Wisdom, futher to my email, I confirmed with cs that it did in fact ship, that means 6 days from order date, I also confirmed tracking number they gave me with UPS. Wow! I my original esd was sept. Oh, cs said it came from North Carolina if that makes a difference.

You, like me, had the order shipped very quickly. This is because our order included a WWAN antenna and not the UWB antenna. Everybody who is waiting ordered before mid-July and wanted the UWB antenna.

 

Just got off the phone with a Lenovo CSR and after much complaining he finally broke down and told me the story...at least I believe him because it all made sense.

He said the problem is the WUSB is in fact built into the display. The WUSB is the ONLY PART that is on backorder right now. The customers that ordered after WUSB was removed will recieve their orders within Lenovo's typical 1-2week period while the rest of us will wait until the WUSB displays come in which he admitted could be a very lengthy period of time. His suggestion was order another laptop without WUSB and when one ships cancel the other one.

Personally, I do not feel comfortable doing that though I am contemplating cancelling the order with WUSB. Why? Two reasons:

1) It could take forever to get here. He admitted they don't even know when enough monitors will get in to fill all of the orders they took.
2) If finding a display with WUSB is THIS FREAKIN HARD I wonder if, in the future, my display is faulty will it take them 10 weeks to fix it because they won't be able to get a replacement?? I can't wait 2 months for my order to ship and if I have a problem that the warranty covers wait another 2mo. for Lenovo to get this aparently rare comodity.

So there you have it, that seems to make all of the pieces fit in my mind at least.

Mine had no WWAN, but did have UWB. Now, we'll see if it arrives with it as ordered.

 

Well, crap, if this means mine shipped because some dolt went in and changed my order to not include the WUSB, I'm going to be pissed. That is one of the reasons I bought the t61p. We'll see early next week when I get it. Device Manager in Vista doesn't lie!

 

So that makes sense why they would say the screen may delay your order, even though people were saying how its not the screen that is delaying the order, its only the WUSB.

I wonder if we cry loud enough can we get a T61p w/o WUSB sent and then swap out for a WUSB when our WUSB model gets here...

 

Well, if mine doesn't end up having it, I'm going to cause a ruckus as my confirmation email on my order lists it. Should be interesting.

Too much work on their part and it's not worth it financially to do so. From their perspective: If you ordered a model with it, you get it. If not, you don't.

 

If they don't stop BS'ing me on ship dates... this is what they're gonna do.. mark my words! If they'd have left my ship date as 8/31 and told me 8/31 repeatedly... I'd be fine w/it. Instead they're jerking me around and telling me "yeah, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow" over and over. It's getting to be ridiculous. I'm gonna try it when I get home if I call and get a different ship date I wanna try the 15.4" 1920x1200 screen anyway before I buy one for me

Hmm, I'm guessing by the fact that there are quite a few people that had their shipped out today, that Lenovo wasn't lying about T61p's being shipped out on the 10th. Wonder when the next shipment is.

 

Better yet, they should actually INCLUDE the freakin UWB antenna, and maybe we could ask them to ship us the WUSB module later on so we can install it manually ourselves.

 

That won't work, becasue when someone breaks something while installing WUSB, they will cry to lenovo about it.

 

I can confirm having bluetooth. There's no status light for it though, in fact, the only way I can even power it on is through the Thinkvantage utilities.

I also can confirm having WUSB, that also has to be accessed through Thinkvantage stuff (as far as I know, but I haven't really looked into it.)

 

There is no winning, just hope for divine intervention and maybe you will have your lappy by Christmas. The amount of anger from people here is astounding, but it tells me one thing. They are not mad that they don't have a computer yet, they are mad because they don't have a THINKPAD yet. So to all I do realize that waiting may possibly rank 432.98739 on the list of horrible forms of torture, but in the end it will be worth it, granted you may cancel and order the T70p they day before your 61p will ship, but how much greater will it be and the wait for it greater still.

Okay so.....

I ordered another T61P on August 8th. Tony at Executive Relations just told me that it has shipped. That means somehow with this non-UWB configuration, they managed to get a laptop out in 2 days. TWO DAYS. What the heck?!
I'm not sure whether or not I'll want to make an issue about receiving my original order with UWB, but i'll have to leave a message for Tony maybe on Monday. Strangely enough, they might just end up shipping both laptops, which would be a strange conundrum indeed.

 

Kebs, did you still get your tailormade discount? I contacted AMEX and they told me that as long as the original purchase was made in July, you are still eligible for the discount. It does not matter when the card is charged, but when the purchase was made. At least thats what they told me.

 

Jpacelli, that's what I'm hoping for, I have to call in and make sure Tony doesn't cancel my original order because it's the one holding onto my Tailormade 10% off.

Everyone else:

My T61P ordered 7/11, for shipping 7/30, that got bumped to 8/31, just got bumped to 9/11. I don't think there's any sort of light at the end of this tunnel folks. Looks like that UWB is a dead end. Anyone think it would be worth it waiting for UWB antenna built in?

UWB Question:
Btw, if we have no UWB built in, does that mean it default comes with WWAN? Cuz can't you always get UWB aftermarket, like say a hub, but you can't get WWAN aftermarket? Would WWAN take up an express card slot?

 

I don't think my pre-config Canadian T61p 6460-67U comes with either UWB or WUSB or WWAN, which might explain why there hasn't been the same chaos with Canadian consumers.

 

Kebs, I think, as the moment, you can get WWAN aftermarket, but not UWB. I think that the major cell phone service providers offer cards that can be used in the express card slot. I have a feeling though, that it will still come default with WWAN, imo. I do not think UWB is available aftermarket yet, for the simple reason that it's not even available to Lenovo since the technology is so new. Good luck with the order and keep us posted.

 

Jpacelli, okay you had me interested in my newest order and whether I was getting WWAN or UWB. Here's the crucial line item from my order:

It looks like, all the new orders are going sans UWB, and with WWAN. I guess we can all get UWB hubs. If we really wanted them. Although, we'd have to get UWB peripherals. UWB mice, UWB printers, UWB keyboards. Or maybe they'll just make UWB adapters to make all our existing wired things be able to transfer over the WUSB protocol.

 

or maybe UWB will be a flop and this all would have been a waste of our time - either way, if it weren't for the tailormade discount (10% is quite attractive) and the other July coupon, I'd be following your lead and reordering my computer sans UWB. At this point it can be sans UWB and WWAN. I just want to see some sort of reassurance that my order does exist out there in China.

 

I've been very dissapointed with the lack of information as to when I will be receiving my t61p. I called more than 5+ times trying to make a small change to my order: add turbo memory, dvdrw+/-, and a vista business license. I was told 4 times to wait 3-4 days for a new invoice to be sent to me--it never came. On the 5th time a nice lady from Canada helped me out. However, to make the choices I would have to forgo my 10% coupon I used on July 18. This would cost me an additional $200+.

I got fed up with Lenovo and decided to go with Apple. Purchased a Macbook Pro 15.4 2.4GHZ 2GB 160 5400 HD Airport Wireless ABGN for $2299 (only a $100 more than the t61p with same config). Ordered at 9am and shipped out by 4pm this afternoon. Going to receive it by Tuesday.

I lost all respect for Lenovo. I loved the thinkpad line. However, being blown off several times by the CS Reps and being screwed in the end, I got tired of it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is really dissapointed in Lenovo.

Well, I took a closer look at the email I got from Lenovo today with the shipping info and it claims the unit DOES have UWB/WUSB. We'll see next week.

 

Well, my order was reconfigured once more. Yay. I know have a 1 dimm 1 gb of ram instead of 2 dimm 1 gb. I can still use my durabook. But I want my damn T61p. ESD 9/12.

 

Reordered a much more basic machine about 5 minutes ago. Let the race begin -- will this order come first or the one from 7/11?

 

Hmm, maybe I should have just re-ordered the same config as my first, then maybe it would have shipped already. Oh well.

 

Well it's midnight EST, no laptop, I'm banking on monday. I'm going to crazy if it doesn't ship monday.

 

Does anyone believe a word anyone at lenovo says anymore.. seriously wake up your all so worried about if you have UBW UBBB ISJJ 229938938TCO or whateven, honestly what is lenovo's deal. The only thing i will believe from lenovo is a TRACKING NUMBER!!!!!!!!!

I haven't had any problems with Lenovo, but thats cuz I didn't have UWB/WUSB, just got lucky like jaydm.

I accidentally found this forum and the post and I have to say I am so mad that I have found about this just now!

I also just received my tracking number and what drives me crazy is that I placed my order on 8/4 with ESD 8/20. I intentionally called lenovo hoping to get more accurate shipping estimate and I have been ASSURED over the phone that all their orders were quite heavy volume and that the configuration I've selected would most likely not ship before 8/28.

I have an international flight on 8/31. so believing both the rep. and the factory side tech (yes I even spoke to some actual tech by the config dept.!!! ) after holding for 48mins! that I might not get my laptop on time

So I switched to UPS 2nd Day w/ an extra $50.
But what? the darn thing has already been shipped on the 10th now.

UPS tracking says my unit left Hong Kong on 8/10 and will arrive on Monday. I'll probably get it late Monday night or Tue and will arrange to post some pictures.
