For anyone looking for coupon codes, below is the one I used. You may have to go through the Mastercard Marketplace. Don't worry, I don't have a mastercard either.
I'm not sure if this is still valid, but there was something about it being good until the 19th.
Give it a shot, is all I can say. That's what I did as far as going the MC MP. I definitely thought that they'd require a mastercard.
mastercardmarketplace.com > electronics > consumer electronics > scroll down and click on the w520 picture (I think that this can be used for any of the systems). You might have to create an account (I don't remember the exact order of how I got there). Enter any info you want to for your user info.
Right now, I think that they have another coupon code entered by default, but I found that with this one the discount was better. But I'd say experiment.
Code: USXJUNESAVINGS2012
-
The Barnes and Noble site offers the same discount as well:
http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrar...old&affinity=barnesnoblegold&menu-id=products
USXJUNESAVINGS2012 applied by default. -
The rest of the lineup has discounts available, except the T530 and W530 no longer reflect ANY discount, whether it's through my corporate discount site, or mastercard's marketplace. Any ideas what's going on?
-
Try the link below. When I go into the MCMP, there's a discount. The coupon code is different, and the discount isn't as great, but nonetheless.
This brings me right to a choice of W520 or W530, I can go to the menu and select any other system. The coupon code is now: USXEPPPLUS0606

By the way, my shipping status has changed.
From a ship date estimate of the 11th to today, the 9th. Arrival date is estimated for the 14th. -
Thanks WilyWilly. Your linked worked, and I can now see the discount for the T530.
Great to hear about your quicker-than-expected ship date. Hope your system arrives sooner than later! -
Is it true that the T430s support the ThinkPad Battery 28++ 9-cell Slice?
-
Bellissimo!
I just went in there, out of curiosity to look at the T530's and the 1900 x1080 option was at the top of the Display Type list as default. The 1600 x 900 was listed as (add $50). Oddness.
The backlit keyboard is at $0. -
I was wondering:
Is Hynix memory any good? I basically have simply thrown memory into my machines in the past and it's always worked (for years and years), but I saw some of this stuff for a good price and wondering if it's just trashy. -
Hynix makes RAM chips for many of the major OEMs, including Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, Mushkin, G. Skill and many others. It's one of the three major ram chip producers, along with Samsung and Micron. It's not trashy by any means.

FYI, the 20-25% off code (USXJUNESAVINGS2012) still appears to be working via Lenovo's higher education student site (how I ordered my W530), where interestingly enough they don't ask for a .edu e-mail address (I do have a .edu e-mail address, but I didn't need to give it to them) and say nothing about requiring that you're actually a student in order to use it. When you go to Lenovo's main site, use the top navigation bar to choose Solutions for Education, then pick Higher Education Student, from which they give you a link to the student store. Click that and you'll be taken to a screen where they ask you to pick your school. Choose the link in the lower left for "if your school is not listed" and it will take to to a version of Lenovo's main site with all the best discount codes are active until June 12th-14th (depending on the code you're using - the one above is valid until the 13th)

This is crazy, people place orders, soon they will have their Thinkpads, but theres no reviews not counting x230
...
-
Are there any stores that have ThinkPads in person (besides the Edge)? Or is there no chance of seeing one in person before getting it?
-
Some university computer stores have them. Thinkpads are not carried in retail consumer stores.

That's good, because the brand name on this ram is Super Talent, not exactly a household name.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I think Stanford has some ThinkPad models on display, but as it's been stated, ThinkPads in general don't sell in retail. -
They're fairly well know in the right market. They also were big in making some of the earlier SSDs, back when a 256GB SSD cost over $2000.
-
So, given a choice between samsung RAM and Super Talent is there any appreciable difference in quality in the same price range?
Also, what are the specs of the system you ordered, and what was the total...if you don't mind my asking? -
There's not much difference between most brands of RAM, in my opinion.
And I ordered a Thinkpad W530 with 1920x1080 screen, Quadro K2000M graphics, i7-3720QM CPU, backlit keyboard, 500GB 7200RPM hard drive, Windows 7 Pro, Intel Ultimate wireless, 4GB RAM, no webcam or color calibrator, DVD burner, Bluetooth, 9-cell battery, with a 3-year warranty with accidental damage coverage. Total with tax (after discount) was $1855. -
^^
assuming you'll be adding ram and an ssd later?
that thing should be a monster. -
Funny that you should mention that, as I've (not so) coincidentally placed an order on Newegg for a 256GB Samsung 830 series SSD and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM that should arrive at roughly the same time.
-
I wanna ask a question that may look naive to most people here but there you go: why one would want a mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter that lenovo has just released if the new ThinkPad lineup already has a VGA port so why is the need for this adapter?
-
It's for the X1 Carbon and the T430u coming in the future, both of which won't have VGA.
-
Oh, I see! Thanks.

People with monitors that have a native resolution above 1920x1080 typically need a digital connection to drive them. Dual link DVI was first. Then came DisplayPort and Thunderbolt. -
I just added a DVD recordable for $40, ebay new. During the order process that would have been $120 (minus discount, but plus Optical Bay Travel Bezel, which is easily a $.14 value:laugh: ). And I went for 2 x 4gb Samsung RAM sticks from Newegg for $48. During ordering, 4gb was $160.
I'm going to see how 12gb treats me, since I've never gone over 7gb usage that I know of while posting my comments on youtube, and I'm a big believer in hibernation.
I have a fantasy about having 32gb, but I also have a fantasy about having it cheaper, which will happen soon enough for my needs.
So, from reading this board and trying to glean as much information and advice possible, I've saved quite a bit on this purchase. -

yeah I had 32GB in my Dell M6600, I run a shed load of VMs for customer demos and such and its not unusual for me to run 10+ VMs, and I think the most ram I used was about 20GB...
I had solid state disks and the bottleneck wasn't the RAM
I'm going for the X230T now putting 16GB in it and still don't expect too many problems.
I consider myself a very heavy RAM user and thought I would use 32GB, turned out to be for bragging rights only... still it was nice

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 230t. Can anyone with outdoor usage experience comment on their experience with either the outdoor and /or non-outdoor screens. I tried to search for answers already but the search engine doesnt work for me.
I do a lot of outdoor wireless survey work and need to know if the Gorilla glass screen is really that much better than the multi-touch. Looking at some videos there seems to be a lot of glare coming off that outdoor screen (at least from videos shot inside) I had a a Sony Vaio a few years back and never did like the glossy screen. Just want to know if it's worth giving up multitouch for

Estimated shipping date has now gotten moved to the 17th from the 9th (originally the 11th).
-
That is so disappointing! What is the status itself other than the date? Mine still showing "order received" and ship date of 6/12 without delivery date.
I think there is a mess up in the factory. My dock ship date was yesterday, Today, it became the 13th and delivery 19th (seems like they will come from China too. -
I ordered a T530 on 6/6 and my shipping date is also 6/12. I'm pretty confident that it will ship at that time, since Lenovo tends to manufacture in batches and ship them to KY before separating them.
-
My ship date was supposedly on June 10th, and it's probably June 11th over in China by now. It's still "in production".
-
Is your status "order received" or "in production"?
-
The 10th was definitely an inaccurate date since even if you was the first to order after the launch, the earliest ship date was the 11th. I do not like it when ship dates are inaccurate. Some companies do a really good job when it comes to estimated shop dates!
-
I ordered mine on the 6th, the day after.
-
I ordered on the launch day at 5:00 am and my ship date is the 12th and it states "order received". I do not have have much hopes for on time delivery. This is not Apple
-
i ordered a T430s on the 6th and my status is Released to Manufacturing the ship date is the 12th
-
Different statuses make it very confusing. Also, I was very disappointed that they no longer offer the expedited shipping option. Not sure why they did that when some people need their machine very quickly and can pay for that option!

There is a shipping thread at the top of all of the Lenovo forums at lenovo.com. See the top of T400 / T500 and newer T series ThinkPad Laptops - Lenovo Community
You might get an idea from real employees on what is going on. -
Mine is "Released to Manufacturing"
-
Yeah, that's the second phase. Third and final phase is "In production".
-
I am gonna commit a suicide, Lenovo if you messed up my order
I chat with many agents and they told me that line has been sent to the warehouse but the status is still order received and shop day is the 12th. Living in the unknown!!
-
Does anybody else here unable to see their order?
I can't access the page since yesterday -
I had the same situation when I ordered on launch day and could not find my status for 2 days and every rep tried to convince me to just wait till I discovered that my damn order was pending because of an "IT error" that did not transfer the order into the system. Basically, it is as of you did not order. You have to follow up on that. The maximu it should take for your order to appear in the system is 6 hours.
-
My order was inexplicably cancelled today, ugh.
-
Oh, not that I can't see my order, it's that I can't see the page where I can put in my order number to check (it's not loading on chrome), so is anybody having the same problem? I was able to a few days ago, but not now
I also almost had mine cancelled by I called them to verify and the let it go through -
Oh, got you. Sorry for being confused. I have tried and I can open the order status page and plug in the info. and see the order.
-
They're having security certificate issues on the order-checking site, so it's likely Chrome is blocking it. Try another (less secure) browser like IE.
Thanks, yea, tried calling today, but they're closed, so trying again first thing tomorrow. -
Did you take advantage of the office glitch? Because now I'm feeling worried
