Should we assume none of the recent arrivals have the much anticipated UWB? This is a *$^$!% joke.

Where do you expect them to do this, before the package ships at every shipping point on earth.. the shipment is sent to the US and then its inspected just like when you come to the US on a plane and they inspect you.. If it doesnt clear then they send it back or seize the package

Mine was like that for 4 days, with "in transit to Louisville", then it turns out that it's "being held by customs for reasons beyond UPS control" yada yada yada... I bet yours is in the same situation; nothing to do but wait. At least it shipped!

So you think it's really in Louisville and it is playing the customs game or sitting on a pallet in Alaska?

Funny, I've ordered a number of things from Apple that have come FedEx international priority, and they seem to make it from China, through customs, and to my doorstep by 10:30am the next morning -- every time. UPS or UPS+Lenovo need to figure out how to handle customs and international shipping in general.

Wireless USB uses UWB as its base. The T61p I bought has Wireless USB and therefore has UWB. I'm guessing that everyone that ordered with WUSB/UWB will get it. Calm down.

 Wow - did you call and complain?? If so, what was their response? It seems that the later people order the closer the ESD. This does appear to have something to do with the UWB.

Did anyone order a T61p including UWB after mid-July receive theirs yet?

Curious to know if the UWB is a single component, or if it is more complicated to implement in the T61p then that? That is, does anyone know if Lenovo installs an extra antenna installed for it, etc...?

There's an antenna and an adapter for WUSB/UWB.
    Mine has:
    MFR: 42T0884
    IBM: 42T0885
This is the adapter. I don't see the antenna listed on my warranty parts, but it exists. No point having the adapter and no antenna :p I ordered on 7/12 fwiw.

Yeah, it is. It's like bluetooth and USB had a baby, and out came UWB(of which, WUSB is one implementation) It'll let you do things like wirelessly connect to your mouse/keyboard.. or your external HDD... or your docking station(google UWB docking station... THIS would be cool) I can't wait to futz around with it, once devices come out, that is. First thing to happen, though, will prolly be a wired-USB to wireless USB hub. Plug your hub into the wall, all your USB into the hub, connect with UWB. Next'll come external UWB devices.

This was a 7/17 order with an 8/17 ESD. So, after almost a month they kicked it back another month 3 days before missing their previous ESD.

Dunno what I'll do now, actually. Have to give it some thought. I'm still not seeing any other immediate options I like better.

Our friend Tony called me this morning. Seems that there is a shortage of screens, so he says. Anyhow, he said that mine would be shipping on 9/2, so there are possibly some others coming with that batch. All I know is that I ordered 7/18, so those of you that ordered in August and have had yours shipped, consider yourself to be way too lucky.

Kebs, others who have received their T61ps already - do your laptops have UWB??

Lenovo must be lying if people have already received UWB-equipped T61ps

    Ordered - 7/21
    ESD - 8/23 (my birthday!)

Looks like I'll be needing Tony's contact info...

EDIT : making my daily phone call to Lenovo right now. Be back in 45 minutes, when they decided to pick up and tell me everything is alright.

Well, I called and complained late July and got some B.S. and went on to talk to a supervisor who said he would look into it and email me later. A few days later, he sent me an email stating that there were part shortages but he'd make sure that I was prioritized (he eventually emailed me again and stated I was already on a rush list and I shouldn't be worried).

Well, it looks like this didn't come true, so I went ahead and checked with my J&J rep, and she said she would make some calls and look into it. From there she gave me a breakdown of every conversation she had with the Lenovo group and tried to single out the problem and make mine more noticeable, yet, even with her power, I still don't have my laptop shipping out... and it still has an ESD of 8/31/07 (been that way since July 31st).

I ordered my T61p with UWB on 7/12/07 around 7 PM or so, and to answer your other question: I believe that UWB is composed of several parts, such as the antenna built into the screen, the chip/card and most likely one or two other hidden parts.

I JUST WANT MY LAPTOP LENOVO! Is that so much to ask? I was told by several people I was on some "special" list, which I took to mean as the critical list, and made several calls and talked to all levels of the corporate world, but alas to no avail. If I end up getting the mid-sept delay, I'm going to reorder and won't be surprised if I get my laptop by the 22nd at the rate that non-UWB ones are going.

You guys will love this one. Got through within 30 seconds (pressed option #2). Guy tells me my computer has been shipped and that he has a tracking number and my CC has been charged. The online status page does not indicate that has been shipped, I have not received an email, and my CC has not been charged (nor have funds been tied up.) I'm on hold while he looks for this mysterious tracking number.

    Will keep you updated.

Hold the damn phone! We can call and opt out of UWB and get it shipped sooner!?! I don't give a flyin flip about UWB I REALLY need this laptop by next week for the start of my GTAship.

Are they offering to cancel your guys order or are they willing to ship it out ASAP without UWB?? If so I'll call and cancel UWB this second.

Wow they really are idiots out there. They must've outsourced my phone call to India or something. This guy was clueless. He gave me the tracking number for my docking station that already shipped.

All you guys who don't give a flip about UWB who ordered before I did, please feel free to call and remove UWB from your order. In fact, do it today. Now! Go, go, go! :)

I think it's pretty harsh to say they are "lieing" about shortages of the part just because some have shipped with it. Presumably there is a manufacturing restraint on how many of the things they can get on a monthly basis, rather than a sudden change from zero to infinity in supply.

Can we? When I called last thursday the guy said I would have to cancel my order and make a new one which I do NOT want to do. If I can keep my spot in line and just remove the WUSB/UWB I would gladly do so to get it out the door this week.

The guy I spoke to (from what I could understand, at least) told me that any changes to my order now would delay it.

I ordered two. When one ships I'll cancel the other. If they both ship at the same time, hopefully one of them will have an LG screen and/or NMB keyboard (which is more important to me than UWB) and I'll send the other one back.

I did this because my 7/11 order seems to have fallen through the cracks.

That's odd. You can see what the email they sent me says above:

"We understand that this delay may inconvenience you, therefore if you do not wish to wait for this option to become available, please contact us. "

I don't know any other way to read that other than "call us up and tell us to take it off and we'll get your laptop to you sooner than Mid-September"

How about "call us up and we'll cancel your order since this is the 2nd delay, and we're required by law to offer you a way to cancel at no charge" :p

Mine Was Delivered Two packages Express by 10:30 this morning as promised... First box laptop and 9cell battery, second box ultrabay battery.. in retrospect i think ultrabay battery was a waste of money since the specs seem so low for the extra battery i can imagine it gives even an extra hour. Go with extra six or nine cells. Also you cant use the extra battery time to play dvd's on a plane anyhow...

    Mine was as follow
t61p with t7500 with WUSB UWB and media card reader, turbo memory 7200 rpm 100gb 2gb ram antennas in screen and all the stuff that they seem to have removed after the 11th. This llaptop is loaded.

    I just got this email.....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
I apologize greatly for disconnecting you, I pushed the release button and not the hold button by accident and by no means meant to. Please accept my apology. I had a look at your order and it is not affected by that delay. The email is automated and was sent out to customers that have the same model number as your order. However, the orders that were affected were ones that had 512mb of RAM selected as an option, and yours is not one of those. In looking at your order I did see that you selected thw WUXGA TFT screen. This screen is in limited supply and as a result the estimated shipping time is 3 to 4 weeks as you were told last week. However, I can assure you that the UWB will not dealy your order. Again, I am really very sorry that I disconnected you by accident (I did try to phone you right away but could not connect so I sent an email).

    Sincerely,

    Linas Paskauskas

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

...does this guy maybe not understand UWB is built into the screen thus the display?....Is he possibly right?....this doesn't make much sense.

Ahhh. Yeah, I guess so. Didn't occur to me that was their way of offering to cancel it.

Thanks for posting the e-mail Lazy8s, it'll def. help the rest of us who are still stuck in the 7/11 unshipped boat. I called my exec. relations rep today about the delay e-mail and will let everyone know how they respond.

Linas is my rep. He seems to be pretty competent. I don't think UWB is built into the screen - rather I think it's a separate part, at least from looking at my order's parts list. Who knows, though.
