hi,
i ordered a t61 14" on 9/21, estimated ship date - 10/10, i talked to lenovo and they said there is a constraint on screens but i ordered just WXGA. Did anyone get any reply of that sort for WXGA?

My status is also still "In Progess" with an order date of 09/25 and Est. Ship date of 10/12. I called for a status update and was informed "the factory processing my laptop was closed for 3 days unexpectedly" WHAT?!!!

Anyone have any recent updates on their orders? Mine still says 10/15. I've not heard anything from Lenovo since I made my order on 09/26......

It still says "In Process".

Anyone know if there are any components causing the delay? I really need mine before Halloween......

 

My guess is that it's most likely the screen (even though it's not the infamous WUXGA). I still think there's a good chance it'll ship by the estimated ship date; once it gets within a day or two... then I'd start to wonder. I'd give them until at least this Friday to ship the order.

Unfortunately, the only status 'updates' they give you are "in process" and "shipped on xx/xx."

 

Ugh!! Only two status indicators??!! That's unreal. I keep an eye on the status many times a day so I'm now not surprised the status hasn't changed!!

I haven't had my Credit Card charged yet either. Very strange.........

Hi all, I was wandering if you can give me some insight if Lenovo upheld its estimated shipping dates or NOT?

My rant,
Either way, I am very disappointed at Lenovo's procurement and shipping fulfillment. I have purchased laptops for school and work from Apple, Gateway, Dell and Acer, all have done a much faster and better job. All four companies have shipped within the same business week, with a status system that actually shows the status of the purchase! This is just bad service from Lenovo. If the Thinkpads aren't as great as they are, I would never tolerate this.

I order a T61 the exact same day as you did, Sept 26, with the same estimated ship date of Oct 15th. And my order is still "in process" right now.

I did have an Advanced Dock shipped to me two days after my order, Sept 28. (It was shipped from North Carolina...?) But I've also order some other accessories that haven't been shipped yet: the hard drive ultrabay adapter and ultrabay battery.

So I'm wandering if you also have ordered any accessories? maybe that's what's holding up our orders?

Anyways, I'll let you know how mine turn out, would you do the same? I'm thinking of calling Lenovo Thursday to get a confirmation of some sort that the computer will be shipped by 15th, if any good that'll do....

I really need a computer soon.

They are now telling me it will ship on 10/18, but they are not sure. Soon I'll have to use a YEAR when I tell people my order date!

I don't think the people on the phone know much more then what you see on the order status web page. If you call them, and your order is past due, they will give out about 10% of the order value in discounts OR stuff (not both). Get a notebook stand, a spare power brick, and a mouse ( 70 + 55 + 30 = 10% of $1,550 ). You should also be able to get a $150 discount/refund.

They don't charge until the laptop ships to you.

So I thought, okay I'll be patient.

And then I got an e-mail on 10/6/07, telling me that it was shipped by UPS Express (even though I picked UPS Ground). They delivered it on 10/8/07!
What a pleasant surprise!!

Strangely, when I tracked it on the UPS website, it said the computer actually came from Hong Kong. Why all the way from there??

Because they are built over there, Lenovo is a Chinese company. Wow, a WUXGA T61P received less than two weeks from the order date. You should consider yourself very lucky.

I wonder whats Lenovo's policy for prioritizing orders. Would ordering from different portals (thus different prices) affect the ship date? It also helps to have a good relationship with your credit card company so no holds gets placed so it might be a good idea to call them to see if everything went smoothly in case your cc hasn't been charged.

A typhoon has also landed in China a couple days ago and at least 1 million people have been displaced not to mention last week was a week long national holiday. And then there was the screen shortage...

 

How/What did you asked to get that discount? I would really like to know, since there's a pretty good chance that my going to be delay now. Thanks Mc Logic!

Oh, LASpur, I just called Lenovo. Surprise, surprise, they said that it mostly like will be delayed. Something about the 14.1" screen? So it may not affect you, but you should give them a call and see what's up. They're saying by end of next week they'll know "IF" the screen will become available, so they can't even tell me when it might be shipped. My order status on the website haven't changed yet, but i'm guessing it'll do that pretty soon.

I'm get a bit ticked off, if i'm going to spend $1900+ on a product, I expect the entire experience to be efficient and pleasant. Lenovo have provided neither. I'm seriously eyeing the black Macbook, and cancelling this Thinkpad.

 

Interestingly, the T61p w/WUXGA option is not available on the US lenovo site.
The only 15" screen is the WSXGA+.

Ordered on my T61p (WUXGA) on 7/23, the latest ship date isn't until 10/19.

August 10. Today it is Oct 10 and my est. ship date (according to the website) is Oct 30! After a few calls to customer support I now understand a few interesting things:

1) If they say the est ship date on the website is wrong, they are wrong.
2) If they say the est ship date on the site is right, they are wrong.
3) If they say they will call you back with updated information, they are lying.
4) The call center doesn't have a supervisor on the floor. I imagine phone operators drinking beer in the Bangalore heat without fear of repercussions.
5) On the 3rd call they finally identified a backlog on wuxga screens as the cause for the delays.
6) The phone number given in status emails (1(866)428-4465) is the only number in town, you can't be transferred to someone who can give you more useful information.

Finally, as consolation they offered me a credit of an undisclosed amount. So, if the laptop ever ships they then may offer me a credit of 1 cent to X dollars.
I urge all masochists to order a Lenovo laptop today!

Since I have placed the order I had nothing but problems with it.
I'm a tourist to the USA and I wanted to get my self a brand new IBM-Thinkpad to replace my old Sony and take it home with me.
The order was for a t61p and a backpack.
After 2 weeks I received a carrying case instead of the backpack, I called customer service and the first guy I spoke with told my that someone will call me back, and someone did call me back and told me that I got a caring case-backpack like I ordered.
I said to myself "maybe its my mistake", and rechecked the order on the computer.
I found out that, I was right, and they did sent me the wrong stuff. I called again and this time they apologize and told me they going to send a pick up for the bag and send me another one.
What happened was, they just sent another one and left me the carrying case too, what was fine by me.

Next I was waiting fro the laptop to arrive, and It was supposed to be shipped on the 09/14/07.
I was short on time because I was planing to move around the USA and not stuck in the same place waiting for the computer(I'm still a tourist).
On - 09/17/07 I saw that the status on the web site has change to 10/31/07!!!!
I called Lenovo very very surprised and shocked and they told me it's going to take more time and will probably shipped at 28/9/07 not 31/10/07 like the website says.

After a few days 09/25/07, I have asked to change the shipping address to my new place of staying- Canada- they told me they cannot change it to Canada.
The only thing they offered is a 50$ discount so I can send it from the USA to Canada on myself.
So I said OK, change it to a new york address, and gave them the address in new york. I even when to the bank to change the address there too, so the payment will go through.

After two weeks I still see the old address in the web site, I called again and they told me there have been some mistake, and they asked me to give them the address again.
Now I was very angry because the order can get canceled because the shipping and billing does not mach.
I gave her the address again, even do, she should have had the address in her computer- logged from my previous call.
They also told me the shipment is schedule for 10/07/07, another delay-this time the said the date is guaranteed, because they have checked it with the parts shipping department or something like this.

Then another 2 days past and I didn't received any new address in the website, I called again and then I spoke to a Representative named- Augustine Rajesh- ext- 17173 - order status department- USA, He told me he is going to talk directly to the billing department and change it on the spot. He then asked for the address for the third time!
I told him he can just pull her up from the previous calls, but he said he cannot- that's for itself is very strange but I gave him the address again.
I also ask very strongly to speak to a manager regarding my order- he said it will take 24 hours for a manager to call me back, of course no one called me back and nothing with the address was done.

And Today, After I have seen nothing changed on the address and I received a letter from Lenovo saying my order needs to delay more, I called again, asking to speak to Rajesh-ext 17173.
I couldn't reach him and spoke to a representative named- Syed Ahmed -ext 17027 - same department. He then tried to transfer me to Rajesh and of course the call was disconnected- how convenient.
I called again, and talk to Syed, asked him to transfer me to a manager or to Rajesh, He then managed to transfer me to Rajesh.
Then Rajesh told me the shipping address needs to take 24-48 hours to update- that's after 3 weeks have passed since I asked to change it for the first time (now we are standing on 4 times already since, and after I spoke to 3-4 different representatives, and after he told me the day before he is going to change it directly with the billing department on the spot).
I then asked him about the new delay in shipment and he told me its- 10/24/07- that's the new date. I told him to let his manager call me back.
Then I decided to write you guys,

Dear Lenovo customer service and sales team, you shouldn't be selling products you cannot deliver in a reasonable time. In computer world, time is money and I have lost a lot of money and energy waiting for this computer. I had spoke to so many different representatives on you centers, I'm pretty sure and every thing I logged and all the called I made, you can see them clearly.
Now,I'm just tired and exhausted from all the last 2 month. I'm waiting for a phone call from a top manager at my temporary house in Canada.
I checked online and I saw a lot of websites describing the same problem I had. delays in parts-LCD screens- people waiting for months for a laptop- ridiculous situation.

I don't expect a replay for this letter or even a phone call from a manager, because I saw how you work and I was very disappointed with Lenovo dealing with my problems.
So, I'll give you 48 hours just to make my point, and then I will just get my self a brand new Mac-Book.

This is a very unfortunate story. You did cancel the order right? I probably would have done the same.

If you read all the fine print, it says in there somewhere that user-configured (CTO) orders can take longer, and the estimated ship date is only an ESTIMATE, it's not a guarantee, so you never know how long it will actually take.

However, I think Lenovo should make this much more clear, they should put it in big letters or something. Way too many people are ordering CTO systems and then they can't believe it when their order gets delayed for weeks or months. Lenovo should make sure customers know this is a possibility BEFORE placing an order. That would be more responsible of them and there would be less angry customers. The customer needs to know that if he wants to get it quickly, he needs to buy one of the pre-configured systems. Lenovo should be up-front and realistic about how long the delays can be with CTO systems.

They want you to think that you can buy a CTO system for a cheap price and get it just as quickly as a pre-configured system. Yes, this CAN happen, and it does happen most times, like in my case. But sometimes it doesn't happen that way, sometimes there are long delays, and that is a very real risk, and I think they aren't doing a very good job of making sure customers know that before they order.

I have a feeling this probably doesn't happen as much with Dells for example, as Dell has made user-configured systems a strong point since the company started. That's kind of how they got their foot in the door and made a name for themselves, by offering custom options at a low price, and getting it to you quickly. Lenovo on the other hand didn't do as much of that until recently, maybe they dont' have their system streamlined very well yet or something. I think there are changes being made in recent times and they haven't worked out all the kinks yet in their process.

 

Not to make anyone angry, but:

But, somehow I got lucky, and the order was shipped on 10/06/2007!

Package is now in transit, and is supposed to arrive tommorrow =)

 

rraju: You didn't have a WUXGA screen, did you? The WSXGA+ screens are shipping very quickly.

 

I ordered mine with a WSXGA+ screen and have been waiting 2 weeks already.

 

Makes me wonder when my 4:3 SXGA+ is coming. I ordered on the same day as you and got the same ESD, but it hasn't shipped yet.

 

I also ordered a WSXGA+ screen on 9/25 with an estimated ship date of 10/12. Have my fingers crossed that it does ship near estimated date.

My order will get cancled they said in the letter if I will not reply with 5 days, and I'm more then done replying them or talking to them.
Their are a lot of laptop brands out there, and I will be more then happey to find one instad of the thinkpad I didn't recived yet.
So for now I'm just waiting for my order to get cancled and then I will just buy somthing else, my only regret is that I should have done this a long time ago.

Well I ordered a T61P 15.4'' WSXGA+ on 10/03 with an ESD of 10/22 and it was just shipped today 10/10!

Except for Vista, you got the same configuration I got and it took a good 2 weeks before mine shipped. I couldn't figure out what was the holdup. But Lenovo sent is Express so I got it a couple of days later.

 

I think they are waiting for your T7500 which is being shipped via donkey carrier

 

Not sure if this means much or not, but I just checked my order status on IBM's site (my IBM>Customer Support>Orders and delivery>Get order status) instead of Lenovo's and my order status says "scheduled to ship" (still shows my original scheduled date of 10/12). They seem to show a lot more detail on order status and options than Lenovo.

That's excellent mate, thanks!! The IBM site certainly does show loads more info than the Lenovo website. It still gives the same dates though, Oct 15th as the ship date. At least there's more than two statuses there unlike the Lenovo site!!!

Wake up this morning, get into work and the status on my shipping has changed to:-

I ordered mine on October 5th, and as of October 8, Lenovo's site said it would be available on the 24th.

I have a question....does anyone think my order will be delayed past the shipping date because I ordered it with the 15.4 with WSXGA+ widescreen and new 160 GB 7200 rpm HDD?

 

Mine had exactly the same specs so I can't imagine why it should!

 

Well my laptop came in a day early! It was shipped 10/10 and I got it today (10/11) even though I selected ground! To get it from HK to SoCal then to NorCal in 24 hours is pretty darn amazing.

Man, I cannot believe how lame this is. I've been following this thread and feeling the communal angst for the last 3 weeks while waiting for my t61. The estimated ship date came and went today, so I decided to mark this sad day with my very first post on the forum.
So after calls over several weeks, Lenovo sales reps say my computer's specifically being delayed by a constraint on 14.1" WSXGA screens. The website still thinks estimated ship on 10/11, but rep says new ship date is 10/15 (though I kinda don't know if I should really believe that either).
Has anyone else experienced this? Does the WSXGA constraint really exist and is it the 14" in particular or all WSXGAs? Has anyone discovered anything you can do when your estimated date passes? Can I get money or accessories at this point or is my case not outrageous enough yet?

I ordered my T61 on 10/7/2007 with an ESD of 10/25/2007. I am hoping to get it sooner rather than later. I am wondering if I should go the Outlet route. Let me know what you think.

Tinkerbot, you ordered yours two days before mine and were given the same ship date as me (although I was notified it was shipping today at some point). Bearing in mind some of the waits people are suffering if yours does ship by 10/15 I would say that's not too bad. I have fingers crossed for you mate!!

Did you try looking at the order status on the IBM website? there's much more information there.

 

Before I settled on the T61P I looked at a Dell XPS M1330. You think Lenovo are suffering delays? You wanna hear the delays many of their customers are suffering.

Just over two weeks for the configuring of a user defined specification. That doesn't sound too bad to me.
