No, I think the real issue is if you order the Intel Turbo Memory. That requires 1GB of RAM. Vista will run on 512mb, albeit sluggishly.

 

No it doesn't. Per http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx, 512 megs is the minimum supported amount. That said, it would probably REALLY suck on 512 megs as it's fairly bad on my work POS Pentium D dual core 3 ghz w/only 1 gig of RAM.

on the UPS tracking page, however, it shows method as "Express". Does this mean it is 2-day express?

Wow! I just checked this morning and it says it shipped today (8/26/07)!

 

Mine was upgraded to express as well and I received it the day after it cleared customs.

 

OK, so I've been using ThinkPads since I was... well, really young (29 now) and this will be number 6.

I have a t60p right now (2.16 Duo, 4gigs, 100gig 7200rpm, 15" display) and love it but was lusting over the t61 when it came out. So i bought one fully loaded and it... sucked. It's the first time I ever opened a computer and simply said "this is crap" and sent it back.

So since 7/12 I've had a t61p on order full decked out (2.4ghz, 4gig, 100gig 7200rpm, UWB, 15" UXGA...) but the order dates got messed up because we use IBM Global Financing on everyting (you too can have this beast for $100 a month for 24 months then send it back and get a new one!) and the paperwork was getting fubarred. So my final order date was 7/19.

I kept seeing my date get moved, kept emailing my rep, threatened to by a Toshiba... nothing sped that thing up. Finally, my rep said he'd have someone from the US (not India, Pakistan, Singapore, the UK, or Asskrakistan) call me to make good on this and get the laptop here quickly. Having been following this thread for the past 2 weeks I was skeptical at best.

Friday I was at lunch with my attorneys and got a call from some girl in North Carolina who apologized profusely for interrupting my lunch but assured me I was now on a "priority list" and would ship soon. She also offered $250 back on my credit card (the lease docs are already done so I can't exactly take $250 off the system) for my trouble. To sweeten the deal, my sales rep has told me they'll price match the system to the website in 21 days to knock another $200 or so off (thanks to rapid depreciation of anything that uses electricity).

So, today I noticed in our UPS QuantumView Inbound some packages highlighted as clearing customs and lo and behold... a t61p is on the way. I'm hoping it's worth all this wait and hassle -- this thing is fully loaded and should be a beast!

Best of luck to everyone else waiting, and if you want to get your laptop quicker I recommend getting on your sales rep or just calling the folks in NC!

 

looks like you got a good deal. What i do not like is how Lenovo does not do the same for everyone who has waited. For some people like me got a free battery, some get credit added (like you) while others do not. Lenovo should do a standard compensation for everyone, not just for me, and not just for you.

by the way, i am on my fourth esd, 9-27. i am now supposed to be on the critical list. on the brighter side they finally got my price corrected, yay.

I think most of Lenovo's T61P laptops / production capacity have been allocated to students in Hong Kong... (Considering students' buying power, there is a contract between HK GOV and HP, Lenovo and Dell to provide a special discount for college students and faculties on every Aug & Sep for laptops. And you can go to the appointed locations in the colleges to buy a laptop with your students ID... And you can get a T61P with a price at around $1700USD, and the configs is exactly the same as mine...)

You dont have to wait here to get a T61P... Cuz they have stock in shops... Long story but I think it maybe part of the reason why you guys' T61P deliveries have been postponed again and again...

 

Mine ordered on 7/23/07, first est. delivery is 8/24/07, sec est. delivery is 9/25/07. Long long waiting period.

 

Mine was in Louisville for a little over two hours, and it shipped the day before yours, so I'm guessing that yours won't be stuck in customs for like four days like the first shipment was.

We all got them. I got not one, not two but three emails, probably would have gotten more but I filled one out. First requesting, then demanding a review. With no machine and conflicting lies being told by Lenovo CS the review they demanded I provide wasn't flattering.

 

Yes, I feel Lenovo screwed me with their 6 day (4 business day) wait between order and shipment.

Received my 14.1 T61P today, shipped two days after ordering. I should be receiving my 15.4 T61P on Thursday, shipped 3 days after ordering. Perhaps you should consider reordering.

 

Ok..back in the early august I kept messing up the fatwallet cashback so I ended up with 4 orders with same configuration since I kept re ordering...I didn't want to deal with holding a hour each time and have some guy mess up my specs and losing the fatwallet cashback.

I canceled them...but lenovo messed up ....so out of the 4 orders...I kept 1....2 ended up shipping so I had to do a RMA...and then just a few days ago I got a delay notice email for the 4th one....so obviously something is wrong with lenovo..

I would just reorder and have 2 orders pending...1 of them is bound to ship

It sounds now like my T61p is caught in Customs hell in Louisville. They're rescheduled it from Thursday to Friday now. Of course, this is a long Holiday weekend coming up. . .if they manage to dick it around just a little bit more they can delay it all the way to Tuesday. If they make me miss a long weekend of playing with the new toy I'm going to be very, very angry.

Looks like your T61P is in the same shipment as mine. It also got delayed until Friday. However, for my previous T61P, UPS claimed to reschedule a day later while it was in customs but they ended up delivering on time after it got out of customs. Lets hope for our T61Ps to show up tomorrow.

 

Well, it just switched to "IMPORT SCAN" and the delivery date reverted back from Friday to Thursday again! So, fingers crossed!

 

That's what mine said too It left Louisville 3 hours later.

thanks for the update. btw i now have a fifth esd. i cancelled my now second order for a t61p with wsxga+. the CSR said the new order would be on the critical list and hopefully it will ship soon. i lost the WUXGA screen and UWB, but i did save a significant amount of money. now we shall see when it ships. my guess is it will be a nice christmas gift.

 

OK... so again, I ordered on 7/26 and received an ESD of 8/28. Though I called 2x before 8/28 and they said everything was fine and that there should be nothing keeping my T61p being shipped before the ESD each time I called, on 8/28 the ESD changed to 9/30 on their web site. The next day I received the following email:

...So I called today and the guy said it was because of the 15" screen (WUXGA) ...thay they had to be shipped to the warehouse in NC where the laptop would be assembled and then shipped to me (thought that they were assembled in China?). Anyway, he said he would get me on the critical list so that I could get it ASAP and asked for my email address so that he could notify me on the status.

Has anyone else who ordered after 7/25 received a T61P with a 15" WUXGA screen and UWB yet?
