WAIT a minute.. it doesn't make ANY sense that an automated e-mail sent out to customers with the same model number as the result of a RAM config issue would describe a problem with a UWB shortage. Wouldn't it just say something about RAM configs in the e-mail?

No it doesn't make any sense at all especially considering the e-mail SPECIFICALLY SAYS the delay is the UWB!!

Also, the UWB is built into the screens (at least from what other reps have told me). That's why when lenovo says "it's a screen backorder" they are correct but what they REALLY mean is "it's a backorder of screens with UWB built in" as can be clearly seen in that T61Ps without UWB are shipping before ours even though they have the exact same screen.

Wow, I'm in the exact same boat, starting GTAship in 2 weeks. I just called them and told them that I'd received that "UWB delay email", -even though I haven't. I told the guy to remove UWB from the order, he said that might result in a delay of "up to two weeks". I did it anyway. 2 weeks for them to change the order is still a lot less than 4 weeks to wait for UWB.

What pisses me off is that I've been calling them every other day for the last month asking if there was one specific part delaying the order, and if I could remove that part, and I was always told that it was not a single part delaying anything, and that they could not change my order, only cancel it. -So there's two things they've been saying that are unquestionably lies.

Also, thanks a lot to the people who posted that email, I'm sure they wouldn't have actually sent it to me until the date gets closer to my ESD, THEN I would have to call them and remove that part.

I'm in the same boat as you. I leave for school on August 23rd, but I'm choosing to not request any changes. I think that's just going to screw things up more.

Honestly, I feel this emails are automated. We know the first shipping one with the 1-30 day delay was automated to send out as soon as the ESD passes. This new email probably works in conjunction with the ESD and model number to send out a custom delay. These are probably meant for people ordering right now, and for them mid-September is not much of a delay from the original ESD.

I do know this much: the computers are built in different factories in China (my service rep told me this). So the supply chain constraints may vary from factory to factory. If you ordered on 7/12 and it has not shipped yet, just wait patiently - it's really the best we can do.

So I called back since I was disconnected and Linas said the 512mb of memory was the problem.....

The rep this time told me that the UWB is in fact the problem but that the next shipment of UWB should be coming in this week and my order (Placed 7/24) should ship out next week. I'm not sure who's lying or who knows anything but if my laptop doesn't ship by 9/1 I'll cancel it and go to best buy and grab an HP. I just can't wait for a laptop especially since they are required for GTAs.

What really irritates me (for the Lenovo CS rep that I'm sure is reading this) is your CSR told me that the parts were on backorder when I originaly ordered but they were coming in and even though the site said 3-4 weeks it should ship out in about 2. Now, was I an idiot for believing him? Obviously. I would accept all of the fault here except that your reps and (perhaps) your automated systems keep giving about 10 different stories and no one can make an educated decision. If everyone called and could actually be told what the delay was and when their items should be shipped no one would be angry. We could decide if the date was acceptable and then cancel or wait.

My loans come in the 24th and if they get here before the laptop ships I'll just cancel it and buy something else. I would probably cancel it now but who knows how long it would take Lenovo to release the hold on my funds and I can't have all that money tied up.

Don't be too worried if your UPS tracking doesn't update very quickly. My laptop was in transit to Louisville for at least 48 hours and then the next time it was updated it was already in Dallas.

Also, for those of you getting your laptops I realized the quickest way to see if you have WUSB (and therefore UWB) is by pressing fn+f5 (if you have the Thinkvantage stuff installed, just try this before a clean install), it gives you a quick way to turn on/off WLAN, Bluetooth, and WUSB.

Man, you ThinkPad guys go through this every time there's a major release?

Well, (in spite of the email I received this morning) my ESD on the order status page at lenovo.com has NOT changed yet and from Lazy8s experience, who the f**k really knows what's going on, so I'll just try to think positive thots for right now. I made a quick tour of the other options out there and they really haven't changed much in the last month. Certainly not enuf to tempt me to change to one of them. I do have the advantage of not having a hard deadline date I need to hit without disaster of some sort befalling me.

Yeah, technically my deadline date is tomorrow but I talked to my advisor and he said I'd be ok the first couple of weeks without a laptop because I won't have an office or anything yet either but it's going to be really frustrating to have to go to another building to check my e-mail all day just because Lenovo sold comps that they didn't have.

I wonder if I started selling t-shirts but I didn't have any shirts let alone cotton if I would get sued for fraud even though I was planning on ordering the shirts that I had already sold a month after I sold them...

Ok I just got off the phone with a Rep. According to him, Lenovo factories currently have ALL the NECESSARY Resources and Supplies to build our laptops. In fact, he states that there are no limited quantities of any part that may delay my laptop.

He told me that I should see my laptop being shipped out by the end of this week or middle of next week. So, I am hoping what he tells me is true. He claims that laptops are being shipped out every second every day (sounds like a hyperbole to me...).

    Ordered 7/26
    ESD 08/28

    Lenovo Thinkpad T61p
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)
    Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate
Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate US English
    15.4 WUXGA TFT
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (256MB)
    2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
    Keyboard US English
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
    100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
4 in 1 Media Card Reader
    Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
    ThinkPad Wireless USB Adapter
    9 cell Li-Ion Battery

Another interesting and mind boggling fact:
He tells me that my laptop is in fact ALREADY BUILT!!!! o_O He claims that it is just waiting to be shipped out any time now.

    Is this for realz???!?!?!?!

thoughts on this. for one this is a very nice machine. text on the screen is just way too small, I have fantastic vision and this is just too small. Any suggestions on settings, pick another resolution or just select the 120 dpi fonts? my other gripe with this unit is that there are no covers for the ports like the media card reader the modem ports and such, the media card slot is going to get dirty for sure..

Jaydm, mine is EXPEDITED, which is a lower level of service than EXPRESS.... and my tracking info for either box (T61p or UltraBay SATA adapter) has not changed from "Ankorage, AK IN transit to Louisville, KY" in the last 26 hours.

FWIW, I called and cancelled my 2nd T61p order yesterday, which apparently had no effect, but the cancel email I sent on Sunday received a confirmation today and my 2nd order no longer appears when I check for status. So email cancellation may be the trick, plus you have an audit trail.

Mine was like that for a couple days and then when i sent them an email earlier today, it changed within an hour. Might be a coincidence, but I'm waiting for a reply to the email to see what is up. My delivery date has not changed yet, so that is good.

sign** just ordered a t61p today and ESD is 9/14, which is exactly one month from now! Hopefully it will arrive in time.

When I ordered, the lenovo site shows that "selecting" (not that you have any choices anyway) the 570m gpu may delay the ship date, but it seems that the lcd is not a problem as of now since this message did not appear under it.

I am thinking of calling up lenovo to try to expediate the shipping date...but it will likely not work...

What in the world is going on there at lenovo?? Can anyone tell me? I order mine on 7/20 and no word yet. ESD is 8/22. I wasnt too concerned because others who had ordered ealier than myself havnt had theirs ship either, but when people after me with UWB/WUSB gets theirs shipped it can not be because of that. Oh and they screwed up my price (used 10% coupon looked fine during checkout but when I look at order status the 10% off just disappeared).
Oh boy, I guess i may as well not worry, it will come when it comes sans UWB and processor most likely. Oh lenovo, great deity of lappies past, hast thou fallen?

Guys, your lenovo reps probably don't know much of anything of what's going on right now.

As for poor mca2k4, if you ordered on 7/11, you should have gotten your laptop right now, do search for better business bureau for durham, nc, and file a complaint. Hopefully you get Tony, Tony will take care of you.

I think after all my pain and agony, I'm down to about 1500.00 total cost for my uber-spec'd out laptop.

Do you think that the BBB would be a good route to solve my price difference issue? I have spoken with lenovo and they told me some sob story about how they cant adjust the order price so I have to wait till it ships then they can credit me back the 10%. I have a valid quote for the same config at the correct price, but it expires on the 19th. If my computer ships after that I am not sure what base I have to stand on. I would cancel my pricier order and convert the quote to an order, but who knows what kind of shipping mess and delays that would cause. It sounds like people who have taken issues to lenovo via the BBB have goten everything resolved nice and quick. So do I wait and hope it all works out or file a complaint.

Kebs recommended that I get in touch with Tony from Executive Relations by filing a BBB complaint, but I'm wondering if the current rep from Customer Relations Management is good enough. Any thoughts?

Ordered my laptop july 13th, and it was supposed to be in on july the 26th.

Mind you, I am in Canada.. and ordered the 17U. They are saying that there is a huge shortage on the screens and are saying that it will be here by the end of august.

Well I called today and the Rep told me that my order is already on the Critical List. Is that the expedited thing you are talking about? He said something to the extent that my laptop is built but just waiting to be shipped.

    WTF???
