They are actually doing you a favor. They would likely charge $600 or more.

I thought I recalled seeing thunderbolt as an option for the T430S with the i7. Did I imagine that? -
-
-
What is the model number of the FHD panel in W530? Is it the same AUO B156HW01 V4 as in W510 and W520?
-
Just some advice before I pull the trigger: Right now I'm leaning toward the T430s with a bay battery, a 180gb SSD, and then getting an external HDD for storing my music collection and other space-consuming stuff. Is this a practical setup for an incoming college student? How much of a hassle is the external?
-
-
-
and keep the standard 500GB 7200RPM drive for storage. -
Just some clarification for a newbie: If I did this, I would just swap out the HDD for the Mushkin on my own and use the HDD as an external? How exactly does an mSATA work?
-
-
That sounds like an excellent idea. Thank you so much for that!

Can anyone actually confirm that the resolution of the w530 FHD monitor is 1900x1080 instead of 1920x1080? That seems weird.

Well, I'm looking at this configuration for a T430s:
Intel Core i5-3320M Processor (3M Cache, 2.60GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
Intel Core i5-3320M Processor (3M Cache, 2.60 GHz) with Intel HD Graphics 4000
4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
UltraNav without FingerPrint Reader
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable
6 Cell Lithium Battery T81+
None
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (2x2 BGN)
Mobile Broadband upgradable
1 Year Depot/Express Warranty
$861.75 before taxes. A T430 of a similar configuration is $734.25. I will most likely sell the optical drive to make room for an Ultrabay adapter. -
Looks like Lenovo did it again for the W series, RAID looks like it needs to be configured before hand since it will probably be a different motherboard. -
I'm not familiar with laptop RAID, but are you saying if I ordered it without RAID configured, I wouldn't be able to set up a RAID?
I was actually thinking of just having two separate drives. SSD in the main slot for OS/programs and the optical drive bay for platter data drive... -
It has been 24 hours after I placed my order and I cannot find any status online as if the order did not exist. Is anyone in the same boat?
-
I see that my order was placed when I view my account on orders but I haven't gotten any order status information.
-
Yesterday, I tweaked out this order, which I was quite pleased with until I was hit with the sales tax:

I decided on Home Premium, because I'm just going to install my own Enterprise version of Win 7. Coming from a 1920 x 1200 screen, I don't know how I'm going to fare with this newfangled 1900 x 1080.
And though I've never used a ThinkPad, I was definitely turned off by the new chiclets. But after some review of the entire matter, and after using my mother's Sony that has a chiclet KB, I realized I might actually really like that new keyboard. For one, I'm assuming that Lenovo does KB's better than Sony. So, we'll see. If it works out, we'll be saying, "If it ain't broke, maybe we can make it better." I hope so.
Anyway, now I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestion for finding the proper RAM at a good price, and ALSO for getting a DVD recordable drive and extra HDD caddy for that bay? -
.
-
I feel like I'm looking in the wrong place, because everything on the Lenovo website for the T430s and T430 is much more expensive than the quotes I see in this thread. Heck, neither of the default T430s options even starts under $1000.
-
I just closed the conversation as he does not know what he is talking about.
I do not like it that some big companies cannot still handle launches after all these ages in this business! -
But, ever the optimist (no, not really), I was looking through a thread and saw that someone was saying that they went through Mastercard Marketplace. Also, I'm not necessarily advising this next step, but I realized that they're charging 120 for a DVD-recordable drive. Which is heinous...I think...I'm not sure. but I'll take the chance. So, I added RAID and then removed RAID. This gave me a 320gb 5400 rpm drive (which isn't even offered) and no optical. I upped the HDD to 7200 for like 40, and left out the optical, because I'm hoping to get it more reasonably elsewhere. Also, try playing around with the color sensor options. You can get a little bit off on one of those. And the ultra nav without...ahh...play with all the radio buttons and see what happens. I fooled around with it for a good four hours to tweak it. I wanted to tell people I got the whole thing with the k2000m for less than 1300. But Sales tax screwed that up. Anyway, play with ALL of the radio buttons for ALL of the options and see what they take off or add.
Best of luck. -
A representative from Lenovo today told me there are docking stations with USB 3.0 that will be released later. Do you know if this is true? Also, I do not find any of the converters of mini-display to VGA or DVI
-
Yes there will be a new dock with usb 3.0 port.

do most thinkpads, these new ones especially, allow for upgrades to the wireless cards?
i ask because ive read that 802.11ac cards for mobile will be released late 2012 into 2013, and would want one of those if i purchased a new laptop within the next few months. -
down the road, if you purchase a card from lenovo, it may be included in the whitelist from a bios update. If you want to use an aftermarket card, you will have to rely on some programmers to remove the bios whitelist for you (eg: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Request-Lenovo-X220-Bios-1-24-whitelist-removal) -
