my order with the same order number, move me to the 1 stick, and move on with life. He offered me an additional 1GB stick, to which I said thanks, but I already have plans for 4GB of memory of micron that I got from www.ewiz.com, could you maybe send me an extra 9-cell battery instead.

He replied that he could do that, and he will also be honoring all of the original order's pricing with the USPJULYT72 10% coupon, my 100.00 off due to shipping issues, and the EPP discount. I only hope the fatwallet and Tailormade can keep track of all this, but at this point i'm okay with losing fatwallet just to have the laptop ship. Tailormade I'm thinking it will still work because I'm still spending the amount listed, or at least a little below, but something tells me with Tailormade having their own customer services I may be able to work it out with them.

So all in all, hopefully I'm getting a laptop around when Jeremy gets his, I asked for 4 year depot upgrade moving to 4 year on-site, but he said he can't do it without canceling the order completely, so I sense that's a dead end. Which I guess isn't bad cuz I'm still getting the original 100.00 for shipping delays, and an additional 161.00 value out of the additional 9-cell they're sending me. It's not the 500.00 I asked for, but it's something.

Extra information about the critical list- The critical list, by word of Tony, puts you at the top of the manufacturing list for that laptop model number, given that all of the parts for that MODEL of laptop are all there. What this means is, if someone gets put on critical for a 2.2ghz processor with z config, he does not affect me with the 2.4ghz processor with z config. Whoever gets rebooked goes to critical for that particular cpu, mobo, ram, model combination etc. Whenever all those parts are all available in real time to be grabbed, that is when that laptop gets made, given the constraints on who is on what separate critical list.

I know it doesn't make much sense, but if anyone catches a whiff of an idea, that's all I know we can hope for.

Does this mean you shouldn't order 512x2? Tony says no, it's not the physical RAM, it was a databasing issue. Do I trust them enough to order a new T61P w/ 512x2, resounding NO. If they don't trust the system enough to stick me back with 512x2, then you all shouldn't either.

The take home: Everyone ordering a T61P should probably opt for greater than or equal to 1GBx1. (I realize the pricing may be the same by this point, but it may later change due to supply and demand. If 1GB's become short in supply, they will make the 512's much cheaper, or also make 2GB's some cheaper. < Learned from MBA class case study on Dell/HP pc supply and demand conditions.)

UWB Update! If your laptop had UWB on its order, and you can prove it was there, you WILL get UWB, it should not be removed! They will simply not ship your order rather than send out an incomplete order! (Tony) Therefore, yes new laptops may not have UWB, but all the old laptops that were able to get it either will have it, or have the right to request that it be found and integrated onto that laptop.

    Hey all,

I placed my T61 14 WideScreen order on 08/05 and the estimated shipping date is 08/23.

I have seen so many ppls's T61 ordered during the last weekend being shipping recently, thus I called Lenovo to inquiry the status of my order. However, they told me that my shipping date is 08/28 though my order was sent for production may be one or two days ago. They even told me that the order may be delayed until the begining of Sep.

Since I have to come back to school in another state by 08/18. I can not receive the order after that at my current address.

What should I do? Do they really ship that late? How long it needs for production? May I change the shipping address after placing the order? Since it may cause some issue about the tax. If not, Is it true that if I have not got my order shipped by next Monday, I have to cancel to order?

So many questions, really need your comments.

    best,

    saisai

Saisai, it's probably coming late. You can change the shipping address if it hasn't shipped yet. Production lead time is a nebulous number. Shipping address probably doesn't change your billing address, therefore if your billing address is in the correct state, you should be okay. It is better for you not to cut it close and possibly lose your laptop, have it sent to school. Yes, they are that slow.

    Dear Kebs,

Thanks for your prompt reply. If I change the shipping address, will they charge me the tax? Since I bought this one during a tax holiday in NM, I will go to FL in less than two weeks and never come back.

    Thanks!

Yup, I misread it :) I thought you said that you didn't have UWB. Anyway, If you have UWB then you should have WUSB. WUSB operates over a UWB antenna, so, you should have it.

Nope, I ordered my T61 3 weeks ago and originally tried to bill it to my Montana address (where there's no sales tax), but ship it to my Washington address (where there is sales tax). They tried to charge me sales tax. I called Lenovo and explained that there was no tax at my billing address, but they said there was nothing they could do and the tax had to be based off of the shipping address.

I ended up having it shipped to Montana just to dodge the sales tax. It's worth waiting an extra couple of weeks until I get back to Montana in order to not let Uncle Sam screw me out of $150.

saisai, I ordered on 8/2/07 with an ESD of 9/4/07, but it shipped today 8/10/07, but seeing as it took 8 days to get it shipping, they MAY or MAY NOT ship it on the 13th (very rough estimating here), and shipping takes 5 days (someone wanna clarify on that?).

What I'm saying is, if you're optimistic, it can come RIGHT on time.

I am so utterly pissed off right now.. I see people talking about ordering in early august and getting their laptops shipped this week.. I ordered on July 20th and a few days after ordering my ship date was moved to 8/22 .. sucks but I figured it was ok.. I log in today to check again as I've heard people say dates were slipping.. September 11th is now my targeted ship date.. I decided to google around and see what others were saying about the slow ship dates and I see a bunch of mixed experiences on here..

I'm on hold with lenovo right now.. we'll see what they can do.. any tips?

    btw here's my specs:

Um, guys, I honestly don't believe it, but here's what just happened:

Got an email from a CSR I spoke to earlier this week just now. It says my item has shipped, then goes on to list a port replicator. Now, keep in mind, I ordered a configured t61p + a port replicator, and the port replicator arrived like 2 weeks ago. But there's a note from the CSR in the email which says that he's sorry for the delay in getting back to me, and my item shipped today. So I'm thinking they sent me another port replicator or something.

    BUT.

I just logged into their website. Port replicator shows the original shipping date weeks back. And now, for the first time, my t61p (which still lists having UWB/WUSB) shows IT SHIPPED TODAY, and that a tracking number will be available tomorrow once their system updates. I had chosen 2 day shipping, so I suppose I may actually have this thing on Tuesday.

I still don't believe it, so I'm on hold with Lenovo right now to check, but here's to hoping. Anyone else check order status today on their website? FYI, I ordered on 7/27.

Okay, folks, I just got off the phone with Lenovo. They claim my t61p did ship today and just sent me a tracking number. I'm in the US and this was a configured system. I'll be amazed if it actually shows up and is what I really ordered, including the UWB/WUSB stuff.

Kebs, you lost your Tailormade, that expried end of July.

as to proving that it had UWB, Lenovo very sneakily removed our ability to see the config online and never sent it in the original order email.
Time will tell if we get screwed out of this or not, but your Tailormade is gone, and probably gone for everyone since your card will not be charged until the item ships.

Lucky for me that I was so happy to have ordered the P that I posted it on this forum with the config. We'll see if this holds water or not. Lenovo hasn't shown itself to be very ethical so far, so I'm not holding my breath.

Now I'm really confused. I had the CSR email me a copy of my "order" and there's no UWB/WUSB listed. But it still shows up on My Account in Lenovo.com under the part number I ordered.

Guess I won't be able to tell anything until it gets here and I go into the Device Manager and look myself!!

Okay, so same as me, you're in California and configured a system on their website and ordered it. Pre-config means buying a preconfigured system stock with no modifications to memory, hard drive size, etc. Those are available in Canada among other places.

    Wisdom, yours is a 61P, 15.4" WUXGA(as opposed to a 61, or the 61p 14.1" 4:3) ?
