Is anyone getting warranties on this? I was thinking the 3-yr (i'm going to be a freshman in college), but the basic three year doesn't cover drops or spills, but I thought Thinkpads were pretty good against that.
-
-
brand preference?
Newegg.com - Laptop Memory, DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600),8 gb ddr3 -
i was going to do the 3 yr for 90 bucks more, but yea, it only covers manufacturing flaws, and i dont see most thinkpads having many manufacturing flaws. and if it does, it will come out pretty quickly.
so yea, i didnt do any warranty upgrades. im also going to be transferring to a university this fall, so i am expecting the laptop to go through more too.... -
so i checked the coupon, and compared it to what i configured last week with mastercard marketplace, and it came out 50 bucks cheaper for my config for this deal. so if anyone was having any doubts about how good a deal this is, this is definitely the best deal i have seen...
but thankfully it didnt work on the x220t, so i didnt have to cancel my order for that, last week.
-
Thanks. How does this look for $859 + tax?

Get at least the fingerprint reader. It's very convenient for logging on to windows, and you can use it in place of a boot password (to prevent use in case your laptop is stolen).
Also, I'd add Bluetooth too since it's not too expensive and you may have a use for it later on. But, if you have to choose Bluetooth or fingerprint, get the fingerprint reader. -
hard disk will need to be encrypted to prevent unauthorized access. finger print reader doesn't add any security to the data itself.
-
I know, though thanks for pointing it out. As a casual deterrent, a HDD password will work fine, but if someone knows what they're doing, then they can get in and get your data. I was mostly talking about how no one could actually boot the computer if you have a power-on password, and not the data.
-
Hey guys.
I can't seem to find any more info on lenovo's included SSD options.
Yes, I know they're overpriced, but I'm on the 30% off doorbuster deal, and I can get a 48% return, as a laptop can be claimed tax free.
For me, even basic drives are worth it at that price, any info would be appreciated.
Thanks. -
Unfortunately the doorbuster deal is gone on the X220. However, if you were to utilize the student discount + a decent coupon code, you should be able to find a very similar price perhaps plus no more than 50-100 dollars. (for the i7)
For those of you that missed out. Don't feel too bad. Unless you really need a USB 3.0, the i7 does not offer a performance difference compared to the i5. (well it does, but negligible, especially with a integrated GPU). It is still more cost effective to upgrade to a SSD and get the i5 at a cheaper price. -
i feel so frustrated. i just ordered the X220 using the ultraportable coupon code yesterday. seeing this deal, i called in to cancel my order. and just as i'm about to order again using the doorbuster deal, the limit is reached.
it's just so saddening. -
Damn
. I hope we'll get a similar deal soon. Anyone tried calling them to see if anything can be done?
-
I don't suppose it matters that I still have an active cart with the coupon enabled. I started with the deal active, missed it in this amount of time. Damn -.-
Anyway, I see that the C300 is very common, but I am in australia, and SSDs in general are a bit more expensive. If I'm getting it tax excempt anway, it'd be nice to consider the lenovo ones. It seems to be a X-25M, is it known whether it's a G1 or G2?
Thanks. -
can't call them as i'm still in an overseas attachment. but since it will take 2 days to cancel my first order (the one with $100 off), i'm going to see if i can cancel the cancellation of the order. the 12 hours time difference is really a hassle, and i can only chat with them online not through phone.

Lenovo UK - Ordered 18th of April - Order got canceled o because of Memory Part not being available- Reordred on the 28th nothing delivered yet. It has been more than 3 weeks and they still delaying the delivery date by at least one week because of "JAPAN Disastery delaying parts delivery"..It looks like they have been given the word, they all repeat the JAPAN word as soon as you ask about the delay. Anyone who has alternatives in UK for buying AVOID Lenovo onsite site called Digital Rivers
-
do you know how long the delivery will REALLY take to ship to Florida?I got my doorbuster order today. I don't really trust the estimated day
-
Are you guys sure the deal is dead? Go to this thread and follow the new link and I think the deal still works. If trying out the new link to get the deal and it doesnt work, then I guess the deal is really dead. But I still see that people are still able to order. Read the update note in the first post of that thread.
-
I was not a fan of the fingerprint reader until I got one and now it is a must have.
Perry -
My experience hasn't been as positive. With the finger reader on my X220, I often need to rub my finger over the reader a few times to get it to work. With the Dell Vosto, it seemed to work first time far more often.
-
Hi all, first time poster, long time lurker.
I was debating getting the X220 and finally hopped on it when I saw the slickdeals B&N+doorbuster deal (Yesterday around 5pm EST). Got mine to ~890.00 CTO for a total ~956.00 shipped after tax. Est. ship date is 6/08/2011, but I hope for a sooner actual.
I wonder if anyone has benchmarks comparing the X220 to the MBP 13" (2010 or 2011) or Macbook Air. Most sites I have read (CNET among others) compare the X220 to a MBP 15" with the i7 quad (which, I think, is a ridiculous comparison).
Anyway, I also own a Toshiba Satellite M645-S4050, that I use pretty much as my desktop replacement.
I really decided on the X220 and Thinkpads in general because of having to work on a manager's older IBM T41 and T42 (I just admired the industrial looking design among other things). -
Hmm, shipped 5/13, and the UPS site still says it will arrive by 5/19 end-of-day. However it's been sitting at 'export scan' in china since 5/14... is this normal?
Shanghai, China 05/14/2011 12:01 A.M. Export Scan
05/14/2011 12:01 A.M. Origin Scan
China 05/13/2011 1:18 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS -
Unfortunately it's not all that uncommon. It will probably then sit in Louisville, KY for several days waiting to clear customs unless Lenovo has made changes in the way they provide invoices to US Customs.
-
They have disabled the code all together now so the new link trick no longer works.
-
So I guess the delivery estimate of 5/19 is a bit optimistic then
oh well at least it's shipped at all.
EDIT:
Spoke too soon! Status is Released by Clearing Agency.. maybe Lenovo is getting better about forwarding on the clearance paperwork
Louisville, KY, United States 05/17/2011 12:18 P.M. This shipment is warehoused until it is released by Clearing Agency. / Released by Clearing Agency. Now in-transit for delivery. -
That's odd, mine has been updated frequently but still hasn't been cleared for delivery like yours.
Louisville, KY, United States 05/17/2011 1:48 A.M. Arrival Scan
Anchorage, AK, United States 05/16/2011 3:19 P.M. Departure Scan
05/16/2011 1:14 P.M. Arrival Scan
Shanghai, China 05/16/2011 9:01 P.M. Departure Scan
Shanghai, China 05/15/2011 12:17 A.M. Export Scan
05/15/2011 12:07 A.M. Origin Scan
China 05/14/2011 10:00 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS
Maybe its because yours started the process at 5/13 instead of 5/14.. but we have the same expected delivery date? -
I can confirm this. I also had the cart saved, but didn't work out.
-
If you generated a quote you can still call a sales person and they will honor the price. The quote will be canceled in the system, but you can email him a copy of the quote and they will generate a order with manager approval. I did it this way and managed to have them swap out the 9 cell for the 6 cell, making it the perfect laptop for me
.
-
Yeah, my tracking seems a bit lacking in updates, it didn't mention going through Alaska. It's possible things bunch-up on weekends unless it's overnight or guaranteed delivery.
-
I just got off the phone with Lenovo sales and have been told that my estimated ship date is the week of May 19th, rather than the week of June 6th; three weeks early! Wahoo! -
ordered around May 2nd; waited for shipment today. Guess what? suddenly I get a BlackBerry message that says package was delivered...
AND I HAVEN"T SEEN ANYTHING!!! *&@!*(&^!)*(@&(*&@! UPS!
Called UPS twice, went to neighbour with the identical unit number; and he said he returned it back to the driver...
... GIMME MY MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!! LOL -
I'll try online today if that works. Thanks!
Edit: Nope, they don't honor the quote in the shopping cart. (contacted them via online chat) -
Has anyone had their X220 doorbuster deal orders cancelled?
I paid with Amazon and received an order from Lenovo just then saying that mine had been cancelled due to my "credit card information". Then Amazon emailed to say "the item(s) you requested is/are not currently available". -
my first order was 'cancelled' and they shipped my laptop to some amazon warehouse.. lenovo told me its some payment issue between lenovo and amazon which is bull since amazon deducted from my CC.
and i ordered again using another promo..hopefully it goes through this time -
Yes, Amazon deducted my CC too. I placed another order last week and that went through just fine. The only difference is that I had to use a different account because Lenovo's website is poorly setup and you can't login to the B&N site with a Corporate Perks or Lenovo.com ID.
This whole "Coupon Dance" really is ridiculous. -
A bot difficult, yes, but doable. Again I went to the website, configured and saved the cart and called sales. They can see the saved cart and enter the order themselves at the cart price and take your cc by phone. They then can help you track it.
saves the whole CC/Amazon/Paypal dance. BTW they can not take over anything paid through a 3rd party pay system.....PayPal/Amazon/Google.
Perry -
my second order just shipped! woot! hopefully they dont screw it up again..
-
Just got off the phone to both Lenovo and Amazon. Lenovo says it was a problem with Amazon. Amazon says my payment was fine, but that the seller cancelled the order.
Now I've emailed Lenovo through the Amazon site to see what they say...
From all accounts nobody will be able to match the Doorbuster price because the order is 'cancelled'. Any other good promos on at the moment? -
I managed to get in with the x220 Doorbuster deal, but I'm considering whether or not to cancel/refuse shipment and get the new X1 instead. I'm looking for an ultraportable for writing, email and simple web development.

Should I try to cancel and wait for the X1? Is it worth it? Or should I stick with the great x220 deal that I ordered? Any advice would be appreciated. -
Hang onto the X220 and sell it to me
-
The X1 starts at $1399 and you don't get an IPS screen, SSD, core i7, etc. at that price. I doubt you will see 30% off on the X1 for a long time, if ever. I say stick with your x220 order and if you really want an X1 you could always sell it, perhaps even at a small profit.
-
Honestly, the X1 seems a little meh. At that price, I personally feel that its not worth it.
IMO what you're paying for in the X1 is for style. Granted, the look is very attractive, but if you're looking for substance, I think that there are laptops that suit your needs better.
Personally, I have never had trouble with breaking laptop screens. So the gorilla glass option (no touchscreen either!) is overkill in my opinion. The glossy screen is supposed to be extremely glossy.
Weight is similar to a T420 (or T420s) i forgot which one, but the screen is smaller.
So all in all: Pros of the X1 = gorilla glass (meh), chicklet keyboard+backlight (maybe... I know that a lot of people who buy thinkpads do so because they like the non-chiclet style), 3.0 w/o the i7 (but 3.0 is still way ahead of now in my opinion), and a better look. -
hello? battery life on x220 kills the x1 plus the IPS screen.. and cheaper so no brainer to me.
-
If you have the order number, they can price match it. I had my order cancelled due to my credit card's fraud protection. I had to call in and have them match my old order number. Good luck!
-
My order was placed on 05/16 with the Doorbuster deal, and est. ship date was 06/08.
I just checked the order status on IBM.COM, and it was said that my machine was shipped!!! Also, it provided me with the track number, even though it said that "Order Processed: Ready for UPS" on UPS.COM.
I am so excited!!!
How fast it is!!! -
Hey guys I tried to order today from a quote I had from May 4th with 15% off plus student discount, and it wants me to fill in something for "Optional company purchase order number"...what the hell is up with this? I was so eager to place the order and they give me this crap
Is it that I have to go through a rep to get it to work? If so that's completely ridiculous, why would they set up the page so you can pay right there like that? -
Thanks for the tip, how did you get them to match it?
I already tried talking to a Lenovo rep but he quoted me $1300+ for the same configuration (showed him my order number too).
Now my other X220 is showing the message "The receiver requested the package be delivered to an alternate address". Anyone seen this before? -
that doesnt look good ... i had something similar for my previous order.."recevier requested change of address". next thing i know its shipped and accepted at north carolina instead of oregon. levono rep said something about payment problem between amazon and them. amazon said lenovo cancelled the order. im getting bull from left and right
-
I don't suppose you're using a certain Oregon-based mail forwarding service?
-
they would cancel the order based on that?
-
I think they would, especially if you used a foreign CC to pay via Amazon. Lenovo's mailing address is in NC so if it winds up there I'd say it has been cancelled and they are trying to hide the reason.
