Hey stick, there are 2 options for the IPS upgrade for $50, which is the right one, the 2x2 or 3x3?
-
Strange. I just did mine again to check and it lists as Premium 64 English. But to be safe, I would recommend people actually look over the 4th tab of the configuration wizard (which is labeled as "Review") to make sure you're not getting an OS that you can't understand
-
-
The 2x2 and 3x3 are basically the antenna configurations inside the display panel. The 3x3 doesn't have enough space for the webcam, so if you want a webcam you HAVE to use the 2x2 screen. To get the most out of a 3x3 display, you must also select (or upgrade to later) a wireless card that supports 3x3 MIMO. (The 6205 supports 2x2, the 6300 supports 3x3). -

Its on the list because you configure the screen BEFORE you configure the webcam. If you pick a 3x3 screen, you won't be able to select a webcam as an option. The only way to be able to select a webcam is to pick the 2x2 option. -

1) Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d)
2) Intel Trusted Execution Technology
3) AES New Instructions
However they both have:
Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x).
Besides the good keyboard and new IPS screen, I am also leaning towards this machine specifically because it has the i5-2520m; I experiment with various virtualization setups under Linux. I am waiting for some reviews on the x220, because there seems to be an inordinate amount of complaints on the various forums about the older X201 model. I also want to see how it behaves with various flavors of Linux. Besides that, hopefully the prices will stabilize and coupons will be available as well. -
The Canadian sites currently have the IPS as a $150 premium.
Also, their discount site has 0% savings at the moment, but the code will update tomorrow, so we'll have to wait and see if it gets better. Do you think the price will go down?
Or conversely, is the IPS add-on going to go up in the US?
Currently I'm working in texas for another month, so I could try purchasing in the US if the Canadian savings aren't as good.
Is this a bad idea? Are there any considerations for warranty?
I probably won't since a week's worth of delays will result in a huge headache. -
The 10% FATWALLET10 coupon only appears to work with Lenovo's regular (non-discount) site.
The 5% USXAPRILSAVINGS2011 coupon appears to work only with the academic or military discount sites.
Regardless, the largest discount I obtained was using Lenovo's academic or military sites with the 5% USXAPRILSAVINGS2011 eCoupon: A default configured X220T for $1068. -
Well I've had it work on the SPP site, along with the Visa card holder site, etc. It doesn't seem that you're limited to military and academic. It just seems that if you're not going in through their standard web portal you have access to the 5% + whatever discount you get from that affiliation instead of their standard 10%. -
Why is the 9 cell only a 10 dollar upgrade? Doesn't it add a lot of time to the battery?
-
It's kinda bulky, sticks out the back.
-
I dunno, but it's also heavier and sticks out the back of the laptop.
-
thanks. -
I spoke to a rep and they told me I better cancel this and wait until tomorrow. If they don't have it fixed tomorrow then I will go from there. Just hope that you can still reduce the price when downgrading to Home Premium after they *fix* this.
Kind of a bummer.

paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
you can get Windows 7 x64 ISO from http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html
but from reviews, it looks like Lenovo doesn't crap up the base OS, not even with basic fingerprint utilities(if you get the fingerprint reader... they give you one program to DOWNLOAD those utilities instead of pre-loading everything)... doesn't make sense to reformat and start really anew with a new install
so i dunno, i would just wait til tmr to see if the CTO is the same price, then cancel... -
-
If you compare the visacard site price versus plain lenovo.com you'll notice that the prices are about 5% cheaper, similar to acedemic/military discounts (looks like the x220 is the same)
-
Oh well, I will wait and see what happens tomorrow. I may get a better deal by waiting, it happens all the time. -
Sorry- I did the 2-3 shipping
-
had to cancel , lenovo is making me redo. -
I talked to a rep about the US vs Canada screen price (I'm in Canada) and he took about $100 of the price of the 3yr warranty and accessories in order to even out the price.
Order placed! Getting 8 gigs of RAM and a SSD from Newegg.ca -
I'm really hoping that I get it for a decent price, at least get a discounted price that is similar to the US price. -
thats because there really isnt that much difference in performance between the i7 and i5 processors. also if you go for the low voltage i7, the i5 will outperform it in terms of raw figures
-
Any downsides to the IPS display? I hear they consume more power.
-
I've read this entire thread and several reviews, but I still have a couple of questions re: available options on the tablet model.
- I know there are two screen options, multi-touch and outdoor (with the Gorilla glass). Do both of these screen choices support the digitizer pen, or only the outdoor screen? Do both of these screen choices support basic touch (as opposed to multi) or just the multi-touch screen?
- For screens that support the pen, does it come standard with the system or does it need to be purchased separately? The reviews and demos show the pen slotting into the base, but I see it as an upgrade option under "Pointing Device". Is that just for an extra one?
- I've seen several people mention that they plan on buying the system with 4GB of RAM and then adding another 4GB themselves from NewEgg for decent savings. Does anyone have a link to specific memory that's compatible?
- Is there any real difference between the 128GB and 160GB SSD options other than the capacity? I'm wondering why the 160 is referred to as "Intel 160GB ..." and the other as just "128GB ...".
I also just chatted with one of the reps about some of the options that seem to be missing from the configurator, so sharing that info as well. Take it with a grain of salt since the rep was completely unaware of at least one significant configuration option.
- i5/i7 option missing (only i3) - coming by Friday (as others have already reported)
- Win 7 Home Edition missing (only Pro) - rep thinks this is the only OS option, but doesn't really know why or much about it (I find it odd that the OS options between the regular X220 and tablet would be different - anyone know why that might be?)
- 9-cell battery option missing (only 6-cell) - coming by Friday
- "Outdoor" screen option missing (only multi-touch) - rep was unaware of this option (really??)
The i5 (if not i7) and 9-cell are must-haves for me so I guess I'm waiting until Friday. @$%! - I know there are two screen options, multi-touch and outdoor (with the Gorilla glass). Do both of these screen choices support the digitizer pen, or only the outdoor screen? Do both of these screen choices support basic touch (as opposed to multi) or just the multi-touch screen?

Multitouch includes digitizer and digitizer is included.

Anyone else confused by the shipping estimates at Lenovo. When I ordered the machine it gave me an 8 day estimate. Once I placed the order it told me the estimated ship date was 5/13. That's much longer than 8 days from now.
I'm excited about the new machine but quite disappointed by having to wait for 5/13 to get the machine. -
FYI: The lenovo site is now working if you downgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Home Premium. The english version correctly appears with this downgrade.
I've submitted my order:
i5-2520M
Windows 7 Home Premium
320 GB 7200 RPM
2 GB (I didn't want to pay $75 for the 4GB upgrade when Crucial sells a 2GB chip for $24)
Fingerprint reader, HD webcam, Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wifi, and 9 cell battery (only $10 extra!) -
"**Ship date: An estimated ship date will be posted on our order status site after your order is placed. The date reflected above does not determine when your order will ship since inventory status may change before your order is final and because items may be held until all products on the order are ready to ship. To obtain the latest information about the availability of a specific part number, please call the phone number listed in the masthead at the top of this page. A flat charge for shipping & handling may apply for certain orders, as indicated on the Checkout page. "
In other words, it may ship sooner. -
I know this is a complaint that's been voiced before. Just needed to vent -
I had paid extra for shipping just to be bumped back to the 13th as well.
Lenovo cancelled shipping charge. I hope we get it sooner then the 13th. -
Damn am I too late on the group buy? I am a student, so would the student discount match the one for the group buy?
-
Sometime in the last 6 hours the layout of Lenovo's configuration utility for the x220t changed.
Though the specs appear the same, the model is now being called the x220i Tablet and the starting price appears to have increased to $1399.99.
Broken checkouts, price and model naming changes during initial release and a uninformed sales team.
Does anyone else feel as if Lenovo is running this product release like an all-volunteer concessionary?
Maybe it's just me.. -
Can I replace the hdd myself with a western digital 640gb scorpio blue? Or is the size different? Strange that the largest capacity offered is only 320gb?
-
^^^ Because Lenovo chose to use drives of 7mm height.
-
-
Is there larger capacity 7mm drives available? Don't mind putting it in myself if the warranty don't get voided. -

'SIM card: USA'... does this mean I won't be able to stick an Australian SIM card into the WWAN card when I eventually get it here ordering from the U.S. site??
