What you have to understand is how a credit card charge works. It's a three step process and is NOT realtime, though with your new abilities to see your account in realtime you may see the steps, you may even see ghost steps. Biggest problem is that you may see them, but not the type of step. So you won't know it's an auth, you just see the amount. This leads to a lot of confusion.
Step 1 is the Authorization. What this means is that they are given permission to charge the card. The Auth lasts a maximum of 30 days, in some cases less (varies from bank to bank.) You are NOT charged (ie clock on interest does not begin yet.) There is a hold placed on those funds so they will be available when the merchant wishes to take the next step.
Step 2 is the capture. This is where the merchant tells their processor to go ahead and charge the card. You are NOT charged (ie clock on interest does not begin yet.) V/MC rules state that the merchant may NOT capture until they are within 24 hours of shipping the item.
Step 3 is the settlement. In this step the processor (gateway) does the actual charge. There must be a valid authorization and a capture for this to occur. It normally occurs between 6 and 8 pm (end of business.) This is the step when your card is charged.
There is yet another post process step after this where the merchant account gets the money from the purchasers bank. This step can also go wrong, though it's rare. Usually a case where the purchaser's bank does not follow the guidelines and voids the auth, though it should be good.
To add insult to injury there can be ghosts, double and triple auths which users can see realtime on their account, but which normally sort themselves out in a few days.
I'm not even touching on international rules which are a whole different quagmire.
What's all this mean? Lenovo should not be 'charging' you until they ship. They should only take an authorization which you will not see on your statement, nor will it start the clock on interest (normally you have 30 days to pay and not get interest fees.)

-
ok i just ordered today (july 26) and estimated ship date is August 28
I'm leaving for school August 27th! Is there any chance that it will ship before then? If not, can I change the shipping location?
-
Uh... Amost zero chance you're getting your laptop in time. i don't know if changing your address is a good idea, probably much more secure to have your mother overnight it for you.
-
Can't I call them to inquire about maybe a change in shipping address? Are you sure that there is no chance that my laptop will arrive by August 27th, when I will be leaving. (ESD August 28)
-
You might get it before, you never know, but with all these different delays, it's most likely that you will not. I would just have it stay like it is, other wise it will probably take longer. You shouldn't need your computer in the first few days of classes anyhow. I would wait and have your mom overnight it to you like Kebs said.
Just my two cents though. -
Ok I just called Lenovo...here's what the lady said:
There is a possibility for it to ship before hand. It all depends on resource constraints and availability. She is able to reroute the package to a new address if necessary but that could delay it more.
Lets pray together people and hope that we receive our thinkpads on time!

-
I live in California, LA. I'm going to the east coast.
Shipping is vital!
-
Yup, that is a big move. Well I mean, you are in the same boat with me. I ordered on the 11th and I need my laptop by August 23rd. I know I still have plenty of time, but I have had no change in my status in the last 15 days.
-
I may be entirely incorrect but the general feeling I am getting reading these boards and talking to the Lenovo rep I ordered with Lenovo THOUGHT they would have all the parts in a week or so ago but they still are not in yet. Considering no one's order status has even changed (at least from what I see in this thread) it looks like Lenovo will be giving a LOT of free stuff away to make people happy. I mean, there's no way Lenovo is going to come out and say on their web site "By the way we still don't have the parts in and haven't started production on any T61p yet so if you order it will be months before you get your laptop.". If they did that no one would be ordering them. They'll just let the backorders build up and deal with the angry customers by giving them cheap stuff for free....that's what we do where I work anyways...
-
**** that ****...
-
This is the major problem with companies and big fatass **** licking corporations these days. All they **** want to do is make money. The old age ethic of customer always comes first no longer holds true. They don't give a **** about you. They only care about your money. All these companies just try to rip you off. I've had to deal with many of these robber barons i.e. AT&T, SBC, Dell, and countless others. People we need to make our voices heard. What kind of fking trickery do they think they are pulling on us??? It's kinda **** if you ask me. I just hope Lenovo does not prove to be yet another one of these money-greedy, customer-ripping-off, **** companies. (considering the fact that it is a Chinese owned company...)
Sorry about that, but I am very pissed off right now because AT&T/SBC tried to rip me off again by putting crap on my bill that I have never ordered. -
-
right? -
Sometimes it's just better to let it out, man
I actually called Lenovo today, and the guy I talked to said I would most likely have mine shipped before the ESD of August 17 (after reviewing my configuration). Now, he may or may not be right, and I hope this doesn't generate false hope, but just letting you guys know what I've been told.
You can check my config on page 11, about halfway down, if you wanna compare your setup to mine. -

Do you think it will arrive sooner than ESD? How can you tell my config? Like I don't think mine is THAT complicated to build... -
It's not about how complicated it is, it's that they don't have the screens in stock. When they get your stuff in, they will build it.
-
ordered today: 7/27
ESD: 9/12
balls! -
I just got off the phone with lenovo. First rep I talked to said there was an invalid confirmation or something, so he switched me over to some other guy. Next guy said there was some problem with almost all orders last weekend and that he could fix the invalid confirmation. He also said that my laptop is expected to ship on the 15th.
but now, my parts list is back up and the ESD is 6 days later than the original ESD. -
My T61p has just arrived
Ordered: July 11
Estimated: 3~4 weeks
Shipped: July 26
Arrived at door: July 27 -
How do you like the screen? Do you know who the manufacturer is? What is the overall noise level of the machine? Does the fan run continuously or only during intensive processing?
Thanks! -
I can't even start unpacking yet... due to current work load and schedule. But will get to it later this evening.
In the mean time, you can check GarryF's post at:

And mine isn't going to come until the 15th of august. I'm jealous.
-
[Edit: I will continue to grow this list a bit more instead of opening a new reply]
Ok... I couldn't really resist openning the package...when it was sitting right next to me
Here's my first impression (before I power it on):
1) Huge - compared to a 14.1" TP
2) Heavy - compared to a 14.1" TP
3) Surprise! Fingerprint scanner is included!
4) Damn! Not a NMB keyboard! Yes, it feels differently...
5) What? Two rubber legs (near the front of the unit)! Ugly! [Edit: guess I overlooked the fact that the T42 also has two rubber legs there for years... never noticed them]
6) Ugly Intel and Windows Vista stickers.
7) The T42 next to me is sexier!
8) Take your hands and fingers off my toy! (said that to someone standing next to me)
9) The off-center screen bothers me first. Once I start watching the actions on the screen, I no longer notice the screen is off-centered.
10) Touchpad area is smaller. The touchpad buttons are... less appealing.
11) Minor light leaking from bottom of the screen (when the screen is completely black).
12) Audio/Mic on the left hand side. Good.
13) Screen is bright and good, so far. Text/font readability of the high-res screen to me is acceptable.
14) Noise seems to be about the same as the T42 (both are set to run at Maximum performance on AC). In my office, they are both very quiet.
15) Much cooler than the T42.
Yes, still got the same IBM Thinkpad logo... but for some reason... it doesn't feel like the IBM Thinkpad's I'm so used to. To be fair, I have only used 14.1" TP's. This is the first 15.4" widescreen TP I have.
Spent over 1 hour by now trying to connect the TP to my home wireless G network. No luck and no idea what is the issue. Can connect to neighbor's open/insecure network though. Thus, it may be a "compatibility" issue between the new TP and the old SMC G router I have.
Despite the WiFi problem I am having, all I can say now (after running 3dMark05) is
WOW...WOW...WOW...!!!
Heavy, big, ugly.... so! This is THE notebook I have always wanted! -
That doesnt seem like a great first impression.
-
Fortunately my school its only two and a half hours from home. -
How about we all call Lenovo and emplore them to expedite things?
-
That's not going to do anything, at most it will slow stuff down. The people at the call center located here in the US have no control over the build center that's in china. The last thing lenovo needs is us calling and annoying them.
Let's just wait it out, besides lenovo is to busy taking orders from new suckers.... -
/speeeeel. -
WHAT? end of september? what college are you going to? Lucky dog. -

also, when was the estimated ship date on the 7/20 laptop shipped on 7/28...
-
-
this ship date uncertainty is kind of annoying. i'm moving into college on 8/25, so since the ESD on my order was 8/27, i called lenovo and changed the mailing address from my house to my dorm. but if the date will get randomly pushed up a week or two, it might be ok to have it shipped to my house.
to make matters worse, i also ordered a backpack, and that shipped yesterday, and it's being shipped to my house, NOT my dorm despite the fact that the customer service person i spoke with on the phone said that everything was being sent to my dorm. i sure hope the laptop gets shipped to the right place!
arrrgh. -
this thread is for T61p, not T61. These quicker shipping dates are getting our hopes up, until we realize the poster is talking about the T61.
-
It is not a pre-built model
I order T61 with WXGA instead of WXGA+, which will delay shipping for 20 days more.
other configuration as follows:
core duo 7300
512 M (I will my 2x1G memory already, will upgrade myself)
120G HD 5400rpm
other components just basic
I am happy with the shipping expreience, only hope the quality is good as well. -
-
Ugh, did you guys not notice the title of this thread? T61p Buyers Post your Shipping Dates Here.... I flipped out when I found out that some people's laptops had shipped in 8 days only to find out that they were T61's not T61p's anyway..... did anyone notice that that ebay laptop had a 250 GB 7200 rpm HD? either that is a lie or there is a hard drive out there I don't know about.
-
"Only 4.7lbs with Battery!!!"
Aren't reports on the p in the 6+ range? -
Yeah, that Guy may have just put two HDs in there, Maybe a 100 gb and a 60 both RPM and he called it 250gb? Who knows?
-
bump for the most interesting thread on the forum
-
Most interesting? Wow, I should start threads more often. Well my shipping date is supposed to be tomorrow. I know it's not going to happen, so I'm looking forward to demanding a free battery.
-
-
hmmm So it seems that T61s are being shipped faster than T61ps???? Is that how things are? I sure hope my T61p with an ESD of August 28 ships before Auguest 27, when I leave. Aiya!! This is driving me crazy. We paid more for our T61ps...so shouldn't we get ours sooner since we paid the premium price! Come on people!
