I got the i7 3610QM. I work with multiple VMs at times, sometimes I convert large video files etc. But I think it doesn't matter that much as I'll probably replace the machine in two years anyway. It was just a good offer and the 3610QM gives a good bang for the buck I guess.
Should be quite a step from my T400s (core2Duo 9600 with 8GB and Intel 300GB SSD). Although it's a great machine it's starting to feel a little slow at times.
Maybe Lenovo releases a thin and powerful 15" model with a FHD (or higher) IPS screen next year. Then I'll probably replace the t530. Until then I guess there's just no better option.
Looking forward to the bigger display too. 14" 16:10 was OK but with 14" 16:9 it was starting to feel too tiny. In terms of mobility, actually I use my thinkpad 95% of the time in a docking station either at home or at a customer site. So carrying the weight around isn't so much the issue. It's just frustrating to know that other manufacturers are able to fit the same hardware in a slimmer case and Lenovo hasn't changed anything in the T5xx line.
-
Regarding your disappointment with Lenovo 'inability' or better say 'laziness' and 'unwillingness' to fit all the good things in a slim 14" machine, I cannot agree any more with you. Unfortunately, asl long as they have their customers for these machines, they will never change their practices even they whine. Sales is the driving force and I guess they sell, especially for corporates and government.
Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury yet to change my machine every year or I would not care much living with any machine for a year and looking forward to the next. -
Is there a difference in keyboard manufacturer this time around? Have they released which keyboard is made by NMV, chicony, etc.?
-
Hey
I looked on the web and checked out all the videos and pics I could get my hands on...
Where are the speakers of the X1?
I see none around the keyboard, none on the sides, none underneath, none in the back, none at the screen. Only place left is at the front, but that seems to thin. I did not find an image with a shot from the front that showed the speakers.
Anybody know what's going on?
thx! -

Thanks imbthink!
Anybody want to risk a statement with regards to what such 4mm sound holes sound like? -
The original X1 had a very similar arrangement, and the sound is not so bad (thanks to Dolby v4):

Thanks.
Researched a tad more, getting myself a t430s.
Question, does anybody know a place to get good deals in Europe.
Or any US etailer that ships to EU?
The prices I see at geizhals are crazy compared to what our US brethren get, 1850E, which is like 2300USD -
Lenovo's website has been down for long time before midnight and it states:
The Lenovo Web site is currently unavailable but will return soon. To place or check on the status of an order or for any other enquiries, please contact a Lenovo representative during regular business hours.
Does anyone think something new may be coming up (Early X1C for example? or FHD display in T430(s) as a response to their valued customers in this forum)
-
The entire site didn't go down when they released the T/X/Wx30 Thinkpads. I doubt this is for a new product.

chaps - for those of us in the UK it looks like since the Lenovo site has come back up all the new models are available for purchase.... apart from the X230T ofc because that's the one I want
anyway - looks like they didn't proof read their stuff, unless of course the W530 is meant to be over £15,600lol
Laptop computers - ThinkPad W Series - ThinkPad W530 - United Kingdom (GB) | Lenovo | (GB)
EDIT - customise the laptop, change it to internal RAID and the price jumps to £23,000Outstanding.

I knew W Series are expensive in the UK... but the cheapest being £15,000 (~$23,500 USD)! Damn!
Well on the bright side, at least you save £217 off the list price!
Hmmm a Car or a W530... hard choices indeed. -
cars are overrated.... just get a W530, you know you want it.

Ordered T430 on 6/5 ship date was 6/11 (1st lie), new ship date today 6/18 (2nd lie), 3rd lie coming soon...
Gave up and ordered T530 on 6/13 ship date was tomorrow 6/19 (1st lie), new ship date 6/24, do not know what else will happen next...
I started to feel it's only the miserable me since no one complains about shipping dates.
I am without a machine and keep loaning machines. Thanks Lenovo (I do not think you care). -
I ordered w530 on 6/16, orig ship date at checkout was 6/22.
Order Status webpage now says 6/24, and just today it changed from "Order Received" to "Released to Manufacturing" -

I just find it strange that everyone who ordered with or after me got their machines shipped and I wonder why is that? I am actually thinking of may be just take which ever comes first (T430 or T530) even if I ended up with the T430 with crappy display just because of the time factor.
Need an advice: If I was so lucky to get the 2 machines at the same time and knowing that they have the same exact specs except that the T530 has the FHD and for me, it is about $300 more expensive. Do you think I should just live with the T430 display knowing that I do not do any video/photo editing, play games, or watch movies on my machine? I am also connected to an external high quality display most of the time. I am trying to sell it for myself but to be honest with you, I would not be proud to show the machine to someone or even to my eyes -
FHD or bust IMHO
-
also, when i go to Order Status, if i click +Detail, its empty. anyone else?

Does someone know the answer for this question: Why the trackpad in the ThnikPads does not function as well as or close to the one on the MBP even with third-party software. I recently tried the new HP dv6 for a couple of weeks and the trackpad works as charm as the one in the MBP with most of the gestures without the need for any additional software. Is it a problem with the hardware or software or both in the ThinkPads?
Edit: Maybe this is already fixed in the new generation but I do not know yet as I have not received my machine yet! -
-
Thought I would get an answer about the trackpad from experts in this forum like you if you have one -
Does it really matter in the speed if I just upgrade the stock 4GB RAM with any 4GB stick of the same speed vs. removing the stock and purchasing two 4GB kit and putting them into the machine?
-
-
Most ram distributors/sellers get their memory from the same few sources such as micron, Samsung, hynix, etc. so it's not a big deal to match memory from corsair, patriot, etc.

Great to know that it does not matter as I have seen some people claim they did benchmarks with matched kit and unmatched and the matched showed higher speed but I guess that benchmarks are different from reality and even if so, it would be trivial.
-
so just try and see i guess
my in-process w530 has 4gb and i have 3x4gb coming in the mail so i'm gonna try them and see what happens -

Would be interested to see if someone could do the same for a IVB system to see if the RAM bottlenecks the faster HD4000 iGPU or if it too doesn't see much gain when running in dual-channel. -

Guys, if I bought the X230t and wanted to upgrade with an SSD of my choice, how involved/complicated
would it be to upgrade it myself and NOT buy their SSD options?
Ie, I could probably get a bigger and faster SSD for the same money.
Can one simply clone to drives or is the fact that the other one is a different
type going to make that impossible?
If I were to let someone else do it for me, could I get the discs with all the
current drivers from Lenovo including the OS or what?
Would this affect the warranty?
Thanks

Hi all i just bought a x230. Currently I am thinking of gg for a msata + hdd combo, but before i make the purchase i was wondering anyone has done it arleady and can feedback whether the msata is providing sata III or sata II speeds?
-
I believe the X230 is a SATA III, but there's little practical benefit to SATA III for most uses. The real benefit of a SSD is the near instantaneous seek times. Those won't change going from SATA II to III. I have the mSATA + HDD combo in my X220i. It's quite slick. -
I am still waiting for my T430 to ship
(ordered 6/5) and so all what I can do for now is asking questions!!
Is the problem with the mediocre display is just the viewing angles? Is there a problem with the brightness level too? I have also seen displays before that show a very faint bluish discoloration. Is that a problem with the T430(s) panel? -
But the display is at 135dpi so you should set windows dpi accordingly.
And I do not have any problem with the color because I use a spyder4 to calibrate. Useful to do if you are editing photos. -

looks like my w530 was shipped yesterday, altho no tracking number yet
sorry pchome -
N.B. The only funny thing in this situation is that you ordered 6/16 and I ordered 6/5 and we both had 6 days maximum estimated ship time frame but we ended up having both machines shipped at the same time! -
any ideas where to buy a customised X1? Lenovo.com seems does not have it anymore ... Thanks
