My current laptop is a 15" 4:3 1600x1200. I've been using it for about 4.5 years, so 1920x1200 won't be that much of a change for me. A 15" with 1920x1200 was actually my primary requirement, and at the time I ordered I only knew about the Dell D830 and the T61p. I now see there are a few more options out there, though they seem to be more expensive...
-
Ditto. And, when they squeeze more pixels in a 15.4 in screen I will probably be compelled to upgrade again.
@abaddon80,
I made the same transition, and the difference is marginal. I love my new real estate. -
At least it is shipped...

Oh yeah, mine was shipped from Hong Kong, if anyone wanted to know. Some are shipped from China, maybe most are. Yes, I know Hong Kong is part of China, but HK isn't fully converted. -
Yeah... mine is headed to NYC on the same shipment... finally.
-
I'm in the exact same situation as you, except I canceled and reordered on 9/7. Don't worry, the WUXGA one will disappear in a week or so.
-
I apologize guys if this isn't the right place, but I just need to vent a bit.
As I said in a previous post, my first ESD passed on 9/13 and was changed to 10/30 without even a "Your order has been delayed". I had called a few days earlier to get an update and I spoke with Neha. She told me to call in on 9/14 if my order had not shipped. When I called in on 9/14, I spoke with Lititia, and she stated she would talk to a supply manager and call me back on Monday or Tuesday.
I was home all day Monday and Tuesday, and I never received a call. I just called in just now and spoke to Bopanna. I asked for an update, he put me on hold for a few minutes, and then returned to tell me that my order should ship 9/29. I then told him about my conversation with Lititia, and he told me she was on vacation yesterday which is why she didn't call. Vacation? Riiight.
I asked to speak with a supervisor, and I was told there aren't any supervisors to speak to, but he can arrange for one to call me within 48 hours. I confirmed he had my correct phone number, and told him I would be calling back first thing Monday morning if I didn't get a call by Friday evening.
I'm aware I haven't been waiting as long as some, but this lack of communication is frustrating. I have only received 2 emails from Lenovo about my order:
1.) The original email confirming my order was placed
2.) An automated reply from my sales representive (I used his rep ID when I placed the order) saying he was out of town for 4 days. I had emailed him a question about if my laptop had UWB. I never received another email from him.
However, I have received 3 emails now from Lenovo about new sales and promotions they are running, so I know they have the right contact address for me.
I don't want to say they "lied" to me, because I still have some faith that they're trying (even if it is half-heartedly). But, there does seem to be a lot of incompetence and passing the buck going on right now.
I'm thinking now would be a good time to complain to Tony. What do you guys think?
At this point, if I don't hear from someone by Monday, or my order doesn't ship by the 9/29, I will be canceling my order and getting a Dell. It's sad, because this would've been my first Thinkpad too. I've always felt that ThinkPads were the best laptops on the market, and after reading all the material on the web about the T61p's, I am convinced that they are. But, words about how great the laptops are don't do me any good when I'm in need of one right now.
-
=/ i'm sure you are haveing a hard time with lenovo but trust me going to dell is 10x worse
-
OK. I received my T61p today. Now to get it set up - where to find the time!
Is there a big performance advantage to re-installing Vista fresh? Have there been any before / after tests? I am thinking of not re-installing and instead installing VMWare using Vista as the host OS.
The resolution is fine. I like the small text and I enjoy the real-estate. Not sure if I dig the quality of the screen yet. The keyboard is taking some getting used to... it is bigger / more spread out than the Dell 5100 that I am moving from.
I ordered with 1GB RAM and ordered an extra 2GB through NewEgg. The new chip was easy to install and seems to run well. My Memory performance score is 4.8. Didn't run memtest on the RAM yet but so far so good.
Vista took longer to get set up than I had expected; After I thought it was all installed the HDD churned hard for 20 more mins or so; I suppose it was indexing for searching the file system. -
Ordered my 14" SXGA+ T61p on 9/10, shipped 9/17, arrived 9/19. No complaints so far.
Now cleaning out some of the bloat.
Edit: meant arrived 9/19, as it is currently not 9/20 yet

Wow, sorry to hear about that. I decided to purchase a Lenovo because I heard they had good customer service compared to Dell. I ended up getting an incredibly responsive rep who encourages me to call him with questions and will get back to me within an hour after I have left a message. I'm a federal employee and so asked to speak to a someone who handles purchases for federal discounts. This purchase wasn't for work but for personal use and I made that clear and he said I still qualify for a discount. I've just been so impressed especially since I had to cancel two orders and reorder again. Even with the delays going on, I just can't complain. -
From what I've read here over the past month or so, it does seem that there are more satisfied stories from those with a corporate account than those who do not. I personally ordered via EPP, but my company doesn't have any special relationships or contracts with Lenovo/IBM so I don't really have any extra "clout" there.
I spent the last hour reading the D830 Owner's thread, and while there was no mention of shipping delays in that particular thread, there was a small bit of talk about poor WUXGA screen quality. Seems like I'm in for a gamble (as far as screen quality) no matter which company I choose.
-
14" SXGA+ T61p, ordered on 9/10, ESD 9/27, shipped 9/12, received 9/19. UPS ground.
-
I think this has a lot to do with your success. With customer service in general (for any company) I've found for complicated issues you only start getting really good quality results when you end up speaking to the same person over and over, because someone can be held accountable and/or this same person is in the position to make things happen (as opposed to the first level rep that picks up the phone).
Talking to a different person each time is so time consuming because they have to get caught up on the problem, then go find out some more information, or wait for more information to be passed down the chain.
I'm going to give them one last chance to make things right before I go up the chain myself.
-
Ask for their name and number, so you can always call them back.
-
I always get their names. The only number they give me is the same number I always call. I even asked if there's a ticket or case number for my case, so I can reference it for a future call. Bopanna said he couldn't provide me with that information.
-
this is really getting very absurd. i was assured it would ship this week, and given the reports of recent wuxga shipments, i was very hopeful, but when i called in today, they said it would ship next week. i'm sick and tired of this.
-
I just received a call from a supervisor/manager, and while she didn't offer much more information than previous reps, or any better solution to my problem (which is understandable since it is a supply issue, something out of her control), the gesture was still very much appreciated. I was almost positive I wouldn't get a call back.
-
Yeah, that's what I was told too this morning. September 30th.
-
are wsxga's shipping any faster?
edit: somehow got linked to a service center in the united states. i decided not to cancel immediately, and my rep seemed pretty responsive: she put in a request for me for monetary compensation, and they sent an email to their supply manager to get a ship date on the laptop. i was given the assurance that i would get an email about both matters within 24-48 hours, and I got an e-mail address from the rep herself. i think this may get better. -
^^ ordered 09/15/07 shipped 09/19/07 specs are in sig. With school discount 1168$ seems wsxga+ does ship faster
-
Wow, already shipped? Mine hasn't shipped yet. They must be short of something else.
-
HOLY ****! My order for a T61p WSXGA+ placed on 9/7 just shipped today. It's funny because just yesterday the rep told me I should expect it by October because of the delays. I'm so glad!
Edit: ESD was 9/27 -
I ordered my T61p (WUXGA) from lenovo Canada on 8/30 and have been told that they expecting a delivery of screens on the 10/1 so hopefully I'll get mine in the 1st half of next month!
-
ordered: 9/13, ESD: 10/02
shipped: 9/20
T61p T7500 15.4 WSXGA+ -
just got $100 back from lenovo after complaining. still no word about when it will ship.
-
Well, they must be short of something on my configuration if everyone else's is shipping. Let us know if you got a Samsung or LG panel.
-
Mine has been on a UPS truck since 5 AM. Still scheduled for de3livery today. It's 6.30 PM.
-
I think the delay is your wireless card, dell was adding like 5-7 days on their site for that card.
-
T61p WSXGA+ shipped last night (ordered 9/13). Based on parts lookup, I got an LG-Philips panel. Please follow the following link and post your results:
T61p 15.4 WSXGA+ LCD Panel Survey -
woot thats great news on the panel type! I ordered on the same day so I'm hoping mine will be an LG too.
Kyla: mines a 4965AGN wireless card too so I doubt thats the cause of the delay. Maybe the recent typhoon in Shanghai may have something to do with the delays on certain shipments. -
Well, that is excellent news.
My first thought was that the wireless card was the hold up. So my next guess is the bluetooth????? -
I'm in the same case as you kyla... now they seem to have screens it's anyone's guess what the hold up is. Incidentally, I'm showing the same ESD as yours. Probably bluetooth or the AGN card.
-
Well lets just hope they have built our machines (with the LG screens) and are just waiting on the bluetooth or whatever is causing the delay.
-
I think I found the reason for why my computer hasn't shipped yet. I decided to check my credit card account. There was a pending charge to Lenovo after I made the order but now it has disappeared. I think my order got lost
I will need to contact my rep and see if he can find out what happened. -
IwantAquietLaptop Notebook Enthusiast
this is really weird, but i ordered 2 days ago and just got an email saying it shipped. furthermore, i took advantage of this temporary IBM mistake that i heard on slickdeals.net where upgrading to a 200GB 7200RPM drive SUBTRACTED 66 dollars from the price instead of adding hundreds...other people that placed this order recieved cancellation notices...am i really lucky or is this some sort of mistake
-
IwantAquietLaptop Notebook Enthusiast
oops, it was only for the docking station -_-
at least the laptop order wasnt cancelled like everyone else. got a sweet deal! -
Ok, I talked to my rep and he said my order is still there. So it didn't get lost or cancelled even though I have nothing showing as pending on my credit card now. So, I'm guessing the delay must be a shortage on bluetooth.
Anyone who recently shipped had bluetooth? -
hehe yah I didn't notice that, mine doesn't have bluetooth. Also a update on my shipping, seems lenovo upgraded my shipping for no reason because it went out for arrival this morning O_O and i live in montana and the order was just in california lastnight. My return to dell's hub in texas took almost 4 days
-
that sucks..you guys order BT, and not even receiving it
-
Oh man, ordered 8/18, estimated date was 9/20. Just got bumped from 9/20 to 11/06.
This really sucks =( -
thats why i cancelled dude..you might as well just order the the new p when it comes out in janurary
-
are you sure its even coming out and how sure are you that u wont have prlblems then?
-
I also ordered on 8/18/07 and was told 1-2 weeks during the order process. My ESD when I got the confirmation was 9/20/07.
Yesterday, my ship day, NOTHING happened. Today, I go look at the order page and my ESD was pushed back to 11/06/07 -- 80 days after my order.
This is after a phone operator told me that ALL parts were collected on 9/6, and that the bin with the parts had left the warehouse, and my laptop was being assembled at the factory. I was told that the laptop would ship the week of 9/20, perhaps as early as 9/17 and NO LATER then 9/21. It was all a lie.
DO NOT BELIEVE THEM they will say anything to keep you from cancelling or changing your order.

I just talked to my rep today on the phone and he mention about the delays on the WUXGA screens and how everything got pushed to November. Apparently, the shortage is not only Lenovo but everywhere. He's been calling his customers up and letting them know whats going on and switching them over to WSXGA+ screens if they are willing.
-
november?! what. the. hell. i cannot wait that long.
ok, the hp 8510p is looking ridiculously good right now. -
I hope the delay is not the same everywhere! I was promised that lenovo Canada were getting the screens in on the 10/01. If they've pushed it back to November i'm cancelling.
-
ordered 8/20
ship date 9/20
new ship date 11/6
their website still says 1-2 weeks on new orders so something is wrong here. i've heard their customer service is great but so far they are a joke. you can bet i'll be cancelling my order. i'm sure once 11/6 rolls around the price i paid will be double what they are charging in november. -
I typically don't post in threads like this, but I guess I'm looking for recommendations...
Ordered a few T61p systems w/ WUXGA screens on 7/19. Estimated ship date was last week. They shipped out cases to us (one case for each system, which was part of our order). We had 3 separate orders placed w/ Lenovo.
Order #1: some systems w/ cases for one department.
Order #2: some systems w/ cases for another department.
Order #3: one system for me for testing purposes.
We've received the cases for Order #1 and Order #2.
Lenovo's status shows that order #1 was split into 2 orders. HOWEVER it has a tracking number for the T61ps on that order, none for the cases. But no serial numbers are displayed. I spent 2 hours on the phone w/ Sales today. They swear the systems shipped to us and that the cases will be shipped in the near future. I am 100% certain I have the cases but no systems! When I asked for serial # information, they are unable to provide any, and sent me to technical support. Technical support had no idea what to do and said it's a sales issue since they had no additional system warranties on our account.
Also, Order #3 looks like it will be a November ship date.
Sure enough user training is scheduled for the week of October 22nd. I've got a underpinning contract agreement w/ HP to get systems delivered. However, I've already had the PO/SO cut for Lenovo. Lenovo won't allow me to cancel the orders unless I return the systems (which I don't have). Unless I can receive confirmation from Lenovo that they won't invoice us, I don't have the available capital (based on how procurement handles accounting) to order from HP.
I've got procurement following up on #1 right now, and I'm working on #2 and #3. So would appreciate any suggestions on how to deal with this.
Any ideas if they systems will ship, and if so, any news on what ship dates seem to be?
Thanks. -
Sorry if this is really evident, but are the shipping delays only on the WUXGA screens? Meaning there is no delay on the WSXGA screens?
Also, would you spend $100 dollars on a cpu upgrade to t7500 or add more ram to 3 gb total?
