EDIT: FYI, my 7/22 order is still showing 8/23 as the ESD.

 

Thats their older stuff. Check out the 8510w. The price sucks, but its a direct competitor to the T61p

 

Guess thats what I get for building all my desktops from newegg (this will be my first laptop).

 

Well, just think what happens any time Nvidia is about to release a new video card... They announce it and send out samples to reviewers about 3 months before you can actually buy one.

This T61p is also going to be my first laptop, and my first system in about 6 years that I didn't build myself.

I agree. I'd be all over the 8510W if I could get it cheaper.

 

I know, but the fact is, when newegg says something is in stock, and they have it advertised as you can buy it right now, you actually can buy it right now.

and I was looking more for something like the 8510p, becasue workstation graphics would be nice and all, but the consumer equivalent would work just as fine for me. But wait, AMD cant make enough ATi chips or something, so that isnt gonna be out anytime soon either. What is it with me and hard to obtain laptops

 

Nice alternative though not much options to configure... not even Vista Ultimate... By the way, I tried ordering HP Compaq 8710w Mobile Workstation. Guess what: Estimated Ship Date 9/2/2007 :laugh:

I wonder what would happen if we organized an e-mail complaint to lenovo about this. Not anything illegal like spamming but if every one of us sent a single e-mail complaining about their seeming lack of caring about customer service and getting the laptops sent out.

I'm not sure how many of us there would be (if only 20 people sent complaints in it wouldn't do much) but maybe we could get enough.

Maybe a petition or something would be better but petitions are really tough to get taken seriously when they are e-signed...

Just a thought anyways but yeah, I agree if you absolutely must have your laptop before september lenovo may not be the right choice.

 

I'm pretty torn between the t61p, the 8510p and the 8510w...but with these kind of shipping dates I might as well go get an Asus G1s

 

I have sent one of the managers and his supervisor an e-mail explaining that this is the worst buying experience I have ever had... twice! I have gotten a couple phone calls and e-mail stating that they agree that it is very poor customer service and they are working on... yada yada... buncha BS... yada yada... blowing smoke.. yada yada.

 

The G1S has tempted me several times. It just looks like a gaming machine... I guess because that's what it is However the Asus V1S is a gonna be a bad @$$ business machine. Unfortunately it hasn't been released yet. I suppose they are being smart and not releasing it until they can actually ship it, but it should be soon.

fyi: I ordered 7/17, my ESD is still 8/17. NO other messages from Lenovo other than a request for a review of their service.

As to NO displays, unless CDW is lieing to me, that's not true either, CDW got a shipment of these T61Ps, sold them out, and is getting another shipment next week.

As to Sony's horrible serivce, I agree, at least, my experience with them in the p2 300mhz days was true. 3+ months to resolve a dead drive and finally with it unresolved after 3 months I returned it to the reseller.

After swearing I'd never own another Sony computer I just bought another Sony, the SZ. Going to outsmart them this time (I hope) getting the 3 yr on site service warranty (which surely is farmed out to someone.) If all else fails, hopefully Amex will protect me.
Oh, and this is a new model, just released Aug 1st, and, um, it shipped today


Will review for all next week.

The Sony Vaio Series has always to me been the worst system i have ever worked with or on.. I have seen so many with issues over several years.. As for this whole matter I dont think I will ever attempt to custom order a laptop again, its just a tool and there are some seriously good configurations on the market ready to ship. I relize that with the whole coupon thing you can get a super deal and like they say nothing in life is free, if your getting what i paid 2300 dollars for at 1,000 then just tune this all out, be thankful for the discount and bide your time because once you get the package the entire mess will be over with and just a memory..

It will be interesting to see one person get a laptop, i cant figure out why this guy would be the only one esp with an order on the 12th

In an interesting industry note, Microsoft used it's mouse and keyboard manufacturing connections to have that same company create xbox when they first came out.

Seems like it started in Shenzen, went to Guangzhou, went through US customs as it was leaving China (which is why I believe it labled it as Louisville), then went to Incheon and is now en route to Louisville.

 

Are t61p machines ordered with Vista Ultimate coming with 32 or 64 bit verions? Can you specify?

 

Unless it says "64-bit" you are getting 32-bit. I believe the only 64-bit OS offered on the t61P is the Business.

It doesn't matter really. Most people find that they need to do a clean install to get rid of the "bloatware" causing a sluggish and buggy system. If you click the clean install link in my sig it will show you step-by-step how to go from 32-bit to 64-bit for about $5.

 

So I was told mine was going to be shipping today. It still hasn't happened. I'm going to be pretty upset it if doesn't. But I wouldn't do anything rash

 

Almost nobody receives word (site update or email) that their laptop has shipped until about a day or two later. So, I wouldn't be too worried until you check tomorrow morn/afternoon and realize that Lenovo lied yet again (what a suprise... ).

 

As far as i know they don't ship laptops one by one ( USUALLY ), they ship like 2 weeks orders or more together as a big shipment , so when they start shipping we will hear from a lot of people that their system is coming

Here's the order status page from my "new" order. They sent me an email exactly like the very first one I got on July 18, saying "Thanks for your order, it was received, etc. etc." It still says ordered July 17, yet the ESD has been moved from 8/17 to 9/5, the price has now decreased from about $1990 to $1830, and they changed my components too! If you take a look at GarryF's thread over on the Thinkpad forums ( http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=46051&start=120), it appears that someone in Los Angeles received a T61p.

 

Shouldn't this be the point of the critical list? That your order is so critical that it is shipped as soon as it it built. With my luck mine has been built for four days now and is sitting waiting to be shipped because someone else tried to order something ridiculous. Anyway, I need mine by the 8th of this month, but It doesn't look like that is going to happen.

 

No way in hell. BTW, I don't take pleasure in saying that. I really need mine too. It's very frustrating. I waited four months for T61 w/nVidia to be released and now I'm going to have to wait anywhere from 1 to 2 months from the order date to get it in my hands.

 

I know stallen.... I just keep holding on to a false sense of hope that it will get here by then. It won't I know.

 

What kind of pisses me off is that CDW got one batch of T61Ps and sold them and is getting another batch of them this week. I'd bail on Lenovo and get one from CDW but they can't match the price and I'll have a Sony Vaio SZ650 to play with on Tuesday. That ought to keep me busy for a few weeks and the need for the P may vaporize. With the perpetual backorder I might just flip the P on fleabay and make a few bucks. I'll decide if I keep it when(if) it arrives - what I really wanted was the 4lb 14" t61P, but they don't offer that model to the consumer, only on the EDU site and it's $1k more.

This would have been my first thinkpad. I have no loyalty to Lenovo and highly doubt they'll earn it with this nonsense. Just jerking the customer around. I mean why not offer the 14" to everyone? That's just stupid. And yea, I know they'll discount the $1k back down for EDU customers so why not for us? Jerkoffs. Not only that, but if the 15.4" WXUGA screen is such a problem letting us switch to 14s would help alleviate the problem.

 

Dude I ordered on 7/26 too with same ESD!! Hopefully it is true!! Lets pray together!! hahaha I called the lady a while back and she said that it is possible for the laptop to ship before ESD, but I don't know if she is trustworthy.

 

I ordered last week and my ESD is 9/2.

 

My ESD still shows the 30th. I have not seen a change since it moved to the 30th.

 

I don't think you will unless it goes past that date. The manager I spoke to (same one you spoke to) said that date really means nothing. Especially if you are on the "critical list". Something to do with critical list people are entered in "manually" and the electronic update site doesn't have the capability to track manually adjusted orders. I don't bother looking at the update page anymore. I figure I'll get an e-mail when it ships.

 

Yeah, I don't think "that manager" likes me anymore. I said something rash a few posts back. I didn't mean anything by it and I had no idea he would read it. Good thing it got deleted. I have no idea if he read that or is reading this, but I just hope he knows that I was just messing around. "that manager" was very helpful and I hope that I am still on his good side. BTW, I will completely deny any knowledge of rash statements or any involvment in this forum if I were to be asked.

 

Hmm, I still don't have details on my order status page, but my ESD haven't changed. My ESD is 8/23. Placed my order on the 7/19, but it really went trough after adjustments to price on 7/22.

Okay, so I decided to log on to the lenovo website and check on my status and my custimer number and order number are both invalid now. I can still click on the link that they emailed me to check on my order status and nothing has changed except the missing details.

I think I should give them a call and to see what is going on with my order.
You guys think my order is still on course?

 

That's actually pretty good. you're less than one month.

 

My details are gone too. Is it just a site change or is there something wrong with my order?
