How did you convince him to add you to the priority list? That would be a good thing to be able to pull off...

 

He offered without any demand on my part - other then a firm
insistence that I wanted to do something to improve on 11/15.

Well, mine shipped. The new ESD of 11/15 must have been a mistake.

Just ordered a 200G hard drive and 4G of ram from newegg. Everything should be here by Friday. I can't wait!

That's the same date I ordered mine. Ship date was originally 10/12 but got bumped back to 10/30. Cust serv told me due to the screen...we'll see. I'll call again today to try to light a fire under them as I need this ASAP. If they had been up front about the shipping delay, I would have ordered something else.

I called them a little while ago and got the same fellow I spoke with in the 12th (when my original ship date passed). He told me he'd put it on priority and thanked me for not being "one of those guys who calls every single day to ask where the laptop is." He also relayed that all the parts are in stock now and there are quite a few that are being assembled and shipped this week. Still, I'm skeptical and am trying not to let it get to me.

 

I ordered a similar configuration a day earlier than you and had an original ESD of 9/12 which was changed to 10/30 on the 13th. I was guessing that the delay was due to a shortage of T7800 CPUs. Now that yours has been shipped it seems that the T7800 is not what's holding up my order now. Hopefully mine will ship earlier than my than revised ESD as well. Not sure why they wait until the ESD comes and goes to figure out that it won't be shipping on time.

BTW: congrats ziti.. hope they fix that plane fast and get you your laptop

 

I ordered a T61p 15.4 widescreen laptop on 10/11 and have an estimated shipping date off 10/30. I am hoping it doesn't take anywhere near this long.

I just don't understand how a computer company like this can have this long of a wait for shipping. I have a friend that ordered a MBP the same day as I did, and his shipped 3 days after his order went through. Both were configured, so I don't see how one company has an almost 3 week wait for shipping (and from reading on here, most of the time more) while another company has a 2-3 day wait until shipping. I could understand if the demand for the thinkpads excede those of the MBP, but that is far from the truth at this moment. I have heard great things about the thinkpads, but my current experience with the ordering aspect has already left me sour.

I just hope that this laptop doesn't come close to taking as long as their estimated shipping date has stated.

Makes the price even more tempting since it stacks with instant savings. That said, I cancelled my order this morning because it was not going to ship until mid-November. Just can't wait that long and they were not willing to expedite.

I'm likely ordering a preconfig'd, ready to ship 8510p instead. I'm not too bummed since by all reports the screen should be nicer (need to do moderate graphics work), and the overall profile is slimmer.

 

I called support the other day trying the same thing as wazo above. He said the order wasn't confirmed yet, and he'd do that and email me an updated shipping date.

He told me that the shipping date was "very approximate" (which we all already knew) and to call back once I had an update.

Anyway, the interesting information here is that if you call soon after placing an order, it will get confirmed faster, if this rep is telling the truth.

 

I order my T61p on 9/26. Web site said it would ship 10/15. 10/16 web site updates and says it will ship 11/15. Called Lenovo Order Status or whatever they are called. Screen backordered. Called sales directly, went through the motions to buy the exact same T61p and asked if there was anything that would delay the shipment and they put me on hold then came back and said no, all parts were readily available and system would ship within 2 weeks. Called Lenovo Order Status folks again and asked them why sales says parts are available and they promptly tell me sales people don't know anything and just take orders.....nice.....not sure I can wait until 11/15 for the laptop. Guess we'll see. This may be my first and LAST time ever dealing with Lenovo. The Order Status folks were just downright rude...... Of course, through all of this, I NEVER received anything from Lenovo about delays are re-scheduling, which just makes matters worse. Lenovo Order Status has pathetic communications......

Very strange. Not sure if that story about the screen is correct. I have the same screen and virtually the same laptop as you ordered (other than XP, I have Vista Business) and I ordered it the same day (09/26) and got it on Monday this week..........

 

After I talked to a rep today, Est. Ship date moved to 01/02/08.

 

Ordered 10/17, esd was 11/5. I checked my email today and they sent an update with a 1/2/08 ship date. When I ordered there was NOT a red note saying "could delay your shipping date by..." on any part in my config. A three month wait time is ridiculous. I've not called in yet, but...Thanks for letting me vent!

With this sort of delay in the delivery of these cutting-edge laptops, I would seriously ask for a refund due to when you receive them, they are not as cutting -edge as when you ordered them. Six months in the computer hardware business is an eternity. A three month delay should be worth a 15-20% kickback.

My guess is that the Chinese are so freaking cheap, they hold out for a couple of months until they get a better deal on the components from there suppliers. And you get the shaft.

 

this is crazy, they had a constraint on screens last week and told me that the laptop would definitely be shipped by 19th. but when i called them yesterday, they came up with constraint on graphics card. did anyone get such a reply?

 

Hey does anyone know if the shipping delays are happening with all T61's, or only the T61p?

I'm thinking of ordering a 14" (non-widescreen) T61, should I expect long delays? Couple weeks is OK by me right now, couple months is not.

OK. After reading this thread I am officially frustrated. It is unthinkable that a company I have considered so reputable has such a lousy way of treating the customers. I've ordered the T61p via SPP on 10/16. Gosh, it's already been too long.

The shipping date says 11/15. I've called the hotline and told them I can't afford to wait so long because I'm leaving the country for quite some time soon. They told me that my order is approved, and would arrive around 11/2.

Now I see that my account has been recredited. (Or maybe hasn't been credited at all, but I doubt that.) However, I haven't received any information from them and my order status still shows "In process". Anyone experienced this?

Well, if they cancelled my order without even bothering to let me know, I will be seriously annoyed. The thing is - what can I do about it at all? Unleashing my wrath on underpaid customer line folks doesn't seem like the way to go, and ranting on forums won't do anyone much good, either. *sigh*

 

Judging from all these posts, I must be about the world's luckiest guy as far as these T61p's go. Ordered 10/12, shipped 10/18! Looks like customs held it, though... And shame on Lenovo for using UPS... Showed up in town friday night, but they're closed Saturday and I couldn't pick up!

I'll take this form of holding any day.... I had a T43 that sat in this customs spin cycle for 9 days a couple of years ago. My recent purchases have gone through in the same evening like this one. I agree with you, FedEx seems to have their act together much better than UPS, but a lot of the fault in this case is Lenovo's as documentation (or lack thereof) was mostly the problem with customs. They'd ship systems ahead of the invoices and they would not clear them until the documentation caught up. Seems like this issue has been resolved now.

Interesting. I ordered mine on the same day with a very similar setup. I was told that my screen (same as yours) was the issue. Hrmm...

As to the laptop itself I absolutely love it. It's by far the best laptop I have ever used, the screens fantastic, I actually like Vista believe it or not!!! The speed of it's fantastic too, it boots up unbelievably quickly.

I haven't loaded any games onto it yet (I'm thinking of buying Bioshock later today) so I'm looking forward to seeing how it handles that!!

 

Ordered a T61 October 15, in-hands (New Jersey) October 22.

I say this not to create envy, but just to share information. Shout-out to Lenovo for this one.

 

Just for the sake of transparency...I received a call from Lenovo CS today saying that they'll ship my system on 10/27. For the record, ordered 9/25 ESD of 10/12. On 10/12, my ESD changed to 10/30. Hopefully it actually ships on the 27th and customs isn't an issue.

 

I also ordered mine on 9/25 with an original ESD of 10/12 which was changed to 10/30 like yours. Still shows ESD to be 10/30 (I called about a week ago and was told mine would ship the 19th but no such luck) I'm hoping it doesn't slide anymore than the 30th.

What configuration did you order?

 

Today I got an email saying that it shipped on 10/21. I hope this is true and that someone just wanted to jerk my chain about the Jan date. I'll let you know when it is actually in my hands.

I know that the shipping date on the website does not reflect reality at all, both from personal experience and because a rep told me that their system was crap and they're updating it next year.

 

Just to confirm another batch of Laptops shipped on October 21st.

Among them was mine thankfully. =) I ordered on October 3rd so I'm pretty happy with the shipment date.

 

If only my October 3rd order shipped. ESD was today, so maybe it did ship after all, just won't know until tomorrow.

oh goodness, the t61p i ordered on 10/4 with an esd of 10/23 has now been pushed back to 1/4/08! i configured with the 9 cell and the dvd rw drive.

*sigh* i think im going to cancel this order and buy an ASUS if i cant switch some configurations around to get this lappy sooner.

 

It shipped! After changing my ESD yesterday from 10/22 to 11/22, Lenovo shipped my T61p last night UPS express, it is already in Louisville. Go figure.

My shipping date is today, and I checked this morning at 11, and it said in progress, ESD 10/24....If I check around 7:30 pm, will it have changed, or will i have to worry....I'm getting tired of my craptop (read specs below).
